World War II left most of Europe in shambles. Millions were homeless because the war destroyed thousands of homes, businesses, and public buildings. The European economy was similarly devastated, with much of the industrial infrastructure destroyed or heavily damaged. Great Britain was heavily in debt to the United States and was forced to borrow even more to begin reconstruction. The Soviet Union had suffered severe population losses, including nearly 8.7 million military deaths and 19 million noncombat deaths from starvation, disease, and German prison camps and mass shootings. The USSR also experienced a significant reduction in industrial and food production in the immediate postwar period.
Unable to quickly rebuild, European business elites, conservatives, and even liberals lost ground to Socialists and Communists, who supported the nationalization of banks, manufacturing, and utilities. Smaller European nations such as Greece and Italy also saw major advances by their own homegrown Communist parties. At the war’s end, the United States, with its political stability and rapid economic growth, stood as the lone strong nation among the struggling former combatants. Still, some feared that a Communist upsurge could shake the United States and challenge the nation’s traditions of free enterprise and capitalism.
In this uncertain environment, despite its huge losses, the Soviet Union was the only other world power that had the ideological confidence and military might to join the United States in shaping the new world order. Although the United States and the USSR depended on one another for victory in the war, the alliance between them was tenuous. The Soviets’ Communist-based ideology, culture, and economic system, as well as the dictatorial control of Soviet leader Joseph Stalin, stood in stark contrast to American democratic values and capitalism. Although some hoped that the alliance between the two nations would last beyond the war, the relationship quickly began to unravel once the common threat of German aggression was removed.
The United States and the Soviet Union became locked in a protracted struggle in which their clash of ideas and values was as central as their military and diplomatic rivalry. Beginning in the immediate postwar era, this so-called Cold War was as integral to the restructuring of the new world order as was the physical rebuilding of war-torn Europe and Japan.

Unit Lesson
Twenty years after the end of World War I, Europe and the world were again
engulfed in total war. The immediate cause was Hitler’s desire for a German
empire in Eastern Europe, but there were other, longer-term factors that explain
the origins of the war.
The origins of the Second World War are tied to the settlements of the first. The
treaties signed after 1918 created a fragile peace for three reasons. First,
redrawing the map of central and Eastern Europe did not fulfill the nationalist
ambitions of all groups. Second, the League of Nations was too weak to be the
basis of a new international order. Third, the peace settlements created new
resentments among both the winners and the losers.
The Great Depression increased international instability as the various countries
used tariff barriers to protect their economies, and some political leaders saw
territorial expansion as a solution to their economic problems. In the face of the
democracies’ passivity, Hitler made his first moves, withdrawing Germany from
the League of Nations in 1933 and openly violating the terms of the Treaty of
Versailles in 1935 by rearming Germany. In 1936, Hitler signed an alliance with
Italy, creating the Rome-Berlin Axis. Hitler again violated the Treaty of Versailles
in 1936 by sending troops into the Rhineland and again in 1938 by annexing
Austria to Germany, in a move called the Anschluss. In neither case did France
or Britain act against Germany.
Early German military successes were the result of a new technology of modern
offensive warfare that utilized a mobile, mechanized offensive force. Hitler’s plan

The Soviets’ Communist-based ideology, culture, and economic system, as well as the dictatorial control of Soviet leader Joseph Stalin, stood in stark contrast to American democratic values and capitalism. Although some hoped that the alliance between the two nations would last beyond the war, the relationship quickly began to unravel once the common threat of German aggression was removed.
The United States and the Soviet Union became locked in a protracted struggle in which their clash of ideas and values was as central as their military and diplomatic rivalry. Beginning in the immediate postwar era, this so-called Cold War was as integral to the restructuring of the new world order as was the physical rebuilding of war-torn Europe and Japan.

Unit Lesson
Twenty years after the end of World War I, Europe and the world were again
engulfed in total war. The immediate cause was Hitler’s desire for a German
empire in Eastern Europe, but there were other, longer-term factors that explain
the origins of the war.
The origins of the Second World War are tied to the settlements of the first. The
treaties signed after 1918 created a fragile peace for three reasons. First,
redrawing the map of central and Eastern Europe did not fulfill the nationalist
ambitions of all groups. Second, the League of Nations was too weak to be the
basis of a new international order. Third, the peace settlements created new
resentments among both the winners and the losers.
The Great Depression increased international instability as the various countries
used tariff barriers to protect their economies, and some political leaders saw
territorial expansion as a solution to their economic problems. In the face of the
democracies’ passivity, Hitler made his first moves, withdrawing Germany from
the League of Nations in 1933 and openly violating the terms of the Treaty of
Versailles in 1935 by rearming Germany. In 1936, Hitler signed an alliance with
Italy, creating the Rome-Berlin Axis. Hitler again violated the Treaty of Versailles
in 1936 by sending troops into the Rhineland and again in 1938 by annexing
Austria to Germany, in a move called the Anschluss. In neither case did France
or Britain act against Germany.
Early German military successes were the result of a new technology of modern
offensive warfare that utilized a mobile, mechanized offensive force. Hitler’s plan

I have asked this question 3 times and no one has done what I have requested. I don\'t want a
different solution to my problem. It doesn\'t take a lot of work to search chegg and then copy and
paste an answer from another question. I REPEAT CAN YOU LOCATE WHY MY CODE

Objective:
Write a game where you are an X trying to get an ice cream cone in a mine field
Before the game starts, a field of mines are created.
The board has to be first initialized
There mines occupy a tenth of the board (IE (BoardSize x BoardSize)/10 = the number of mines)
The mines are randomly placed on the board. If a space which is already occupied (either by the
player, the ice cream cone, or another mine) is selected then another space must be selected until
an empty space is found.
The player is placed at 0,0
The ice cream cone is placed at a random location on the board
At each turn, the player chooses to move in the X or Y direction by entering either -1, 0, or 1,
where
-1 is going one space in the negative direction
1 is going one space in the positive direction (remember positive for Y is down)
0 is staying still
9 quits the game
Anything other than these values should prompt the player that they have inputted an invalid
value and then not move in that direction (IE 0).
Before each turn the board is displayed indicating where the player (X) and the goal (^) are
located. Unoccupied spaces and mines are denoted by and underscore (_). Remember mines need
to be hidden so they are also underscores (_). The board is maximum 10 spaces long and wide.
Once the player reaches the ice cream cone the player wins
If the player lands on a space with a mine they are killed and the game is over
After the game is over, the player should be prompted whether or not they want to play again.

received their loan money from the bank. The Naffzigers took pos- session of Festival Foods the
next day and operated Festival Foods for the remainder of the 2005 season. The insurance and
titles to the truck and trailer re- mained in Mr. Jannusch’s name because he had not yet received
the purchase price from the Naffzigers. Naffziger acknowledged that an oral agreement to
purchase Festival Foods for $150,000 existed but stated that she could not recall specifically
making an oral agreement on any particular date. The parties agreed that the Naffzigers would
run Festival Foods as they pursued buying the business. The Naffzigers took possession of
Festival Foods, receiving the in- come from the business, purchasing inventory, re- placing
equipment, paying taxes on the business, and paying employees. The income from Festival
Foods was lower than the Naffzigers expected, and two days after the business season ended,
they returned Festival Foods to the storage facility where Mr. Jannusch had stored it in the past.
The Jannuschs brought an action for breach of an oral contract against the Naffzigers. The
Naffzigers claimed that the deal was not suffi- ciently definite to be enforceable. Are they
correct?

In this case the Jannuschs and the Naffzigers entered into an oral agreement, whereby the festival
food business owned by the Jannuschs will be purchased by the Naffzigers for $150,000. This
oral agreement was reasonable, and made in good faith by both the parties. The verbal agreement
involved an offer (by the Naffzigers) and an acceptance (by the Jannuschs). There was mutual
consideration present in the case as well - the Naffzigers had paid a downpayment of $10,000,
took possession of the Festival Foods and operated it for what was left for the 2005 season.
So, the Naffzigers are not correct when they say that the deal was not sufficiently definite to be
enforceable. This agreement is enforceable..
