This document describes several types of sedimentary rocks: sandstone is made of quartz and feldspar grains; limestone forms from minerals in evaporated seas; shale compacts clay particles; conglomerate contains cemented sand and pebbles; and gypsum forms from the mineral sulfate in evaporated seas. Sedimentary rock in general results from the compaction and layering of sediment over time.
