1. This document provides a lesson plan for using movies to teach phrasal verbs and emotions to 10th grade students. 2. It includes an introduction to phrasal verbs, vocabulary examples with definitions, reading and listening activities using movie clips to identify phrasal verbs, and a grammar activity to practice using phrasal verbs correctly. 3. Additional online resources are provided for students to further practice phrasal verbs on their own time.

During these classes we'll be learning about movies and how they can impact people’s
feelings and emotions, using phrasal verbs and adjectives in the -ing and -ed forms.

4. Introduction
In English, one word can have many different
meanings, phrasal verbs add another one to the
list. One of the best ways to learn this type of
verbs is to pay close attention when listening,
this is the main reason why movies are a great
tool to use for doing so.

This class is for tenth grade.
We use movies as a tool to engage the adolescents to pay
close attention to phrasal verbs that can appear in clips
shown in classes.
Also, we use adjectives in the -ing and -ed forms are
going to be part of the program to show emotions.

8. Phrasal Verbs
She has always looked down on me.
In this example, ‘to look down on someone’ doesn’t mean that
you are looking down from a higher place at someone who is
below you; it means that you think that you are better than
someone.
A phrasal verb is made up of a main verb + an adverb, a preposition or both. Their
meaning is not the same meanings of the individual words themselves. For example:

Here you will learn about some useful phrasal verbs that you will use
talking about movies, and their uses.
Remember: most phrasal verbs that we have in English have more
than one definition. You must be careful and take into account the
context to use correctly a phrasal verb.

13. Phrasal verbs can be intransitive (i.e. they have no object):
We broke up two years ago.
They set off early to miss the traffic.
He pulled up outside the cottage.
Or transitive (i.e. they can have an object):
The police were called to break up the fight.
When the door is opened, it sets off an alarm.
They pulled the house down and redeveloped the site.

toddler had thrown up in her crib last night. He, therefore,
cleaned her bedding up before he chowed down on
breakfast. While he was tucking into his food, however, his
daughter started acting up. She just suddenly broke down
and threw a tantrum on the kitchen floor. After falling
apart for only a few minutes, the tantrum blew over and
his daughter calmed down. Scott then finished eating and
logged onto his computer. But, before he could access the
Internet, the computer blew up. Scott looked the phone
number up, called for technical help, and told the IT
technician off. He only eased up when the tech threatened
to put him on hold.
