Medical device manufacturers struggle to achieve the efficiency of high volume commercial manufacturers while adhering to stringent regulatory quality and traceability requirements. This presentation will demonstrate how to implement an automated manufacturing process control system that meets and surpasses ISO 13485 and FDA requirements in a lean manufacturing environment. With limited modifications to commercially available software, manufacturers can recognize benefits including: expedited new product introduction (NPI); reduced production costs; improved operating efficiency; and increased quality & traceability.

Rockwell Automation technology was used to help Bausch & Lomb, one of the world’s largest suppliers of eye health products, create a framework for better enterprise-wide decision-making. We migrated Bausch & Lomb from a legacy DCS to the PlantPAx system. Using FactoryTalk Historian, we dramatically improved data storage, connected enterprise-level data with plant-level data and provided stakeholders with access to critical production and supply chain information. This automation technology has paid great dividends for Bausch & Lomb, and we will share how it can be successfully integrated.
A smarter planet starts with the innovation of smarter products. Engineering teams driving this innovation need new, collaborative ways to develop and deliver the right demands on time, on budget, and with the right quality. Rational® Workbench for Systems and Software Engineering (Workbench) software provides integrated and collaborative capabilities for such systems delivery teams.
Systems delivery is often divided into multiple categories, for example, systems engineering, project management, software engineering, and quality management. These categories interconnect across the systems delivery life cycle, performing distinct tasks and creating distinct life cycle work products. The IBM Rational Workbench for Systems and Software Engineering software is a life cycle management solution that supports such collaborative tasks and linking of the life cycle work products. The Workbench also enacts the systems delivery workflows and provides task management capabilities to effectively run the systems delivery project.

Efficient management of documentation is key to the successful development of new molecules. It is also often one of the most challenging aspects of managing a clinical program. There are efficiencies to be had through the use of an electronic system compared to paper, however, these systems can be time consuming and expensive to put in place. This webinar will focus on the challenges and opportunities that small to medium enterprises face when trying to improve their document management processes within the context of clinical trials.
Topics will include:
• Where we have come from and where we are today
• Drivers to adopt electronic document and records management
• Changing regulatory expectations
• What are my options – Paper, On-Premise, Cloud
• Benefits of a structured approach to EDM
• Document Management Challenges faced by SMEs
• Montrium’s approach to delivering Document Management for the Life Sciences in the cloud
• Future Trends in Records Management

As test managers, we face challenging situations that require us to draw on our past experiences, principles, and good practices in order to have any chance at all for success. Michael Wasielczyk faced this challenge immediately after joining T. Rowe Price. He started his new job, responsible for managing the testing effort on a mission-critical data warehouse, and he had no experience managing a data warehouse testing effort. In addition, Michael found there were no formal practices for software development or testing. In fact, the establishment of an independent test team was a foreign concept to the corporate culture. A team of on-shore and off-shore testers arrived at the same time as Michael. Development was underway. A delivery date for the project had been communicated and could not be missed. So, how did he possibly succeed? Michael describes the challenges he faced over the following 205 days, the guiding principles he used, and the key decisions he made along the way. He shares the value of management support, tailoring best practices to the situation at hand, and understanding what battles are worth fighting for. Join Michael to learn how you can better prepare yourself when faced with a similar situation.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
