1. EFFECT OF DEFOLIATED SCION ON THE GROWTH OF GRAFTED MANGO
SEEDLINGS GROWN AT INDOOR CONDITIONS
The main objective of the study is to determine the effect of defoliated scion on the growth
of grafted mango seedlings grown at indoor conditions. Specifically, it aims to:
1. Evaluate the growth of one month old defoliated seedlings in terms of plant height, stem
diameter and number of leaves in comparison to non-defoliated seedlings; and to
2. Assess the effect of indoor growing conditions to the growth of grafted mango seedlings
in comparison to seedlings at normal outside conditions.
Conceptual Framework: Experimental Research Utilizing IPO format (Input, Process,
Output) Defoliated Scion and Indoor Conditions as dependent variables applied on
Grafted Mango seedlings (independent variable). Climate shocks (strong typhoons and
harsh outside environmental conditions) have always affected food production. Food
grown indoors can be protected from climate shocks. Defoliated scion has a positive effect
on plant propagation and indoor growing of food is a small step towards climate resiliency
of food production in urban areas.
2. EFFECT OF GROWING MEDIA ON HYDROPONICS GROWN LETTUCE FOR FOOD
SECURITY
The main objective of the study is to determine the effect of growing media on
hydroponically grown lettuce. Specifically it aims to:
1. Determine the growth and yield performance of lettuce grown in simple hydroponics;
2. Evaluate the growth of lettuce in hydroponics as affected by different growing media:
rockwool, cocopeat and perlite+cocopeat.
3. Determine the effect of growing media on lettuce growth in terms of yield (grams), head
diameter, number of leaves, and visual quality after harvest; and
4. Assess hydroponics production as a potential key in improved household food
production.
Conceptual Framework: Experimental Research Utilizing IPO format (Input, Process,
Output). Growing media as a dependent variable applied on lettuce grown in a simple
indoor hydroponics system. Utilizing indoor hydroponics systems as scaling up food
production efficiency of households for food security.
3. EFFECTS OF CONTAINER SIZE ON THE GROWTH AND YIELD OF BACKYARD
GROWN TOMATO USING ORGANIC SOIL AS SOIL MEDIA
The general objective of this study is to assess the effects of container size on the growth
and yield of tomato. Specifically, it aims to:
1. Determine the growth and yield performance of tomato using different container size;
and
2. Recommend the appropriate and justifiable container size that could attain the highest
yield on tomato.
Conceptual Framework: Experimental Research Utilizing IPO (Input, Process, Output).
Container size as a dependent variable applied on backyard grown tomatoes in organic
soil. Backyard food production in relation to improving urban food needs for food security.
4. EFFECTS OF REMOVING CAVENDISH BANANA BLOSSOM ON THE FRUIT OF
BANANA TREE
The main objective of the study is to determine the effect of removal of banana blossom
on the growth and yield of banana fruit tree. Specifically, it aims to:
1. Determine the growth of banana fruit with and without banana blossom.
2. Assess the relationship of removing banana blossom and growth of the banana fruit.
Conceptual Framework: Experimental Research Utilizing Correlation IV (Independent
Variable) and DV (Dependent Variable). Removal of Banana blossom as independent
variable applied on fruit of banana tree as dependent variable.
