Template for Writing a Performance Review
Important points to remember:
• Back up or support all your opinions with valid reasons.
• Be objective, fair, and sincere.
• Evaluate the entire production.
• Be constructive. Indicate good points along with those you felt
needed improvement.
• Write in a formal style (check grammar, punctuation, etc.)
• Avoid reading reviews of the play you are reviewing so as not
to be influenced, but do read several reviews of other plays so
you will get a feel for how reviews are often handled.
A critique is an evaluation of a performance of a show. It should contain five
paragraphs and consist of about 750 words, be double spaced, and be written in
Times New Roman, 12pt font.
1. Paragraph 1—The Basics
Begin with an eye-catcher opening and then include answers to the five W’s:
• Who (the playwright, directors, and actors)
• What (the title of the play)
• Where (produced at the name of the school or theatre)
• When (when did you see it?)
• Why (In a few sentences, state the basic themes/messages of the
show. What is the idea, meaning, or message? What is it a
commentary on? What is the tone of the play? (Do not provide
plot summary in this introductory paragraph)
2. Paragraph 2—The Plot
a. Briefly (three or four sentences) summarize the plot of the show.
b. The bulk of the paragraph should address the following: If you could
change anything about the play, what would you change (To suggest
changes to the play, select from one or more of the six elements of drama:
plot, character, theme, diction, music and spectacle. Do not write about
all six elements to which you would make changes.)
3. Paragraph 3—The Acting
Reactions to the performers playing the characters in the play will include
answers to the following:
• Use their real names and character names
• Were they believable? Were they good or poor actors?
• How was their volume and articulation?
• Did their gestures and body movement stay true to the
character?
4. Paragraph 4—The Design (focus on no more than two tangible
elements/production values below. Do NOT write about all four, only two of the
following:)
Set:
• Did it establish a definite mood and correct time period for the
play?
Lights:
• Did they convey appropriate mood, emphasis, and brightness?
Costumes and Makeup:
• Were they true to the period of the show and to the characters?
Sound:
• How did the sound effects and music contribute to the show’s
mood?
5. Paragraph 5—The Reaction and Making Connections to Society
a. Include a statement about how the play connects to your local, regional
and national communities. What aspect of the play resonates in you and
how does the play offer meaning in our world today? Place the play in
context to your communities by addressing how this play help us better

CRITICAL REPORTS
During the course of the semester you are responsible for writing two typed 3-4 page
critical reports. These papers are critiques of a film and play that you watch, and should
be written in the first person (example: I felt that the actress playing Olivia captured
the part perfectly, with small gestures with her hands, showing Olivia’s tendency to be
fussy.)
When writing about plot, please keep the synopsis down to a few (2-4) sentences, no
more than paragraph. You can use plot points, however, to emphasize a point about
pacing, character development, lighting, costumes, etc… (example: When Wesley
becomes enraged at finding his ice cream eaten after dreaming about it all day, the
lights go red, and shift to under lighting, denoting that he’s really ticked off.)
Papers must be:
1. Handed in at the BEGINNING of class. Late papers will be reduced by 10
points off for every class they are late. This includes turning paper in after class
has started.
AND
2. Three to four FULL pages typed. Papers less than 3 full pages will receive 10
points off immediately.
HELPFUL HINTS
-This report is not about summarizing the story. You should assume that the reader is
familiar with the subject matter in question and any story synopsis should be confined to
NO MORE THAN A FEW SENTENCES.
-You can earn an additional 5/10 points extra credit per paper for utilizing the Writing
Center. Papers must have any suggested corrections completed.
-Please make sure that you ITALICIZE or UNDERLINE the play or film titles.
The general outline can be the following, based on the 6 Aristotelian points of dramatic
criticism (theme, plot, characters, language, music, spectacle), and Critical Perspectives
(social, human, aesthetic/artistic, and entertainment values):
1. Give a short introduction of the film/play you are critiquing.
A. WHAT IS BEING DONE?
What is the production attempting to do? Is the production meant to criticize
society or an individual? Is it meant to provide commentary or call to action?
Educate or entertain? What are the characters attempting to do?
(Use Theme and some Plot, Social and Human significances here.)
B. HOW WELL HAS IT BEEN DONE?
Has the creator of the work reached their goals? Have the performers and
director brought the work to life? Have the characters done what they set out
to do?
(Use Character, Language, Music, Spectacle here with Aesthetic/Artistic
points here.)
C. IS IT WORTH DOING?
Is this kind of production valid? Is it meaningful or significant to you…to
others?
(Use Entertainment value here.)

W4 Assignment 1. Discussion
As in all assignments, cite your sources in your work and provide references for the citations in APA format.
Ethics in Healthcare
In this assignment, you will study the role of ethics in healthcare.
Based on your research, respond to one of the following discussion questions.
Discussion Question 1
Read the following article:
Shelton, A., Freeman, B., Fish, A., Bachman, J., & Richardson, L. (2015). American Journal of Critical Care, 24(2), 148-155. doi: 10.4037/ajcc2015983
Ethics guidelines now require that individuals give informed consent to participate in research. Existing ethical guidelines do not help us decide how to seek consent and have allowed managerial experimentation to remain unchecked.
Based on your understanding of the topic and the article, answer the following question:
Do you think that alternative forms of community consent should be actively pursued? Why or why not? How would you feel if your medical records were examined and included in research without your consent based on an illness in the past?
Discussion Question 2
Scenario
Two nurse researchers are interested in studying whether a pain assessment tool for critical care patients is valid and reliable when applied to a group of patients who cannot communicate verbally due to mechanical ventilation. They design a validation study in which randomly selected patients will be assessed using the tool after a painful procedure (tracheal suctioning) and after a non-painful procedure (oral care). If patient responses result in higher scores after the painful procedure than after the non-painful one, then the researchers will conclude that the tool is effective for these patients in differentiating pain responses from responses to nursing procedures in general.
Using the checklist in the text, discuss and draw a conclusion as to whether this study will likely be exempt, expedited, or full review. Explain your rationale.
How to Write From an Informed Audience Perspective
Below are some questions to consider as you write or talk about a theatre production you have attended. All of these may not apply to every show and you may not have strong observations for each one of these things. Always back what you say or write with specific choices, particular moments, details of timing, colors, textures, movement, etc.
Introduction, Thesis and Conclusion:
· Your exit critique should express your opinions and point of view backed up by evidence of examples from the production that caused you to think those things. Your introductory paragraph should contain your thesis statement.
· Your thesis statement should express your point of view—what you think in general about the production and how it was successful or not successful. The body of your paper will then provide details in support of this opinion.
· “A thesis statement focuses your ideas into one or two sentences. It should present the topic of your paper and also make a comment about your positio ...

The Humanities Critical Report involves you in the humanities as an audience member or observer. This activity calls for a detailed critical report on your experience of somebody else’s creativity and skill. For example, you might watch and listen to a live or video performance of a concert, view an art exhibit or museum in person or online, watch a live theatre performance or one recorded on video, or watch a documentary film, or other such events. Fictional or “story” films and television are not allowed for this assignment. If you are uncertain of your choice, just ask.

Every semester, someone turns in the first Critical Report having written about two events OR they turn in the second report having written about the same type of event. Two different events. Two different reports. In selecting an event, keep the following criteria in mind to help you make this event the most appropriate kind of experience for your learning:

Definition of MLA Format
The MLA format is a series of rules and guidelines for writers that have been used since 1985. The writing style prevents plagiarism and allows readers to easily access the sources cited by authors. Because the MLA writing style does not accommodate scientific and technical publications, it is primarily used in the humanities with subjects including the arts, media, literature, and social science.
MLA Format Guidelines

· 1 inch margins
· Font size should be 12 pt.
· Choose a legible font such as Arial, Lucida, or Times New Roman.
· Leave only one space after periods or other punctuation marks.
· First line of paragraphs should be indented one half-inch from the left margin.
· Page number in upper right-hand corner.

GUIDE TO BASIC ELEMENTS
OF THEATRICAL PRODUCTION
Scenery * Acting * Lighting * Costumes * Spatial Relationships * Sound * Audience
By Dr. Barbara Clayton
Successful writing about theatrical performance relies on the writer's ability to identify, describe,
analyze, and evaluate specific elements of production. Usually shaped by a director, designers,
and actors in response to dramatic text, these production elements create the meanings
spectators take from theatrical performance. All of these elements interact, so the planning of a
production is usually a collaborative endeavor by the director, designers, and actors to create a
specific theatrical experience.
Intended to aid students in analyzing production elements in performance, the following
Guide briefly summarizes the primary production elements.
Scenery
Scenery provides the physical environment in which the dramatic action comes to life. Two
important functions of scenery are to create a visual world for the dramatic action and to provide
an interesting space for actors and director to use in creating physical action onstage. Scene
designers use style, color, mass, form, line, and texture within a defined space (usually a stage)
to create the world of the play. When analyzing scenery in a production, consider the following
topics:
● Environmental conditions: What does the scenery convey about time of year,
weather, geography, or other environmental conditions?
● Movement potential: How do actors enter and exit the stage? Are there staircases,
spiraling ramps, large open spaces, or other features that suggest specific movement
patterns?
● Style: Does the scenery create a realistic sense of time and place? Or is the space
symbolic or abstract? Does the scenery employ scenic conventions from a different
time or place? Japanese Kabuki staging,.

The Writing Assignment
Watch a movie that you want and write an essay evaluating the movie. State your judgment (thesis statement) clearly, and support it with a convincing argument based on standards of value that your readers will be likely to agree. Assuming that your readers do not know anything about the movie, you describe it and inform them why the movie is recommended to watch or graded low. Provide a brief plot summary so that the audience can get an idea of what the movie is about. You also discuss about the strengths and/or weaknesses of the movie. Do not simply retell the story of the movie. This is not a story-telling test.
It is important to have a thesis statement in the introduction, and a topic sentence and supporting details in each body paragraph. Introduction and conclusion should be connected in a way or another. Try to reduce errors as many as possible. If you have many errors, you will not get a satisfactory grade. Do not simply retell the story of the movie.
Basic features of evaluation
A Well-presented subject
A clear, well-balanced judgment
A convincing argument
Pointed comparison/compare and contrast similarities and differences with a movie that belongs to the same genre.
Organization
Present the background, a brief plot summary of the movie that offers the foundation of your evaluation.
Discuss the universal criteria you will analyze in the essay as you evaluate the film.
Judge the movie from your critical perspective(s).
Body paragraphs

Plot: How is the story told (chronological, flashback, or
flashforward
)? Why do you think the director structure the movie that way? How does the plot contribute to making the movie theme? Is the story interesting? Confusing? Moving? Believable? Just a copy of other movies that you’ve seen? What specific parts do you think problematic or efficient?
Genre: what type of movie is this? For example, action, adventure, horror, sci-fi, romance, mystery, comedy, tragedy, documentary? How is the movie evaluated, for example in the ranking? How does the movie attract the audience?
Pace: Is the movie slow-paced? Or action-packed? What parts were dull or exciting? How does the pace contribute to the story? Why do you think the director set that pace in the movie?
Acting: How is the acting done? Do they seem to be acting effectively? How much the acting contribute to the movie?
Music: What kind of music is used as a sound track? Is the music proper to the subject of the movie? How does the music create the mood of the scenes?

July 4th is a federal holiday, and I enjoy having the day off from work. I usually spend time with my family and hang out at the pool.
The Fourth of July is the day we adopted the Declaration of Independence, declaring our independence from the British in 1776. This had a huge impact on the entire course of history, leading to the Revolutionary War and the creation of the best country in the world, the United States of America.
The fireworks displays are my favorite part of the Fourth of July. I also march in the local parade.
Americans celebrate the 4th of July as the day they declared independence from colonial powers in 1776. Food is often cooked outside on grills, even though most houses have electric ovens inside. It is very hot outside in the middle of summer, and although many people have electronic cooling devices called air conditioners within their homes, much of the day is spent outside. At night, explosives are set off in community gatherings to celebrate this holiday. Remarkably, very few people are hurt during these displays.

One of my friends in high school got pregnant in her sophomore year. She and the father decided to keep the baby, got married and just celebrated their 10thanniversary. They both finished college and have good jobs now. It just goes to show that people can overcome teen pregnancy and become successful parents.
Although popular opinion sometimes indicates otherwise, according to a statistical analysis from the US Department of Health and Services (2014), teen pregnancy rates have been steadily declining for the past twenty years. In America, most teenagers are not yet fully independent from their parents, as teenagers in other cultures sometimes are, so they are not ready to become parents. Since this issue has a huge impact on young women and men affected by it, this may account for the disparity between popular opinion and.

. The Questioned Documents Unit (QDU) provides forensic support to federal, state and local law enforcement agencies by conducting examinations on evidence collected during their investigation as well as expert testimony concerning information contained in the reports. The Cryptanalysis and Racketeering Records Unit (CRRU) supports law enforcement by assisting in the analysis of cryptic communications such as codes found in letters, notes and diaries (FBI.gov).
After an individual is arrested, I will obtain fingerprints and photographs of the subject and complete a number of forms that are used to start a criminal file on the subject. I will use the Buccal Collection DNA test kit provided by the FBI on my subject. Once completed properly and submitted to the FBI, the kit will be sent to the Federal DNA Database Unit (FDDU). The FDDU will take the DNA test kit and upload it into NDIS creating a DNA profile for my subject. The subject’s DNA profile will be searched against unknown forensic profiles from crime scenes across the country. If my subject’s DNA matches with another crime from another state he can be charged for that crimes as well. In my opinion this is the most important service the FBI has. This allows all agencies to communicate and share information based off of DNA evidence. The flaw is that they need the criminal to be apprehended and processed in order for the DNA to be in the system.
In Knoxville Tennessee, FBI Emergency Response agents train how to excavate a body at the Body Farm. The agents pair up in teams with forensic anthropologists to learn how to best identify and excavate human remains to preserve the clues and pieces of evidence that decaying bodies may leave behind. The weeklong training gives agents step by step instructions while surprising the agents with twists and surprises during their excavations. This was very interesting to me because it helps put things into perspective. Teaches them to put the victim first, which will motivate them to slow down, be methodical with their techniques and be very thorough because it only can be done once.

Remarkably, very few people are hurt during these displays.

description of teen pregnancy in America? (Points : 1)
Since this issue has a huge impact on young women and men affected by it, this may account for the disparity between popular opinion and.

. The Questioned Documents Unit (QDU) provides forensic support .docxmadlynplamondon

As you develop the entire plan, gather information, and receive feedback from your professor (or others), you should revise and refine each part of the project. Think of your professor as your project evaluator and supervisor who will help guide you so that you produce an outstanding, well-developed evaluation plan for the stakeholders.
Write a 1000 words paper in which you:

2. Describe the program's history, primary purpose(s), and / or expected outcomes.
3. Explain three (3) reasons for selecting the program (e.g., program's value or lack of it, issues surrounding it, age, relevance, cost, impact on students, etc.).
4. Discuss three (3) advantages of evaluating the program at this time.
5. Discuss two (2) major constraints in conducting an evaluation on this program and a method of addressing them.
6. Use at least three (3) peer-reviewed academic resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and many Websites do not qualify as academic resources. Peer-reviewed academic resources refer to articles and scholarly journals that are reviewe.

-7 Three men are trapped in a cave with no hope of rescue and no foo.docxmadlynplamondon
-7 Three men are trapped in a cave with no hope of rescue and no food. They roll dice to determine who will be killed and eaten by the others so that some may survive. The two survivors are unexpectedly rescued 10 days later and tried for murder. Judge A finds them guilty, saying that the unjustifiable killing of another is against the homicide laws of State X. He bases his decision solely on statutory law and case precedents interpreting the law. To which school of legal thought does Judge A belong? Explain.
2-8 Basing his decision on the same set of facts as given in Problem 2-7, Judge B rules that the survivors are not guilty because they were cut off from all civilized life, and in such a situation, the laws of nature apply, not manmade laws. To which school of legal thought does Judge B belong? Explain.
2-9 Basing her decision on the same set of facts as given in Problem 2-7, Judge C rules that the two survivors are not guilty because, according to a scientific survey of the community by a professional polling organization, the public believes that the survivors’ actions were defensible. To which school of legal thought does Judge C belong? Explain.
2-10 Imagine you are a sitting federal judge, and this case comes before you. A woman (x) charges another woman (y) with rape. Both have been partners for a five-year period. Both presently live in different states within the United States. Who would you decide the case in favor of? Explain, using one of the schools of thought outlined in this chapter.
2-11 Madison and his adult son lived in a house owned by Madison. At the request of the son, Marshall painted the house. Madison did not authorize the work, but he knew that it was being done and raised no objection. However, Madison refused to pay Marshall, arguing that he had not contracted to have the house painted. Marshall asked his attorney if Madison was legally liable to pay him. The attorney told Marshall that, in their state, several appellate court opinions had established that when a homeowner allows work to be done on his home by a person who would ordinarily expect to be paid, a duty to pay exists. The attorney stated that, on the basis of these precedents, it was advisable for Marshall to bring a suit to collect the reasonable value of the work he had done. Explain what the attorney meant by precedent and why the fact that precedent existed was significant.
2-12 Smith was involved in litigation in California. She lost her case in the trial court. She appealed to the California appellate court, arguing that the trial court judge had incorrectly excluded certain evidence. To support her argument, she cited rulings by the Supreme Court of North Dakota and the Supreme Court of Ohio. Both the North Dakota and Ohio cases involved facts that were similar to those in Smith’s case. Does the California court have to follow the decisions from North Dakota and Ohio? Support your answer.

fixed.
· Analyze the benefit of recalculating the cost of pickle
production.
. How would you recalculate it?
. What would the result be?
. What is the benefit to the company of recalculating the cost?
· Analyze how financial accounting of production cost differs
from managerial accounting of production cost.
. Explain the difference between the two accounting methods.
. Identify the benefits and drawbacks of each method.
· Recommend a plan of action to management regarding Super
Deals’ offer.
Below is the cost report for a recent month. In this month,
Acme produced 9,000 cases and sold them at $20 per case,
which is Acme's normal selling price. Nine thousand cases are
well beyond Acme's break-even point, enabling Acme to record
a substantial profit at the nine-thousand-case level.

Performance Review of Dutchman by Amiri Baraka
Theatre must be engaging or it fails! The latest play produced
by
the TSU Theatre Program was Dutchman, written by Amiri
Baraka and directed by
Thomas Meloncon. I attended the production on Sunday,
February 11, 2018, in the
Ollington Smith Playhouse. The one-act play focuses on two
central characters, Lula
25. (played by Deserea Noriega) and Clay (played by Anthony
August), as they banter on a
New York subway. One central message in the play is that black
men and women must
fight for the cause (civil rights) or be destroyed by it. The point
that the playwright seems
to be making is that the Clays of the world—those who are
smug and think they are better
than poor, uneducated blacks—must be destroyed and who
better to do it than the whites
they emulate.
They play takes the audience back to the 1960s during a time of
racial tension in
America. The opening of the play shows Clay, a black man, on
the subway reading a
newspaper before Lula, a white woman, also gets on the train.
Lula immediately
proceeds to flirt with Clay. She has full control over the
conversation and eventually
begins questioning Clay’s self- image as an African American,
middle-class man,
seemingly telling him he is emulating white men. Clay finally
has enough of Lula’s
26. antics and flies into a tirade before slapping her. Eventually,
Lula orchestrates a coup;
she murders Clay and has help from passengers to throw him off
of the train. While the
ending is interesting, I would have made some changes had I
written this play. First, I
would provide more background on the character Lula. I would
make it clearer that she
represents white racism in America and that if challenged
racism will manifest itself even
in people that seem friendly. In addition to developing
characters more, I would change
the plot significantly. Instead of Lula stabbing Clay, I would
have the passengers become
become a lynch mob and assist Lula in lynching to underscore
the thousands of lynchings
that occurred between the 1870 and 1950s. Finally, I would
polish Lula’s diction and
allow her to use more snake imagery, since she enters eating an
apple, and we are to
assume she is the devil or is Eve come to tempt Adam/Clay.
27. The production included two fine actors. Lula, played by
Deserea Noriega, as a
representation of temptation and America, does a good job in
portraying the embodiment
of racism. While I did enjoy Anthony August’s performance in
the role of Clay, the script
did not allow Clay to accurately tell the story of a black man
who has self-image issues.
Though the plot seems not credible, Anthony August in the
leading role does an
outstanding job of portraying Baraka’s image of a black male
with identity issues and
Deserea Noriega in her portrayal of Lula is very skilled and
talented.
Not only was I under impressed by the script, I was also not
impressed by the
design. There was nothing special about the set to put the
audience in the subway with
the actors. The large amounts of graffiti were distracting and
unrealistic because it looked
forced. It was a one-act play so there were no scene changes,
but I saw no change in
28. lights to add emphasis or mood. For example, when Clay
delivers his monologue,
manipulation of the lights could have helped portray that shift
in control. I would suggest
that TSU invest in technical assistance in the production of its
plays.
Theatre should help us deal with our own personal issues by
showing how the
characters on stage handle challenges. Dutchman is a relevant
play because racism looms
large in societies around the world. The racism mirrored in this
play was familiar, and
one take away for me is that we must strive to be our authentic
selves and not try
to copy cultures, which is why Baraka kills off Clay. Baraka is
telling his audience to
take pride in your own culture. On a final note, the show as a
whole was lackluster and I
had a difficult time remaining engaged. On a scale of one to
five, with one being the
lowest, I would give the play a score of two. Unfortunately, I
would not recommend this
29. play for the simple fact that it was not memorable.
