2. Aranhas Dolichothele
The South American Dry Diagonal (DD) is an area of open
formations extending from northeastern Brazil to northwestern
Argentina, including three biomes, Caatinga, Cerrado and
Chaco. It originated in late Miocene and there are evidences of a
complex and dynamic biogeographical history in each of its
biomes. Several examples of endemic organisms shared among
these biomes also suggest that their evolutionary histories were
not independent.
Our goals are to investigate how events that occurred along
the Tertiary and/or Quaternary influenced species diversification
in the DD with a phylogenetic study of Dolichothele species.
Species of his genus occurs in Cerrado and Caatinga and in the
adjacent rain forests, Atlantic and Amazonia. Our hypothesis was
that the rain forest branches were basal and more recent ones
originated with the DD formation.
We generated a time-calibrated phylogeny and estimated
species diversification rates. The analyzes corroborate the
monophyly of the genus. The estimated origins of the genus are
~ 9ma, correlated with the DD formation. Deeper branches
occurred in the Tertiary and we detected a Quaternary event of
speciation associated with the establishment in the Atlantic Rain
Forest.
