your friend and meet new people.
Dinner is more formal than usual meals.
Business lunch and dinner

In business it is important to connect with people. Lunch
and dinner are good ways to get to know the client.
Host usually buys a meal for the client in a restaurant
that they have chosen.
When eating you must remember the proper etiquette
for the situation.
Hosted dinner

Thank host for the invite.
Remember to tell if you can´t come.
Inform the host if you have allergies or special diet.
Dress for the situation. If there is no special dress code in
the invite, use your sense.
When meeting shake hands with the host.
Small talk
- Be prepared to discuss the host country.
- Avoid religion and highly personal topics.
Remember to thank the host after dinner.

Order something suitable for the moment.

- What other people are going to eat?

Eat what is offered and when it´s offered.
Hold fork in your left hand and knife in right.
Keep both hands above the table.
Use utensils from the outside in.

When you finish place utensils parallel to each other
resting diagonally at the 10 and 4 position with the knife
blade facing in.

Rest position is an inverted V with tines down

Reach for things in the table, ask person
sitting next to you can he/she give it to you.
Clank your chair or utensils against the
plate.
Cough towards the table or other people.
Eat before everyone else has their servings.
Leave the table in the middle of the dinner or
before you are allowed to.

  • 1. Dinner • • Dinners are great ways to spend time with your friend and meet new people. Dinner is more formal than usual meals.
  • 2. Business lunch and dinner • • • In business it is important to connect with people. Lunch and dinner are good ways to get to know the client. Host usually buys a meal for the client in a restaurant that they have chosen. When eating you must remember the proper etiquette for the situation.
  • 3. Hosted dinner • • • • • • • Thank host for the invite. Remember to tell if you can´t come. Inform the host if you have allergies or special diet. Dress for the situation. If there is no special dress code in the invite, use your sense. When meeting shake hands with the host. Small talk - Be prepared to discuss the host country. - Avoid religion and highly personal topics. Remember to thank the host after dinner.
  • 4. Eating and drinking • • Follow your host’s lead. Order something suitable for the moment. - How many courses are you going to eat? - What other people are going to eat? • • • • - Lunch or dinner? Eat what is offered and when it´s offered. Hold fork in your left hand and knife in right. Keep both hands above the table. Use utensils from the outside in.
  • 5. • • When you finish place utensils parallel to each other resting diagonally at the 10 and 4 position with the knife blade facing in. Rest position is an inverted V with tines down
  • 6. Dinner broadly 1. Toast 2. Sitting to the table 3. Host’s welcoming speech 4. First course 5. Main course 6. Speech(?) 7. Dessert
  • 7. Don´t do this: • • • • • Reach for things in the table, ask person sitting next to you can he/she give it to you. Clank your chair or utensils against the plate. Cough towards the table or other people. Eat before everyone else has their servings. Leave the table in the middle of the dinner or before you are allowed to.
