Drugs And Drug Use
"Monkey see, monkey do" is a phrase that almost everyone has heard this at least once. This phrase means that people will do whatever they see
other people doing. In this case it relates to juveniles doing drugs. They do not just get the idea one day to do drugs without first being exposed to it
by someone close to them or just seeing someone do it in front of them. Juveniles are still kids so they are curious about how things work. Most times
when a juvenile is a high– risk youth and are using drugs, they have usually seen a family member or a close friend doing a drug and want to try. When
adolescents become unable to function is when they abuse drugs. If an adolescent is unable to attend or perform in school or to maintain social and ...

Adolescents that use drugs and drink alcohol are more likely to get pregnant or impregnate someone else. When they are under the influence of drugs
or alcohol they are hindering their brain, which makes it harder for them to think logically. Once someone get pregnant or impregnate someone else
they are more likely to become a teenage parent, higher chances of dropping out of school, and prematurely living independently from parents and
guardians. Which then in turn raises the chances of the adolescents using drugs or drinking alcohol. If a person leaves school before graduation may
not have any choice but a low–paying unskilled job, which in turn produces job instability and ongoing economic disadvantages. There has long been
a debate on whether drugs cause delinquency or if delinquency leads to drug use or whether some other factors precede both delinquency and the
onset of drug use. Considerable research has shown that delinquency tends to precede the use of drugs. Alcohol use follows a pattern of minor
delinquency and exposure to friends and parents who drink. Marijuana use follows participation in minor delinquency and adoption of beliefs and
values that consistent with those held by peers but opposed by parents' standards. There is very little debate that

Cocaine : Drugs And Drugs
Cocaine
The drug known as cocaine refers to the powder substance extracted from coca leaves. Cocaine is often diluted with fillers or adulterants like talcum
powder, sugar, caffeine, lidocaine, or even amphetamines to increase the amount of product available for distributors and dealers to sell. This drug is
highly addictive, and many fall quickly into abuse patterns; eventually developing an addiction problem. Cocaine users come from all walks of life and
occupations; ranging from the wealthiest persons in the world to individuals living in poverty.
What is cocaine?
What is cocaine? Cocaine is known by many different names: Blow, Charlie, Nose Candy and Coke just to list a few. As a very strong stimulant, this
drug has few accepted medical uses. It is a schedule II substance described by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) as: "...drugs with a high
potential for abuse, with use potentially leading to severe psychological or physical dependence. These drugs are also considered dangerous."
Cocaine is used medically for numbing and reducing bleeding during nasal surgery. Recreationally, cocaine is often abused for its ability to create a
sense of euphoria, increase the user's energy level, bring on feelings of happiness, as well as to diminish feelings of fatigue and hunger.
When used recreationally, cocaine is typically sniffed in its powdered form. Users will create lines of cocaine (sometimes known rails), then use
rolled up banknotes, a piece of paper, a straw or

Drugs And Abuse Of Drugs
Drugs and Abuse Abuse of drugs can have effects on the user even after the use of drugs has stopped. Different drugs produce different effects,
depending on the user, type of drug, and severity of abuse. New research is done every day in the area of drug abuse that makes finding accurate
results on the broad topic of drug abuse very difficult. From the most recent studies only can one find data that is presently accepted as correct. These
numerous studies provide enough data to explain the effects of both legal and illegal drugs. To understand how drugs work, it is Important to
understand the changes that take place in different areas of the body when drugs take effect. Found in the brain are the synapses, the interaction point
of two neurons (Perrine, 1996). The synapses in the brain are often the main target of a drug, altering the perception of something at the point of
perception. When a drug is taken, it attaches itself to receptors in the brain, which have a pattern chemically similar to the neurotransmitters that send
and receive messages in the brain. Certain drugs can attach themselves to these receptors, they may become blocked, and the neurotransmitters
originally being sent by the brain 's neurons are forced to wander around the brain until it can find another similar receptor, possibly creating a false
signal (Perrine, 1996). The physiological responses created by these false signals, sent by both the drug and the extraneous neurotransmitters are what

Drugs And Drugs : The Use Of Drugs In Brazil
For centuries, drugs have been affecting people of all places in good and in bad ways. Drugs can be used to heal, but it can also be used to destroy.
Drugs are used by many all throughout the world, especially in Latin American countries. One of them being; Brazil. Brazil is very well known for the
beaches, warm weather, fun people and inviting atmosphere, but with every good thing, comes a bad thing. Brazil is also filled with thieves, poverty and
especially drugs and drug dealers. Many drugs are used all throughout many places, and just like any other country, Brazil is no different. Many
different types of drugs are swallowed, snorted and injected, but the one that is most common and is leaving the biggest impact on Brazil is crack
cocaine. Crack cocaine has been in Brazil since the 1990's, but its use has risen greatly since then. Brazil's border is shared with many other Latin
American countries, and because some of those Latin American countries are the biggest cocaine producing countries, the drug can easily get past the
largely unguarded Brazilian border. Especially in remote locations such as the Amazon where drugs are easily brought through. Most of the world's
cocaine originates from Brazil's Andean neighbors including Bolivia, Peru and especially Columbia. These countries produce, but do not consume as
much of the drug, so it would make sense to assume that the drug is being shipped through the Brazilian border to the slums and middle class

"I 'm Not Addicted," Says Every Addict Drugs are substances that can alter a person's physical or mental state. Drugs have the ability to speed up or
slow down a person's central nervous system, cause hallucinations, and most importantly, relieve stress. There are prescription drugs that are used by
people with medical conditions, but there are also others who abuse illegal drugs or prescription drugs despite the health problems that come with it.
Addicts constantly deny their addiction and claim that they can stop whenever they choose, and others will even tell themselves that it is necessary to
take the drugs for their own make–believe medical conditions. However, drugs and alcohol ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Based on this information gathered, it is easily identifiable that drugs are exposed to everyone including young Americans and not only adults. Drugs
are introduced to people of all ages for several reasons, with media being the major source. Although the advertisement of tobacco in American
television and radio is now banned, there are still countless amount of advertisements for alcohol and pain–relieving drugs today. Even if illegal drugs
such as marijuana and cocaine are not advertised, many television shows and movies have multiple scenes that show the characters abusing drugs
and enjoying its effects. People are more susceptible to taking drugs because of the constant exposure to media portraying that drugs and alcohol are
enjoyable and will relieve stress from the problems that they might have. In the book A Streetcar Named Desire, alcohol was consumed as a way to
forget about reality and escape. Blanche DuBois, a main character of this novel, constantly drank alcohol because she believed that it temporarily
solved her problems whenever she felt stressed or depressed. Blanche drank frequently even though during that time, the 1940s, it was looked down
upon for women to drink alcohol habitually. "Now don't get worried, your sister hasn't turned into a drunkard, she's just all shaken up and hot and
tired" (Williams 19). This scene from the book was when Blanche was refusing the alcohol that Stella was offering to

The War On Drugs And Drugs
The war on drugs is a long going battle and it has created many issues all around the world and as of today the highest prison population can be found
in the United States due to drug charges. About half of the inmates with in federal and state prisons can be found on drug convictions. Those charges
can range from possession of an illicit substance to drug trafficking that surprisingly continues to be an issue in federal and state prisons. How can
United States put an end to the war on drugs?
Many people cope with drug use, abuse, and many inmates who have been convicted on drug offenses deal with addiction as well. The United States
has the leading amount of people within the prison system and most are for drug offenses nevertheless, many of those people contend with drug
addiction. Drug addiction is a disease that so many cope with; it is reliance on a substance and for whatever reason the addiction continues to take
over one's life and choices. Drug abusers can sometimes see a means to an end when it comes to their drug addiction, whether its alcohol, a hardcore
drug like heroin or cocaine, or prescription medication the person will do what it takes to feed their addiction. People have their reasons for why they
need to do drugs, it could be to escape their own reality, a coping mechanism, or it could be just because it makes them feel good. Sometimes that need
can surpass a person's better judgement leading to criminal acts being committed because they need to

Drugs And Illegal Drugs
What does it mean to be drugged? It means losing your health. It means losing the ability to learn. It means losing your family and friends. It means
losing free will. It means losing the joy of living. When a person does drugs, it is likely that they will lose more than what they gain by the drug's
effects. People who use drugs have only one desire in life, to get high. The attitude is now, what the hell do I care? Being drugged also means that
there is the constant possibility of infection, disease, and even death, but that does not matter because an addict only wants their fix.
The definition of a drug is a chemical substance used in the treatment, cure, prevention, diagnosis of disease, or to enhance physical or mental
well–being. Illegal drugs obviously mean drugs that are prohibited and banned by law. Many ask what the difference between legal and illegal drugs is.
Illegal drugs are far highly addictive than the legal ones. Unlike illegal drugs, legal drugs are controlled by law and prescribed by pharmacies and
doctors. Illegal drugs also cause far more damage to the body than legal drugs do.
Illegal drugs are distributed illegally through the illegal drug trade that includes countries in South America, such as Colombia and Jamaica. Other
leading countries in the drug trade are Afghanistan, China, and Mexico. Illegal drugs cause so many problems, apart from the damage it causes to the
body. For example, consuming illegal drugs could lead to financial

DRUG TESTING IN FACILITIES: BEHAVIORS AND CONSEQUENCES THAT AFFECT OUR SOCIETY Throughout life, whether in a
workplace, in athletics, or in a school district, chances are one may be asked to take a drug test. Each year, in the United States, there are
approximately 50,000 deaths due to drugs. Drugs cause our bodies to change, depending on the reaction the drug gives off. Interactions with drugs and,
"other complex social, psychological, and pharmacological factors [that have an] influence [on] the behavior of abusing individuals." In general,
most addicts cannot afford drugs, "so they raise the money through crime," making it unsafe for the environment. Drugs are not only a risk to the
people doing drugs, but are also a risk to the society and innocent people. Since there are thousands of different kinds of drugs in the world today,
how can one imagine a life without drugs? The answer is simple, one cannot. Drugs are a part of everyday life, and are more common now than they
used to be. Random drug testing and effective disciplinary actions with positive testing are essential to keeping workplaces, schools, and thus, society,
at a low risk of harm and danger. People are not going to always comply with the law, so procedures need to be enforced strictly. The process for
random drug testing and consequences should be consistent in society through employees, professional athletes, and students.
Drug testing in the workplace is a necessary process for keeping everyone safe.

Drugs : The Drug Uses Of Drugs And Drugs
Over the past couple of years, the use of opioid painkillers has skyrocketed. And due to this, so has the number of overdoses. The opioid epidemic
is the worst drug crisis that the United States has ever seen. Killing thousands of people and sending many more to either drug rehabilitation
programs or prison. Yet doctors continue to prescribe these addictive painkillers, to patients with little to no restrictions. There are many safer options
than these opioids, including the use of marijuana, which has been overlooked for far too long. Opioids, which are pills such as oxycontin, percocet,
and vicodin, are some of the most dangerous forms of medication and leads to death of thousands. They are generally prescribed by doctors and are
used to treat pain, they act as a morphine–like substance. According to the article, "Opioid Crisis Hits Cities in the United States" from Gale
Student Resource Center, in 2015 alone, over 52,000 people have died from drug overdoses. For comparison, roughly 58,000 U.S. soldiers died in
Vietnam. That's 142 people everyday that are dying from drug overdoses. Keep in mind that these statistics are two years old, and the epidemic has
only gotten worse over time. A different article published by The Washington Post, "Surgeons Were Told to Stop Prescribing So Many Painkillers. The
Results were Remarkable," talks about the effects of not prescribing as many painkillers. It is said that there hasn't been specific guidelines set for

Drug Replacement Therapy: A Positive Approach to Deviance
Deviance is the aspects considered not acceptable to the norms of society. Deviants of society are those individuals who partake in going against the
norms. Drug addiction is a negative form of deviance to society; drug addicts partake in deviant behavior. They are labeled "bad" people because of
society and what society teaches people is normal behavior. Having a drug addiction is not a normal behavior, but it doesn't consider the addict bad or
immoral. Drug addiction is a disease, not a crime. Because of drug addictions, many individuals are arrested and sent to jail or local prisons. In 2015,
the "number of arrests in the U.S. for drug law violations: 1,488,707". (McVay 2017)
Though, these people are not criminals and they have a chronic brain disease, they are treated like criminals because their behaviors are against what
society deems socially acceptable. Incarceration is not what these people need, its drug recovery treatment. "65 percent of the nation's inmates meet
certain medical criteria for substance abuse and addiction, but only 11 percent received treatment for their addictions." (Nations Health 2011) "If all
inmates in need of treatment received such services, the nation would see economic benefits in just one year – even if only 10 percent of the inmates
treated remained sober, crime–free and employed, the report found. For each inmate who remained sober, employed and crime–free, the nation would

would begin smuggling in the 70's things such as cigarettes and marijuana. He would actually become a key player in the "Marlboro Wars" which
was a conflict for control of Columbia's illegal cigarette market. Not only would this prove to be valuable experience for when Pablo would fully
enter the drug business, it only would show that Pablo had no qualms whatsoever about using violence to achieve his goals. In 1975 Pablo finally
was able to get the position that he wanted. A trafficker named Fabio Restrepo was murdered. It is possible that Escobar ordered his murder. Seizing
the opportunity Pablo immediately was able to take control of the cartel and start to build a criminal empire that has never been seen before or since.

Drug Addiction
According to National Institute on Drug Abuse, iIn 2013, a survey reported that an estimated 24.6 million Americans aged 12 or older had used an
illegal drug in the past month. The first time someone uses a drug, it is usually voluntary. This first use is usually to mask certain emotions that they are
currently going through. Repeated use can lead to changes in the brain that challenge an addict's self control and interfere with their ability to resist the
temptation of a drug, this addiction makes them feel better about themselves and forget about the problem they are dealing with at the time. According

Also, when users spend money on a drug addiction, they often no longer have the money to support themselves or their families. Unpaid bills can
lead to legal issues with lending companies, who can begin to repossess the user's assets to pay for the debt. People lose their families due to this,
resulting in losing love, support, a home, and sometimes reasons to want to live. Death is unfortunately not a rare occurrence in drug addiction,
whether it is suicide or overdose, accidental and purposely. According to Carolyn C. Ross, approximately one in three people who lose their lives to
suicide are under the influence of a drug, commonly opiates, such as oxycodone or heroin.
People who use drugs may find themselves face to face with serious legal trouble. Drug–related legal trouble can lead to a criminal record, which can
follow you every time you apply for a job, make an offer on a home, or register to vote. Most companies conduct background checks on potential
employees to make sure they are free of any legal issues and liabilities. A drug crime conviction is usually a huge red flag in the hiring process. Not
being able to acquire a job does not help with the large fines that sometimes come along with possession of an illegal substance. Loss of a driver's
license and revoked profession licensure, especially in public safety, medical, and transit can also cause many problems.

The Drug War On Drugs
In 2009 1,663,582 people were arrested for non–violent drug charges. These people's lives are now forever changed because of a mistake they made.
This mistake is continually made every single day and Americans are being punished in extreme ways for a non violent crime. The United States needs
to decimalize all drugs because the drug war is costly, causes high incarceration rates, and isn't effective as European drug solutions. In the 20th
century, the United States government led a major renewed surge in drug prohibition called the "War on Drugs", this started the US on a spiral that
would harm us all. Since the war on drugs began under the administration of President Richard Nixon, the federal drug–fighting budget has increased
from $100 million in 1970 to $15.1 billion in 2010, with a total cost estimated near 1 trillion dollars over 40 years (drug policy, 2015). The amount
of money that the United States spends on drugs could be used in many better fields of government. A large argument against this is that this money
has been used to help end drug use. If that statement is true, then the DEA is doing a poor job at ending drug use since drug use has gone up since
the war has started. The financial cost of the drug war is not worth it due to progress not being made here in the United States.
Now one argument against ending the drug war is that the DEA would lose its jobs and Americans would suffer, this is false because the jobs that
DEA agents hold would shift from

Illegal Drug Abuse And Drugs
Illegal Drug Abuse
For quite a long time, different types of drugs have been used across the globe. Indeed, the different drugs have been observed to impose varying
impacts on users. While some of the drugs are curative and positive in usage, others are remarkably detrimental and can facilitate the mental and
psychological breakdown of the user and their families. In this respect, many of the detrimental drugs have been illegalized in many parts of the
world. In the United States, for instance, cocaine, cannabis and amphetamines remain prohibited in attempt to curb their usage. Based on statistics
United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, however, the motive of the prohibition is hardly being realized. Illicit use of the drugs has been observed
to be on the rise across the globe, with an estimated 230 million people purported to have engaged in illegal drug use at some stage in their life
(Narconon 3). Worryingly, most of the users happen to be the youthful generations. To this end, this article discusses the various challenges faced by
the families of illicit abusers of illegalized drugs.
To begin with, illicit drug abuse has been implicated in disintegration of many families (Visser 1). Notably, the addicts are often restless and violent.
As such, they are hardly able to engage other family members in constructive discussions. Moreover, the addicts are hardly able to contribute to the
economic stability of the family. In cases where the addicts are employed, most of their

Of course it has negative things associated with it itself. Methadone is also addicting, so the person who is using it can easily abuse it. If methadone
is used as prescribed, it does not create that high feeling and there is not a possibility of the person becoming addicted to it. The person using
methadone would have to take higher dosages purposely than suggested, they would get a high feeling, and just like their original drug addiction to
opiates, they could then become addicted to methadone.
The most common treatment plan would be an inpatient residential treatment plan. **from website** "Licensed residential treatment facilities offer
24–hour structured and intensive care, including safe housing and medical attention. Residential treatment facilities may use a variety of therapeutic
approaches, and they are generally aimed at helping the patient live a drug–free, crime–free lifestyle after treatment." Normally if you go into the
treatment facilities it is either short term that is on an average 90 days or more long term stays from 6 months to a year. This type of treatment plan is
the best in my opinion and the most successful. The drug addict would have 24–hour observation, drug screening, counseling including group and

The Drug Of Drug Addiction
In 1989, a group of criminal justice professionals in Miami–Dade County realized that simply sending drug addicted offenders to prison often meant
these same faces would reappear back in court shortly after being released on parole. They realized that the drug addiction crisis in their community
might be the cause. These professionals attempted to figure out a way to treat this individuals in order to help them rejoin society instead of being
stuck in a cycle of reoffending. They worked together to establish the first Drug Treatment Court. This program was the first of its kind, offering drug
offenders a chance to break the cycle and recover from their addiction. Drug courts are special programs which attempt to rehabilitate defendants rather
than simply punish them. Although these programs vary from location to location, the purpose of these programs is to provide treatment for drug
addicted defendants in hopes that they will be able to overcome their drug habit and stop committing crimes. For about one year, drug court
participants are provided with treatment and services, meet frequently with a judge, are randomly and frequently tested for drug use and can be
sanctioned or rewarded based on their progress. At the end of the program, participants graduate, and in some cases the charges against them are
dismissed. Though the arrest warrant will still appear on background checks, there will be no conviction accompanying the arrest.

Drugs And The War On Drugs
Studies are in and the war on drugs was a massive failure.
This war on drugs was useless because they expected that shunning addicts would diminish drug use.
The problem is, the stigmatization of addiction causes much more negative than positive effects in our society.
It is harder to get back into society: get a job and is pushing people away from admitting they have a substance abuse problem and seeking treatment.
The government made a counter–intuitive system for fighting drugs and it is causing serious harm to our culture.
One of these effects is that,
Nowadays, if someone heard someone else used to do drugs they label you as a second class citizen which makes it much harder to get a job and
merge into society.
When people hear someone did drugs or is doing drugs they have an immediate prejudice against them. They are labelled a criminal, a scourge to
society and are treated like a second–class citizen. It is much harder to get and keep a job. Joining back into society is much harder because many
people don't want to be associated with others shown in such a poor light.
It is much harder to get a job if you have a previous addiction and especially if you have a criminal record because of that addiction. Many employers
do not want to associate with possible legal liabilities because no employer would want someone doing their job under the influence and because of the
previous addiction, they would deem previous drug user more likely to show up under the influence.

More and more people are sucked into the horrible addiction. An addiction is an actual disease that occurs in the brain. Many times these drugs affect
the brain and in result, cause the addiction to occur. More and more there are people coming into the hospital from a heroin overdose, are released
from the hospital, go back out, and inject the drug. The drug is so powerful that these individuals do not see what is happening to them as they slowly
kill themselves.
There are multiple drugs that are classified as narcotics. Narcotics are defined by Merriam–Webster's medical dictionary as, "a drug that in moderate
does dulls the senses, relieves pain, and induces profound sleep but in excessive doses causes stupor, coma, or convulsions." This is an issue when
these narcotics are being abused or taken out of context. There are prescription narcotics, but there are also the street drugs that are being illegally
produced and sold. Prescription pain medications are not a bad thing when they are prescribed and used correctly. Some examples of prescription
narcotics are codeine, fentanyl and hydrocodone. While there are beneficial elements to these medications, there are also side effects. Medline Plus
explains a few side effects as drowsiness, impaired judgement and a strong desire, or craving, for these medications. This is how the addictions begin
to occur.

Cocaine : Drugs And Drugs
Cocaine is a stimulant that is originally derived from coca leaves. This drug is highly addictive and is a relatively old drug, considered to be one of the
oldest known psychoactive substances. Other names for the drug include "coke", "C", "snow", "flake", and "blow". Cocaine was a popular and widely
used drug in the 1980s and 1990s, but is still around today. In the early 1900s, before it was discovered to be an addictive drug, purified cocaine was a
main active ingredient in medicines that treated different illnesses. Cocaine is a fine, white powdery substance that is generally administered by
inhalation through the nose, but can also be dissolved in water to be injected into the bloodstream. Cocaine can also be processed into a rock
crystal known as the drug "crack", which can then be heated up and administered by smoking. Cocaine users take the drug to achieve a "high" and
sense of euphoria described as an increased sense of energy and alertness, extremely elevated mood, and a feeling of supremacy. While this might
sound appealing to users or to anyone who may want to try it, the use of cocaine has a wide variety of negative physiological and psychological
effects on a person. Physically, the use of cocaine can cause the constriction of blood vessels, dilation of pupils, increase in body temperature, heart rate

The Drug Of Illicit Drugs
During the financial crisis in Mexico in 1995, it was estimated that the country's earning from oil exports was equivalent to the same amount of
money involved in the laundering of drugs and that major drug cartels in Mexico continually rake in profits in the region of ten to thirty billion dollars
annually (UNESCOPRESS 2002). This goes to highlight the huge underworld of dealings in illicit drugs, not just in Mexico but globally. Following
the UN Conventions of 1961, 1971 and 1988 states internationally, in particular the US, have waged an arguably failing war on drugs with one of the
underlying motives being the reduction of drug–related crime. Such crimes range from addicts trying to feed their expensive habit through thefts,

The drugs in question are the 250 or so drugs deemed illegal by the UN conventions. Yet a focus on the licit nature of one of the most powerful drugs,
alcohol, will be important in understanding the effects drugs have on crime and the lessons that can be learnt from alcohol prohibition in the past.
One of the main perpetrators of drug related crimes are drug addicts who seek to fund their expensive habits by committing crimes. First of all, it is
important to note that despite the common perception of the drug abuser being a lifeless junkie with no real ambitions research has shown that most
users of illicit drugs are independent individuals who are able to lead ordinary lives (Bennetto and Todd 1997). The minority of illicit drug users who
do suffer from addiction and consequently engage in crime to fund their costly addictions have predominantly been found not to be acting out of
violent impulses, but more out of motivation for money to purchase drugs. Research has shown that most crimes instigated by addicts have been of a
peaceful nature and suggest a greater use of wit than force (Goldstein 1985: 5). What's more, the characteristics attributed to drug abusers, such as
paranoia, introversion and psychotic tendencies have been deemed to be under specific character traits that can be equally attributed to any criminal,
even those who do not take drugs. Comparisons of drug addicted prisoners to non–addicted prisoners has shown that

better. The people in the rehabilitation center look for the best place to locate the drug addict to help them overcome their addiction. As people are
recovered more people are needing the help of special people to show them how to fight their addiction. More and more people go to rehabilitation
centers to get help as well as those people that believe that a rehabilitation center would not help them overcome their addiction. The article, Recovery

Drug addicts
Drug addiction and drug addicts are everywhere. We always see and hear on the news that people on the streets get arrested for possession of drugs.
What we don't see or hear is the person's story of why they use these drugs, because they're immediately charged with possession of illegal substances
and taken to jail. There are some people that deserve to go to jail for possession of drugs. Most of the people who use drugs use it for personal
consumption and most of them are struggling with addiction. Sending a drug addict to jail isn't going to help him/her because as soon as they serve
their time behind bars, the first thing they're going to do is seek the drug again. It's a process that is bound to repeat itself. Drug addicts should be
sent to rehab, some place where they can get help to become sober and detoxed. Every addict has a reason for using drugs, most of them use drugs
to deal with a problem at home, to relieve pain or to feel better because of depression. Maybe they just did them for fun at first but soon found
themselves addicted. All they need is help, they need to be sent to rehab so they can find another way to deal with whatever they might be going
through. Addictions is the most difficult thing a person can over come. They should be sent to rehab because it could save their lives. For example,
theirs a man that has a nice paying job, a good house, good cars, a loving wife, and son. He has a nice life in general. Until one day, an accident

Drug Use Of Drugs
Drug use has it's place in all parts of the culture that was built in the United States whether it may be in sports, music, medicine, social norms, and
even recreational use. Everyday things like Coca Cola use to have cocaine inside of the product to make the soda more addicting to the consumer.
Athletes adopted different drugs as a means of enhancing their performances in their prospective sports as well as using them as a means to stay
healthy throughout their season and to recover quicker . Musicians sometimes used drugs as an inspiration to write new music as well as
recreationally to have fun. This created the stereotype that all rockstars use some form of hard drugs. As well as the stereotype of the meathead jock
who juices up everyday before a big game.
Musicians across the country continue to be affected and changed by drug use. Musicians such as Miley Cyrus, Snoop dogg , Wiz Khalifa, and more.
Some bands even use certain drugs to get some inspiration for their music. The most famous example is the Beatles's hit song Lucy and the Sky of
Diamonds which many have questioned to be named after the many trips the beatles had off of LSD as you can shorten the title to LSD which was
the drug they most commonly used at the time. The Beatles would use benzedrine in the days before they became the group of men they are known as
today. The Beatles continued to progress onto harder drugs such asCannabis and LSD as they became more famous and towards the end of the 1960s. It

Drug Testing : A Drug Test
Drug testing in the workplace started happening in 1988 and till this day is still continuing. Not until 1991 did they start drug testing on employees
who work on aviation, trucking, railroads, mass transit, and pipelines. Today, mostly everywhere you apply for a job a drug test is mandatory. Which
is reasonable because if illegal drugs are involved, drug use can affect workplace concentration and judgment which could put the employee at risk. But
should a drug test be required only for those in public transportation sector jobs? Although a drug test shows whether if a person has done drugs
recently or not, there are many ways that people can beat a drug test. So how does one truly know if the person is still doing drugs after he/she
passes the test? Drug tests should not be required whether it is for any or public transportation sector job because it does not prove whether if an
employee has fully stopped using the drug therefore making no justification to the drug test at all. The most common drug screens that employers
request are the five panel. The five panel which tests for the five most common street drugs, such as marijuana, cocaine, phencyclidine (PCP),
amphetamines and opiates. All the drugs listed affect a person in a negative way but some are worse than others. Marijuana tends to slow the body
down, a person will have less energy and feel as if they do not want to do anything. They start having lack of focus and motivation which it can really

Pain Pills are a very common drug that is used in society these days. Most pain pill drug addictions are long term. A long termdrug addiction can put a

drug users are usually taking pills. There are millions of pills that people abuse. One common pill that people abuse is OxyContin. OxyContin are
very strong painkillers. The doctors usually prescribe them to people that have cancer or for severe muscle pain. The reason this drug is highly
abused is because it gives u morphine like high. Most people that abuse the drug crush it into a powder form and snort it or inject it. Injecting a
drug is very dangerous. When u inject a drug it harms you because most pills are time released pills and when u crush them and shot them in ur
vein it gives u all of it at once. Most long term drug abusers don't think about what they are doing to their bodies. Long term pill abusers are
depressed quit often. The reason long term drug users get depressed is a person develops a tolerance to drugs, it will take

A. Introduction About $800 Billion worth of drugs are sold every year. The drug industry has affected agriculture in various ways. While some may
think that drug industry has done good for the agriculture industry. It has also had repercussions. Drugs not only affect our ecosystem, it also affects us
human beings, animals, and plants. It's similar to a cycle, we start off with the ecosystem, which then leads to plants, then the animals, to human
beings. If the drug industry is affecting the whole agriculture industry it's affecting the whole world. Drugs affect our ecosystem by the pollution, drugs
affect plant growth, drugs affect animals development, and all of these affect what we has humans eat on a daily basis. If something goes wrong
because of the drugs that the farmers are using, at the end it will affect humans beings that have either consumed or inhaled; and it will be corrupting
the whole agriculture industry which could've been prevented.
B. Drug History A little bit of history of how marijuana began to go high in demand. Marijuana was one of the first drugs that became popular. In
1616 tobacco was known as the expert item because of Jamestown. Spaniards found the natives in the West Indies using the tobacco plant. The
spaniards then took some of the tobacco seeds to Europe, which then ended up spreading to other countries and around the Mediterranean Sea. The
person who discovered this was, John Rolfe. He then began to do a test trial

Drugs And Drug Abuse
As we all know drugs are given to you by a doctor for a specific purpose, either to cure an illness or treat an ongoing disease. Otherwise taking
prescription drugs can be dangerous for your body and overall physical health. To go with this they can be very addictive if someone starts to take
them for recreational purposes. Just as hard drugs can take control of someone's life, so can prescribed drugs if is it not a monitored situation.
Anyone who starts to abuse hard drugs such as Crack or Heroin can run into serious health issues. They are addicting and dangerous substances
which can cause major long term damage, sometimes the damage in irreversible if the situation has gone to far. Substances that your body does not
want are being injected directly into your bloodstream, not only is the risk of illness phenomenally high but there is potential that any dose could be
your last. Over 50,000 Americans overdosed on drugs in 2016, showing that fatal accidents are not a rare occurrence when it comes to substance
abuse. There are many reasons as to why the victim may have died from shooting up. The batch that was supplied to them may have been bad, not
having the correct balance of ingredients. The victim may have put too much into his blood stream, causing a fatal reaction to the dosage. Or they may
just have done it for the first time and had a bad reaction to what they put in their body. Drugs are lethal substances and should not be taken lightly,

Thousands of families across the United States deal with a child or family member struggling with drug addiction; Toledo, Ohio is one of the top
cities facing a heroin epidemic. Many people try to avoid the fact that this epidemic is hitting Toledo as hard as it is. Unfortunately, avoiding this
situation will only allow it to grow and more people will suffer from addiction because they feel there is no way out. Craig Thomas from WTOL 11
reported that "the drug is so powerful that people will do anything to get money to get drugs. Police say heroin is causing crime that hits innocent
victims." The route from Detroit, Michigan to Toledo, Ohio is famously called Heroin Highway because of how many drugs are being transported
using that route. If no changes are made in the city, more drug dealers will gain seniority throughout the city and more lives will be taken. The only
solutions to help this problem are to hire more law enforcement, give the drug dealers a longer sentence when arrested for the act of dispersing a
lethal drug and the best solution would be to open more detox/ treatment centers for the addicts who are ready to receive help. One solution to fend
off the heroin epidemic is to hire more law enforcement. By hiring more police officers it would put more men and women on the streets observing
more suspicious locations or common drug areas in Toledo. Which would then help arrest more drug dealers in the area. By taking more dealers off the
streets, it makes it

The Effects Of Drug Overuse On Drugs
Drug overuse has raised considerable awareness for several decades and individual who have drug overuse problems usually have difficulty
controlling their drug intake or even their normal life. Approaches like Harm minimisation has been used in policies, programmes and practices to deal
with problems associated with drug overuse. The drug policy of Australia is based on harm minimisation and lots of Australians take at least one
psychoactive drug on a regular basis, such as some kinds of medication, alcohol, tobacco and illegal drugs that all have a potential risk to cause harm
(Australian Drug Foundation, 2014). Harm minimisation is one of the most effective approaches towards drug overuse. This essay will examine how
the Harm minimisation approaches deal with drug overuse and evaluate three Harm minimisation programs, respectively, Needle and Syringe
programmes, Methadone Maintenance Treatment, Medically Supervised injecting Centres.
Harm minimisation (Harm Reduction) refers to policies, programmes and practices that aim to reduce harms that associated with over use of both legal
and illegal psychoactive drugs (Harm Reduction International, 2016). Harm minimisation approaches mainly focus on reducing harm, ensuring safe
use and not always abstinence, which weaken the adverse consequences of drug overuse and benefit not only the individuals who over use drugs but
also their families and the community (Stoicescu, 2012). Generally, Harm minimisation follows a pragmatic

Introduction heroine is a highly addictive, and also illegal drug. It is made from the resin of poppy plants. The opium is used to make morphine, then
further into different forms of heroine. It was from opium that morphine, a derivative, was developed as a pain killer in approximately 1810. It
eliminated severe pains, many of times used for medical operations. It made who ever used it be completely numb.Heroin was first made by Alder
Wright in 1874 from morphine. Heroine is made from a black sticky substance known as tar. Methamphetamine is a central nervous system stimulant
drug and most of the meth abused in this country comes from other countries or domestic superlabs, although it can also be made in small areas
like a garage, or illegal laboratories, where its production dangers the people within the labs, neighbors, and the environment. Opioids are a class
of drugs that have heroine in it and act as pain relievers and can be obtained legally such as OxyContin, Hydrocodone, Vicodin, Codeine, morphine,
and fentanyl. Opioid pain relievers are usually are usually safe when taken for a short time and not a long period of time and also when prescribed

For the research on drug use and societal or natural disaster, there is various findings on drug users' lives, before and after disasters. This paper gives
a broad explanation of their trauma & stress, housing life styles, and health risk during times of disaster. These topics show the studies on people
whom partake in drugs such as Crack/Cocaine Heroine on the day–to–day basis. The researched for this paper worked with the usagers directly to
affect the health of those in these situations. Trauma & Stress People that are users of drugs, and more specifically crack, heroine, and other cocaine

earlier traumas and events in their lives. The events of natural and unnatural disaster cause an immediate amount of stress for those whom fall in this
category. The people falling under this category not only have the stress from their past, present events and possible disaster events, but also the high
chance of mental illness. Fifty–four African–Americans from New OrlГ©ans were compared to a sample of 162 people from Houston, in this study

Drugs And Illegal Drugs
3: Latin America has been producing a lot of illegal drugs. I learned a lot about this. They traffic illegal cocaine and cannabis (or marijuana) in many
ways that are unimaginable. I was searching around for things that would help with this part of the project, and they have a working submarine made
for bringing cocaine around. It was eventually seized by Ecuador Anti–Narcotics.
Some areas have marijuana legalized for medical uses but people misuse this for recreational reasons. It raises "a new class of violence," says Bernt
Aasen, director of the UNICEF. It is affecting their area by new crime going along, which can lead to massive shoot–outs. Did you know 32% of Latin
Americans are living in areas with violence, drug addiction, and problems with authorities.
This drug trafficking leads to a lot of gangs rising up. There is between 25,000 and 125,000 gang members in Guatemala, El Salvador, and
Honduras. Several young people are getting involved with drugs as if delivering, cooking, and doing them. As the rise of this happens it makes a lot
of other crimes come out, and I am not going to give examples because this is a 6th grade project. This leads families finding out about their act in the
drug game. Then, of course, they will get a punishment of some sort.
The Latin American countries are very strict about drug use. Even though they are strongly disagree with drugs, it doesn't stop citizens. The
combination of weak government and powerful cartels causes the

The Drug Of Drugs And Crime
There has always been a close association between drugs and crime. Drugs have been seen as a way out of suffering in one's life and so as long as
there is suffering there will always be a market for drugs. The struggle to keep one's self sane when away from a substance they need can cause them
to do crazy and even violent things to others. Things like murdering someone because they did not have proper control of themselves is not something
unheard of by any means. These people can been seen as both victims and criminals, as they were not in a sound state of mind when doing these
actions, however them doing the actions does not mean they should get off scot–free. The users are only one side of the coin, the other is the drug
dealers. The dealers do not have to be selling purely illegal drugs, they may be selling prescription drugs too, but in the pursuit of their own survival in
a struggling life, they turn to selling substances to others. By doing so they can even amass a fortune, but this is still a crime, and what people will do to
try to get all this potential money can span from robbing to murder. The articles I read from different media support the fact there is indeed a tie with
crime and drugs, being that an increase of drugs on the street leads to more crime.
The Huffington Post had an interesting article that discussed the racial component to crimes and drugs. Stating that blacks were sentenced much more
frequently for drug related crimes than whites, though

Drugs And Psychoactive Drugs
Psychoactive drugs are chemicals that affect the nervous system. When a psychoactive drug is taken it can cause changes in mood, emotions, feelings
and thoughts. These drugs can also change how a person perceives things and can alter the consciousness of that person (Plotnik & Kouyoumdijian,
2014).
Psychoactive drugs can be illicit or licit, illegal or legal. Both licit and illicit psychoactive drugs can cause affect a person. Some examples of licit
psychoactive drugs are coffee, alcohol, and tobacco. Cocaine, heroin, and LSD are all examples of illicit psychoactive drugs. In most cases the illicit
psychoactive drugs have some more recognizable symptoms. But both illicit and licit drugs cause visible symptoms in the people that use these ... Show

Even after a addict has stopped using a drug they often relapse and begin using the drug again. Both behavioral and environmental factors play a role in
addiction. Some environmental factors that can play a role in addiction are parents, family members, and peers abusing drugs. These environmental
factors play a role in a person developing an addiction because they are around it and see it, that is all they know. Genetic factors are inherited. If a
parent is an addict the children is likely to be a addict. People who have an addiction are likely to build up a tolerance against the drug. Tolerance
means a person who uses a drug repeatedly over a period of time, the original dosage of the drug will not give the desired effect, so a higher dosage is
needed to get the desired effect ("Addiction", 2017).
Dependency
There are two main types of dependency. The first type of dependency is physiological dependency, this means that the change in the nervous system so
that a person now needs to take the drug to prevent the occurrence of painful withdrawal symptoms. Withdrawals are painful physical and
psychological symptoms that take place after a person who is dependent on drugs stops using the drug. Withdrawals can cause various side effects that
range from uncomfortable pain to fatality. Some of the symptoms of withdrawal are fatigue, anxiety, vomiting, depression,

The Drug Of Drug Abuse
America has been fighting drug abuse for over a century. Four Presidents have waged a "War on Drugs" and unfortunately, this war continues to
be lost at an alarming magnitude. Drug abusers continue to fill our courts, hospitals, and prisons. The drug trade causes violent crime that ravages
our neighborhoods. Children of drug abusers are neglected, abused, and even abandoned. The current methods of dealing with this issue are not
working. Our society needs to implement new and effective laws and programs to address the problem of drug abuse. Drugs first surfaced in the
United States in the 1800's, with the use of opium during and after the Civil War. Cocaine followed in the 1880's and the abuse of these drugs at
the end of the 19th century reached epidemic proportions. Morphine was discovered in 1906 and soon became a huge problem as well. Drugs were
no longer being viewed as harmless remedies for aches and pains. The Harrison Narcotics Act, passed in 1914, was the United States' first federal drug
policy. The aggressively enforced act restricted the manufacture and sale of marijuana, cocaine, heroin, and morphine. During this time there was a
worldwide movement limiting opium and coca crops and by World War II, American drug use had become a rare, marginal social problem. During the
1960s, drugs like marijuana, amphetamines, and psychedelics were developed and a new generation was exposed to drugs. Marijuana became
fashionable on college campuses and users sought to expand

Drug addicted teenagers can be remedied through them better prevention programs and education. Drugs have been misused by people of all different
ages but, mainly by young adults. They use them mainly because they are depressed or think drugs will help them escape their problems.
Background
To find out if a teen is using and or addicted to drugs monitor their action. Next have a conversation with them about drugs. If they seem to act nervous
and jittery about it than most likely they have had it before. After that explain to the teen how they should feel about drugs and some reasons not to use
them. During this conversation there should be a connection between the people interacted with the conversation. Some signs of drug abuse are
breaking curfew, mood swings, and violet behaviors. There are many more signs that are there but being able to catch the teens actions is very hard.
They most likely the teen will not confess or admit to using drugs. They should be aware of the consequences drugs can do to the body. As it is
known different drugs has different effects on the body. Drugs have been around for a long time and there are many different reasons for them. They
have been misused by teenagers over the years, but more teens are using drugs daily. Young adults do not deal with their problems in a healthy way,
instead they turn to drugs as a solution. Teens who abuse drugs have had some type of issue in their family. Drugs impact the health of a young adult

The Drug Of Drug Abuse
Introduction Cocaine is an addictive drug that comes from the coca plant. How cocaine is made and ingested are the primary differences between
powdered and crack cocaine. It can be ingested in multiple ways, but inhaling and smoking are the most common. Powdered cocaine is a white
substance that is snorted and absorbed through the nasal tissue. Crack cocaine is made by dissolving cocaine with an alkaline (like baking soda), then it
turns into a sheet that can be crushed out into "rock" form. In 1986, Congress passed the Anti–Drug Abuse Act. Anyone caught with one gram of crack
cocaine would receive the same sentence as another caught with 100 grams of powdered cocaine. Not too long after, Congress enacted a mandatory
5–year sentence for anyone caught with 50 grams of crack (500 grams of powdered) cocaine. Crack is punished this severely for many reasons,
mainly being considered more dangerous, addictive, and its involvement with gangs and gun violence compared to powdered cocaine. My literature
review will include how this disparity has affected people of color, the changes in the laws, and changes in the prison system.
Literature Review Crack was said to be addictive from within its first use. Government sponsored programs have shown that less than one in four try
the drug again. Cocaine had many for legal usages at the turn of the century. Cocaine was available in the United States and used in medicines, tonics
and soft drinks. Cocaine addictions begun to rise and

Drugs And Drugs : Depression And Addiction To Drugs
Abusing hard drugs and getting addicted may come from low self esteem which can cause many problems. People with low self esteem have more of a
hard time getting over negative thoughts or feelings, which can cause them to turn to drugs to change these thoughts and feelings to positive ones.
Depression and anxiety also factor in drug addiction. Depression causes low energy and sadness, and anxiety causes irritability and trouble falling
asleep along with staying asleep. These two can lead someone to turn to drugs such as Mephedrone, Crack and Heroin. These drugs have one thing
in common; they give someone a sense of wellbeing. When people take Mephedrone they experience feelings such as feeling alert, elevated mood
and a sense of wellbeing. Crack can make people experience feelings such as exhilaration, increased confidence and a sense of wellbeing. Heroin
causes people to have feelings of pleasure, being warm and content and a sense of wellbeing. These all cause intense feelings, and after someone takes
it, they may want more because they no longer have negative thoughts. Depression and anxiety, caused by self esteem issues, can cause drug addiction.
Depression is a big reason people can get addicted to drugs. Depression is a mental illness that involves the mood of a person. This mood disorder
affects how you think, feel and act and can cause problems emotionally and physically. Individuals can experience feelings such as irritability,
hopelessness, loss of interest or

Drugs And Drug Use

  • 1. Drugs And Drug Use "Monkey see, monkey do" is a phrase that almost everyone has heard this at least once. This phrase means that people will do whatever they see other people doing. In this case it relates to juveniles doing drugs. They do not just get the idea one day to do drugs without first being exposed to it by someone close to them or just seeing someone do it in front of them. Juveniles are still kids so they are curious about how things work. Most times when a juvenile is a high– risk youth and are using drugs, they have usually seen a family member or a close friend doing a drug and want to try. When adolescents become unable to function is when they abuse drugs. If an adolescent is unable to attend or perform in school or to maintain social and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Adolescents that use drugs and drink alcohol are more likely to get pregnant or impregnate someone else. When they are under the influence of drugs or alcohol they are hindering their brain, which makes it harder for them to think logically. Once someone get pregnant or impregnate someone else they are more likely to become a teenage parent, higher chances of dropping out of school, and prematurely living independently from parents and guardians. Which then in turn raises the chances of the adolescents using drugs or drinking alcohol. If a person leaves school before graduation may not have any choice but a low–paying unskilled job, which in turn produces job instability and ongoing economic disadvantages. There has long been a debate on whether drugs cause delinquency or if delinquency leads to drug use or whether some other factors precede both delinquency and the onset of drug use. Considerable research has shown that delinquency tends to precede the use of drugs. Alcohol use follows a pattern of minor delinquency and exposure to friends and parents who drink. Marijuana use follows participation in minor delinquency and adoption of beliefs and values that consistent with those held by peers but opposed by parents' standards. There is very little debate that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Cocaine : Drugs And Drugs Cocaine The drug known as cocaine refers to the powder substance extracted from coca leaves. Cocaine is often diluted with fillers or adulterants like talcum powder, sugar, caffeine, lidocaine, or even amphetamines to increase the amount of product available for distributors and dealers to sell. This drug is highly addictive, and many fall quickly into abuse patterns; eventually developing an addiction problem. Cocaine users come from all walks of life and occupations; ranging from the wealthiest persons in the world to individuals living in poverty. What is cocaine? What is cocaine? Cocaine is known by many different names: Blow, Charlie, Nose Candy and Coke just to list a few. As a very strong stimulant, this drug has few accepted medical uses. It is a schedule II substance described by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) as: "...drugs with a high potential for abuse, with use potentially leading to severe psychological or physical dependence. These drugs are also considered dangerous." Cocaine is used medically for numbing and reducing bleeding during nasal surgery. Recreationally, cocaine is often abused for its ability to create a sense of euphoria, increase the user's energy level, bring on feelings of happiness, as well as to diminish feelings of fatigue and hunger. When used recreationally, cocaine is typically sniffed in its powdered form. Users will create lines of cocaine (sometimes known rails), then use rolled up banknotes, a piece of paper, a straw or ... • 3. Drugs And Abuse Of Drugs Drugs and Abuse Abuse of drugs can have effects on the user even after the use of drugs has stopped. Different drugs produce different effects, depending on the user, type of drug, and severity of abuse. New research is done every day in the area of drug abuse that makes finding accurate results on the broad topic of drug abuse very difficult. From the most recent studies only can one find data that is presently accepted as correct. These numerous studies provide enough data to explain the effects of both legal and illegal drugs. To understand how drugs work, it is Important to understand the changes that take place in different areas of the body when drugs take effect. Found in the brain are the synapses, the interaction point of two neurons (Perrine, 1996). The synapses in the brain are often the main target of a drug, altering the perception of something at the point of perception. When a drug is taken, it attaches itself to receptors in the brain, which have a pattern chemically similar to the neurotransmitters that send and receive messages in the brain. Certain drugs can attach themselves to these receptors, they may become blocked, and the neurotransmitters originally being sent by the brain 's neurons are forced to wander around the brain until it can find another similar receptor, possibly creating a false signal (Perrine, 1996). The physiological responses created by these false signals, sent by both the drug and the extraneous neurotransmitters are what ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Drugs And Drugs : The Use Of Drugs In Brazil For centuries, drugs have been affecting people of all places in good and in bad ways. Drugs can be used to heal, but it can also be used to destroy. Drugs are used by many all throughout the world, especially in Latin American countries. One of them being; Brazil. Brazil is very well known for the beaches, warm weather, fun people and inviting atmosphere, but with every good thing, comes a bad thing. Brazil is also filled with thieves, poverty and especially drugs and drug dealers. Many drugs are used all throughout many places, and just like any other country, Brazil is no different. Many different types of drugs are swallowed, snorted and injected, but the one that is most common and is leaving the biggest impact on Brazil is crack cocaine. Crack cocaine has been in Brazil since the 1990's, but its use has risen greatly since then. Brazil's border is shared with many other Latin American countries, and because some of those Latin American countries are the biggest cocaine producing countries, the drug can easily get past the largely unguarded Brazilian border. Especially in remote locations such as the Amazon where drugs are easily brought through. Most of the world's cocaine originates from Brazil's Andean neighbors including Bolivia, Peru and especially Columbia. These countries produce, but do not consume as much of the drug, so it would make sense to assume that the drug is being shipped through the Brazilian border to the slums and middle class ... • 5. The Problem Of Drugs And Drugs Jared Lopez Ms. Gladstone American Literature 3 5/21/15 "I 'm Not Addicted," Says Every Addict Drugs are substances that can alter a person's physical or mental state. Drugs have the ability to speed up or slow down a person's central nervous system, cause hallucinations, and most importantly, relieve stress. There are prescription drugs that are used by people with medical conditions, but there are also others who abuse illegal drugs or prescription drugs despite the health problems that come with it. Addicts constantly deny their addiction and claim that they can stop whenever they choose, and others will even tell themselves that it is necessary to take the drugs for their own make–believe medical conditions. However, drugs and alcohol ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Based on this information gathered, it is easily identifiable that drugs are exposed to everyone including young Americans and not only adults. Drugs are introduced to people of all ages for several reasons, with media being the major source. Although the advertisement of tobacco in American television and radio is now banned, there are still countless amount of advertisements for alcohol and pain–relieving drugs today. Even if illegal drugs such as marijuana and cocaine are not advertised, many television shows and movies have multiple scenes that show the characters abusing drugs and enjoying its effects. People are more susceptible to taking drugs because of the constant exposure to media portraying that drugs and alcohol are enjoyable and will relieve stress from the problems that they might have. In the book A Streetcar Named Desire, alcohol was consumed as a way to forget about reality and escape. Blanche DuBois, a main character of this novel, constantly drank alcohol because she believed that it temporarily solved her problems whenever she felt stressed or depressed. Blanche drank frequently even though during that time, the 1940s, it was looked down upon for women to drink alcohol habitually. "Now don't get worried, your sister hasn't turned into a drunkard, she's just all shaken up and hot and tired" (Williams 19). • 6. The War On Drugs And Drugs The war on drugs is a long going battle and it has created many issues all around the world and as of today the highest prison population can be found in the United States due to drug charges. About half of the inmates with in federal and state prisons can be found on drug convictions. Those charges can range from possession of an illicit substance to drug trafficking that surprisingly continues to be an issue in federal and state prisons. How can United States put an end to the war on drugs? Many people cope with drug use, abuse, and many inmates who have been convicted on drug offenses deal with addiction as well. The United States has the leading amount of people within the prison system and most are for drug offenses nevertheless, many of those people contend with drug addiction. Drug addiction is a disease that so many cope with; it is reliance on a substance and for whatever reason the addiction continues to take over one's life and choices. People have their reasons for why they need to do drugs, it could be to escape their own reality, a coping mechanism, or it could be just because it makes them feel good. • 7. Drugs And Illegal Drugs What does it mean to be drugged? It means losing your health. It means losing the ability to learn. It means losing your family and friends. It means losing free will. It means losing the joy of living. When a person does drugs, it is likely that they will lose more than what they gain by the drug's effects. People who use drugs have only one desire in life, to get high. The attitude is now, what the hell do I care? Being drugged also means that there is the constant possibility of infection, disease, and even death, but that does not matter because an addict only wants their fix. The definition of a drug is a chemical substance used in the treatment, cure, prevention, diagnosis of disease, or to enhance physical or mental well–being. Illegal drugs obviously mean drugs that are prohibited and banned by law. Many ask what the difference between legal and illegal drugs is. Illegal drugs are far highly addictive than the legal ones. Unlike illegal drugs, legal drugs are controlled by law and prescribed by pharmacies and doctors. Illegal drugs also cause far more damage to the body than legal drugs do. Illegal drugs are distributed illegally through the illegal drug trade that includes countries in South America, such as Colombia and Jamaica. Other leading countries in the drug trade are Afghanistan, China, and Mexico. Illegal drugs cause so many problems, apart from the damage it causes to the body. For example, consuming illegal drugs could lead to financial ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In general, most addicts cannot afford drugs, "so they raise the money through crime," making it unsafe for the environment. Drugs are not only a risk to the people doing drugs, but are also a risk to the society and innocent people. Since there are thousands of different kinds of drugs in the world today, how can one imagine a life without drugs? The answer is simple, one cannot. Drugs are a part of everyday life, and are more common now than they used to be. Random drug testing and effective disciplinary actions with positive testing are essential to keeping workplaces, schools, and thus, society, at a low risk of harm and danger. People are not going to always comply with the law, so procedures need to be enforced strictly. The process for random drug testing and consequences should be consistent in society through employees, professional athletes, and students. • 9. Drugs : The Drug Uses Of Drugs And Drugs Over the past couple of years, the use of opioid painkillers has skyrocketed. And due to this, so has the number of overdoses. The opioid epidemic is the worst drug crisis that the United States has ever seen. Killing thousands of people and sending many more to either drug rehabilitation programs or prison. Yet doctors continue to prescribe these addictive painkillers, to patients with little to no restrictions. There are many safer options than these opioids, including the use of marijuana, which has been overlooked for far too long. Opioids, which are pills such as oxycontin, percocet, and vicodin, are some of the most dangerous forms of medication and leads to death of thousands. They are generally prescribed by doctors and are used to treat pain, they act as a morphine–like substance. According to the article, "Opioid Crisis Hits Cities in the United States" from Gale Student Resource Center, in 2015 alone, over 52,000 people have died from drug overdoses. For comparison, roughly 58,000 U.S. soldiers died in Vietnam. That's 142 people everyday that are dying from drug overdoses. Keep in mind that these statistics are two years old, and the epidemic has only gotten worse over time. A different article published by The Washington Post, "Surgeons Were Told to Stop Prescribing So Many Painkillers. The Results were Remarkable," talks about the effects of not prescribing as many painkillers. It is said that there hasn't been specific guidelines set for doctors prescribing ... Deviants of society are those individuals who partake in going against the norms. Drug addiction is a negative form of deviance to society; drug addicts partake in deviant behavior. They are labeled "bad" people because of society and what society teaches people is normal behavior. Having a drug addiction is not a normal behavior, but it doesn't consider the addict bad or immoral. Drug addiction is a disease, not a crime. Because of drug addictions, many individuals are arrested and sent to jail or local prisons. In 2015, the "number of arrests in the U.S. for drug law violations: 1,488,707". (McVay 2017) Though, these people are not criminals and they have a chronic brain disease, they are treated like criminals because their behaviors are against what society deems socially acceptable. Incarceration is not what these people need, its drug recovery treatment. "65 percent of the nation's inmates meet certain medical criteria for substance abuse and addiction, but only 11 percent received treatment for their addictions." (Nations Health 2011) "If all inmates in need of treatment received such services, the nation would see economic benefits in just one year – even if only 10 percent of the inmates treated remained sober, crime–free and employed, the report found. • 11. Pablo's Drug Drugs because there is a trend that in developing countries that things that are taken for granted in America are signs of wealth in Latin America. Pablo would begin smuggling in the 70's things such as cigarettes and marijuana. He would actually become a key player in the "Marlboro Wars" which was a conflict for control of Columbia's illegal cigarette market. Not only would this prove to be valuable experience for when Pablo would fully enter the drug business, it only would show that Pablo had no qualms whatsoever about using violence to achieve his goals. In 1975 Pablo finally was able to get the position that he wanted. A trafficker named Fabio Restrepo was murdered. It is possible that Escobar ordered his murder. Seizing the opportunity Pablo immediately was able to take control of the cartel and start to build a criminal empire that has never been seen before or since. Escobar would end up being responsible for 80 percent of the cocaine that was being transported to the United States in the 1980's. Cocaine is a powerful drug that is deprived from the cocoa plant that is grown in South America. • 12. Drug Addiction : Drugs And Drugs Drug Addiction According to National Institute on Drug Abuse, iIn 2013, a survey reported that an estimated 24.6 million Americans aged 12 or older had used an illegal drug in the past month. The first time someone uses a drug, it is usually voluntary. This first use is usually to mask certain emotions that they are currently going through. Repeated use can lead to changes in the brain that challenge an addict's self control and interfere with their ability to resist the temptation of a drug, this addiction makes them feel better about themselves and forget about the problem they are dealing with at the time. According to the Mayo Clinic, drug addiction, also called substance use disorder, is a dependence on a legal or illegal drug or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also, when users spend money on a drug addiction, they often no longer have the money to support themselves or their families. Unpaid bills can lead to legal issues with lending companies, who can begin to repossess the user's assets to pay for the debt. People lose their families due to this, resulting in losing love, support, a home, and sometimes reasons to want to live. Death is unfortunately not a rare occurrence in drug addiction, whether it is suicide or overdose, accidental and purposely. According to Carolyn C. Ross, approximately one in three people who lose their lives to suicide are under the influence of a drug, commonly opiates, such as oxycodone or heroin. People who use drugs may find themselves face to face with serious legal trouble. Drug–related legal trouble can lead to a criminal record, which can follow you every time you apply for a job, make an offer on a home, or register to vote. Most companies conduct background checks on potential employees to make sure they are free of any legal issues and liabilities. A drug crime conviction is usually a huge red flag in the hiring process. Not being able to acquire a job does not help with the large fines that sometimes come along with possession of an illegal substance. Loss of a driver's license and revoked profession licensure, especially in public safety, medical, and transit can also cause many problems. • 13. The Drug War On Drugs In 2009 1,663,582 people were arrested for non–violent drug charges. These people's lives are now forever changed because of a mistake they made. This mistake is continually made every single day and Americans are being punished in extreme ways for a non violent crime. The United States needs to decimalize all drugs because the drug war is costly, causes high incarceration rates, and isn't effective as European drug solutions. In the 20th century, the United States government led a major renewed surge in drug prohibition called the "War on Drugs", this started the US on a spiral that would harm us all. Since the war on drugs began under the administration of President Richard Nixon, the federal drug–fighting budget has increased from $100 million in 1970 to $15.1 billion in 2010, with a total cost estimated near 1 trillion dollars over 40 years (drug policy, 2015). The amount of money that the United States spends on drugs could be used in many better fields of government. A large argument against this is that this money has been used to help end drug use. If that statement is true, then the DEA is doing a poor job at ending drug use since drug use has gone up since the war has started. The financial cost of the drug war is not worth it due to progress not being made here in the United States. Now one argument against ending the drug war is that the DEA would lose its jobs and Americans would suffer, this is false because the jobs that DEA agents hold would shift from ... • 14. Illegal Drug Abuse And Drugs Illegal Drug Abuse For quite a long time, different types of drugs have been used across the globe. Indeed, the different drugs have been observed to impose varying impacts on users. While some of the drugs are curative and positive in usage, others are remarkably detrimental and can facilitate the mental and psychological breakdown of the user and their families. In this respect, many of the detrimental drugs have been illegalized in many parts of the world. In the United States, for instance, cocaine, cannabis and amphetamines remain prohibited in attempt to curb their usage. Based on statistics United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, however, the motive of the prohibition is hardly being realized. Illicit use of the drugs has been observed to be on the rise across the globe, with an estimated 230 million people purported to have engaged in illegal drug use at some stage in their life (Narconon 3). Worryingly, most of the users happen to be the youthful generations. To this end, this article discusses the various challenges faced by the families of illicit abusers of illegalized drugs. To begin with, illicit drug abuse has been implicated in disintegration of many families (Visser 1). Notably, the addicts are often restless and violent. As such, they are hardly able to engage other family members in constructive discussions. Moreover, the addicts are hardly able to contribute to the economic stability of the family. Adolescents or juveniles who associates themselves with others based on their likes and dislikes will likely engaged in similar activities whether it be good or bad through the influences and encouragements of one another. For example, someone who is a straight A student and follows the norms of society through the morals teaching from his parents when at the company of like mind or his parents will engage in the positive way that he was brought up. But when not around to be encourage of the positive actions; he will engage in deviants acts when he is detached from the norms and associate himself with others that commits deviant acts such as smoking and underage drinking. • 16. Drug Addiction : Drugs And Drugs In today's society, it is now normal to know somebody who has a drug addiction especially to opiates. A drug addiction is a mental disorder that the person can no longer control their actions. The person addicted to the drug will no longer care about the outcome of their actions as long as they can get that high they are seeking. **from textbook pg. 303** "Opioids are classified as narcotics– strongly addictive drugs that have pain relieving and sleep–inducing properties. Opioids include both naturally occurring opiates (morphine, heroin, codeine) derived from the poppy plant and synthetic drugs (Demerol, Vicodin) that have opiate–like effects." Methadone is also addicting, so the person who is using it can easily abuse it. If methadone is used as prescribed, it does not create that high feeling and there is not a possibility of the person becoming addicted to it. The person using methadone would have to take higher dosages purposely than suggested, they would get a high feeling, and just like their original drug addiction to opiates, they could then become addicted to methadone. The most common treatment plan would be an inpatient residential treatment plan. **from website** "Licensed residential treatment facilities offer 24–hour structured and intensive care, including safe housing and medical attention. Residential treatment facilities may use a variety of therapeutic approaches, and they are generally aimed at helping the patient live a drug–free, crime–free lifestyle after treatment." Normally if you go into the treatment facilities it is either short term that is on an average 90 days or more long term stays from 6 months to a year. This type of treatment plan is the best in my opinion and the most successful. The drug addict would have 24–hour observation, drug screening, counseling including group and private. • 17. The Drug Of Drug Addiction In 1989, a group of criminal justice professionals in Miami–Dade County realized that simply sending drug addicted offenders to prison often meant these same faces would reappear back in court shortly after being released on parole. They realized that the drug addiction crisis in their community might be the cause. These professionals attempted to figure out a way to treat this individuals in order to help them rejoin society instead of being stuck in a cycle of reoffending. They worked together to establish the first Drug Treatment Court. This program was the first of its kind, offering drug offenders a chance to break the cycle and recover from their addiction. Drug courts are special programs which attempt to rehabilitate defendants rather than simply punish them. Although these programs vary from location to location, the purpose of these programs is to provide treatment for drug addicted defendants in hopes that they will be able to overcome their drug habit and stop committing crimes. For about one year, drug court participants are provided with treatment and services, meet frequently with a judge, are randomly and frequently tested for drug use and can be sanctioned or rewarded based on their progress. At the end of the program, participants graduate, and in some cases the charges against them are dismissed. Though the arrest warrant will still appear on background checks, there will be no conviction accompanying the arrest. Drug Courts have evolved to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 18. Drugs And The War On Drugs Studies are in and the war on drugs was a massive failure. One of these effects is that, Nowadays, if someone heard someone else used to do drugs they label you as a second class citizen which makes it much harder to get a job and merge into society. When people hear someone did drugs or is doing drugs they have an immediate prejudice against them. They are labelled a criminal, a scourge to society and are treated like a second–class citizen. It is much harder to get and keep a job. Joining back into society is much harder because many people don't want to be associated with others shown in such a poor light. It is much harder to get a job if you have a previous addiction and especially if you have a criminal record because of that addiction. Many employers do not want to associate with possible legal liabilities because no employer would want someone doing their job under the influence and because of the previous addiction, they would deem previous drug user more likely to show up under the influence. ... Many times these drugs affect the brain and in result, cause the addiction to occur. More and more there are people coming into the hospital from a heroin overdose, are released from the hospital, go back out, and inject the drug. The drug is so powerful that these individuals do not see what is happening to them as they slowly kill themselves. There are multiple drugs that are classified as narcotics. Narcotics are defined by Merriam–Webster's medical dictionary as, "a drug that in moderate does dulls the senses, relieves pain, and induces profound sleep but in excessive doses causes stupor, coma, or convulsions." This is an issue when these narcotics are being abused or taken out of context. There are prescription narcotics, but there are also the street drugs that are being illegally produced and sold. Prescription pain medications are not a bad thing when they are prescribed and used correctly. Some examples of prescription narcotics are codeine, fentanyl and hydrocodone. While there are beneficial elements to these medications, there are also side effects. Medline Plus explains a few side effects as drowsiness, impaired judgement and a strong desire, or craving, for these medications. This is how the addictions begin to occur. • 20. Cocaine : Drugs And Drugs Cocaine is a stimulant that is originally derived from coca leaves. This drug is highly addictive and is a relatively old drug, considered to be one of the oldest known psychoactive substances. Other names for the drug include "coke", "C", "snow", "flake", and "blow". Cocaine was a popular and widely used drug in the 1980s and 1990s, but is still around today. In the early 1900s, before it was discovered to be an addictive drug, purified cocaine was a main active ingredient in medicines that treated different illnesses. Cocaine is a fine, white powdery substance that is generally administered by inhalation through the nose, but can also be dissolved in water to be injected into the bloodstream. Cocaine can also be processed into a rock crystal known as the drug "crack", which can then be heated up and administered by smoking. Cocaine users take the drug to achieve a "high" and sense of euphoria described as an increased sense of energy and alertness, extremely elevated mood, and a feeling of supremacy. While this might sound appealing to users or to anyone who may want to try it, the use of cocaine has a wide variety of negative physiological and psychological effects on a person. Physically, the use of cocaine can cause the constriction of blood vessels, dilation of pupils, increase in body temperature, heart rate and blood pressure, headaches, gastrointestinal problems including pain in the abdomen and nausea, and a decrease in appetite. • 21. The Drug Of Illicit Drugs During the financial crisis in Mexico in 1995, it was estimated that the country's earning from oil exports was equivalent to the same amount of money involved in the laundering of drugs and that major drug cartels in Mexico continually rake in profits in the region of ten to thirty billion dollars annually (UNESCOPRESS 2002). This goes to highlight the huge underworld of dealings in illicit drugs, not just in Mexico but globally. Following the UN Conventions of 1961, 1971 and 1988 states internationally, in particular the US, have waged an arguably failing war on drugs with one of the underlying motives being the reduction of drug–related crime. The drugs in question are the 250 or so drugs deemed illegal by the UN conventions. Yet a focus on the licit nature of one of the most powerful drugs, alcohol, will be important in understanding the effects drugs have on crime and the lessons that can be learnt from alcohol prohibition in the past. One of the main perpetrators of drug related crimes are drug addicts who seek to fund their expensive habits by committing crimes. First of all, it is important to note that despite the common perception of the drug abuser being a lifeless junkie with no real ambitions research has shown that most users of illicit drugs are independent individuals who are able to lead ordinary lives (Bennetto and Todd 1997). The minority of illicit drug users who do suffer from addiction and consequently engage in crime to fund their costly addictions have predominantly been found not to be acting out of violent impulses, but more out of motivation for money to purchase drugs. Research has shown that most crimes instigated by addicts have been of a peaceful nature and suggest a greater use of wit than force (Goldstein 1985: 5). What's more, the characteristics attributed to drug abusers, such as paranoia, introversion and psychotic tendencies have been deemed to be under specific character traits that can be equally attributed to any criminal, even those who do not take drugs. What we don't see or hear is the person's story of why they use these drugs, because they're immediately charged with possession of illegal substances and taken to jail. There are some people that deserve to go to jail for possession of drugs. Most of the people who use drugs use it for personal consumption and most of them are struggling with addiction. Sending a drug addict to jail isn't going to help him/her because as soon as they serve their time behind bars, the first thing they're going to do is seek the drug again. It's a process that is bound to repeat itself. Drug addicts should be sent to rehab, some place where they can get help to become sober and detoxed. Every addict has a reason for using drugs, most of them use drugs to deal with a problem at home, to relieve pain or to feel better because of depression. Maybe they just did them for fun at first but soon found themselves addicted. All they need is help, they need to be sent to rehab so they can find another way to deal with whatever they might be going through. Addictions is the most difficult thing a person can over come. Not until 1991 did they start drug testing on employees who work on aviation, trucking, railroads, mass transit, and pipelines. Today, mostly everywhere you apply for a job a drug test is mandatory. Which is reasonable because if illegal drugs are involved, drug use can affect workplace concentration and judgment which could put the employee at risk. But should a drug test be required only for those in public transportation sector jobs? Although a drug test shows whether if a person has done drugs recently or not, there are many ways that people can beat a drug test. So how does one truly know if the person is still doing drugs after he/she passes the test? Drug tests should not be required whether it is for any or public transportation sector job because it does not prove whether if an employee has fully stopped using the drug therefore making no justification to the drug test at all. While some may think that drug industry has done good for the agriculture industry. It has also had repercussions. Drugs not only affect our ecosystem, it also affects us human beings, animals, and plants. It's similar to a cycle, we start off with the ecosystem, which then leads to plants, then the animals, to human beings. If the drug industry is affecting the whole agriculture industry it's affecting the whole world. Drugs affect our ecosystem by the pollution, drugs affect plant growth, drugs affect animals development, and all of these affect what we has humans eat on a daily basis. If something goes wrong because of the drugs that the farmers are using, at the end it will affect humans beings that have either consumed or inhaled; and it will be corrupting the whole agriculture industry which could've been prevented. Otherwise taking prescription drugs can be dangerous for your body and overall physical health. To go with this they can be very addictive if someone starts to take them for recreational purposes. Just as hard drugs can take control of someone's life, so can prescribed drugs if is it not a monitored situation. Anyone who starts to abuse hard drugs such as Crack or Heroin can run into serious health issues. Drugs And Drug Addictions Thousands of families across the United States deal with a child or family member struggling with drug addiction; Toledo, Ohio is one of the top cities facing a heroin epidemic. Many people try to avoid the fact that this epidemic is hitting Toledo as hard as it is. Unfortunately, avoiding this situation will only allow it to grow and more people will suffer from addiction because they feel there is no way out. Craig Thomas from WTOL 11 reported that "the drug is so powerful that people will do anything to get money to get drugs. Police say heroin is causing crime that hits innocent victims." The route from Detroit, Michigan to Toledo, Ohio is famously called Heroin Highway because of how many drugs are being transported using that route. If no changes are made in the city, more drug dealers will gain seniority throughout the city and more lives will be taken. The only solutions to help this problem are to hire more law enforcement, give the drug dealers a longer sentence when arrested for the act of dispersing a lethal drug and the best solution would be to open more detox/ treatment centers for the addicts who are ready to receive help. One solution to fend off the heroin epidemic is to hire more law enforcement. The Effects Of Drug Overuse On Drugs Drug overuse has raised considerable awareness for several decades and individual who have drug overuse problems usually have difficulty controlling their drug intake or even their normal life. Approaches like Harm minimisation has been used in policies, programmes and practices to deal with problems associated with drug overuse. The drug policy of Australia is based on harm minimisation and lots of Australians take at least one psychoactive drug on a regular basis, such as some kinds of medication, alcohol, tobacco and illegal drugs that all have a potential risk to cause harm (Australian Drug Foundation, 2014). Harm minimisation is one of the most effective approaches towards drug overuse. This essay will examine how the Harm minimisation approaches deal with drug overuse and evaluate three Harm minimisation programs, respectively, Needle and Syringe programmes, Methadone Maintenance Treatment, Medically Supervised injecting Centres. Harm minimisation (Harm Reduction) refers to policies, programmes and practices that aim to reduce harms that associated with over use of both legal and illegal psychoactive drugs (Harm Reduction International, 2016). Harm minimisation approaches mainly focus on reducing harm, ensuring safe use and not always abstinence, which weaken the adverse consequences of drug overuse and benefit not only the individuals who over use drugs but also their families and the community (Stoicescu, 2012). Drugs have been seen as a way out of suffering in one's life and so as long as there is suffering there will always be a market for drugs. The struggle to keep one's self sane when away from a substance they need can cause them to do crazy and even violent things to others. Things like murdering someone because they did not have proper control of themselves is not something unheard of by any means. These people can been seen as both victims and criminals, as they were not in a sound state of mind when doing these actions, however them doing the actions does not mean they should get off scot–free. The users are only one side of the coin, the other is the drug dealers. The dealers do not have to be selling purely illegal drugs, they may be selling prescription drugs too, but in the pursuit of their own survival in a struggling life, they turn to selling substances to others. By doing so they can even amass a fortune, but this is still a crime, and what people will do to try to get all this potential money can span from robbing to murder. The articles I read from different media support the fact there is indeed a tie with crime and drugs, being that an increase of drugs on the street leads to more crime. Four Presidents have waged a "War on Drugs" and unfortunately, this war continues to be lost at an alarming magnitude. Drug abusers continue to fill our courts, hospitals, and prisons. The drug trade causes violent crime that ravages our neighborhoods. Children of drug abusers are neglected, abused, and even abandoned. The current methods of dealing with this issue are not working. Our society needs to implement new and effective laws and programs to address the problem of drug abuse. Drugs first surfaced in the United States in the 1800's, with the use of opium during and after the Civil War. Cocaine followed in the 1880's and the abuse of these drugs at the end of the 19th century reached epidemic proportions. Morphine was discovered in 1906 and soon became a huge problem as well. Drugs were no longer being viewed as harmless remedies for aches and pains. The Harrison Narcotics Act, passed in 1914, was the United States' first federal drug policy. The aggressively enforced act restricted the manufacture and sale of marijuana, cocaine, heroin, and morphine. During this time there was a worldwide movement limiting opium and coca crops and by World War II, American drug use had become a rare, marginal social problem.
