contest as part of the

solo and duet singing
contests. Persistently,
the crowd cheered for
their representative.
Ms. Catlene Laime
Pusing, from BSE
English IV got the 2nd
place in Pop Solo and
Duet categories
“ I just wished to deliv-
er the songs success-
fully and see the audi-
ence enjoying the song
because in the end,
singing is not just about
winning, it’s about
being able to let the
listeners feel the
emotion of the song and
I just did, on the
awarding day, I hoped
for at least third place,
but I got more than
what I expected and
that was a great
memory for me to re-
member,” said Catlene.
The panel of judges in
the competition were:
Ms. Hanah Jelli Barreto,
Ms. Mary Jayneevelle
Barrera and Mr. Juniel
Orquesta.
"Singing is not always
about showing people
that you have the skill,
singing is a passion to
deliver a song and make
the listeners feel it and
when delivering such
songs, you have to put
your feet on the shoe of
the song writer for you
to show the emotion of
the song that will
capture the hearts of
your audience”.
The aim of the
competition is not just
to showcase the singing
ability of the partici-
pants but to heighten
their confidence in
performing before a

Pre-Service Teaching for the New Agents of Change
By: Jessa Mae A. Jaime, BSE – English IV-B
Pre-service teaching is
a mandatory practice in
the Philippines that
requires all fourth year
students to have their
pre-service teaching.
More or less, it takes
360 hours to do the On-
the-Job Training.
Definitely, having a
pre service teaching is
not so easy. It takes
months for the student
teachers to deal with
many aspects in the real
teaching world. First,
they have to adapt to
the environ-
ment of their cooper-
ating school. Second-
ly, they need to have
adjustments to cope up
with all situations in-
side the school that
they are going to deal
with. Third, they must
keep themselves
physically healthy and
have strong determina-
tion and patience to
their students. Lastly,
they must be emotion-
ally sensitive to their
students, cooperating
teachers, principals and
as well as the faculty
members and staff of
the school.
However, pre-service
teaching has a lot of
lessons and really
strengthen the
compassion of every
student teacher. It
helps them to be a
realistic and efficient
teachers in the near
future; to step forward
out of their comfort
zones. It can light up
their minds to be wide-
ly open with many
things . Foremost, it will
make them a resil-
ient agent of change in
the meaningful teach-
ing world.
In general, pre-
service teaching is very
important for the nov-
ice teachers because it
is not just about how
the student teachers
prepare themselves but
a helpful guide and path
towards their teaching
journey.
What did you feel during the first week of your student teaching?
“I can’t still imagine myself standing in front of students, and I’m not confident enough to share
what I know but I’m satisfied that despite the struggles, I still handle myself and acted as a real
teacher.” -Micole P. Montealegre, BSE—English IV-B
How does your major help you become a proficient student teacher in English?
“Because of the major subjects in English. That honed me to develop my skills in reading and
writing the L2. I was equipped with the ideas and knowledge that made me become a proficient
student teacher in English.” - Glaiza B. Buguina, BSE—English IV-B
Did you encounter difficulties among students in using English language as a medium?
“Yes, maybe because they are not very adept in using it, and mostly their problems were the
grammar and the misuse of words.” - Carla Luiza C. Desuyo, BSE—English IV-B
“Yes, I encountered difficulties with my students in terms of using English Language as a medium
of interaction because every time I ask them, even in just a simple sentence they did not
understand. So for me, being an English major student is not just about teaching how to write and
speak English but also a translator of English into Filipino language.”

Ceaselessly running in circles
In the process of gradient
Showered by the
Follicles of Marigold
So pure, so virulent
Been repairing all the scrapes
That grows itself neglecting sunshine
A kind of photosynthesis
Nourished against the outline
Trapped inside the unwonted yard
Garden of dead leaves all around
Whoosh, brisk wind blows so hard
Where beauty cannot be found
Butterfly appeared out of nowhere
Rested on the blue Marigold’s petal
As if it’s a magic and pixie dusts fell
That all of a sudden broke the spell.
The dull nursery turned dashing
All this time that Marigold was hallucinating
Only to know it was actually a rose
Thanks to the butterfly that ended that woes.
FLYING WITHOUT WINGS
By: Jessa Mae A. Jaime
BSE English IV-B
She’s a bird of many dreams
A strong eyes that easily scream
A carabao of hard works and eager
She’s also brave as a tiger
She forgives before she prays
She offers her heart before she slays
She just want to live before she dies
And lift up herself up to the sky
She’s indeed a dreamer
She’s definitely a pursuer
She’s a strong motivator
And she’s herself a creator
A product of poverty, yes she is
But she never gives up all of these
Instead she lets herself dream for many
things
And even make herself fly without
those wings.
Be brave. Huwag kang matakot lumaban.
Ipakita mo sa lahat na kaya mo, laban lang.
Be patient. Huwag kang magsawa hangga’t
kaya mo. Tandaan mong lahat nang pag-
titiyaga ay may kaakibat na tagumpay.
Be approachable. I entertain mo sila. Sila na
binibigyan ka ng oras at panahon. Ngunit hu-
wag kang masyadong mag enjoy dahil lahat ng
dumadating ay umaalis din.
Don’t guess, always check first. Huwag kang
manaya na alam mo lahat. Dahil minsan, yung
mga bagay na akala natin na tama ay mali
pala kaya’t alamin mo muna bago ka mag
simula.
Be true to yourself. Huwag kang magpanggap
na alam mo lahat. Tumanggap ka ng opinion
ng iba kung nahihirapan ka. Maging totoo ka
lang at tiyak magiging masaya ka.

Buguina, BSE—English IV-B Did you encounter difficulties among students in using English language as a medium? “Yes, maybe because they are not very adept in using it, and mostly their problems were the grammar and the misuse of words.” - Carla Luiza C. Desuyo, BSE—English IV-B “Yes, I encountered difficulties with my students in terms of using English Language as a medium of interaction because every time I ask them, even in just a simple sentence they did not understand. So for me, being an English major student is not just about teaching how to write and speak English but also a translator of English into Filipino language.” - Richelle G. Clete, BSE—English IV-B

DIVERGENT Page 6 Enchantment By: CatleneLaime R. Pusing BSE Englsih IV-B Ceaselessly running in circles In the process of gradient Showered by the Follicles of Marigold So pure, so virulent Been repairing all the scrapes That grows itself neglecting sunshine A kind of photosynthesis Nourished against the outline Trapped inside the unwonted yard Garden of dead leaves all around Whoosh, brisk wind blows so hard Where beauty cannot be found Butterfly appeared out of nowhere Rested on the blue Marigold’s petal As if it’s a magic and pixie dusts fell That all of a sudden broke the spell. The dull nursery turned dashing All this time that Marigold was hallucinating Only to know it was actually a rose Thanks to the butterfly that ended that woes. FLYING WITHOUT WINGS By: Jessa Mae A. Jaime BSE English IV-B She’s a bird of many dreams A strong eyes that easily scream A carabao of hard works and eager She’s also brave as a tiger She forgives before she prays She offers her heart before she slays She just want to live before she dies And lift up herself up to the sky She’s indeed a dreamer She’s definitely a pursuer She’s a strong motivator And she’s herself a creator A product of poverty, yes she is But she never gives up all of these Instead she lets herself dream for many things And even make herself fly without those wings. Be brave. Huwag kang matakot lumaban. Ipakita mo sa lahat na kaya mo, laban lang. Be patient. Huwag kang magsawa hangga’t kaya mo. Tandaan mong lahat nang pag- titiyaga ay may kaakibat na tagumpay. Be approachable. I entertain mo sila. Sila na binibigyan ka ng oras at panahon. Ngunit hu- wag kang masyadong mag enjoy dahil lahat ng dumadating ay umaalis din. Don’t guess, always check first. Huwag kang manaya na alam mo lahat. Dahil minsan, yung mga bagay na akala natin na tama ay mali pala kaya’t alamin mo muna bago ka mag simula. Be true to yourself. Huwag kang magpanggap na alam mo lahat. Tumanggap ka ng opinion ng iba kung nahihirapan ka. Maging totoo ka lang at tiyak magiging masaya ka.
