1. Emineo Ltd is an engineering company based in Mauritius which provides engineering solutions and project
realisation services to the sugar industry since 2007. The company has a dedicated team of engineers, technicians
and project managers who have a long experience of delivering projects on the African Continent. In addition to
process design, engineering, procurement, project management, construction and quality management services,
Emineo can also design and supply proprietary Cane Preparation and Sugar Processing Equipment. As a Junior
Engineer in the Design Office, my duties consisted of the following tasks, amongst others:
- Engineering Flow Diagrams:
P&IDs: Reading and re-drawing Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) in order to have all Process
Flow Lines tagged with correct Piping, Equipment and Instrument references.
PFDs: Reading, checking and drawing of Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) illustrating the processes being
operated in the factory.
- Design Calculations: Calculation of forces applied by any equipment onto their structures through the
manufacturer’s Live and Dead Load detailing of equipment.
Calculation of forces (Point Loads & Uniformly Distributed Loads) applied by concrete and steel platforms
onto their supporting steel structures in order to obtain the resultant forces applied to the factory floor Level
+0 in order to generate basic civil layouts.
- Structural Design Drawings: After calculating the loads for all equipment and platforms, the supporting
structures, stanchions, hand railing, stair cases, roofing and cladding of the factory building was designed.
Depending on the Client’s own requirements and/or the Country supplying the steel work and/or the
Country in which the factory was located, the Engineering Standards would differ (ISO, BS etc.)
- Plant Layouts: Following P&IDs, PFDs and the Design Calculations, all equipment was drafted in different
views in order to be placed on the Plant Layouts.
Became proficient in the Model Space as well as the Paper Space use of the AutoCAD Mechanical software.
Adopted the company’s approach of using Gridlines in order to draw the different views of the factory as
needed. Created layers for each Level, Grid line and type of item drawn (Equipment, Piping, Steel and
Concrete Structures). Once all drawing foundations were in place, Plan Views for each Levels and Elevation
and Plan Views for each required Grid line were then drawn.
- Piping Layouts: Piping layouts for existing and new piping to be installed were drafted in multiple views in
order to see and avoid clashes for after harvest when maintenance and new equipment were to be installed
in order to avoid any costs to the factory whilst operating.
Actively participated in plans for a factory expansion which involved a lot of communication with the
overseas Chief Site Supervisor via the Skype ‘Share My Screen’ feature in order to anticipate future Piping
Layout clashes.
Was praised by my local Superiors and the Site Supervisor for the quality of my work.
- Other work done: Was the main Junior Designer involved in the design of a 12 Ton water/clear juice heater
lift (up to Level +6000mm) for a factory where overhead clearance was too low for cranes to access. Was
solely responsible for the drafting and overall layout of the plans to be send to the Chief Site Supervisor and
oversaw all communications.
Was also the main Junior Designer assigned to design a tube lifting frame in order to lift 12m long Evaporator
tubes up to an oversized (24m high) Juice Evaporator.
Participated in multiple video conferences with the company’s major business partner via their private IP
‘Visio Conference’ network.
Cone and Wye Connection developments were also needed on certain projects.
Was praised by my superiors for the high quality of my presentation and professionalism in communications
with my colleagues.
