Picking the right technology
for the project you want to
complete.
Activity 1: Different
Presentation Forms
Informative Speeches
These are the most common types of presentations and are used to present your
knowledge about a topic. Preparation for this type of speech involves doing extensive
research on a particular topic. Examples of topics for informative speeches include
dangers of smoking, effective study habits, and pollution effects on the environment.
Demonstrative Speeches
These will show you how to do something. In introduction to communication classes,
these speeches are usually “How to Make Cakes” kinds of speeches and include
different pictures and steps to the process.

Activity 1: Continued
Persuasive Speeches
Persuasive speeches are really just informative or demonstrative speeches at the core. However,
they not only inform the audience but also work to sway their opinions and actions. Therefore, the
goal is to reinforce an existing idea in the audience, or to inflict some change in their current
mindset in order for the audience to take action. For example, if you’ve come to a health
conference you may find yourself listening to why you should change your eating habits or stop
drinking.
Inspirational Speeches
Also considered a “motivational” speech, inspirational speeches are designed to encourage
participants to go after their goals, whatever they may be. Unlike persuasive speeches,
inspirational speeches may use stories, facts, and experiences in the hope that the audience will
feel an emotional connection to the topic. Inspirational speech topics may include overcoming

Activity 3: Continued
Explanation of Answers:
1) Presenting research findings to fellow classmates in a Biology course --
PowerPoint
a) A research project mainly consists of presenting information and graphs to
the audience. PowerPoint allows you to express information through bullet
points and visual graphs which makes it a useful tool for informative
presentations.
2) Providing a tutorial on how to use Google Docs -- ActivePresenter
a) ActivePresenter allows you to record screenshots and audio which makes it
a primary tool used for eLearning/eTraining courses and tutorials.
Category 3 : picking the right
technology for project you want to
complete
Activity 3: Continued
Explanation of Answers:
1) Presenting an inspirational speech on how it’s never too late to chase your dreams in
speech class -- Prezi
a) Prezi is a presentation and storytelling tool that allows you to express your ideas
through an engaging virtual canvas that can display text, images, videos, and audio.
Such engaging features make Prezi a useful tool to engage and inspire the audience
with stories. Although SlideRocket may also be a useful tool for inspirational
presentations due to the engaging features it contains, it also contains collaborative
features which are not needed for such presentations.
2) Pitching a new company product to colleagues around the world and obtaining feedback
through online polls -- SlideRocket
a) Other than the engaging features (e.g., audio, graphics, videos), SlideRocket has
collaborative features that allow you to broadcast presentations to the world, obtain
feedback through interactive polls, and have real-time conversations.
