Distribution and Our Fim
Distribution
“Film distribution is the process of making a movie available for viewing by an audience. ... For
commercial projects, film distribution is usually accompanied by film promotion. When a film is initially
produced, a feature film is often shown to audiences in a movie theater.”
Film distributors try to make a film is internationally well know and to get as many people to what it is
possible. One a film is filmed, edited and complete, a distributor will begin to work on its release; they will
secure screening as start a buzz around the film. Every film has a different plan as to how they get their
film to their target audience. Some examples of film distributors are; 20th Century Fox, Entertainment One
UK, Lionsgate and Studiocanal.
Distributor Interests in our Film
Films such as Gone Girl, Before I Go To Sleep and Girl On The Train are similar
films to ours as they are psychological thriller films. Gone Girl was distributed by
many different companies for screenings around the world but their main
distributor was 20th Century Fox. Before I Go To Sleep was distributed by 20th
Century Fox and Clarius Entertainment. Girl On The Train was distributed by
Universal Pictures. All of these films were distributed by major distributing
companies and so we felt that because our film had the same style to it as these
ones, that our film too could be distributed by a major company.
Audience Appeal
I think our film would be appeal to a wide audience as it is not significant to one
domain or social category so can be watched anywhere by various different
people in a large audience. It can be watched by people in other countries such as
America, not just the UK. We would want to create a buzz around the release of
our film as the film itself holds a buzz of fear and tension for both the characters
and the audience. We would release small teaser trailers leading up to a main
trailer to pull the audience’s in and build their suspicions. As our film has a wide
audience we would also aim to market in various ways to attract each
demographic; through social media, tv, radio and more.
