DESIGN PRODUCTION AND
UTILIZATION OF INSTRUCTIONAL
MEDIA
Presented by Lanre Ariyibi
Behavioral Objective
At the end of this lesson, students would be able
to:
• Plan instructional graphics for display boards’
use.
• Construct appropriate graphics and letters for
display boards.
• Place the materials on the display boards.
• Teach with the display board.
Previous Knowledge
Students have been able to:
• Construct Letterings: Grid, Freehand and
Stencil Lettering
• Produce instructional charts
Materials Required
• Colouring materials: Water colour or Permanent
Marker or Crayon, etc.
• Writing or drawing materials: Pencil, biro, felt pen,
erase, sharpener etc.
• Cut out pictures from Newspapers or Magazines. It
is preferable that the student draw the content
themselves.
• Cardboard. (3-5 pieces)
Materials Required contd.
• Joining materials ;- e.g. Water gum,
Thumbtacks or pins,
• Cutting Materials e.g. Razor blade,
scissors, Knife edge
• A display board. (This will be made
available by the instructor)
Definition of Display Boards
• Multi-purpose boards used to display
information, visual resources, sequence
of learning materials, notices, etc.
• An educational tool seen as a visual
method of teaching and getting learners
motivated.
Types of Display Boards
• Smart Board • Magnetic Board
Types of Display Boards contd.
• Bulletin Board • Flannel/Felt Board
Important Uses of Display Board
Display Boards help students to:
• Visualize Abstract Concepts
• Use colours to bring out features.
• Summarize lessons with images
• Develop observation skills and visual
literacy
Preparing Materials for display on
Display Boards.
• Decide Content/topic to teach for
display.
• caption or title should be brief, colourful
and straight to the point.
• Decide the images/pictures to put,
• size of the board available,
• background of the board.
Step 1: Plan what to display
Preparing Materials contd.
Step 2: Identify or draw and paint the images you
want to display.
Preparing Materials contd.
Step 3: Construct and Paint the Letters
Step 4: Cut out the Images and Letterings separate
from each other.
Preparing Materials contd.
Preparing Materials contd.
Step 5: Increase the texture of the graphics
Place cut out
materials and
lettering on another
cardboard or paper
that has different
colour from the cut
out image/lettering
and the display board
to be used.
Preparing Materials contd.
Step 6: Set up the images and letterings on the Display Board
- Take a close Picture of your display
- Post it to the Whatsapp Group
- Include details like: Course-Group number-name of group
members involved in the production e.g.
Biology- Group 11- ARIYIBI, AKINTOLURE,ADEWUSI, FASINRO,OLADEJO.
Using the Display Board
• Avoid obstructing the
view of the learners
• Take each points
• Involve the learners
Principles of Display: A Guide
• Simplicity,
• Unity,
• Emphasis and
• Balance
• In your subject area, identify a topic to
teach your students
• Prepare materials for display on a
Bulletin or felt Board for the chosen topic
• Place the materials on the Board to be
made available for you in the class
• Teach the content using the images
placed on the board.
CLASSWORK: This task is to be completed as a
Group work (Minimum of 5 students
per group)
- Take a close Picture of your display
- Post it to the Whatsapp Group
- Include details like: Course-Group
number-name of group members
involved in the production ( As seen
on Slide 16)
