In this webinar, Prof Hendrik Drachsler will reflect on the process of applying learning analytics solutions within higher education settings, its implications, and the critical lessons learned in the Trusted Learning Research Program. The talk will focus on the experience of edutec.science research collective consisting of researchers from the Netherlands and Germany that contribute to the Trusted Learning Analytics (TLA) research program. The TLA program aims to provide actionable and supportive feedback to students and stands in the tradition of human-centered learning analytics concepts. Thus, the TLA program aims to contribute to unfolding the full potential of each learner. It, therefore, applies sensor technology to support psychomotor as well as web technology to support meta-cognitive and collaborative learning skills with high-informative feedback methods. Prof. Drachsler applies validated measurement instruments from the field of psychometric and investigates to what extent Learning Analytics interventions can reproduce the findings of these instruments. During this webinar, Prof Drachsler will discuss the lessons learned from implementing TLA systems. He will touch on TLA prerequisites like ethics, privacy, and data protection, as well as high informative feedback for psychomotor, collaborative, and meta-cognitive competencies and the ongoing research towards a repository, methods, tools and skills that facilitate the uptake of TLA in Germany and the Netherlands.

Preliminary PhD Defence - Student-facing Dashboards
Sven Charleer developed learning dashboards in 7 different designs across 3 learning settings - classrooms, study advice sessions, and general student use - involving over 100 students, 20 instructors, and 17 study advisers. The dashboards aimed to provide visualizations of learning analytics data to support students, instructors, and advisers. Evaluations of the dashboards led to 19 publications and ongoing interest from universities to deploy the dashboards more widely.
Faceted Search on Coordinated Tablets and Tabletop: a Comparison

Large interactive displays and surfaces are useful modalities for visualizing big multi-dimensional data sets. They can offer simultaneous views on different facets of the data which lead to an efficient and effective environment for data exploration and analysis. While every data analyst and enthusiast can benefit from these advantages, large interactive systems are not yet available to everyone. Meanwhile, tablets have become ubiquitous and relatively cheap. Combining multiple tablets to replicate a single, large display has therefore become an affordable option. This paper compares the difference in search performance and user perception of a faceted search system for Cultural Heritage data on a single large interactive tabletop with a system composed of multiple coordinated tablet devices. We conclude that, while users generally prefer the tabletop system, there is no negative impact on search performance using tablets. This makes coordinated tablets a viable and portable solution in the absence of interactive tabletops.

Abstract:
Filtering data on a visualization can be a challenge when multiple people work on a shared visualization, for instance on an interactive tabletop. Visualizations can present data that satisfy the union of all user filters, or data lenses can provide individual views on parts of the data. To support per-user filters simultaneously across a shared visualization, we explore different glyph approaches that complement data points with per-user filter status information. Adding physical positions of users around the tabletop as an extra attribute to the glyph, we attempt to lower the cognitive load required to map filter statuses to corresponding participants. This work presents the design choices, briefly covers technical development, reports on the evaluation results and points out possibilities for future work.

zkStudyClub - LatticeFold: A Lattice-based Folding Scheme and its Application...
Folding is a recent technique for building efficient recursive SNARKs. Several elegant folding protocols have been proposed, such as Nova, Supernova, Hypernova, Protostar, and others. However, all of them rely on an additively homomorphic commitment scheme based on discrete log, and are therefore not post-quantum secure. In this work we present LatticeFold, the first lattice-based folding protocol based on the Module SIS problem. This folding protocol naturally leads to an efficient recursive lattice-based SNARK and an efficient PCD scheme. LatticeFold supports folding low-degree relations, such as R1CS, as well as high-degree relations, such as CCS. The key challenge is to construct a secure folding protocol that works with the Ajtai commitment scheme. The difficulty, is ensuring that extracted witnesses are low norm through many rounds of folding. We present a novel technique using the sumcheck protocol to ensure that extracted witnesses are always low norm no matter how many rounds of folding are used. Our evaluation of the final proof system suggests that it is as performant as Hypernova, while providing post-quantum security.
