3. Well...
➔ Diversity means that there is a variety of things.
➔ Think of our group. We have a variety of different
backgrounds that are with us today. We have people of
different color, different backgrounds, different religions
and you are you.
➔ You is different, you is great, you is amazing.
5. Stereotyping
➔ Can anyone define stereotyping?
➔ Stereotyping is when a person is labels an object, item
or type of thing that they see from the outside and may
not know much about what they are labeling.
6. Activity 1
Get into two equal groups. Each paper has the same question, “Who am I?”
For this activity, you all will answer this questions in words that describes you in
positive ways, such as sister, friend, brother, son, daughter, student, etc…
We will have 5-10 minutes to complete and discuss this this activity.
7. Activity 2
This activity will focus on stereotyping. We have all experienced stereotyping at
one point in our lives.
For this activity, break off into two or three groups. Each group will draw a strip
of paper that has a stereotype topic that the group will look more into. As a
group, you will need to discuss about how people may stereotype these topics.
After you complete that portion, you will be discussing how each topic really is.
8. Activity 3
This one an individual activity. Each of you will get a piece of construction
paper and draw an outline of a person. With that outline, you will create a
person that you would like to see yourself become. You can add a face, clothes
and things that you would like to accomplish in the future. All of the things must
be positive. You can also add things (family, siblings and current things) that
make you who you are.
