1. Ebola is not airborne.
2. Ebola is contracted through contact with bodily
fluids or blood of a symptomatic and infected
person.
3. Early symptoms of Ebola are similar to common
illnesses and include fever, headache, body
aches, cough, stomach pain, vomiting and
diarrhea.
4. Chlorine disinfectant, heat, direct sunlight,
soaps and detergents kill the Ebola virus.
5. According to the CDC, Ebola is considered
“moderately” contagious and only if you are or
have been in an affected area in Africa in the
last 3-4 weeks or have come in contact with
someone who has.
6. Medications to treat the virus are experimental.
Right now, the best measure against contracting
the Ebola virus is to practice good precautionary
measures including: hand hygiene, disinfecting
surfaces, and cough and sneeze etiquette.
Transmission
Transmission requires direct contact through broken skin
or mucous membranes with infected body fluids, needles
or animals. Importantly, Ebola is not spread via air, water
or food. After exposure to the virus, symptoms may appear
anytime from 2-21 days with the average being 8-10 days.
