This document discusses using machine vision techniques to analyze microstructural changes in damaged parts of spherical joints. Laboratory analysis of universal joint parts found martensite and residual austenite in neck samples, and martensite, residual austenite, and cementite in sleeve samples, indicating improper heat treatment. The document proposes a machine vision system to improve microstructure analysis, consisting of a microscope, camera, computer, and software for image capture, processing, and feature extraction to input data into an intelligent system. Machine vision could help identify microstructural features like austenite, martensite, and ferrite to monitor changes.
