The front cover of the CD challenges conventions of typical hip hop music videos and media portrayals of youth. It features young people having fun through dancing, free running, singing, and athletics rather than expensive displays of wealth. Bright colors are used throughout the CD and ancillary materials to portray youth in a positive light and show they don't need expensive items to have fun or be successful. Subtle links like headphones and limited use of the artist's image provide continuity across materials while empowering youth as a collective.

This document analyzes the creative process behind a film poster the author created featuring an eye. To make the eye unsettling, the author took a close-up photo of their eye, edited it to look fearful by adding colored layers and texture, and composited in a black-and-white photo of a villain. At the top are the film's title and credits, separated with circles. The tagline and release date are below to entice audiences. Inspired by other eye horror posters like The Eye and Candyman, the author aimed to make their poster's eye look equally lit yet sinister through coloration and texture.
The document describes the process of editing an image for use on a digipak cover for a progressive house/dance music album. The editor deleted the background, duplicated and recolored the image layers, and added effects like lines to mimic a computer screen and blending colors to make the image more abstract. Inspired by other album covers, the editor experimented with overlaying nature images and adjusting colors to tie the image to the music genre's conventions. The final cover image was constructed in InDesign along with the reverse side, spine, and interior pages to complete the digipak design. An advertisement poster was also created using the main cover image to promote the album.

It summarizes the strengths and weaknesses of various design elements and whether they will be kept or changed for the final design. For the front cover, the creator is happy with the background and image but will remove the artist's name for branding purposes. The back cover and inside cover backgrounds that incorporate space imagery will also be kept. Some text on the inside cover and changes to the CD design itself will be made for aesthetic reasons. Next steps outlined are removing the artist's name on the front cover, adding copyright information to the back, and modifying the CD design to look more like an actual CD.
Evidence for the creation of my digipakFreya Wadeley
The document provides step-by-step instructions for creating a digipak using Adobe Photoshop. It describes 15 steps for editing images, adding text, and designing elements like the spine, tracklisting, and disc. Key steps include editing images onto panels while maintaining brand identity elements like colors from the music video, precisely placing text and adjusting fonts/sizes, and designing cohesive imagery that flows across the product. The level of detail ensures the digipak conveys the artist's vision and themes while following conventions to appeal to audiences.
The combination of the main product (music video) and ancillary texts (advert and digipak) have some coherence but also inconsistencies. Key points of coherence include using the same quirky font, costumes, poses, and props (guitars) across products. However, the lighting and colors used are very different between the bright, polished print materials and darker, dingier video. While some elements like costumes and poses translate between stills and motion, the intended enthusiasm is lost due to lighting issues in the video. Overall, the products share some recognizable house style elements but would benefit from addressing lighting inconsistencies to fully cohere the brand identity.
The document describes the process of creating a movie poster in Adobe Photoshop. First, the background was made black and an image of a golden apple was found online and edited using tools like Bevel and Magic Wand. The apple image was placed in the center of the poster. Next, the title "Bodoni" was added below the apple in the same font with a gradient overlay. A tagline was also included at the top in the same style. Additional text like "Most anticipated" was spread out across the poster for consistency. Lastly, credits for the creators and actors were added in white text at the bottom.
The document summarizes the process of creating a digipak for a CD. It describes:
1) Taking a photo and converting it to black and white to use on the CD cover. Layering paint brushes on the image to make it look like dripping paint.
2) Designing the back cover with a list of song titles following the rule of thirds.
3) Assembling the finished CD cover, back cover, and inside artwork into the digipak with complementary colors and designs.
The document summarizes the process of designing a CD cover for the song "My Immortal" by Evanescence. Key elements included adding a template, erasing parts to add a dying rose image from the music video, adding film strips with scenes from the video, and writing the song/artist names around the strips. Reviews and the song list were also included following the house colors/styles to complete the cover.
This document summarizes the steps taken to design a Digipak for a pop artist's album. It discusses using consistent images, colors, fonts and other elements to create a coherent brand identity across different elements of the packaging. Specific elements are described, including designing inlays for the CDs using images from a music video, editing the back cover to include track listings and legal text, and creating a magazine ad that ties into the overall branding while using a different image. Consistency of visual elements across the Digipak and additional materials is emphasized.

The document discusses the creation of ancillary materials for a music project, including a CD digipack and magazine advertisement. Research was conducted on real products in the genre to inform the design choices. The final CD cover, back cover, and booklet were created with a consistent style and branding for the artist. Photographs of the artist were taken specifically for the project. The advertisement uses the same photo as the cover to create synergy across materials. In conclusion, the ancillary materials successfully captured conventions of the genre while linking back to the original music project.
The combination of the student's main music video product and ancillary texts like a CD digipack and poster are effective.
All the products aim to portray the same narrative and genre. Black and white is used consistently to represent the indie genre. Imagery and camera shots are also reused across products.
The digipack hints at the music video's narrative by showing bruises. The poster continues the black and white theme but adds blurred color to the background, hinting that not all is as it seems and referencing the abusive relationship theme.
Technical elements like shots are also mirrored between the products, with close-ups used prominently. There is a clear synergy and relationship between the products that
The document describes the design process and revisions for a digipak and album poster. It discusses 4 drafts of the digipak that incorporated feedback to blur the background, add effects for branding, and make other changes. It also discusses 4 drafts of the album poster where the designer blurred the background, added effects and color as suggested by the target audience. The final versions incorporated additional tweaks like social media icons and text changes for clarity.
The document provides a breakdown and production plan for a music video. It includes narrative sections, lyrics to the song, location ideas, equipment needed, and a shooting and production schedule. The video will attempt to express the idea that "everyone has music in them" by showing different groups experiencing their musical spirit in various locations and styles of dance.
The document provides a narrative breakdown of a music video. It outlines the production schedule, equipment list, shooting schedule, storyboard, and locations. Key details include organizing footage, syncing music to clips, editing the video in three parts over several days, adding effects, and filming scenes inside a bedroom, for the green screen, and in various locations to exemplify the song's message that "everyone has music in them."
The survey had 10 respondents aged 14-16 who occasionally watch music videos. Most watched 1-11 videos per week and preferred performance and narrative music videos from pop and R&B artists. Respondents normally watched music videos on television and computers and slightly preferred singular artists over groups/bands.
The music video is a performance-based piece featuring the Pussycat Dolls. It represents empowerment for young girls by suggesting they should strive to become stars like the Dolls. However, it also adheres to stereotypes by featuring the women in revealing clothing designed to attract male viewers. Nicole is positioned at the center of the group, making the other members seem like backup dancers. The cinematography uses various shots to showcase the provocative dance moves meant to immerse male audiences.

The document analyzes and compares the album covers of three albums:
1) Gorillaz's "Demon Days" album cover depicts the band members' faces in a sinister style that contradicts the calm music. This suggests the content is serious but calm.
2) Rihanna's "Good Girl Gone Bad" album cover emphasizes her womanly features and poses her in a sexually suggestive way to attract attention. This suggests ballad-style music about life and love.
3) Rage Against the Machine's self-titled debut album features a graphic image related to their political messages and criticisms of government and capitalism, indicating their genre of politically charged rap metal.
After choosing a layout, the author split an A3 page in half and added paint splatters across both sides. On the right side, the author added three filled rectangles in different colors and adjusted properties to make the edges shine. Additional elements like images, text copied from a Word document, page numbers, and a quote were included to complete the double page spread design.

This magazine targets 14-25 year olds and represents younger audiences through images of fairly young people. It appeals to lower social classes who typically listen to genres featured in the magazine like hip hop. Only one of three left page images truly represents hip hop while the magazine will attract more colorful audiences through its mixed style and colors along with its features.
The document analyzes how the Mixer magazine challenges conventions of typical music magazines. It uses a variety of images and colors with no clear structure or color scheme. It mixes genres of music across its features unlike Vibe magazine which focuses solely on rap/R&B to match the artist on its cover. While Vibe follows typical magazine conventions, Mixer stands out visually and in its diverse musical content to appeal to a younger audience.
The document provides instructions for creating a contents page for a magazine using a paint splatter background and images blended together. Key steps include adding a main paint splatter background, text reading "contents", an image of the main artist blended using screen mode, two additional paint splatter images with page numbers, and round edged boxes with differing colors to contain text indicating page numbers for magazine features.

1. 1.IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT USE,
DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE FORMS AND CONVENTIONS OF
REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS?
My media products challenge the typical conventions of demonized youth and the
General aspects of hip hop music videos. The music video puts an emphasis on
young people having fun rather than how the media portray them. In the music
video, there is a variety of young people dancing, free running, singing or doing
athletics which hints at their productivity rather than being seen as scum (such as
in the London Riots of 2011) Also in a typical hip hop music video, the audience
would expect to see expensive cars and strong sexual references from
females, however in this music video none of this is present to empower young
people and send out the message that you don’t need expensive high profile
items to have fun or be successful.
2. 2.HOW EFFECTIVE IS THE COMBINATION OF YOUR
MAIN PRODUCT AND ANCILLARY TEXTS?
The main product and ancillary texts have very subtle links. First the headphones
used in the ancillary texts. A pair of headphones are also used in the music video.
The overhead headphones are a recent trend amongst young people thus, the
audience can gain some sort of relation to the music video. Secondly the use of the
main artist is limited in the main product and on the poster he is wearing a mask.
This is to strengthen the idea of young people having fun as a collective rather than
a singular artist receiving all the publicity (which tends to happen in the news; a
young person being misrepresented and thus the whole of young people are
thrown into the same bracket) Lastly the use of colour. The music video is just as
colourful as the ancillary texts which gives off a positive “vibe” for the audience. The
bright colours in the main product and ancillary texts also grabs the audience’s
attention.
4. 4.HOW DID YOU USE MEDIA TECHNOLOGIES IN
THE CONSTRUCTION AND
RESEARCH, PLANNING AND EVALUATION
STAGES?
5. THE CD
For the CD I used four simple images taken with a CANON D700 (one of a hat ,headphones , Graffiti from a
wall in central London and a CD that I own) I imported them into Photoshop. After adding all images into
the disc image I set the layer property to “Screen” to give the illusion that the three images were actually
on the disc. Also a bit of colour correction such as the “Curves” adjustment and the “Hue and Saturation”
properties. It is important that the theme of the Cap and the headphones is kept to build a sense of
familiarity and consistency throughout all the ancillary tasks and the music video.
After the main images were dealt with, I added the artists’ name and the name of the album on the upper half
Of the CD using the “Text” tool, using this CD image
as a structure. I lowered the “opacity” of the text to
make it blend in
6. INLAY
The inlay needed to be simple while still representing youth in a positive manner. For this I used a colourful eye catching
background with virtually no negative signs to show a positive representation of “happy” youth and stray away from the constant
demonization of them in the media and even by other youth artists (Most young Hip Hop/ Rap artists adhere to the typical
stereotypes in their music, strengthening the representation of “vile” youth due to the lack of colour)
I added an image that would soon be on the magazine
poster for continuity. However, both shots would be
different. First I used a graffiti image for the
background and added the “Cutout” effect in the
“Filters” tab and increased all the sliders to their
maximum. Then in a separate file, I used the “text”
tool to create the word “Power” (to empower youth),
12cm put the cutout background on top and set the blending
mode to “Screen”. Finally I brought that element into
the main publication, duplicated it, changed the
“overlay” to white and place it just above the main
text. Then the main image. I enlarged the main image
to create a medium shot as this type of shot was more
12cm fit for purpose. I then added the “Cutout” and “Colour
Pencil” filters to it.
7. BACK
It was important to have either the cap or headphones in the image because one couldn’t be forgotten for the
element of consistency. The back need to be a complete colour contrast to the saturated front cover the
imply the idea that there are two sides to young people, The front being the typical “Grey” demonized version
of youth and the back which is colourful, fun and vivid. The font is also consistent throughout all the texts.
I added the song names and name of the artist using
the “text” tool and faded the artist’s name as it was
3cm too intruding on the overall product. For the
barcode, I downloaded an extra font called
“Barcode” from www.dafont.com which gives out
free copyright free fonts if they’re not used to make
profit. The image of the cap had the background cut
out using the “Pen” tool to eliminate the green
background but keep the surface. I then flipped the
image and lowered the “Opacity” to give the illusion
of the cap of a reflective surface. I then used some
11.8cm colour correction (boosted the saturation levels in the
“Hue And Saturation” tab in the colour correction
menu and darkened the image with the “curves”
adjustment to boost the contrast with the other
colours. Finally I added some brush images using the
15cm “Brush” tool of leafs, stars and grass to keep the
consistency (also the image of the record logo which
I took from my old Usb as it was an image I made in
GCSE ICT)
8. FRONT
The front cover was the basis for all the other ancillary texts. Everything in the others needed to include some
front the front cover to bring a sense of familiarity and genuine continuity that make people feel more enticed
to buy. The mostly saturated front cover is supposed to contrast with the back giving a “genuine”
representation of young people through a colourless front cover, however the hat and headphones are in
colour to exemplify a “signal of hope” and that stereotypes are one dimensional and every young person is
different.
The paint type effect is a variant of the “Brush” tool
I used set to the colour black. I then put the image
of the cap and headphones under the brush layer
and boosted their saturation levels in the “Hue and
Saturation” adjustment. I then added a “Curves”
adjustment boosting the “Blue” colour channel in
the “RGB” drop down menu. To finish off the main
element, I set the brush layer to “Screen” to give
the illusion of the two other images being painted
on the cover. I then added the album name and
12cm artist name on the bottom right of the canvas and
rotated them slightly (I took the name of the font as
this would be a consistent font throughout all the
ancillary texts which was “TW Cen MT Condensed
Extra Bold”) For the album title to stand out more, I
changed the colour to white and added a black
“Stroke” in the layer properties and set the
thickness to 3. Finally I chose some other variants
of the “Brush” tool like the grass, stars and leafs
12cm and put them around the canvas and then added a
“Bevel” to the entire canvas to create the spine.
9. MAGAZINE ADVERT
I chose not to use my initial poster as the saturated colours weren’t very attractive to my target audience (Given to 10 people) So
the theme needed to be changed drastically. I then decided to take a photo of some graffiti near central London to exemplify the
View of creative young people making outstanding pieces of art that represent them. To start off with, I placed the model in a
position on the canvas and resized it. I
then added the image of the CD cover to
the right of the canvas to let the audience
know that this is an advertisement for an
album. I then added some text at the top
right using the “Text” tool to add some
information about the album title and
artist name. I also added text at the
bottom of the canvas including
information such as, release date, other
singles included and the record website. I
added the graffiti background behind the
image of the model and boosted the
saturation level using the “Hue And
Saturation” tool. I then added a slight
“Tint” effect to make the image of the
model blend with the background.
Finally, I used the “Brush” tool to create
the grass and stars around the image to
keep some consistency with the other
ancillary texts (the main model is also
wearing a pair of headphones) Finally for
the grass above the release date
information, I added a 5 colour “Gradient
Map” to match the colours of the graffiti
background.
