This document summarizes a community design project in Chile that aimed to help a children's residence become more self-sufficient. A group of design students worked with the children and staff to understand their needs and co-create solutions. They developed a plan focusing on fundraising efforts to cover necessary expenses not provided by existing subsidies. The students involved the children in activities to help them feel ownership over their living space and empowered in improving their situation. Through experiences like growing their own vegetables, the children gained skills and a greater sense of belonging and ability to provide for themselves.
