It is well known that an effective PMO is key to successful and efficient program and project execution. In other words, doing things “right”. Enterprise Architecture is the discipline that plans and monitors enterprise transformation and aligns the business strategy with information technology capabilities. In other words, doing the “right things” to support the business.
Why is it organizations despite having both of these disciplines still struggle with effective enterprise transformation? What can we done to use these disciplines more effectively to effect better business outcomes? What are the roles of each discipline and how do they work together to create business value?
In this presentation, Riaz will address these questions and will provide real life examples that can help build a strong relationship between the PMO and Enterprise Architecture.
Learning Objectives:
• How to build a strong relationship between the PMO and Enterprise Architecture (EA) to deliver positive outcomes for your organization
• Identify the different roles and functions of the PMO and EA as well as their similarities

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.

"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.

A BearingPoint Accelerator
BearingPoint has developed a comprehensive
approach to deal with large workspace outfit
projects, managed as real “transformation” projects
involving major changes around work modes,
workspaces and IT/digital equipment.
The proposed approach is based on a holistic view
involving at least three dimensions: HR, real estate
and IT. It is aimed for corporations ready to seize
any opportunity to lead a transformation in terms
of work modes and workspace.

Market Drivers
Over the last 5 years we have seen a huge change in the
technology we use at work. Mostly imported by new
generations, the use of smartphones and tablets has
overridden the use of PCs
Accelerated by the increasing use of collaboration tools
and enterprise social network, this trend has changed
people’s mentality, those who tend to consider the
workplace as one of the components of their
workspace, such as home, co-working areas, Starbuck,
airports, trains stations, etc.
The traditional workplace tends to be redesigned taking
into account a highly mobile workforce, collaboration
spaces and co-working offices
As a result, our aim is to make any workspace outfit
project not just a simple relocation or a real-estate
project, but a real “transformation” through a win-win
approach for all, benefiting from all the possibilities
above
A dedicated and adapted
workspace is available for
each type of activity The most creative

Our Approach
Challenges
The 6 main stakes of “digital workspace”:
Value Proposition
• To meet these challenges, BearingPoint has developed a holistic approach based on the evolution of work modes and workspaces, built upon three
dimensions (HR, real estate and IT) that are part of the key fields of the BearingPoint expertise
• Our approach has been successfully tested on two major recent projects, based on an early maturity level assessment to caliber work modes and
workspace concepts and changes to implement, combined with an adequate change management strategy
1. HR and wellbeing
at work
• Promote wellbeing
• Foster the need to
get together
• Offer both a
workspace and a
social space
• Facilitate new work
modes
• Attract and retain
“talents” with modern
workspaces that
meet their needs
2. Exchange and
transversality
• Allow informal
exchanges and
meetings
• Facilitate project
mode
• Stimulate mobility
3. Company image
• Convey a new image:
innovative company
• Reinforce the
company image
4. Creativity and
Innovation
• Facilitate the
development of
innovative practices
(digital)
• Develop a “connected
environment”
5. Open to the
outside world
• Personalize greater
openness to the
outside world
6. Finance
• Reduce recurrent real
estate costs

Our Approach
Involve all the stakeholders from project inception and liaise with the work council and the occupiers in order to facilitate
transparency through a participative approach
Build and implement a
communication
assumed by the top
management for all
occupiers
Communicate upfront on the strategic reasons of the “transformation”
and involve the work-council very early in the project
Organize regular
participative workshops,
for each type of
occupiers, especially the
managers
Inform on the project
progress and anticipate
the impact on daily
performance and
wellbeing at work
Monitor people
satisfaction, share the
lessons learned, and
evaluate unmet
expectations
Participation
and buy-up from
all occupiers
Organize project

Build the “to be”
work modes and
workspaces
Implement
Share the
lessons learned
A participative mode is a good lever to turn a
“transformation” project into a real collective project:
• By gathering around a sponsor and a leader all the
stakeholders (either HR, real estate or IT),
• By involving the work council and the occupiers, in
order to get their buy-up very early in the project

Our Approach
Design the « transformation » over several dimensions: from the office desk to teleworking
If the “transformation” seems more obvious in the

Client Benefits
The workplace transformation: a holistic approach
A multidimensional transformation to monitor carefully
The “transformation” involved by the digital workplace cannot be
approached through a unique perspective; several dimensions need to
be addressed simultaneously in an integrated way. Mostly around the
business, HR, real state and IT dimensions the digital workplace
transformation appears to be transverse across organizations through
a holistic view
Client benefits
The transition to the new workplace era is strewn with pitfalls and can
lead to chaos if the transformation is not monitored on every aspect.
The complexity of the changes involved by this evolution is such, that
one has to first identify and understand these changes, in order to be
able to assess them and then address them
As a result the two main benefits driven by a holistic approach, as
practiced by BearingPoint, can be summarized by:
• A workspace project: a real “transformation” project that
reinvigorates the company’s morale and dynamics
• A successful result by addressing all the dimensions of the equation
