Executive Summary Organizational Profile L.L. Bean Inc. was established in 1912 by Leon
Leonwood Bean. He obtained a list of nonresident hunters to establish his first client list for his
mail order business. His golden rule for the company is Sell good merchandise at a reasonable
profit, treat your customers like humans beings, and they ll always come back for more. In
1967 when L.L Bean died, his mail order business had grown to $4.75 Million in annual sales,
the catalog was distributed to 600,000 customers, and employed 200 people. Since his grandson

Critical Issue 3 What information should Scott Sklar have available to help him arrive at a
demand forecast for a particular style of men s shirt that is a new catalog item? Alternative 1
Mr. Sklar will need all the rankings of the various shirts for the particular book this new shirt will
be included in. There will need to be a meeting held to discuss where they believe this new item
will fall within the other assigned shirt rankings while eliminating preconceived notions and
rules of thumb. If this new product is similar to another shirt style then careful consideration
needs to be taken to account for any steal in demand that this new shirt will have on any other
lines L.L. Bean currently offers. Alternative 2 If this new shirt is believed to be a unique item
and will have its own demand absent from the other products offered then a more separate
forecast of sales is needed. The next conceivable step would be to develop a unit sales projection
by forecasting unit sales per month. The use of the most recent past data available from a new
catalogue item will be the most beneficial in helping this statistical analysis in forecasting sales.

Space Age Furniture Company makes tables and cabinets used to house microwave ovens and
portable televisions. Operations Officer, Coral Snodgrass, is currently dealing with a problem in
the companies manufacturing. Operations managers are responsible for generating value in the
forms of goods and services. Their goal is to simultaneously balance supply and demand both
financially and through marketing. Operations managers are imperative to run a business

Our book defines JIT as, ... a philosophy of operation that seeks to maximize efficiency and
eliminate waste in any form ( Vonderembse 2013, Chapt 11.1). Perhaps one of the greatest
functions of JIT is that it uncovers the problems in production by keeping minimal items available.
With no pools of inventory the goal of JIT it to allow a smooth flow of production without any
kinks or waste. Since using the JIT system Space Age has uncovered a problem with its key
worker ED putting in to many hours due to a glitch in the production of part 3079.
In addition to the manufacturing problem Space Age is facing they are also in a dilemma regarding
the reduction of overtime costs and inventory costs. If the over time costs tend to lessen the
inventory costs, overtime costs would be higher and the employee would be unhappy. If inventory
costs reduce overtime costs then inventory costs would be higher than previous. Managers of Space
Age are in need of suggestions for tracking the job status and location during production. The
optimum mode of production needs to be identified and, some changes are required for creating
value for the company along with the customer. The master production schedule was given from

The Three Stages Of Prehistory
Prehistory literally means before history , from the Latin word for before, præ, and Greek for
history О№ПѓП„ОїПЃОЇО±. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prehistory). Prehistory is a term that
can refer to the vast span of time since the beginning of the universe, but it is more often that it

Public Rituals In Renaissance Florence Essay
Public ritual in Renaissance Florence involved many actors and took many forms. They could be
civic rituals performed by the citizens of the city, or popular rituals where anyone could participate.
They could also originate in the private sphere and were made available to the public. Public rituals
had various purposes, but most importantly they reproduced hierarchies which conditioned the
organisation of power within the Florentine polity, and ensured civil peace and harmony. This was
particularly important in Renaissance Florenceas no one monarch ruled the city, and therefore no
singular figure embodying authority and morality could be looked up to by the people. Keeping
law and order was the ruling class major concern, and public rituals... Show more content on

The portrait of Giuliano de Medici by Raphael, a tempera and oil on canvas, can be dated back to
around 1515 (Fig. 2). The portrait includes a background depiction of Florence, which is
revealed behind a green curtain. As part of a marriage arrangement with Philiberte of Savoy, it
is not surprising that Florence would be depicted as an asset of Giuliano s. However, the picture
was painted shortly after the carnival of 1513, and it highlights the sort of relationship that the
Medici family wanted to re establish with the city and its people, using public rituals to achieve
this. Giuliano s gaze is directed to the part of the curtain revealing the city, thus asserting his status
as legimate ruler, watching over the people of Florence. This painting and the carnival of 1513
convey similar messages. When Girolamo Macchietti executed a portrait of Lorenzo the
Magnificent, he used a similar device (Fig. 3). Lorenzo stands tall with Florence in the background,
and he looks forward benevolently. What the Medicis attempted to achieve with public rituals, they
successfully managed to reflect in their portraiture. With their backs turned to the city, they would
have appeared to contemporaries as larger than life leaders protecting Florence s interests and
history. The link between the two portraits is interesting because the carnival of 1513 was a clear
attempt at

Corruption Of The Church In The Canterbury Tales
The powerful grow more powerful through the actions of the people. Geoffrey Chaucer opposes the
all powerful 14th century Catholic church in The Canterbury Tales. His displeasure resulted in the
actions and practices of church officials. In The Canterbury Tales, individuals representing clergy
members extort money, and sin for the gain of wealth within the church. Chaucer uses
characterizations and language in The Canterbury Talesto express his displeasure and opposition
with the 14th century Catholic church s practices. In The Canterbury Tales, Chaucer expresses a
distaste with Catholic ideals and hypocrisy during the 14th century. His distaste shows in the
characterizations of the pilgrims that represent the clergy. Each member of the clergy has a
characteristic that represents their corruption. In Ideas And Institutions In European History
800 1715 by Mendenhall, an idea forms about the church and its corrupt ways. Each
representative of the church embraces the idea of one true church and puts emphasis on the
aforementioned, which allows the clergy to place a monopoly on salvation (Mendenhall, 25).
The idea of gaining salvation from only one church or religion increases the ability of that
church to extort money in exchange for forgiveness and salvation. The money then goes into the
pockets of the clergy. In The Canterbury Tales, Chaucer expresses the overwhelming wealth of
the church through characterization of the Monk. Traditionally, Monks vow to a life of poverty,
chastity, and obedience as outlined in the Catholic Encyclopedia (1913). However, the Monk as
described in The Canterbury Tales lives a life of nonpareil was he, who rode, as steward of his
monastery, the country round; a lover of good sport, a manly man fit to be an abbot (Chaucer, 7).
The Monk lives an uncharacteristically comfortable life that allows him time to hunt and enjoy
lavish food and clothes. His lifestyle contradicts the traditional values of a Monk and therefore,
symbolizes the church and their frivolous nature. Furthermore, The Monk is described as fit to be
an abbot or head Monk, however, this contradicts the Monk s lack of consideration for his vows to
a life of poverty and obedience considering his opposition to the

Pablo Picasso Guernica Essay
Guernica is another perfect example of Picasso exhibiting history in his work. The mural sized
oil painting on canvas was painted by Pablo Picasso in 1937. It is painted in a palette of grey,
black and white and is regarded by many as modern art s most powerful antiwar statement . The
mural exhibits suffering people and animals wrenched by violence and chaos. A gored horse, a bull
and flames are prominent features of the artwork. Guernicadisplays the tragedies of war and the
suffering it imposes on individuals, specifically innocent civilians. The lack of colour intensifies
the chaos and the tragedy. Guernica is a town in the province of Biscay in Basque Country. On
Monday 26th April 1937, warplanes of the German Condor Legion bombed Guernica for two
hours. At the time. Picasso was working on a mural for the Paris Exhibition that was to be held in
the summer of 1937. On May 1st, news of the bombing of Guernicareached Paris. Picasso was

Key figures such as the bull, the agonized horse and a woman with outstretched arms were
perfected in sketch after sketch before being transferred onto the canvas. A painting is not thought
out and settled in advance, Picasso said. While it is being done, it changes as one s thoughts
change. And when it is finished, it goes on changing, according to the state of mind of whoever is
looking at it. The bull and the horse are both important characters in Spanish culture. The
rampaging bull is thought to represent the onslaught of Fascism. Picasso said the bull meant
brutality and darkness while the horse represented the people of Guernica. The painting was at first
overwhelmingly criticised as Cubism was still a fairly new concept at this time. Picasso continued
producing work and was eventually a world renowned artist. The most influential artist of the
twentieth century died in 1973 at the age of

Glial Cells Essay
Glial cells are the most numerous cells in the brain, outnumbering neurons nearly 3:1, although
smaller and some lacking axonal and dendritic projections. Once thought to play a subpar role to
neurons, glial cells are now recognized as responsible for much greater functions. There are many
types of glial cells, including: oligodendrocytes, microglia, and astrocytes. Oligodendrocytes form
the myelinsheath in the CNS, by wrapping themselves around the axons of neurons. Their PNS
counterpart, Schwann cells, are also considered glial cells. This sheath insulates the axon and
increases the speed of transmission, analogous to the coating on electrical wires. Microglia are
considered to be immune system like ; removing viruses, fungi, and other wastes that are present.
Astrocytes, however, are considered to be the most prominent. Their functions span throughout the
brain, including, but not limited to: the synchronization of axonal transmission via G protein
coupled receptors, blood flow regulation via the dilation of blood vessels, and the performance of
reactive gliosis in conjunction with microglia. Both astrocytes and oligodendrocytes develop from
neuroepithelial cells. Other types of glial cells include Radial glia, which direct immature neuron
migration during development.
Astrocytes have been shown to communicate amongst themselves, as well as participate in
bidirectional communication with neurons via the Tripartite synapse . Ca2+ dependent glutamate

Torres Strait Islanders Stereotypes
пѓјThe Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have had many impacts on their culture since
European settlement in Australia. The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders were seen to be
savages with no civilisation and as such Australia was seen as Terra Nullius . With European
settlement Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders saw a loss of their land and culture, labour
exploitation, introduced diseases, change of diet and a loss in their rights as a citizen and as a
human being. Many laws and policies were introduced which controlled an Aboriginal and Torres
Strait Islanders life, many things for which we take for granted today. Things such as residence,
employment, marriage, social and daily life were all restricted. Most notably was the laws
introduced that allowed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children to be forcibly removed from
their families.
пѓјMany Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders have experienced trauma, loss, isolation and abuse
and because of this are quite hesitant to engage with services and interact with other cultures as
they are fearful of similar things occurring to them. The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders have

Transcription:
DNA consists of two strands. One is the coding strand and the other is the template stand. In
transcription there is an enzyme called RNA polymerase that unzips the two strands. This allows
RNA nucleotides (uracil, adenine, guanine and cytosine) to enter the DNA and connect to the
corresponding DNA nucleotides (thymine, adenine, guanine and cytosine) on the template strand.
After the nucleotides have been paired, phosphodiester bonds, bond the RNA nucleotides together
and this creates a continuous strain of mRNA which is capable of leaving the cell s nucleus,
whereas the DNA cannot as the molecule is too big. Once the mRNA has moved out of the nucleus
it moves to a ribosome. (1)

Childhood In Harry Potter
The Heroic Childhood: Joseph Campbell s Hero Characteristics in Rowling s Harry Potter J.K.
Rowling s Harry Potter demonstrates the characteristics of a hero as described by Joseph Campbell
in The Hero With A Thousand Faces. These characteristics are largely demonstrated in the hero s
childhood though they extend through the heros journey. Mostly, the hero must grow up as an
orphan or an outsider and endure a difficult childhood as a result of this. The child s guardians are
often cruel or ignorant of the child s needs. By surviving loneliness the hero will learn kindness and
empathy which will allow him to build important relationships with peers and mentors. The hero s
isolation from the society to which they belong will develop the child s humility and consequently
their ability to ask for assistance. However, the hero must... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

These childhood events are all important to this development, however the most significant is
the isolation of the hero as an orphan. Not only does this loneliness teach the hero how to be
kind, but the hero learns the value of loyalty. The hero does not have a family to rely on and thus
the friendships built with empathy and loyalty are the most important ones to the hero and his
quest. These friends offer crucial assistance to the hero s success and since the hero has learned
humility from years of hardship he is able to ask for help. Since the hero is an outsider, he does
not benefit from power structures in place, they are more than willing to break apart any biased
societal norms. The hero has a greater insight into unjust societies since they can view them from
outside instead of within. Without the hardships of the hero s childhood they would not develop
heroic characteristics and thus would not be successful in their

Trading Eligible Emissions Units in the Carbon Market
Trading Eligible Emissions Units in the Carbon Market
Starting from the Kyoto protocol and culminating in the 2011 Durban agreement, world leaders
have put into motion, a coordinated effort to save the world through concerted actions by their
countries to reduce the carbon emissions. The reason for this agreement was the perspective that
the world will not survive at the rate of the present emissions. Hence, the World Congress is has no
option but to act strongly on these lines. The Kyoto protocol has extracted promises from the
member nations about the extent to which they will guarantee to reduce carbon emissions by the
year 2020. The experts are continuously calculating the impact of global warming on diverse
situations in life, while the businessmen are calculating how it will impact their strategies for the
future (Alen, D.S., 2012).
In this combined endeavor to address the problem of global warming, there is now this effort to
invest strongly on the green energy sources from the sun and the wind, etc., that can safely replace
the conventional source of power, without the exploitation of the carbon product, and thereby,
reduce the carbon emissions greatly. On the other hand, carbon footprints are also enhanced greatly
by the concerted effort of the member countries to increase their forests and agricultural areas.
From this was born carbon credit (Alen, D.S., 2012).

Sterotypic Stability
To effectively determine the ability and degree of personality change in middle adulthood it is
important to indicate the definition of personality continuity. The psychological consistency of a
person s feelings, beliefs and actions are defined as heterotypic stability. In heterotypic stability, it is
important to communicate behavioral expressions can present diversely during different stages of
life such as young children and adults (Donnellan, 2016). Researchers of heterotypic stability must
first identify the behaviors that are dissimilar over a lifespan but never the less represent the same
trait before continuity can be studied (Donnellan, 2016). Heterotypic stability is an important
concept to consider when analyzing personality change.

Tyrannicide Is The Killing Of A Tyrant By Usurpation
Tyrannicide is the killing of a tyrant. Usually killed for the common good. The English noun tyrant
derives from Latin tyrannus, meaning illegitimate ruler . The term Tryannicides describes those
who kill tyrants. Tyrants can be classified in two categories usurpation and oppression. A tyrant by
usurpation is when a tyranttries to take down a higher ruler. In other words, a tyrant by usurpation
is a traitor. These types of tyrants may be put straight to death by legitimate authority. If a usurper
already established his rule and is living peacefully with his reigns, until a certain period, the
legitimate ruler can expel him by force. The ruler can kill him for his offence. However under
different circumstances, if the legitimate ruler

King Leopolds Ghost Essay
Book Review of King Leopold s Ghost, by Adam Hochschild
What some have considered to be the first international scandal of
the modern era took place in the Congo from 1890 until 1910. King Leopold
II of Belgium was at the head of this so called scandal. Although Europe
and the rest of the world seemed to have forgotten the victims of these
crimes, there is a considerable amount of material to use when attempting to
recreate the horror that took place in Leopold s Congo. This is exactly
what Adam Hochschild is attempting to do by writing this book. By using the
written words of mostly Europeans and Americans, which creates a distorted
view of history, he wants to show that the Holocaust type event ... Show more content on

By acting as the director and guiding his actors and stagehands,
Leopold finds the angle he needs and that is pretending to engage in a
philanthropy movement in the quot;dark continent. quot;
In Chapter 9, quot;Meeting Mr. Kurtz, quot; Hochschild provides a good
description of the novel, Heart of Darkness, and in the process enlightens
the reader about the true background and meaning to Joseph Conrad s novel.
Early in the book, Hochschild mentions the novel and how it has been studied
for Freudian overtones, mystic echoes, and its inward vision. According to
him, the book is more fact than fiction because there are many similarities
between the book and Conrad s very own travels into the Congo. In fact,
Hochschild calls the narrator of Heart of Darkness, Marlow, Conrad s alter
ego. Probably the biggest example of how the book is based on Conrad s own
travels is the fact that the stories villain, Mr. Kurtz, is clearly
inspired by a number of real people. These include George Antoine Klein,
Major Edmund Barttelot, and Captain Leon Rom, who probably is the real life
basis for Kurtz s most important signal, a collection of African heads
around his house. Heart of Darkness is given a completely new spin because
of Hochschild s interpretation.
Hochschild has a tendency to be too descriptive. There are some
parts in the book

The Big Short, Directed By Adam Mckay
Summary
The film the Big Short, directed by Adam McKay is about the financial/housing crisis of 2008. The
film explains how the history of the housing market, how the crisis began, and introduced all of the
people and companies involved. The most important aspect of the movie was that the crisis was
foreseen, but nothing was done to prevent it. The three main characters are Michael Burry, Jared
Vennett, and Mark Baum. Burry was the first to recognize the faulty practices of the housing
market, and bet against the market. His actions caught the attention of Vennett and Baum, which led
them to investigate the housing market, and bet against it as well.
Housing/Financial Crisis of 2008
During the housing/financial crisis of 2008, I was in the 10th grade. My parents did not have bank
accounts or owned a home, and I did not watch the news, therefore I did not anything about the
crisis. Prior to watching the film, I had no clue it occurred. All of the information in the film was
new knowledge. A few terms that were new to me were subprime mortgage, collateralized debt
obligation (CDO), adjustable rates and credit default swap.
A subprime mortgage is a loan that is offered to people who are not necessarily qualified for a
loan, which makes them risky mortgages. Since the lenders are taking on this risk, the interest
rates are extremely high to somewhat make up for the risk. A CDO is various pieces of assets that
are put together and sold to investors. Assets that are included

Bringing Chicago to Life
Carl Sandburg describes Chicago as a tough and hefty city. Chicago is portrayed as a proud city,
a city proud to be so strong and cunning whereas other cities of the time were not. Chicago is
characterized by the people and workers who live in it. Sandburg loves Chicago even though it is a
brutally tough city. Sandburg uses imagery, personification, and punctuation to characterize the city
as an actual person.
Sandburg uses imagery that gives Chicago the reputation of being wicked, crooked, and brutal.
The author gives references of when people have called the city such names. Sandburg says, And
they tell me you are crooked and I answer: Yes, it is true I have seen/ the gunman kill and go free to
kill again, (line 8 9). Not only did Sandburg write this line to give an example of one of the things
people call his city but he is also saying yes I have seen it happen, Chicago can be dangerous.
Despite what people say about his city he still describes it as proud. Sandburg sneers, Come and
show me another city with lifted head singing so proud to be/ alive and coarse and strong and
cunning, (14 15). Sandburg defends his city while some people think it is cruel and harsh he
describes Chicago as proud of those characteristics. Sandburg portrays Chicago as wicked,
crooked, and brutal, but takes pride in living in a city that is so tough.
Sandburg uses personification to describe Chicago as an actual living person. The author
characterizes Chicago as various types of workers.

A Case Study of Singapore
Introduction
Singapore has long built its economy on its strategic positioning for trade. The country is now
home to the world s second largest container port according to the World Shipping Council
(2013). The country s position as a leading trade makes it a natural place to find solutions to
global supply chain issues, and has also encouraged a significant amount of foreign direct
investment in the country. Foreign companies have set up shop in Singapore, often in either
services or retail. This paper will analyze some of the issues that foreign firms dealing in Singapore
have with respect to global supply chain management.
Case Study #1: Starbucks
Starbucks has a significant retail presence in Singapore, but it also benefits from the country s
geographic position in a couple of ways. The first is that Singapore is situated in the heart of a
fertile coffee growing region critical islands like Java, Sumatra and New Guinea are nearby, as are
high volume growing regions like Vietnam. Starbucks has set up a regional distribution center in
Singapore in order to manage the flow of goods and services throughout Asia, both in terms of raw
materials and finished goods.
Changi Airport Group (2013) notes that Starbucks is one of many Western countries to have such a
regional distribution center. With stores throughout Southeast Asia, the coffee company can

or over sea to Indonesia

oSpray bottle, colored paint, water This activity will be completed during the third center. Inside
the spray bottle pour desired colored paint and dilute with some water, close it up. Place bottle
close to mouth and pretend to sneeze and/or cough on table surface without covering the mouth.
The diluted paint should spray table, have students try if they wish to do so, this will show
students how far, and fast germs spread. o Bottle of lotion, different colored glitter This activity
will be led outside. Give students a liberal amount of lotion and have them slather it all over
hands, give them each a different colored glitter and rub on hands. Then have students shake
hands amongst themselves to show how easily germs spread. After this messy activity have
students try to wash hands with only water so they can see that not all the glitter comes off.
Second, have students properly wash their hands with warm water, and soap for 20 seconds or
more to see that it s not only important to wash hands, but it s even more important to wash
hands correctly. o Song (row your boat melody): wash, wash, wash your hands, soap will make

Social Media And Traditional Media
Traditional media has failed to live up to its fourth estate role. This has lead us to the question,
can the more modern, social media, make up for the lack of success that traditional media has
had in fulfilling this watchdog role for the people? Kemp s rules of CIDRA1 apply to social
media as they do with traditional media. Thus, we must determine what, if any, obstacles are
present in preventing social media from completing this role. More specifically, do the five filters
that Chomsky highlights apply to social media as they do to traditional media? Or does the
fundamental structure of social media allow for it to accomplish a fifth estaterole? I argue that
social media is more effective at playing a watchdog role than traditional media. Social media is
built on a platform that has the interest of working for the people in terms of freedom of
distributing ideas and checking elitepower in liberal democracies. Furthermore, ...traditional media
formats are no longer the only politically relevant forms of media (Metzgar, Maruggi, 2009, p.
149). The reason that social media can have higher success in acting as a watchdog role stems
from one central theme: when it comes to social media, less of Chomsky s filters lie between the
person wanting to distribute an idea and the ability to have this idea delivered to the public.
We must understand the foundation of social media, and determine if it can meet the standards
brought by Kemp. This, along with determining if Chomsky s

The Rising Of A New Nurse Leader
The Rising of a New Nurse leader
Introduction
The making of a nurse leader takes education, training, and experience. Whatever the personality

leader. A professional nurse in leadership is one that is transformational, involved in a professional
organization, a change agent, and has a high Emotional Intelligence to be able to manage a team.

Managed time leads to greater productivity and manageable stress. Moreover, a nurse leader should
be an expert in what she does and a certification is an excellent objective measure of that
knowledge worth acquiring by someone in nursing leadership role. She should also be aware of
the political process in nursing in order to develop into a nurse leader who sets professional goals
and influence others to do likewise. Knowledge of the nursing political process can elevate the
nursing profession through proactive engagement in the legislative process making positive
changes in the healthcare industry possible. Membership on local or national organizations is a
platform for nurses to be in tuned of the current ethical, legal, social issues related to health care.
Involvement in the decision policy making process is not necessarily mean running for political
offices, although possible, but a mere campaign support for someone whose objective is to benefit
the nursing industry at large is undeniably advantageous for the nursing profession (Trosmman
2004).
A Transformational Leader Professional nurses must deliver leadership with communication and
collaborative skills, ethical and legal principles, integrity, and commitment to provide excellent
quality patient care. True leadership is beyond the position of being a manager (Grossman Valiga
2012). In transformational leadership, a nurse individualizes

White Privilege And White Skin Privilege
2
Privilege refers to the unearned advantages enjoyed by a particular group simply because of
membership in that group. Privileges accrue to those who (consciously or not) oppress others and
are generally invisible to those who enjoy them (Swigonski, M.E. 1996). Having that in mind my
position on white privilege (or white skin privilege) which can also be called the huge pink
elephant in the room. Society (especially now) believe that America have advanced past racism
when in all actuality we still have a long way to go. People in our society can go through life
without knowing about white privilege or realizing they themselves, may have this privilege. The
white or lighter skin color of a person has automatic benefits, right from birth, them not ever
having to do anything to attain this privilege. The consequences are mostly good and outweigh
the bad, for the ones that have white privilege. However, skin that is not white has far more
injustices, they are oppressed and they are the ones that suffer, not having this same privilege
(King, M.T. 2009). I do believe the only difference between racism and 2016 as compared to 1960
is the law civil laws enacted caused white Americans to construct more subtle ways of displaying
racist behaviours. In doing this assignment not only did I read what the author stated about white

Is It Possible to Restore a Balance between the...
Recently everyone has started hearing the out cry surrounding the problem of the degradationof the
worlds ecosystems that have a negative effect on the biodiversity and the livelihoods of people
worldwide. People are beginning to realise that that these bio systems can not be conserved just
through the protection of critical areas alone.
A new solution whos potential hasn t been fully taken advantage of until now is ecological
restoration which is a process whereby not only the recovery of eco systems that have been
degraded damaged or destroyed are looked at but also the human influences that surround them.
In order for ecological restoration to be effective it needs to pay attention to four main aspects
namely:
Improvement of biodiversity conservation,
Improvement of the livelihoods of people,
The empowerment of the native and local people and
The improvement of the productivity of the ecosystems.
The difference between typical conservation where only the environment is considered and
ecological restoration is that it has the potential to make opportunities available not only to repair
the damage done to the ecosystems but also to improve the condition of the people involved in
rescuing it. Because people belive they are helping themselfs ecological restoration has been able
to alter the perspective of people in the local community, allowing new economic opportunities to
form aswel as the rejuvinaton of traditional cultural practices. In this way it can be seen

The Atomic Bomb Of Hiroshima And Nagasaki
The Atomic Bomb
After World War I, no one, not even the Head of Chemical Warfare, suspected such a weapon
would be dropped on civilians in the near future. Prior to the development of the atomic bomb in
World War II, gas bombing and incendiary bombing were prevalent (Rotter 5). The race to create
nuclear weapons and the excitement of succeeding technologically is thought to have distorted the
morality of those who decided to bomb Hiroshima and Nagasaki. These atomic bombings are
plausibly the first and last of their kind, as increasing nuclear programs in countries worldwide

Ironically, approximately twenty years later, the United States of America was blamed for doing
just that. Arguably, the entire Atomic Bomb situation began on August 2, 1939, when President
Franklin D. Roosevelt received a letter revealing by purifying uranium 235 one had the potential to
create a bomb. It also revealed the efforts in Nazi Germany to create a bomb (Bellis 1). In response
to this letter, a secret government project called the Manhattan Project , began (Bellis 1).
The Manhattan Project was top secret at the time, and served the purpose of creating and testing
an atomic bomb(Bellis 1). Between 1939 and 1945 over two billion dollars were given to the
Manhattan Project (Bellis 1). The scientists burdened with inventing such a bomb mostly
originated from the University of Chicago (Bellis 1). To create an atomic bomb, a specific
amount of enriched uranium must be used, to create a chain reaction (Bellis 1). The group of
scientists, headed by Enrico Fermi and J. Robert Oppenheimer, created a pile of forty five metric
tons of natural uranium embedded in solid graphite (Bellis 1). Although the reaction was slowed
because the uranium 235 was not extracted, it was considered successful (Bellis 1). The next step
was to extract the uranium 235, and create a real bomb (Bellis 1). The way to go about this
creation was difficult. The ratio of uranium to uranium ore is five hundred to one. The one part in
that ratio is ninety nine

The Existence Of Evil By Blackburn Theory
Introduction: 53 In Blackburn theory I am going to argue that his theory the existence of evil
strongly suggests that there does not exist a God who is all good, all knowing and all powerful to
be false. In my argument I will try to present facts that show the existence of God and why there is
evil.
Exposition: 313 In Blackburn s argument he basically mentions that because there is evil in the
world there is no existence of a present creator. It is impossible to see the suffering that s going
on in the world and suggest that it s a part of a good plan. Why would a creator of all good be
able to stand by and watch individuals suffer, and of all knowing and powerful why not put an
end to all suffering at once. Logically a creator of all good and all powerful would be able to put a
stop to suffering and evil immediately. Blackburn also mentions that religious individuals state that
because of free will the world is what it is today. The notion that Godcreated a perfect world with
humans having free will and because of the misuse of that free will evil is present. Blackburn is
against this idea total, he mentioned we couldn t have free will without the influence of the past
we can be free to do whatever we want and potentially to be blame for it, but the will is the
influence of the past so we basically doing what the past tell us which is determinism. Blackburn
also states that it s not only human decisions that inflict evil

Throughout the six week research study, ABC news political stories were mainly factual detail

occurred when it covered stories about other politicians calling Trump bizarre, politicians
criticizing another over Twitter, and Trump s endless statements about engaging in conflict with
other politicians. Additionally, Univision produces hoopla in its top political stories, where it
overemphasizes Trump s mistakes and his administrations mistakes as well as how his efforts are
negatively impacting people. After completing research on the two news sources, ABC news and

Netflix Strategic Plan
Currently, there are only a few stores in existence; it continues to operate in Alaska and Texas for
those last of the hardcore video renters . Blockbuster will soon be extinct.
Netflix is currently utilized in 190 countries and projecting expansion to over 200 countries within
the next two years. CEO Reed Hastings and CFO David Wells wrote to their investors stating:
Progress has been so strong that we now believe we can complete our global expansion over the
next two years, while staying profitable, which is earlier than we expected . Strategically, Netflix
decided that now is time to expand globally. As a result, Netflix ended the year of 2014 with a

Even though Netflix is successful in revenue and expanded globally, it is vital for the

Amazon.com and Hulu that are becoming more popular with their lower monthly pricing. They

mother to abandon her child. This meant that if mothers wanted to provide their child a safe and

Analysis Of Don Quixote
Don Quixote
By Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra
Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra is the tale of a Christian knight, don Quixote, and
his trustworthy squire, Sancho Panza, and their quests around Spain. Thus, I travel about this
wilderness and these unpopulated areas seeking adventures, and I m committed to offering my arm
and my person in any perilous adventure that comes my way to help the weak and needy. (p. 97 98)
Our story takes place in the seventeenth century in La Mancha, south central Spain.
Miguel de Cervantes takes us on this epic adventure firstly by introducing don Quixote and some of
his deeds, and later on Sancho Panza, and the incredible undertakings they faced for the sake of
knight errantry. Our main character, don Quixote, was an hidalgo of about fifty years old with a
lanky figure and a passion for romances of chivalry, which he believed to be true. His muse was
Dulcinea del Toboso.
Don Quixote decided to go out with his horse, Rocinante, to redress all the wrongs and help those
in need as the knights errant in those stories he cherished. He first went to an inn, where the
innkeeper dubbed him a knight. Don Quixote was found hurt by a man of his village and taken
back. Don Quixote s niece, the priest, and the barber of his village blamed those books for his
craziness so they burned them.
Don Quixote decided to start a second expedition now with the company of his neighbor Sancho
Panza as his squire, and promising Sancho that he would become the governor of an insula. Sancho
was by nature a coward and quite fainthearted, he was illiterate but a ludicrous character. Their first
adventure together was the encounter with the windmills which don Quixote thought were giants,
suffice it to say he ended beaten on the ground.
Don Quixote now called himself the Woebegone Knight and Sancho was reprimanded because of
his absurd linking of proverbs. After many travails, they arrived to Sierra Morena where don

do not accept Medicaid because the bill is paid through the state and it takes the physicians a long

The outrageous cost of medical care in the United States is one of the greatest disadvantages of our

created to reduce costs, and this meant that physicians no longer are autonomous practitioners in

As a result HMO s try to cover younger, healthy subscribers who are less likely to become sick.

2. Condition for an Ideal Niche Market. The first condition for a niche market is ideal is if the
market is large enough to be profitable for businesses. The fact that the niche market s size is too
small to offset the cost to the business. In this case the exploring a niche market have no meaning
for business anymore. Secondly, niche markets have to grow potentially. Once businesses have
chosen a niche market, the growth of niche markets synonymous with the growth of the company.
In fact if holding a niche businesses can not afford to expand business will bring a lot of risks, no
assurance market segment that will not shrink. The third reason is niche market is not ideal
anymore to exist due to too many competitors. Even though the opponent is not too strong a threat
to enterprises pie will become less tasty if it is divided for too many people. Once you have
identified a niche market to satisfy all three conditions, then on the 4th reason, it now needs to do is
to determine their ability to meet that segment or not. If the potential of the small businesses that

it was in the middle of the day, awake and full of energy (but is not like that happens, anyways).
You really don t know really how it feels until it s happening to you and now I know how it feels.
There is difficulty in falling or staying asleep. Then, the waking up in the morning early and being

awake cycle is turned on and so the sleep cycle is turned off. The strength of something being so
powerful keeps you awake without the ability to have a peaceful sleep; it is exhausting. It all

different communities and tradition, it would be a great interest of knowledge to understand the

(Surah 4:43). Prophet (the messenger of Allah) believes that intoxicants are highly displeasing
to God, so he ordered people to destroy all kinds of intoxicating drinks. Prophet prohibits people
from eating near the table containing any intoxicant drinks, forbids the use of vessel in which
intoxicating drink (Khamr) has been made or served. He believes that God has cursed Khamr
and the people who drinks it, serves it, carries it and the people to whom it has been carried.
(Ahmad b. Hanbal, Musnad, vol. 2, p. 97; vol. 1, p. 316; Abu Da ud, Ashribah , 2 Ed.) Moreover,
Quran mentions O you who have faith! Indeed wine, gambling, idols and the divining arrows are
abominations of Satan s doing, so avoid them, so that you may be felicitous. (Quran 5:90). Quran
believes that intoxicants are the tools used by Satan (an evil) to distract humankind from the
worship of God. Satan excites enmity and hatred between people, hinder them from remembering
and praying God. Alcohol leads to sinful behavior and unsafe sexual behavior which is strictly
against the law of Allah so to have the Mercy of Allah Muslims (people of Islamic religion) strictly
stop consuming alcohol and other intoxicants. From all these evidences and verses written in Quran

Toyota Unintended Acceleration Case Study
A Case Study on Toyota Unintended Acceleration Toyota s Unintended Acceleration disaster
could have been avoided if the software engineers had practiced proper software development
steps. Numerous lessons, both technical and managerial can be learned from this software
catastrophe. Three crucial lessons include: ensuring the proper implementation of fail safes,
adherence to rigorous coding standards (MISRA C), and minimizing software complexity. The
first incident of unwanted acceleration occurred in 2003. However, this was not reported to the
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) until five years later. And it was not
until 2004 that the NHTSA actively began investigating certain Toyota models. These
investigations were eventually deemed inconclusive due to the lack of resources (rather than
actual evidence) to investigate further (Bagnara, 2014). Over the next three years a series of
investigations open up, but once again have been deemed inconclusive due to lack of
administrative resources (Bagnara, 2014). In 2007, the acceleration issues are associated with
faulty floor mats getting caught beneath the pedals causing the vehicle to accelerate
uncontrollable. Toyota begins issuing recalls soon after. Two years later, a fatal accident occurs
involving the death of four people which was again linked to defective floor mats. However, it was
quickly becoming evident that not all the fault can be blamed on floor mats. In 2010, Toyota
reveals that the

My Thoughts About Sexual Identity
When asked to write a candid and self revealing journal about my experiences, thoughts, feelings
and beliefs related to human sexuality, I became intrigued. Throughout my early life, my own
sexuality has been something of considerable focus because I knew that I was different than the
average boy. Later, I discovered this difference was called being gay, homosexual, a faggot, or
queer. I remember these names stinging just a bit because I did not want to be different than other
boys, I just wanted to be accepted and close to other boys. Consequently, my identity orbited around
numerous fears, thoughts, and reactions by others and me to how I subsisted as a person because
of what I discovered about myself during my journey through childhood,... Show more content on

Moreover, I learned that my sexuality was natural and healthy until the AIDS crisis in the
eighties. The crisis around HIV/AIDS generated numerous myths which may or may not have
been considered sexual, but the most devastating was the revision of the myth that God hated
fags. This was proven to mainstream society because God was punishing gay men with AIDS
and causing us to suffer for our sin of loving. As one can see, my sexuality at an early age was
wrapped up in politics, religious proclamations, and fear. It was only when I assimilated myself
in a community of gay people that I truly understood that the myth based rhetoric was wrong and
damaging to my well being. Identify when you were first aware of yourself as a sexual being.
How/when did that come about? The bombast of politics and religion was not in my world view
when I first discovered that I stood as a sexual being. When I was in kindergarten, I became
aware that something was driving me (a feeling) toward physical contact with another person
even though they were male or female. Did I know what sex was at that time? I am not sure. My
parents were brought up in the generation of free love and were extraordinarily sexually open
around me as far back as I could remember. I knew physical contact

General Partner (Gp). If A Fund Is Created Then Obliviously
General Partner (GP)
If a fund is created then obliviously you need a person to manage it. This is done by General
Partner (GP). GP makes all decisions about the private equity fund and is also in charge of
managing the fund s portfolio. The portfolio will contains all of the fund s investments.
General partner is paid either by way of a management fee or it can be by way of compensation.
Management fee is a fixed percentage of total amount of the fund s capital. Generally this fee range
from 1% to 2% annually of the capital committed.
For example if Assets under management is 100bn than a 2% management fee would be $2bn.
These fees are utilised for admin purpose and to cover expense such as salaries, deal fees paid to

So GP contributed only 5% in the fund.
The GP agter receiving funds would invests all of the capital in acquiring companies. As few years
pass by, they exit all their portfolio companies for $2B total. The LPs get $ 860Mn back first that s
returning their capital. That leaves $1.14 B left, and it s divided up 80 / 20 between LPs and GP.
So the LPs get $ 912M and the GP gets $228M. So the GP invested $40M at the start, but gets
back $200M in profits. GP thus made a 5x return in this fund.
Sometimes carried interest is in form of equity.
Interest in a fund is allocated as shares. This interest is based on each Limited Partner s capital
contribution, with a certain percentage of these shares (which would be typically 20%) allocated to
the General Partner as carry. Carry shares more often than not have a multi year vesting period that
tracks investments made.
Equity carry is split between senior executives at the private equity firm. There are many flavors of
carried interest so doing an apples to apples comparison of two different carry packages is often
difficult.
Performance fees motivate the private equity firms to generate superior realized returns. These fees
are intended to align the interests of the general partner and its LPs.
Hurdle Rate
However, many PE firms allow this performance fee post Hurdle rate. So the General Partner will
receives the carry that is performance fee only when the fund generates profits above a certain

The Theme Of Reality In The Poisonwood Bible
Throughout the novel, The Poisonwood Bible written by Barbara Kingsolver, many characters lose
their faith and come to terms with reality. Adah Price, one of the four Price sisters, maintains a
somewhat detached outlook on life until she hears that her president is planning to overthrow
Congo. Adah says that, The smiling bald man with the grandfather face has another face. This
quote is important because helps Adah come to terms with reality, if only for a moment, and
realize that not everything is as it seems. It also tells how Adah has become disillusioned from her
father figures. The quote stands out because it is real, very real. Adah finds out that President

As she watches the events unfold between her family, Africa, and the American government, she
learns the unpleasant truth that the government is corrupt. She furthers loses faith in her father
and in God as time wears on and she discovers that reality is a brutal place. The scary aspect of
the quote is that it points out the horrible truth of the two facedness of not only the government
but of people in general. The government is known to do terrible things, some completely
avoidable and unnecessary, and it happens more than people like to admit. Individual people can
turn on a friend and change in the blink of an eye. It seems impossible but it is always the nice
and quiet ones to watch out for. A kind and smiling face does not mean that s/he is incapable of
betrayal. When Adah speaks of the smiling bald man having two faces, she opens not only her
own eyes but of the eyes of the reader also. The harsh truth is that the government is corrupt and
society is crooked; they are willing to do immoral things to achieve their own goals. Adah realizes
this in her stay in the Congo and further distances herself from her father and other figures. Horrific
things massacre, theft, treason are happening, and the world and its people cannot continue to be
blind to that

Spinal Cord Injury ( Sci )
Spinal cord injury (SCI) can be dated back to the Egyptains, who described it as an ailment not
to be treated (Sarhan, Saif, Saif, 2012 p .319). SCI victims had no hope for a normalized future
and were confined to wheelchairs and experienced poor survival rates because of the demands of
care. Advancements in emergency care and rehabilitation practices increase neurological function
to the spine which has increased the SCI victim s changes of survival and return to normal
locomotion. The spinal column can be divided into 31 segments and comprise seven cervical,
twelve thoracic, five lumbar and five sacral vertebral segments which protect the spinal cord
(Sarhan, et al. p. 319 320). The nerves of the spinal column relay biological information to and from
the brain by ascending and descending tracts. A SCI occurs when acute trauma is generated to the
spinal cord. Significant pathology and pathophysiology damage blocks communication between the
brain and the rest of the body. A person s motor skills, autonomic functions, and sensations are
affected by the initial injury. The higher the injury occurs on the spinal column, the more
dysfunctional the person may become. The primary injury determines a given patient s neurologic
grade on admission and thereby is the strongest prognostic indicator (Dumont, Okonkwo, Verma,
Hurlbert, Boulos, Ellegala, Dumont, 2001 p. 254). Secondary injuries can occur from vascular,
cellular, and/or biochemical changes at the injury site.

Similarities in Conrad s Heart of Darkness and Coppola s Apocalypse Now
Sometimes, a work is so great that artists from other forms of expression are compelled to
interpret that work in their own medium. Francis Ford Coppola took James Conrad s classic novel
Heart of Darkness and updated it to the time of the Vietnam War. James Conrads classic novella
Heart of Darkness is a tale about a seaman who makes his way up the Congo river in search of a
man and his ivory. In 1979, Francis Ford Coppola released Apocalypse Now, centered around an
Army officer that has been ordered to assassinate an insane American officer. He, too, must travel
upriver, but this time it is on the Mekong River in Vietnam. However different, both of these stories

his journey. During a physical exam, the Doctor advised Marlow to avoid irritation more than
exposure to the sun because in the tropics one must keep everything calm (Conrad 15). On their
way up the river, it had been decided it would be better to wait the night. The anchor had been
dropped on the boat, and as the sun rose there was a white fog, very warm and clammy, and more
blinding than the night (Conrad 41). From somewhere in the jungle, Marlow is described as
saying: ... a very loud cry of infinite desolation soared slowly in the opaque air. It ceased. A
complaining clamour, modulated in savage discords, filled our ears. The sheer unexpectedness of
it made my hair stir under my cap (41). He continues, I don t know how it struck the others, to me
it seemed as though the mist had screamed, so suddenly and apparently from all sides at once did
this tumultuous and mournful uproar arise (Conrad 41). Marlow s crew panicked, and one man
wondered if they would be attacked. Another murmured, We will all be butchered in this fog

Relationship Between Crime And Criminology
INTRODUCTION
Criminology is the study of crime from a social perspective: the causes of crime, the social impact
of crime, and the criminals involved in the crime. Criminologists study criminology in an attempt to
better understand what motivates the criminal to act in a criminal manner. The criminal law is a
kind of law that controls the offense committed against society. Criminal law should be
distinguished from the civil law. For example, if someone is stealing, then the criminal law will be
used to control or manage the thief. Investigations, arrests and indictments will be made in
accordance with the criminal law. The offense is controlled by the criminal law because the offense
of theft is considered as an offense against society.
What is Criminology?
Crime is a social and economic phenomenon in society. The... Show more content on

Both disciplines meet at the focus of crime, for example behavior liable to punishment. But while,
one of the primary tasks of criminal law is to be define that which is punishable under existing
law, criminology on the other hand concerns itself with the criminal acts and the human beings
who infringe the criminal code, and with the environment of these persons. This contrast is due to
a certain simplification which ignores the mutual dependence between criminal law and
criminology. Even though criminology in principle is a descriptive, empirical and non normative
science, the subject of its investigations cannot be defined without criteria that rest upon social
evaluations. Empirical studies of criminology should always be based upon the existing legal
definitions of the concept of criminality if a well defined and controllable mass of knowledge is
to be obtained. This does not imply, however, that the field of criminology can be defined simply
on the basis of the legal concept of crime. This concept is not constant from time to time from place

Animal Abandonment Research Paper
ANIMAL ABANDONMENT According to animal rights action.com, One of the largest problems
in the entire world that people don t realize is animal abandonment. When people think of animal
abandonment, they think of dogs on the streets or cats on a roof but animal abandonment is much
more. It is when owners of ANY animal abandons them either on the streets or in a shelter after
they agreed to adopt and take care of them. If you are a selfish person then you can not understand
the point of the animalsloss them you must understand your loss. The more animals there are in on

Many say reject the reason that it wasn t their fault. All the reasons so far all lead up to not
being educated about what they can do about the problem that is more productive and does not
affect the animal s health and does not affect the society. That is one of the reasons to be
educated to be aware of the problem and approach it at the right angle to solve it. According to
prime.peta.org, One of the reasons that does stick out is because of cruelty which is big but not a
very important one since it can be solved easily by an education. The reason for abandonment is
spayment and nurturing. When an animal is spayed or neutered, it is unable to create puppies
/kittens. However, this is not considered a bad thing to not have your dog/cat not have babies.
When people want a lot of cute puppies, they get a couple but then they want a lot more. So they
have their dog make more babies and create a large litter. Most people do not realize what they
are doing, they are giving birth to more puppies than they can handle. And once they realize that
their are too many they usually keep the cuter ones and abandon the other ones. Or, sometimes
they give them to someone else they just buy another dog instead of adopting dogs like them who
have been given up or abandoned. So far this shows that adopting a dog/cat is way more productive
that buying from a

He obtained a list of nonresident hunters to establish his first client list for his mail order business. His golden rule for the company is Sell good merchandise at a reasonable profit, treat your customers like humans beings, and they ll always come back for more. In 1967 when L.L Bean died, his mail order business had grown to $4.75 Million in annual sales, the catalog was distributed to 600,000 customers, and employed 200 people. Since his grandson has taken over the company as of 2010 annual catalog and retail store sales are $1.44 billion. Critical Issue 3 What information should Scott Sklar have available to help him arrive at a demand forecast for a particular style of men s shirt that is a new catalog item? Alternative 1 Mr. Sklar will need all the rankings of the various shirts for the particular book this new shirt will be included in. There will need to be a meeting held to discuss where they believe this new item will fall within the other assigned shirt rankings while eliminating preconceived notions and rules of thumb. If this new product is similar to another shirt style then careful consideration needs to be taken to account for any steal in demand that this new shirt will have on any other lines L.L. Bean currently offers. Alternative 2 If this new shirt is believed to be a unique item and will have its own demand absent from the other products offered then a more separate forecast of sales is needed. The next conceivable step would be to develop a unit sales projection by forecasting unit sales per month. The use of the most recent past data available from a new catalogue item will be the most beneficial in helping this statistical analysis in forecasting sales. This will lead to a ... Since using the JIT system Space Age has uncovered a problem with its key worker ED putting in to many hours due to a glitch in the production of part 3079. In addition to the manufacturing problem Space Age is facing they are also in a dilemma regarding the reduction of overtime costs and inventory costs. • 5. Public Rituals In Renaissance Florence Essay Public ritual in Renaissance Florence involved many actors and took many forms. They could be civic rituals performed by the citizens of the city, or popular rituals where anyone could participate. They could also originate in the private sphere and were made available to the public. Public rituals had various purposes, but most importantly they reproduced hierarchies which conditioned the organisation of power within the Florentine polity, and ensured civil peace and harmony. This was particularly important in Renaissance Florenceas no one monarch ruled the city, and therefore no singular figure embodying authority and morality could be looked up to by the people. Keeping law and order was the ruling class major concern, and public rituals... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The portrait of Giuliano de Medici by Raphael, a tempera and oil on canvas, can be dated back to around 1515 (Fig. 2). The portrait includes a background depiction of Florence, which is revealed behind a green curtain. As part of a marriage arrangement with Philiberte of Savoy, it is not surprising that Florence would be depicted as an asset of Giuliano s. However, the picture was painted shortly after the carnival of 1513, and it highlights the sort of relationship that the Medici family wanted to re establish with the city and its people, using public rituals to achieve this. Giuliano s gaze is directed to the part of the curtain revealing the city, thus asserting his status as legimate ruler, watching over the people of Florence. This painting and the carnival of 1513 convey similar messages. When Girolamo Macchietti executed a portrait of Lorenzo the Magnificent, he used a similar device (Fig. 3). Lorenzo stands tall with Florence in the background, and he looks forward benevolently. What the Medicis attempted to achieve with public rituals, they successfully managed to reflect in their portraiture. With their backs turned to the city, they would have appeared to contemporaries as larger than life leaders protecting Florence s interests and history. The link between the two portraits is interesting because the carnival of 1513 was a clear attempt at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Corruption Of The Church In The Canterbury Tales The powerful grow more powerful through the actions of the people. Geoffrey Chaucer opposes the all powerful 14th century Catholic church in The Canterbury Tales. His displeasure resulted in the actions and practices of church officials. In The Canterbury Tales, individuals representing clergy members extort money, and sin for the gain of wealth within the church. Chaucer uses characterizations and language in The Canterbury Talesto express his displeasure and opposition with the 14th century Catholic church s practices. In The Canterbury Tales, Chaucer expresses a distaste with Catholic ideals and hypocrisy during the 14th century. His distaste shows in the characterizations of the pilgrims that represent the clergy. Each member of the clergy has a characteristic that represents their corruption. In Ideas And Institutions In European History 800 1715 by Mendenhall, an idea forms about the church and its corrupt ways. Each representative of the church embraces the idea of one true church and puts emphasis on the aforementioned, which allows the clergy to place a monopoly on salvation (Mendenhall, 25). The idea of gaining salvation from only one church or religion increases the ability of that church to extort money in exchange for forgiveness and salvation. The money then goes into the pockets of the clergy. In The Canterbury Tales, Chaucer expresses the overwhelming wealth of the church through characterization of the Monk. Traditionally, Monks vow to a life of poverty, chastity, and obedience as outlined in the Catholic Encyclopedia (1913). However, the Monk as described in The Canterbury Tales lives a life of nonpareil was he, who rode, as steward of his monastery, the country round; a lover of good sport, a manly man fit to be an abbot (Chaucer, 7). The Monk lives an uncharacteristically comfortable life that allows him time to hunt and enjoy lavish food and clothes. His lifestyle contradicts the traditional values of a Monk and therefore, symbolizes the church and their frivolous nature. Furthermore, The Monk is described as fit to be an abbot or head Monk, however, this contradicts the Monk s lack of consideration for his vows to a life of poverty and obedience considering his opposition to the ... • 8. Pablo Picasso Guernica Essay Guernica is another perfect example of Picasso exhibiting history in his work. The mural sized oil painting on canvas was painted by Pablo Picasso in 1937. It is painted in a palette of grey, black and white and is regarded by many as modern art s most powerful antiwar statement . The mural exhibits suffering people and animals wrenched by violence and chaos. A gored horse, a bull and flames are prominent features of the artwork. Guernicadisplays the tragedies of war and the suffering it imposes on individuals, specifically innocent civilians. The lack of colour intensifies the chaos and the tragedy. Guernica is a town in the province of Biscay in Basque Country. On Monday 26th April 1937, warplanes of the German Condor Legion bombed Guernica for two hours. At the time. And when it is finished, it goes on changing, according to the state of mind of whoever is looking at it. The bull and the horse are both important characters in Spanish culture. The rampaging bull is thought to represent the onslaught of Fascism. Picasso said the bull meant brutality and darkness while the horse represented the people of Guernica. • 9. Glial Cells Essay Glial cells are the most numerous cells in the brain, outnumbering neurons nearly 3:1, although smaller and some lacking axonal and dendritic projections. Once thought to play a subpar role to neurons, glial cells are now recognized as responsible for much greater functions. There are many types of glial cells, including: oligodendrocytes, microglia, and astrocytes. Oligodendrocytes form the myelinsheath in the CNS, by wrapping themselves around the axons of neurons. Their PNS counterpart, Schwann cells, are also considered glial cells. This sheath insulates the axon and increases the speed of transmission, analogous to the coating on electrical wires. Microglia are considered to be immune system like ; removing viruses, fungi, and other wastes that are present. Astrocytes, however, are considered to be the most prominent. Their functions span throughout the brain, including, but not limited to: the synchronization of axonal transmission via G protein coupled receptors, blood flow regulation via the dilation of blood vessels, and the performance of reactive gliosis in conjunction with microglia. Both astrocytes and oligodendrocytes develop from neuroepithelial cells. Other types of glial cells include Radial glia, which direct immature neuron migration during development. Astrocytes have been shown to communicate amongst themselves, as well as participate in bidirectional communication with neurons via the Tripartite synapse . Ca2+ dependent glutamate release also ... • 11. D1 Protein Synthesis D1 task 1; protein synthesis Transcription: DNA consists of two strands. One is the coding strand and the other is the template stand. In transcription there is an enzyme called RNA polymerase that unzips the two strands. This allows RNA nucleotides (uracil, adenine, guanine and cytosine) to enter the DNA and connect to the corresponding DNA nucleotides (thymine, adenine, guanine and cytosine) on the template strand. After the nucleotides have been paired, phosphodiester bonds, bond the RNA nucleotides together and this creates a continuous strain of mRNA which is capable of leaving the cell s nucleus, whereas the DNA cannot as the molecule is too big. Once the mRNA has moved out of the nucleus it moves to a ribosome. (1) Translation: Translation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Rowling s Harry Potter demonstrates the characteristics of a hero as described by Joseph Campbell in The Hero With A Thousand Faces. These characteristics are largely demonstrated in the hero s childhood though they extend through the heros journey. Mostly, the hero must grow up as an orphan or an outsider and endure a difficult childhood as a result of this. The child s guardians are often cruel or ignorant of the child s needs. By surviving loneliness the hero will learn kindness and empathy which will allow him to build important relationships with peers and mentors. These friends offer crucial assistance to the hero s success and since the hero has learned humility from years of hardship he is able to ask for help. Trading Eligible Emissions Units in the Carbon Market Trading Eligible Emissions Units in the Carbon Market Starting from the Kyoto protocol and culminating in the 2011 Durban agreement, world leaders have put into motion, a coordinated effort to save the world through concerted actions by their countries to reduce the carbon emissions. The reason for this agreement was the perspective that the world will not survive at the rate of the present emissions. Hence, the World Congress is has no option but to act strongly on these lines. The Kyoto protocol has extracted promises from the member nations about the extent to which they will guarantee to reduce carbon emissions by the year 2020. The experts are continuously calculating the impact of global warming on diverse situations in life, while the businessmen are calculating how it will impact their strategies for the future (Alen, D.S., 2012). In this combined endeavor to address the problem of global warming, there is now this effort to invest strongly on the green energy sources from the sun and the wind, etc., that can safely replace the conventional source of power, without the exploitation of the carbon product, and thereby, reduce the carbon emissions greatly. On the other hand, carbon footprints are also enhanced greatly by the concerted effort of the member countries to increase their forests and agricultural areas. • 16. King Leopolds Ghost Essay Book Review of King Leopold s Ghost, by Adam Hochschild What some have considered to be the first international scandal of the modern era took place in the Congo from 1890 until 1910. King Leopold II of Belgium was at the head of this so called scandal. Although Europe and the rest of the world seemed to have forgotten the victims of these crimes, there is a considerable amount of material to use when attempting to recreate the horror that took place in Leopold s Congo. This is exactly what Adam Hochschild is attempting to do by writing this book. The film explains how the history of the housing market, how the crisis began, and introduced all of the people and companies involved. The most important aspect of the movie was that the crisis was foreseen, but nothing was done to prevent it. The three main characters are Michael Burry, Jared Vennett, and Mark Baum. Burry was the first to recognize the faulty practices of the housing market, and bet against the market. His actions caught the attention of Vennett and Baum, which led them to investigate the housing market, and bet against it as well. Housing/Financial Crisis of 2008 During the housing/financial crisis of 2008, I was in the 10th grade. My parents did not have bank accounts or owned a home, and I did not watch the news, therefore I did not anything about the crisis. Prior to watching the film, I had no clue it occurred. All of the information in the film was new knowledge. A few terms that were new to me were subprime mortgage, collateralized debt obligation (CDO), adjustable rates and credit default swap. A subprime mortgage is a loan that is offered to people who are not necessarily qualified for a loan, which makes them risky mortgages. Since the lenders are taking on this risk, the interest rates are extremely high to somewhat make up for the risk. A CDO is various pieces of assets that are put together and sold to investors. • 27. Social Media And Traditional Media Traditional media has failed to live up to its fourth estate role. This has lead us to the question, can the more modern, social media, make up for the lack of success that traditional media has had in fulfilling this watchdog role for the people? Kemp s rules of CIDRA1 apply to social media as they do with traditional media. Thus, we must determine what, if any, obstacles are present in preventing social media from completing this role. More specifically, do the five filters that Chomsky highlights apply to social media as they do to traditional media? Or does the fundamental structure of social media allow for it to accomplish a fifth estaterole? I argue that social media is more effective at playing a watchdog role than traditional media. Social media is built on a platform that has the interest of working for the people in terms of freedom of distributing ideas and checking elitepower in liberal democracies. Furthermore, ...traditional media formats are no longer the only politically relevant forms of media (Metzgar, Maruggi, 2009, p. 149). The reason that social media can have higher success in acting as a watchdog role stems from one central theme: when it comes to social media, less of Chomsky s filters lie between the person wanting to distribute an idea and the ability to have this idea delivered to the public. We must understand the foundation of social media, and determine if it can meet the standards brought by Kemp. This, along with determining if Chomsky s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Privileges accrue to those who (consciously or not) oppress others and are generally invisible to those who enjoy them (Swigonski, M.E. 1996). Having that in mind my position on white privilege (or white skin privilege) which can also be called the huge pink elephant in the room. Society (especially now) believe that America have advanced past racism when in all actuality we still have a long way to go. People in our society can go through life without knowing about white privilege or realizing they themselves, may have this privilege. The white or lighter skin color of a person has automatic benefits, right from birth, them not ever having to do anything to attain this privilege. The consequences are mostly good and outweigh the bad, for the ones that have white privilege. However, skin that is not white has far more injustices, they are oppressed and they are the ones that suffer, not having this same privilege (King, M.T. 2009). The Existence Of Evil By Blackburn Theory Introduction: 53 In Blackburn theory I am going to argue that his theory the existence of evil strongly suggests that there does not exist a God who is all good, all knowing and all powerful to be false. In my argument I will try to present facts that show the existence of God and why there is evil. Exposition: 313 In Blackburn s argument he basically mentions that because there is evil in the world there is no existence of a present creator. It is impossible to see the suffering that s going on in the world and suggest that it s a part of a good plan. Why would a creator of all good be able to stand by and watch individuals suffer, and of all knowing and powerful why not put an end to all suffering at once. Logically a creator of all good and all powerful would be able to put a stop to suffering and evil immediately. Blackburn also mentions that religious individuals state that because of free will the world is what it is today. The notion that Godcreated a perfect world with humans having free will and because of the misuse of that free will evil is present. Blackburn is against this idea total, he mentioned we couldn t have free will without the influence of the past we can be free to do whatever we want and potentially to be blame for it, but the will is the influence of the past so we basically doing what the past tell us which is determinism. This meant that Chinese mothers could only have one child. Any additional children were taken from their parents by the government. At the time it was illegal for a Chinese mother to abandon her child. This meant that if mothers wanted to provide their child a safe and secure future, they often chose to leave the baby during the night either at or close to a children s orphanage. In my case it was reported that my motherleft me in blue clothes, wrapped in a nice blanket, and tucked me into a box. The box was placed at an open air market across street from the TuanFeng Orphanage. In most all reported cases mother s will hid and watch their child all night to make sure they are safe and found the next morning. I was found by Zi Young, an orphanage employee on March 12, 2001, and brought to the orphanage. • 41. Analysis Of Don Quixote Don Quixote By Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra is the tale of a Christian knight, don Quixote, and his trustworthy squire, Sancho Panza, and their quests around Spain. Thus, I travel about this wilderness and these unpopulated areas seeking adventures, and I m committed to offering my arm and my person in any perilous adventure that comes my way to help the weak and needy. (p. 97 98) Our story takes place in the seventeenth century in La Mancha, south central Spain. Miguel de Cervantes takes us on this epic adventure firstly by introducing don Quixote and some of his deeds, and later on Sancho Panza, and the incredible undertakings they faced for the sake of knight errantry. Our main character, don Quixote, was an hidalgo of about fifty years old with a lanky figure and a passion for romances of chivalry, which he believed to be true. His muse was Dulcinea del Toboso. Don Quixote decided to go out with his horse, Rocinante, to redress all the wrongs and help those in need as the knights errant in those stories he cherished. He first went to an inn, where the innkeeper dubbed him a knight. Don Quixote was found hurt by a man of his village and taken back. Don Quixote s niece, the priest, and the barber of his village blamed those books for his craziness so they burned them. Don Quixote decided to start a second expedition now with the company of his neighbor Sancho Panza as his squire, and promising Sancho that he would become the governor of an insula. Sancho was by nature a coward and quite fainthearted, he was illiterate but a ludicrous character. Their first adventure together was the encounter with the windmills which don Quixote thought were giants, suffice it to say he ended beaten on the ground. Don Quixote now called himself the Woebegone Knight and Sancho was reprimanded because of his absurd linking of proverbs. After many travails, they arrived to Sierra Morena where don Quixote ... Toyota Unintended Acceleration Case Study A Case Study on Toyota Unintended Acceleration Toyota s Unintended Acceleration disaster could have been avoided if the software engineers had practiced proper software development steps. Numerous lessons, both technical and managerial can be learned from this software catastrophe. Three crucial lessons include: ensuring the proper implementation of fail safes, adherence to rigorous coding standards (MISRA C), and minimizing software complexity. The first incident of unwanted acceleration occurred in 2003. However, this was not reported to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) until five years later. And it was not until 2004 that the NHTSA actively began investigating certain Toyota models. These investigations were eventually deemed inconclusive due to the lack of resources (rather than actual evidence) to investigate further (Bagnara, 2014). Over the next three years a series of investigations open up, but once again have been deemed inconclusive due to lack of administrative resources (Bagnara, 2014). In 2007, the acceleration issues are associated with faulty floor mats getting caught beneath the pedals causing the vehicle to accelerate uncontrollable. Toyota begins issuing recalls soon after. Two years later, a fatal accident occurs involving the death of four people which was again linked to defective floor mats. However, it was quickly becoming evident that not all the fault can be blamed on floor mats. In 2010, Toyota reveals that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The crisis around HIV/AIDS generated numerous myths which may or may not have been considered sexual, but the most devastating was the revision of the myth that God hated fags. As one can see, my sexuality at an early age was wrapped up in politics, religious proclamations, and fear. It was only when I assimilated myself in a community of gay people that I truly understood that the myth based rhetoric was wrong and damaging to my well being. SCI victims had no hope for a normalized future and were confined to wheelchairs and experienced poor survival rates because of the demands of care. Advancements in emergency care and rehabilitation practices increase neurological function to the spine which has increased the SCI victim s changes of survival and return to normal locomotion. The spinal column can be divided into 31 segments and comprise seven cervical, twelve thoracic, five lumbar and five sacral vertebral segments which protect the spinal cord (Sarhan, et al. p. 319 320). The nerves of the spinal column relay biological information to and from the brain by ascending and descending tracts. A SCI occurs when acute trauma is generated to the spinal cord. Significant pathology and pathophysiology damage blocks communication between the brain and the rest of the body. A person s motor skills, autonomic functions, and sensations are affected by the initial injury. The higher the injury occurs on the spinal column, the more dysfunctional the person may become. The primary injury determines a given patient s neurologic grade on admission and thereby is the strongest prognostic indicator (Dumont, Okonkwo, Verma, Hurlbert, Boulos, Ellegala, Dumont, 2001 p. 254). Relationship Between Crime And Criminology INTRODUCTION Criminology is the study of crime from a social perspective: the causes of crime, the social impact of crime, and the criminals involved in the crime. Criminologists study criminology in an attempt to better understand what motivates the criminal to act in a criminal manner. The criminal law is a kind of law that controls the offense committed against society. Criminal law should be distinguished from the civil law. For example, if someone is stealing, then the criminal law will be used to control or manage the thief. Investigations, arrests and indictments will be made in accordance with the criminal law. This contrast is due to a certain simplification which ignores the mutual dependence between criminal law and criminology. Even though criminology in principle is a descriptive, empirical and non normative science, the subject of its investigations cannot be defined without criteria that rest upon social evaluations.
