3. Expectations
As mentioned in the letter sent to your parents/caregivers there are
expectations on you as a student receiving a course by Video Conferencing.
These expectations are there as an intention to help you gain the most
success possible from your course. If you have problems fulfilling these
expectations we will review your suitability in participating in your course.
If you are having problems please communicate them to your e-Teacher and
to your school e-Dean.
The expectations are…
○ Keep up with your course work.
○ Catch up any work you miss when attending your weekly VC lesson.
○ Inform e-Dean and/or your e-Teacher if you have any problems.
○ Maintains regular contact with your e-Teacher through email, text, fax,
Skype or mail outside of the VC lessons.
○ Work/study effectively.
○ Inform your e-Teacher/e-Dean if you are going to be absent from a class
ahead of time. If you are ill contact your e-Teacher/e-Dean as soon as
possible to let them know and catch up the work.
○ When not in your VC lesson you must be in the timetabled room for that
VC subject.
○ Check in with your e-Dean if you are having any problems with your
course at any time.
Reporting
Like all school courses you will get reports.
However for your VC course they might not arrive with your other school
reports. Each course e-Teacher will do your report at the time set by the
HarbourNet/Farnet Cluster. This might not coincide with your own school
reporting times.
The e-Dean of your school will send the reports home as they are received
and place a copy into your school file.
If your parents want feedback or information about your learning they can
contact your school e-Dean who will gather that information for them.

4. VC Manners
eLearning takes priority over all other school activities. If something very
special is happening, it is important that you inform your e-Teacher.
Behaviour in a VC class is much like a normal class, i.e. you do your work,
behave politely etc. However there are a few quirks that you need to be
aware of.
The VC camera will always show the school which is loudest. This means
that something as simple as coughing, pen clicking or rustling papers can
cause the camera to switch to you. To avoid this it is a good idea to mute
your speaker unless you want to be heard or your teacher indicates that you
are to leave it on.
Remember there is a slight time delay between you speaking and the others
hearing you. Always give others time to respond so you don’t talk over one
another.
Make sure that your eDean shows you how to use the presets and the
document projector and computer as these may be needed during your
lesson.
Arriving on time is important, as you will disturb the lesson flow by being late.
However, it is important that you turn up to the lesson even if you are late.
Because you only have one face-to-face class per week it is important that
you attend if at all possible. If you cannot attend please inform your eTeacher
as soon as possible and organise to catch up on the work.

5. How to use the Regular VC Equipment
1. Turn on the lights (and heater, if necessary).
2. Turn on TV (TV channel should be on S-video).
3. Get VC remote from top of TV- the camera will turn on.
4. Set up the speaker (red light on = mute). Control is on the remote (red
mute button).
5. Push the Near button on the remote. This gives you a full picture of the
room here and allows you to set up the camera the way you want it. (Use
arrow and zoom buttons). This will also allow you to activate the next
functions.
6. Push Directory
7. Have your PIN ready. Highlight 0600class from the directory list. Dial up
by pressing the call button from the remote.
8. Once you have selected and dialled the number it will ask for a PIN. Push
# on the remote to get the keypad icon onto the TV the screen. Then use
the remote to select the PIN. # indicates that you have finished entering
the PIN. If you are told that you have entered the wrong PIN, ensure that
you enter the numbers more slowly and that the remote is pointed at the
TV.
9. Following the acceptance of the pin number, you will be asked to identify
yourself. You should ensure that you have the mute (red colour) off when
you do this.
10. To hang up push the green button on the remote twice.
11. It is important not to turn the TV off.
12. However the document camera should be turned off.
13. Turn off the lights (and Heater)

6. How to return work for eLearning courses.
This is your responsibility.
Your eDean needs to log all movement of material between you and
your eTeacher, so:
● If you need to return work by mail, give it to your eDean.
● For NCEA internal assessments, make sure that a copy is kept of the
work.
● If you want to return work by e-mail, also send a copy of your work to
your eDean
● If material is sent directly to you, you must inform your eDean.
NCEA Information
● NCEA policies regarding re-submissions, etc. will be forwarded to you
by your eTeacher with your course outline.
● At the beginning of the year, any NCEA standards you are entered for
will be registered with your school by your school’s Principals Nominee.
Keeping in Touch
● Check your emails regularly, as this is the most convenient form of
communication between you and your eTeacher.
● Your eDean may schedule regular meetings to check on your progress
and to see if you have all of the resources you require.
● Your teacher may choose to communicate with you via text messaging.
