Distance education is a formalized teaching and learning system designed to be carried out remotely using electronic communication. It has advantages like being less expensive, not constrained by geography, and offering flexible self-paced learning. However, it also lacks social interaction, may not be suitable for all learners, requires adapting to new technologies, and not all required courses may be offered online. Evaluation in distance education aims to assess the worth and merits of the program and can take traditional empirical approaches or more qualitative naturalistic techniques. It focuses on measuring different aspects like student outcomes, achievement of program goals, and organizational impacts.

Education

meanings within education.
Most common purpose is to grade and
classify students, to sort out the
successes from the failures

7. 2 Types of Evaluation
Approach
First one is the
"traditional", "positivist-empiricist"
or "agricultural-botany" approach to
evaluation.
This characterizes the attempt to apply
the rules and procedures of the physical
sciences to the evaluation area.

evaluation that incorporates qualitative
and naturalistic techniques forthe
evaluation of distance education.
