    •    I believe students are different, with different interests and abilities as well as
         different ways of learning.

               -Having a combination of teaching methods will equip me to reach out to
               all students and allow me to be a culturally responsive teacher.

•       Collaboration and communication is key.

             -Partnership of teacher, students, and parents/family through science
             homework, events, activities, meetings and/or phone calls.

•   I believe interesting students in the subject will result in better learning. Create
    opportunities for students to ask questions, experimentation, group
    activities, and allow them to express interests in science topics.


•   Teaching creatively the importance of science discovery and its relation to
    everyday life. Science lends itself to hands-on
    activities, experimentation, model-making, videos, science fair
    projects, fun, fun, fun!

  homework assignments,
   family science nights,
    science fair projects,
   back to school nights,
 Parent-teacher conferences
    Fieldtrip chaperones

                     Creative lesson plans
                  that spark student interests
              Experiments
     Fieldtrips: virtual fieldtrips,
              live fieldtrips
    Family take-home assignments
   Creative homework assignments:
           i.e. model-making
 Science events such as fairs, museums
  Videos and illustrations of concepts
   Group & collaborative learning:
           i.e. work stations

           Create a positive learning environment


          Encourage questions, explore ideas
              Collaboration opportunities
  Allow dialogue over topics, especially those of interest
           Promote respect, maintain safety
     Proper discipline using positive reinforcement
 Motivate students in science and relate it to everyday life
Science lends itself to hands-on activities. As a future teacher I plan to
engage students with experiments and activities.

Mrs. Kitchens' TEACHING PHILOSOPHY • I believe students are different, with different interests and abilities as well as different ways of learning. -Having a combination of teaching methods will equip me to reach out to all students and allow me to be a culturally responsive teacher. • Collaboration and communication is key. -Partnership of teacher, students, and parents/family through science homework, events, activities, meetings and/or phone calls.

Create opportunities for students to ask questions, experimentation, group activities, and allow them to express interests in science topics. • Teaching creatively the importance of science discovery and its relation to everyday life. Science lends itself to hands-on activities, experimentation, model-making, videos, science fair projects, fun, fun, fun!
