2. Pareto chart
It shows the relative importance of set of
measures
Helps to select the most important areas on
which to focus
It helps us to differentiate between vital few and
trivial many
It is also called as 80-20 rule, which states that
20% of potential problem areas are caused by
80% of all the problems
3. Bunking of lectures
Following are some reasons to bunk the lectures
1. Quality and clarity of lectures
2. Deadline for other activities
3. Lecturers ability to engage/entertain
4. Availability of lecture material from printed
sources
5. Hour at which class is scheduled
6. Need to attend Extracurricular or personal
activities
7. Lack of sleep
8. Locations around college and peer reasons
(theatres, picnic spots, restaurants etc.)
4. Data
Survey was conducted on 150 students to rate
the reasons mentioned in slide
Location of college : Churchgate
Places around : Marine Drive, theatres, Gateway
of India, Colaba, Restaurants and clubs
Schedule : 12 Hrs a day, 6 days a week
All other parameters are subjective to students
6. Data
Following is the data table:
Reasons Count Percentage
Quality and clarity of lectures 72 48
Deadline for other activities 9 6
Lecturers ability to engage/entertain 5 3.33
Availability of lecture material from printed sources 4 2.67
Hour at which class is scheduled/timetable 12 8
Need to attend Extracurricular or personal activities 4 2.67
Lack of sleep 8 5.33
Locations around college and peer reasons 36 24
7. Sorting of data
Reasons Percentage
Quality and clarity of lectures 48
Locations around college and peer reasons 24
Hour at which class is scheduled/timetable 8
Deadline for other activities 6
Lack of sleep 5.33
Lecturers ability to engage/entertain 3.33
Need to attend Extracurricular or personal activities 2.67
Availability of lecture material from printed sources 2.67
• We need to sort data in descending order

Quality and clarity of lectures 48 48

Lecturers ability to engage/entertain 3.33 94.66
Need to attend Extracurricular or personal activities 2.67 97.33
Availability of lecture material from printed sources 2.67 100
Plot the bar graph accordingly.
We also need cumulative frequency to plot the line graph
10. Conclusion
As you can see 72% of the problems are caused
by the 2 factors which make 25% of the reasons
Here 80/20 principle is being followed but due to
small amount of data set has little variation
If the quality of lectures are improved the problem
can be tackled to a large extent as perception
must be created among student that their time is
more useful in lecture than to visit outdoor places
which they can visit later
