Digitalization is one of the shaping factors of today’s economy. Thereby, the creation and use of data has emerged as an omnipres-
ent topic for top management. In theory, data just needs to be collected and monetized to bring benefits to both buyers and sellers.
However, the latest research shows that only 0.5% of available data is analyzed. Therefore, various organizations fail to take advan-
tage of the value of data today. Access and transparency of data remain a problem. Additionally, data is not structured and it is
difficult to work with, which results in huge individual and manual efforts. Even though modern algorithms are rapidly progressing,
they are far from replacing the human brain completely. Several factors and interdisciplinary connections are necessary, which leaves
the human brain in the center of the insight generation process. While experts find patterns and insights, most people are alienated
by databases and huge excel files. There is expertise within companies in order to find patterns and insights, but the relevant ques-
tion is how to enable and empower those knowledge carriers to work with the data.
Thus, in order to ease the process of working with data, the means of interaction need to be changed. This is the reason why we
promote visual analytics. New tools allow to quickly create and adapt dashboards faster than ever before. The simplicity and intui-
tive use of dashboards also allows sharing results within the organization. One of the biggest advantages is the real-time display of
the latest data. Not only does it remove the need for time intensive and repetitive analyses, it also allows employees, on all levels, to
quickly react to changes in the market. Step by step this will change the way data is managed and perceived in huge organizations,
while at the same time revealing significant insights.
