  1. Brain cells link to a complex message system. As things are seen, heard, felt or tasted, messages are sent from one brain cell to another. These messages activate the cells, enabling them to make connections with the cells around them, causing the brain to grow. The brain needs to be stimulated from birth with colours, shapes, forms, sounds and movements for the connections to be made
  2. Connections in the brain become stronger when they are used often, and connections that are not used die away in childhood and early adolescence as seen on the picture on the left.  It is true for adults and true for babies — “use it or lose it!” — babies and young children need stimulation  to develop socially, emotionally, and intellectually
