web presence, and Search Engine Optimization. Being successful in these areas will ensure the longevity of
your business by a steady stream of new clients. The guide consists of a the following components:
• Brand Sentiment: Your brand sentiment will analyze your audience’s opinion to-
wards your brand.
• Social Media Plan: This plan will layout a six-month long comprehensive strategy to
boost your online presence.
• Usability: The usability document is an assessment of your website’s ease-of-use and
how the user feels about the experience.
• Search Engine Optimization Audit: This audit explores how your website is viewed
by search engines and its users.
2.Brand Sentiments
In order to get a grasp on what your audience sees when they perform a Google search, we have listed the results
of the first five pages of search results. We searched “Laura Brightwood Therapist”. The status section displays if
you own the content, if you influence the information provided, or if you control the information provided.
Summary
Having a social media plan is a valuable attribute to your practice. Understanding its
importance is even more valuable. This social media plan is important to you for the
following reasons:
Provides an online presence for clients to find you: Because of the sensitive nature of being a
therapist, there will not be a normal online interaction between you and your clients. By
posting regularly to social media sites, new clients who are searching for providers will be able
to find you easily.
Provides you with a stage to have an authoritative voice: The articles and information that you
share provides the perfect opportunity to assert your knowledge to your audience. By showing
that you have an authoritative voice, future clients will trust you enough to book an
appointment and current clients will continue to come back.
Provides online resources for future therapy clients: Posting articles and informative pieces
can help future clients realize their potential need for therapy. Also, sharing information on
public social networks will provide more search results.
Now that you understand the importance of having a social media plan, we will describe how
to listen to your audience on social media. Afterwards, we will explain what we feel your
social media goals should be and lastly the tools and processes you should use.
3. Social Media Plan
Social Listening
Blogs and websites

source for you to find articles that would be relevant to your audience. The Good Therapy blog is updated
multiple times a day with new content on living and working with mental health issues. Use this website as a

and Family Sciences. She has been writing the blog since 2009, so there is a deep catalog of articles on family
therapy, childhood cognitive development, and parenting.

and social media presence. Anda Jines has been keeping this blog since 2009 and has a multitude of articles on
the different types of therapy, dealing with stress and anxiety, and treating depression. Her blog is also a good
source of article to link to on Twitter and Facebook.
Arttherapyblog.com – A great resource for images and articles that explain the benefits and focus of art thera-
py. The site provides ideas for activities, related quotes, and resources for how art therapy can be used in com-
bination with other treatments. Keep this website in mind when looking for images and quotes that will draw in
your audience.
KatieMalinski.com/blog – Katie is an LCSW from Austin, Texas who has created a social media presence
that is both professional and personal. She uses experiences from her life to bring her audience into the realm
of mental health treatment. Her focus is mostly on parenting and childhood topics, but her blog features a wide
spectrum of articles that would be relevant to your audience.
Twitter
@mindcharity – Mind Charity is a charity organization, in England and Wales, that focuses on providing advice
and support to people experiencing mental health issues. Their Twitter Feed pulls together articles from blog-
gers, organizations, and charity events that are working to promote and care for individuals with mental health
issues.

through the United States that are influencing the field of social work and mental health. They also lead numer-
ous Twitter Chats that provide an opportunity for you to have your voice heard on a national level.

tal health expert. Julie has created a Twitter presence as an authority in the field by posting articles and quotes
relevant to her occupation, and by interacting with other authorities through comments and retweeting.

Twitter Feed to drive her audience to her website and blog by providing a one or two sentence summary of the
article with a link and hashtag. She also establishes herself as an authority by tweeting a mix of original and
curated tweets related to mental health care.
@MikeLICSW – Mike Langlois’ tweets focus on the use of technology and creativity in therapy and social
work. Mike uses a mix of professional and personal tweets to establish himself as an authority and to relate to
his clients.
Social Media Goals
Post to Facebook 2x per week
These should be in-depth posts that review an article, discuss recent events in the Chapel Hill area, or share new
information relevant to your audience. The focus here should be putting out a consistent message on a regular
schedule. You will build trust with your audience by providing them with high quality, consistent posts rather
than frequent shorter posts. Building trust with your audience makes them more likely to share your post and
business information with friends and family, which will help grow your client base.
Your Facebook post should focus on providing resources to potential clients. These bi-weekly Facebook posts
are also an area where you can work with local organizations within the same field. Use an occasional post to
highlight an organization in the Chapel Hill area that focus on mental health or social work. This type of post
will help expand your social media influence to like-minded individuals in the same area.
Tweet once a day
At least once a day, you should be sharing an interesting article, quote, or image on your Twitter. These should
be original tweets, that have not been retweeted from a different organization. Tweeting daily proves to your
audience that you are actively involved in the mental health industry and focused on providing them with re-
sources for understanding the field. Your focus on Twitter should be interacting with your current client base.
Concentrate on current events and trends that are related to your practice. Your tweets will be more successful if
you include an attention-grabbing image in addition to the 140 characters.
Do not auto-connect your Facebook and Twitter Accounts
It is very important not to automatically publish the same posts at the same frequency to both social networks.
Facebook and Twitter are completely different in nature. Facebook is more personal and provides an intimate
environment to communicate with your audience. Twitter, on the other hand, is a lot more informal and encour-
ages frequent , shorter posts to appeal to a much larger, loosely connected network. Given how unique these
social networks are, the expectations of your audience will in turn, differ across networks. It is necessary for
you to meet these expectations by making sure that your posts and interaction methods correspond to the specif-
ic network you are using at the time. Neglecting to do so will most likely result in a stagnant following.
Retweet from an authority figure 3x per week
Throughout the week, follow what fellow LCSWs and organizations are talking about. When you find a tweet
that grabs your attention, retweet it to your audience. This helps establish yourself as an authority and puts you
on the radar of other authority figures. These types of tweets are important when interacting with colleagues. It
helps keep you apprised of changes in the field and lets your colleagues know that you are aware of their work.
Retweeting from an authority figure also proves to your audience that you are relevant in the field and keeping
on top of new developments.
In the Social Listening portion of this document, we provided you with a few Twitter accounts that are a great
place to gather content to Retweet. There are several important factors to understand when it comes to
retweeting:
• If you want to simply retweet someone’s entire tweet, you can just click the Retweet
icon.
• You can also add a comment to the retweet as well. Just be mindful to stay within 140
characters. You don’t want to use truncated tweets because it prevents your audience
from getting the entire message at one glance.
• You can also quote someone instead of retweeting their entire message. The common
way of doing this is by adding “(via @PersonYouAreQuoting)” at the end of the tweet.
This is a good option to use if you would like to add a personal comment about an
article that someone tweeted. It should include the article that your are referencing.
Again, be mindful to stay within 140 characters.
You can use this method to quote the original source as well, rather than simply retweeting.
Use Trending Hashtags
When creating a tweet, study what related hashtags
are trending. Including trending hashtags will help
get your tweets seen by a wider audience. A relevant
hashtag will help your tweets be curated in the search
and improve your social media strength. Trending
hashtags can easily be found on the left side on the
twitter interface. The trends that you see are tailored
specifically for you and are based on the accounts you
follow and your location. Therefore, It is important
to follow more accounts associated with therapy and
other related fields in order to easily take advantage
of relevant trending hashtags. In addition to including
these hashtags in your own posts, retweeting others
who are using these hashtags is also beneficial to
expanding your audience.
Complete Facebook post with a call to action
Use your Facebook post to drive traffic to your website and business. At the end of each post create a call to
action message that directs your audience to your website or directly through a telephone number. This allows
potential clients to understand your services in greater detail. A call to action should be short and provide an
active link for the audience to follow.
Process/Tools/ Measurement
It is important to connect with other individuals and organizations on social media that have maintained their
relevance and authority in your field. You can do so by frequently reacting to their published content in a timely
fashion. On Twitter, a simple retweet, favorite, quoted tweet or mention aimed directly at a fellow therapist who
has shared valuable and relevant information will make your online presence known and increase traffic to your
page. Since communicating directly to clients and potential clients is not appropriate on social media, seeking
out listening indicators is key to understanding how successfully you are communicating with your audience.
Listening indicators include shares, likes, retweets, and any other form of interaction that make it clear that your
content is reaching your audience.
The tools that you should utilize are Buffer and TweetDeck. Through Buffer, you can submit content all at
once, which will then be automatically posted throughout the day or week on the social media platform of your
choice. Thanks to Buffer, you will not have to set timers on your phone or sit at your computer for long periods
of time just to make sure you are posting regularly. On Buffer, you can submit 7 tweets at once and Buffer will
post them throughout the week. Buffer also provides more analytical information than the social media sites
themselves. Through Buffer, you will be able to know the exact number of people that clicked on your link.
For more details on using the Buffer app, refer to Appendix A
TweetDeck allows you to create custom timelines and organize searches and activity to easily keep up with
specific topics. Therefore, it will be quite easy to stay on top of trends relative to therapy by making your time-
line more therapy- focused. TweetDeck will be a great way to easily view tweets, hashtags and mentions from
fellow therapists and other organizations/ blogs relative to therapy.
For more details on using Tweetdeck, refer to Appendix B
As you grow your audience it is important to use these tools to measure the level of engagement. This includes
the number of people that interact with your content whether it be retweeting a link or sharing a post. Over the
next six months we would like to focus on achieving 40 likes and 3 comments per Facebook Post. On Twitter, we
believe the increased activity will help you achieve 10 favorites and 1 retweet per Tweet.
Evaluation Plan
After six months of following the social media plan we prescribed in this document, you should review your
before and after measurements to see if you have met your Key Performance Indicators (KPI). KPIs evaluate
how effectively a business is achieving its goals. We have come up with 5 KPIs that you can use to measure the
success of this plan.
• Increase Facebook likes to 1000.
• Increase Twitter followers to 350.
• Average Facebook post engagement of 40 likes and three comments. (This means
that most of your Facebook posts should receive an average of 40 likes and three
comments for each post. )
• Increase customer base by 15%.
• Improve rankings within Google search.
Once the six month period is over, you should analyze the growth of your twitter following and determine
whether or not your target number of followers has been met. If you have achieved your KPIs, you should
determine if you want to adjust them to match a new goal. If you have not met them, it may be time to
re-evaluate the KPIs and set them at a more attainable goal. This will also be the time to determine if you
followed the plan in a committed fashion.
4. Usability Analysis
In general, your website is has an easy-to-use layout and the navigation is in a prominent location. In order to
stand out from the rest of the text, the navigation could be improved by changing the color of the links. The
header and footer could also be reduced in size to ensure visitors have optimum viewing space. All of the
information that a potential client would need is available on the website. However, some of the content on the
website makes its purpose a bit confusing and cluttered. It would be a good idea to separate the art business
from the therapy business for both usability and Search Engine Optimization purposes.
Overview
Page Speed and Usability Analysis
In order to test the speed of laurabrightwoodlcsw.com, we used Google’s PageSpeed Insights. According to this
tool, your website scored at 68/100 for speed on mobile and 78/100 speed on desktop. The page speed result
should be addressed immediately as over 50% of searches happen on mobile. A slow site speed can also have a
negative effect on search results. Listed below are some concerns you should address, preferably with a profes-
sional web developer, on your page:
• Optimize images:Optimizing images for the web makes them smaller in size. A
smaller image will load faster. (Read more at: https://developers.google.com/speed/
docs/insights/OptimizeImages)
• Remove Render Blocking JavaScript and CSS: Some information on your page
could not be rendered until some JavaScript and CSS were loaded. (Read more at:
https://developers.google.com/speed/docs/insights/BlockingJS)
• Minify CSS and JavaScript: Minifying your website code makes the files smaller,
which in turn, will make the website load faster.
A lot of the speed issues with your website are due in part to Wix’s framework. It would be worth working with
Wix to solve some of these issues. The overall recommendation would be to have your page rebuilt by a profes-
sional web developer.
Laurabrightwoodlcsw.com received a usability score of 98/100. This score is great and there are only a few
areas of improvement.
• Configure the viewport: Right now your website is mobile friendly, but some
mobile devices may not load the website correctly. (Read more at: https://develop-
ers.google.com/speed/docs/insights/ConfigureViewport)
• Make mobile links and clickable elements larger. Some of the links on your website
are a bit small. Consider making these larger for ease-of-use on mobile.
Content/Layout
In normal web practices, the logo image on a web page links back to the homepage. On your homepage, it links
to the contact page. For the average user, this could be confusing. Also, the images on the page the page do not
have alt tags. Alt tags assist with search engine optimization. Read more at http://www.w3schools.com/tags/
att_img_alt.asp.
Task Assessment
Find a list of services
Finding the list of services was a little challenging. “Together we can find a better path” as well as the “About
Laura” link will take the visitor to a comprehensive list of services. It may be best to change the About Laura to
a page about Laura’s credentials and add a link solely for a list of services.
Find office hours
There were no available hours on the website. This could be listed in the footer of the website.
Find contact information
The contact information is easily found in the footer of the page. It is display prominently and is in a place
where contact information is usually found.
5. Search Engine Optimization Audit
We looked at your website’s infrastructure and conducted a search engine optimization (SEO) audit to
understand how Laura Brightwood LCSW is viewed and used by search engines. The SEO audit also allows
us to analyze if your website is reaching its target audience throughout Chapel Hill and the surrounding area.
This audit will look at several aspects of your websites infrastructure that impact your SEO results. We will go
through the current state of your website, provide an explanation for each element, and give suggestions for how
to strengthen your websites infrastructure.
Link Accessibility

The accessibility of links throughout your website is vital to a users navigation. Link accessibility answers how
effectively a users can move throughout your website without having to use the browsers back button to
navigate.
The current navigation is accessible and does not result in dead ends for the user. The main navigation is clearly
label and the links are pointed at appropriate URLs. The navigation and internal links are all functioning and
point to working URLs.
While the navigation and links are functioning, we do have some suggestions for the usability of the links. Cur-
rently, the links throughout your website do not change states or have any distinguishing features of a working
link. We suggest that you add a hover effect to links when a user places a mouse over them. A hover effect
would change the color or underline the link text when moused over. An example of this would be the “Artwork
by Laura Brightwood” link that changes from tan to black when the mouse is placed over the box.
Number of Clicks – Depth of Architecture
The depth of architecture is how many clicks it takes to navigate though each page of your website. When a
search engine is examining your website it is looking at how it can move through your website from the home-
page. If a search engine cannot reach a page within a few clicks or cannot find the page at all, the information
from that section of your website will not be read and used by the search engine. The key to site architecture is
that the least number of clicks is the best option.
The website, LauraBrightwoodLCSW.com does not have to worry about the number of clicks. Every page
within the website can be reached in one click from the homepage navigation. The navigation bar is the same on
every page and there is no need to click through multiple links to reach new information, which is good. We see
no need for improvement in the depth of architecture.
Alt Text Used Wisely
Alternative text, commonly referred to as alt text, is used to describe the nature and contents of an image file
when the image cannot be displayed. Providing alt text for images increases the accessibility of your website
by providing a fallback for users who are visually impaired or for users whose Internet connection may not be
able to display images. Adding alt-text to your images also improves your SEO by allowing the search engine to
“see” your images.
An audit of your website reveals that only a few images have corresponding alt-text descriptions and that many
of the alt-text description are related to art rather than your therapy business. The most commonly used alt-text
description on your website is “original artwork by Laura Brightwood”. Only two images have alt-text
descriptions relating to your practice using the keywords “depression help” and “Durham therapy”. To increase
your SEO potential we suggest that you update the current alt-text descriptions and add alt-text to the remaining
images on your website.
As your current website is built through WIX, the adding of alt descriptions is an easy process. Through WIX,
alt descriptions can be added in the settings of your website by providing image titles and alt description.
The alt-text should be short and should incorporate keywords related to your business. For best results, the
description should be between 5 and 10 words that convey the meaning of the image and its relation to your
therapy practice. When using keywords, it is important to avoid search engine penalties.
Example 1: “Durham Therapy Chapel Hill Therapy Laura Brightwood Art
Therapy”
Example 2: “Enjoy life bird Laura Brightwood Chapel Hill Depression Therapy”
The first example would get you penalized by a search engine. The alt-text offers no context of what is in the
image or why it is relevant to your website. This type of alt-text is referred to as keyword stuffing and will
negatively influence your SEO. The second example utilizes keywords but also provides information about the
nature of the image. It gives a brief description of what is in the picture, provides a location and name of your
business, and explains what type of therapy the image is related to. We suggest that you go through your web-
site and provide this type of rich and relevant alt-text for each image.
Constructive Navigation
Using your website should be easy and intuitive to a user. Complicated navigation and information that does not
fit with the purpose of the website often detract from the users experience and negatively affect the usability of
the site. Your website should be agile, well designed, and follow general user practices to be most effective.
The audit of you site reveals that the navigation is easy to use, however there are some area for improvement
to make the navigation more user friendly. The current navigation bar takes up 1/3 of a standard desktop screen
and nearly half of the mobile screen. While the large text is easy to read, it moves most of your information
below the fold, which means that the user needs to scroll down to read about your business. We suggest that you
make the header and navigation bar shorter so that more of the information about your company is visible on
the top-half of the website.
Another aspect that we suggest changing is the URL attached to your logo. The current logo of the “enjoy life”
bird is linked to your contact page, however most users expect a logo to return them to the home page. We sug-
gest making this change to conform to the user’s expectations.
On a similar note, the “contact me” link in your first section of text next to the image gallery opens up a separate
mail application. Many users will expect this link to take them directly to the contact page. We suggest changing
this link the take users to the contact page and placing a link for a mail application on this page instead.
-- Direct this link to the
‘Contact Me’ page
In the footer of your website, you have a section dedicate to
your art portfolio. When clicked on, these photos take the
user away from your website to your Artist Website profile.
We suggest removing this section from your website to help
narrow down the focus of your website to your
therapy practice. It is our belief that this section of your
website will confuse the user about the nature of your
business and the keywords detract from your SEO. All of
the images are linked through a URL and have
associated alt-text referring to art and not to therapy.
Consolidating the focus of your website and
removing the associations with your Artist Website profile
will help to increase your SEO profile as a therapist.
Appropriate URLs
The URL is the address you type into the browser to reach a specific website. For you the URL of your website
is www.laurabrightwoodlcsw.com. There are several factors when choosing URLs that will influence your SEO
rating. The URL should be short, describe your website, follow the same structure on each page, and should be
case sensitive.
An audit of your URL structure using the Screaming Frog SEO software reveals that all of your links are with-
in 115 characters and none of them are duplicates, which is good. The issue associated with the URLs on your
website comes from the WIX navigation structure. WIX has added characters to your URLs that makes them
harder for a search engine to read.
			http://www.laurabrightwoodlcsw.com/#!contact/con8
You can see here that the WIX structure has added #! Before the name of your page and has added additional
characters at the end of the URL that have no meaning to a user or a search engine. As of April 2015 users are
unable to alter the structure of a WIX URL due to the programming language that WIX uses to build your
website. Our suggestion is to periodically check to see if WIX has made custom URLs available to its users and
to customize each page link if this feature is added.
Page Titles
A page title is a unique description for each page of your website and one of the most important factors in your
SEO ranking results. A page title should be unique, between 30 and 65 characters, and should use a keyword
that will be repeated somewhere in the text of the page.

The review of page titles within your website reveals that all of the page titles are within the specified number
of characters, but that of the 69 page titles used, only 2 page titles are unique. The high volume of duplicate
page titles is negatively impacting your SEO results and need to be altered.
Most of the duplicate page titles are related to the original artwork used throughout your website. Our audit
revealed that 62 out of 67 duplicate page titles are the titles of your artwork as they appear in different windows
throughout the website. As we suggested previously, we would like the see the footer section of artwork
removed from your website, which will eliminate ½ of the duplicated page titles.
The remaining 5 instances of page title duplicates are related to the different pages of your navigation. Every
page on your website uses the page title “Laura Brightwood, LCSW Chapel Hill Therapist”. This title is
appropriate for the home page, but we suggest that you alter the title for the ‘About Laura’, ‘Therapy’, ‘Fees
and Insurance’, and ‘Contact’ pages. Here are some suggestion for unique page titles.
You can update the individual page title information by going to the Pages section of your WIX editor. Click on
Pages and then click on the settings icon next to each page to access the individual SEO and page title
information.
Meta Descriptions
A meta tag is a description of the contents of a web page that is used by a search engine to index a page to
match a users search query. There are several types of meta tags, the two most important being meta tag
keywords and mega tag descriptions. While the meta description is not used directly in the search algorithm,
they make up the description on the page of search results returned by the search engine. Here is the current
meta description associated with your website:
• ‘About Laura’ : About Laura Brightwood
• ‘Therapy’: Therapy Services | Laura Brightwood, LCSW
• ‘Fees and Insurance’: Payment and Insurance Information
• ‘Contact’: Contact Laura Brightwood, LCSW
This meta description is related to the function of WIX as it builds your website. Our audit revealed that a meta
descrition has been set for your home page, but it is not the meta description that shows in search engine results.
We suggest that you follow the steps in this WIX tutorial to update the meta description of your site to include
more information about your therapy services.
Tutorial: http://www.wix.com/blog/2010/05/does-your-wix-have-a-title-and-description/
The audit shows that all of the images and pages within your website have meta descriptions, however 63 of the
meta descriptions are the external link to laura-brightwood.artistwebsites.com, which is not good for your SEO
ranking. With 63 meta description related to your artwork portfolio, the search engines are associating your
website with art rather than therapy. We suggest that you follow the following tutorial to set meta keyword tags
to each image on your site to associate them with therapy rather than your artist profile.
https://www.wix.com/support/html5/search-engine-optimization/seo-settings/kb/how-do-i-add-meta-tags-on
Header Tags
Header tags are used to emphasize text on your website to varying degrees from H1 to H6. A H1 tag is the most
important when it comes to SEO rankings and should not be skipped. The H1 tag should be used to emphasize
the page title rather than the overall website name. Each page of your website should have only one H1 tag, but
can use multiple H2 or H3 tags to include more keywords when your website is indexed.
Currently, your website utilizes 5 H1 tags and 3 H2 tags, which means not a lot of information is being marked
as significant by the search engines. The H1 tag refers to your header, which reads “Laura Brightwood, LCSW
Chapel Hill Therapist”. While this information is important, it is already read by the search engine in your page
title and in the meta tags and descriptions. We suggest that you use the H1 tag as a unique indicator of each
page. The following guide demonstrates how to set H1 tags within WIX: https://www.wix.com/support/html5/
search-engine-optimization/seo-settings/kb/adding-an-h1-tag
We suggest using H2 tags to highlight some of your features as a therapist and the relevant information on each
page. An example of this type of change would be to change the “working with thoughts”, “communication
skills”, and “understanding feelings” on the homepage to H2 tags. This keywords here match with the
information you are trying to emphasize to the search engines and the H2 tags will not be penalized for being
used multiple times on each page.
Duplicate Content
Duplicate content is content that is found in more than one place on your website and confuses the search
engine as to which is more relevant. Duplicate content has a negative effect on your SEO because the search
engine will either ignore one section of your website or penalize the entire site. It is important to avoid this
penalty because there is little that can be done to get back into good standings.
As we have mentioned in previous sections of the audit, your website has multiple duplicate meta tags and page
titles. We suggest that you create unique page titles and meta tags for each page and image within your website.
The use of rotating image gallery is also causing duplicate URLs for the carousel and for the larger image that
pops up. It would be best for SEO purposes to choose one static image for the home page to minimize the
duplicate URLs.
Conclusion
With the completion of this strategic plan, we are confident that you will see an increase in clients, an increased
ranking in search engines, and a successful online voice.

Summary Having a socialmedia plan is a valuable attribute to your practice. Understanding its importance is even more valuable. This social media plan is important to you for the following reasons: Provides an online presence for clients to find you: Because of the sensitive nature of being a therapist, there will not be a normal online interaction between you and your clients. By posting regularly to social media sites, new clients who are searching for providers will be able to find you easily. Provides you with a stage to have an authoritative voice: The articles and information that you share provides the perfect opportunity to assert your knowledge to your audience. By showing that you have an authoritative voice, future clients will trust you enough to book an appointment and current clients will continue to come back. Provides online resources for future therapy clients: Posting articles and informative pieces can help future clients realize their potential need for therapy. Also, sharing information on public social networks will provide more search results. Now that you understand the importance of having a social media plan, we will describe how to listen to your audience on social media. Afterwards, we will explain what we feel your social media goals should be and lastly the tools and processes you should use. 3. Social Media Plan

@LifeCare – LifeCareis a counseling service operated by Rhonda Kelloway. Kelloway uses the LifeCare Twitter Feed to drive her audience to her website and blog by providing a one or two sentence summary of the article with a link and hashtag. She also establishes herself as an authority by tweeting a mix of original and curated tweets related to mental health care. @MikeLICSW – Mike Langlois’ tweets focus on the use of technology and creativity in therapy and social work. Mike uses a mix of professional and personal tweets to establish himself as an authority and to relate to his clients. Social Media Goals Post to Facebook 2x per week These should be in-depth posts that review an article, discuss recent events in the Chapel Hill area, or share new information relevant to your audience. The focus here should be putting out a consistent message on a regular schedule. You will build trust with your audience by providing them with high quality, consistent posts rather than frequent shorter posts. Building trust with your audience makes them more likely to share your post and business information with friends and family, which will help grow your client base. Your Facebook post should focus on providing resources to potential clients. These bi-weekly Facebook posts are also an area where you can work with local organizations within the same field. Use an occasional post to highlight an organization in the Chapel Hill area that focus on mental health or social work. This type of post will help expand your social media influence to like-minded individuals in the same area. Tweet once a day At least once a day, you should be sharing an interesting article, quote, or image on your Twitter. These should be original tweets, that have not been retweeted from a different organization. Tweeting daily proves to your audience that you are actively involved in the mental health industry and focused on providing them with re- sources for understanding the field. Your focus on Twitter should be interacting with your current client base. Concentrate on current events and trends that are related to your practice. Your tweets will be more successful if you include an attention-grabbing image in addition to the 140 characters. Do not auto-connect your Facebook and Twitter Accounts It is very important not to automatically publish the same posts at the same frequency to both social networks. Facebook and Twitter are completely different in nature. Facebook is more personal and provides an intimate environment to communicate with your audience. Twitter, on the other hand, is a lot more informal and encour- ages frequent , shorter posts to appeal to a much larger, loosely connected network. Given how unique these social networks are, the expectations of your audience will in turn, differ across networks. It is necessary for you to meet these expectations by making sure that your posts and interaction methods correspond to the specif- ic network you are using at the time. Neglecting to do so will most likely result in a stagnant following. Retweet from an authority figure 3x per week Throughout the week, follow what fellow LCSWs and organizations are talking about. When you find a tweet that grabs your attention, retweet it to your audience. This helps establish yourself as an authority and puts you on the radar of other authority figures. These types of tweets are important when interacting with colleagues. It helps keep you apprised of changes in the field and lets your colleagues know that you are aware of their work. Retweeting from an authority figure also proves to your audience that you are relevant in the field and keeping on top of new developments.
  • 9.
In the SocialListening portion of this document, we provided you with a few Twitter accounts that are a great place to gather content to Retweet. There are several important factors to understand when it comes to retweeting: • If you want to simply retweet someone’s entire tweet, you can just click the Retweet icon. • You can also add a comment to the retweet as well. Just be mindful to stay within 140 characters. You don’t want to use truncated tweets because it prevents your audience from getting the entire message at one glance. • You can also quote someone instead of retweeting their entire message. The common way of doing this is by adding “(via @PersonYouAreQuoting)” at the end of the tweet. This is a good option to use if you would like to add a personal comment about an article that someone tweeted. It should include the article that your are referencing. Again, be mindful to stay within 140 characters.
  • 10.
You can usethis method to quote the original source as well, rather than simply retweeting. Use Trending Hashtags When creating a tweet, study what related hashtags are trending. Including trending hashtags will help get your tweets seen by a wider audience. A relevant hashtag will help your tweets be curated in the search and improve your social media strength. Trending hashtags can easily be found on the left side on the twitter interface. The trends that you see are tailored specifically for you and are based on the accounts you follow and your location. Therefore, It is important to follow more accounts associated with therapy and other related fields in order to easily take advantage of relevant trending hashtags. In addition to including these hashtags in your own posts, retweeting others who are using these hashtags is also beneficial to expanding your audience. Complete Facebook post with a call to action Use your Facebook post to drive traffic to your website and business. At the end of each post create a call to action message that directs your audience to your website or directly through a telephone number. This allows potential clients to understand your services in greater detail. A call to action should be short and provide an active link for the audience to follow.
  • 11.
Process/Tools/ Measurement It isimportant to connect with other individuals and organizations on social media that have maintained their relevance and authority in your field. You can do so by frequently reacting to their published content in a timely fashion. On Twitter, a simple retweet, favorite, quoted tweet or mention aimed directly at a fellow therapist who has shared valuable and relevant information will make your online presence known and increase traffic to your page. Since communicating directly to clients and potential clients is not appropriate on social media, seeking out listening indicators is key to understanding how successfully you are communicating with your audience. Listening indicators include shares, likes, retweets, and any other form of interaction that make it clear that your content is reaching your audience. The tools that you should utilize are Buffer and TweetDeck. Through Buffer, you can submit content all at once, which will then be automatically posted throughout the day or week on the social media platform of your choice. Thanks to Buffer, you will not have to set timers on your phone or sit at your computer for long periods of time just to make sure you are posting regularly. On Buffer, you can submit 7 tweets at once and Buffer will post them throughout the week. Buffer also provides more analytical information than the social media sites themselves. Through Buffer, you will be able to know the exact number of people that clicked on your link. For more details on using the Buffer app, refer to Appendix A TweetDeck allows you to create custom timelines and organize searches and activity to easily keep up with specific topics. Therefore, it will be quite easy to stay on top of trends relative to therapy by making your time- line more therapy- focused. TweetDeck will be a great way to easily view tweets, hashtags and mentions from fellow therapists and other organizations/ blogs relative to therapy. For more details on using Tweetdeck, refer to Appendix B As you grow your audience it is important to use these tools to measure the level of engagement. This includes the number of people that interact with your content whether it be retweeting a link or sharing a post. Over the next six months we would like to focus on achieving 40 likes and 3 comments per Facebook Post. On Twitter, we believe the increased activity will help you achieve 10 favorites and 1 retweet per Tweet. Evaluation Plan After six months of following the social media plan we prescribed in this document, you should review your before and after measurements to see if you have met your Key Performance Indicators (KPI). KPIs evaluate how effectively a business is achieving its goals. We have come up with 5 KPIs that you can use to measure the success of this plan. • Increase Facebook likes to 1000. • Increase Twitter followers to 350. • Average Facebook post engagement of 40 likes and three comments. (This means that most of your Facebook posts should receive an average of 40 likes and three comments for each post. ) • Increase customer base by 15%. • Improve rankings within Google search.
  • 12.
Once the sixmonth period is over, you should analyze the growth of your twitter following and determine whether or not your target number of followers has been met. If you have achieved your KPIs, you should determine if you want to adjust them to match a new goal. If you have not met them, it may be time to re-evaluate the KPIs and set them at a more attainable goal. This will also be the time to determine if you followed the plan in a committed fashion. 4. Usability Analysis In general, your website is has an easy-to-use layout and the navigation is in a prominent location. In order to stand out from the rest of the text, the navigation could be improved by changing the color of the links. The header and footer could also be reduced in size to ensure visitors have optimum viewing space. All of the information that a potential client would need is available on the website. However, some of the content on the website makes its purpose a bit confusing and cluttered. It would be a good idea to separate the art business from the therapy business for both usability and Search Engine Optimization purposes. Overview Page Speed and Usability Analysis In order to test the speed of laurabrightwoodlcsw.com, we used Google’s PageSpeed Insights. According to this tool, your website scored at 68/100 for speed on mobile and 78/100 speed on desktop. The page speed result should be addressed immediately as over 50% of searches happen on mobile. A slow site speed can also have a negative effect on search results. Listed below are some concerns you should address, preferably with a profes- sional web developer, on your page: • Optimize images:Optimizing images for the web makes them smaller in size. A smaller image will load faster. (Read more at: https://developers.google.com/speed/ docs/insights/OptimizeImages) • Remove Render Blocking JavaScript and CSS: Some information on your page could not be rendered until some JavaScript and CSS were loaded. (Read more at: https://developers.google.com/speed/docs/insights/BlockingJS) • Minify CSS and JavaScript: Minifying your website code makes the files smaller, which in turn, will make the website load faster. A lot of the speed issues with your website are due in part to Wix’s framework. It would be worth working with Wix to solve some of these issues. The overall recommendation would be to have your page rebuilt by a profes- sional web developer.
  • 13.
Laurabrightwoodlcsw.com received ausability score of 98/100. This score is great and there are only a few areas of improvement. • Configure the viewport: Right now your website is mobile friendly, but some mobile devices may not load the website correctly. (Read more at: https://develop- ers.google.com/speed/docs/insights/ConfigureViewport) • Make mobile links and clickable elements larger. Some of the links on your website are a bit small. Consider making these larger for ease-of-use on mobile. Content/Layout In normal web practices, the logo image on a web page links back to the homepage. On your homepage, it links to the contact page. For the average user, this could be confusing. Also, the images on the page the page do not have alt tags. Alt tags assist with search engine optimization. Read more at http://www.w3schools.com/tags/ att_img_alt.asp. Task Assessment Find a list of services Finding the list of services was a little challenging. “Together we can find a better path” as well as the “About Laura” link will take the visitor to a comprehensive list of services. It may be best to change the About Laura to a page about Laura’s credentials and add a link solely for a list of services. Find office hours There were no available hours on the website. This could be listed in the footer of the website. Find contact information The contact information is easily found in the footer of the page. It is display prominently and is in a place where contact information is usually found.

    5. Search EngineOptimization Audit We looked at your website’s infrastructure and conducted a search engine optimization (SEO) audit to understand how Laura Brightwood LCSW is viewed and used by search engines. The SEO audit also allows us to analyze if your website is reaching its target audience throughout Chapel Hill and the surrounding area. This audit will look at several aspects of your websites infrastructure that impact your SEO results. We will go through the current state of your website, provide an explanation for each element, and give suggestions for how to strengthen your websites infrastructure. Link Accessibility The accessibility of links throughout your website is vital to a users navigation. Link accessibility answers how effectively a users can move throughout your website without having to use the browsers back button to navigate. The current navigation is accessible and does not result in dead ends for the user. The main navigation is clearly label and the links are pointed at appropriate URLs. The navigation and internal links are all functioning and point to working URLs. While the navigation and links are functioning, we do have some suggestions for the usability of the links. Cur- rently, the links throughout your website do not change states or have any distinguishing features of a working link. We suggest that you add a hover effect to links when a user places a mouse over them. A hover effect would change the color or underline the link text when moused over. An example of this would be the “Artwork by Laura Brightwood” link that changes from tan to black when the mouse is placed over the box. Number of Clicks – Depth of Architecture The depth of architecture is how many clicks it takes to navigate though each page of your website. When a search engine is examining your website it is looking at how it can move through your website from the home- page. If a search engine cannot reach a page within a few clicks or cannot find the page at all, the information from that section of your website will not be read and used by the search engine. The key to site architecture is that the least number of clicks is the best option. The website, LauraBrightwoodLCSW.com does not have to worry about the number of clicks. Every page within the website can be reached in one click from the homepage navigation. The navigation bar is the same on every page and there is no need to click through multiple links to reach new information, which is good. We see no need for improvement in the depth of architecture. Alt Text Used Wisely Alternative text, commonly referred to as alt text, is used to describe the nature and contents of an image file when the image cannot be displayed. Providing alt text for images increases the accessibility of your website by providing a fallback for users who are visually impaired or for users whose Internet connection may not be able to display images. Adding alt-text to your images also improves your SEO by allowing the search engine to “see” your images.
  • 15.
An audit ofyour website reveals that only a few images have corresponding alt-text descriptions and that many of the alt-text description are related to art rather than your therapy business. The most commonly used alt-text description on your website is “original artwork by Laura Brightwood”. Only two images have alt-text descriptions relating to your practice using the keywords “depression help” and “Durham therapy”. To increase your SEO potential we suggest that you update the current alt-text descriptions and add alt-text to the remaining images on your website. As your current website is built through WIX, the adding of alt descriptions is an easy process. Through WIX, alt descriptions can be added in the settings of your website by providing image titles and alt description.
  • 16.
The alt-text shouldbe short and should incorporate keywords related to your business. For best results, the description should be between 5 and 10 words that convey the meaning of the image and its relation to your therapy practice. When using keywords, it is important to avoid search engine penalties. Example 1: “Durham Therapy Chapel Hill Therapy Laura Brightwood Art Therapy” Example 2: “Enjoy life bird Laura Brightwood Chapel Hill Depression Therapy” The first example would get you penalized by a search engine. The alt-text offers no context of what is in the image or why it is relevant to your website. This type of alt-text is referred to as keyword stuffing and will negatively influence your SEO. The second example utilizes keywords but also provides information about the nature of the image. It gives a brief description of what is in the picture, provides a location and name of your business, and explains what type of therapy the image is related to. We suggest that you go through your web- site and provide this type of rich and relevant alt-text for each image. Constructive Navigation Using your website should be easy and intuitive to a user. Complicated navigation and information that does not fit with the purpose of the website often detract from the users experience and negatively affect the usability of the site. Your website should be agile, well designed, and follow general user practices to be most effective. The audit of you site reveals that the navigation is easy to use, however there are some area for improvement to make the navigation more user friendly. The current navigation bar takes up 1/3 of a standard desktop screen and nearly half of the mobile screen. While the large text is easy to read, it moves most of your information below the fold, which means that the user needs to scroll down to read about your business. We suggest that you make the header and navigation bar shorter so that more of the information about your company is visible on the top-half of the website. Another aspect that we suggest changing is the URL attached to your logo. The current logo of the “enjoy life” bird is linked to your contact page, however most users expect a logo to return them to the home page. We sug- gest making this change to conform to the user’s expectations. On a similar note, the “contact me” link in your first section of text next to the image gallery opens up a separate mail application. Many users will expect this link to take them directly to the contact page. We suggest changing this link the take users to the contact page and placing a link for a mail application on this page instead. -- Direct this link to the ‘Contact Me’ page
  • 17.
In the footerof your website, you have a section dedicate to your art portfolio. When clicked on, these photos take the user away from your website to your Artist Website profile. We suggest removing this section from your website to help narrow down the focus of your website to your therapy practice. It is our belief that this section of your website will confuse the user about the nature of your business and the keywords detract from your SEO. All of the images are linked through a URL and have associated alt-text referring to art and not to therapy. Consolidating the focus of your website and removing the associations with your Artist Website profile will help to increase your SEO profile as a therapist. Appropriate URLs The URL is the address you type into the browser to reach a specific website. For you the URL of your website is www.laurabrightwoodlcsw.com. There are several factors when choosing URLs that will influence your SEO rating. The URL should be short, describe your website, follow the same structure on each page, and should be case sensitive. An audit of your URL structure using the Screaming Frog SEO software reveals that all of your links are with- in 115 characters and none of them are duplicates, which is good. The issue associated with the URLs on your website comes from the WIX navigation structure. WIX has added characters to your URLs that makes them harder for a search engine to read. http://www.laurabrightwoodlcsw.com/#!contact/con8 You can see here that the WIX structure has added #! Before the name of your page and has added additional characters at the end of the URL that have no meaning to a user or a search engine. As of April 2015 users are unable to alter the structure of a WIX URL due to the programming language that WIX uses to build your website. Our suggestion is to periodically check to see if WIX has made custom URLs available to its users and to customize each page link if this feature is added. Page Titles A page title is a unique description for each page of your website and one of the most important factors in your SEO ranking results. A page title should be unique, between 30 and 65 characters, and should use a keyword that will be repeated somewhere in the text of the page. The review of page titles within your website reveals that all of the page titles are within the specified number of characters, but that of the 69 page titles used, only 2 page titles are unique. The high volume of duplicate page titles is negatively impacting your SEO results and need to be altered. Most of the duplicate page titles are related to the original artwork used throughout your website. Our audit revealed that 62 out of 67 duplicate page titles are the titles of your artwork as they appear in different windows throughout the website. As we suggested previously, we would like the see the footer section of artwork removed from your website, which will eliminate ½ of the duplicated page titles.
  • 18.
The remaining 5instances of page title duplicates are related to the different pages of your navigation. Every page on your website uses the page title “Laura Brightwood, LCSW Chapel Hill Therapist”. This title is appropriate for the home page, but we suggest that you alter the title for the ‘About Laura’, ‘Therapy’, ‘Fees and Insurance’, and ‘Contact’ pages. Here are some suggestion for unique page titles. You can update the individual page title information by going to the Pages section of your WIX editor. Click on Pages and then click on the settings icon next to each page to access the individual SEO and page title information. Meta Descriptions A meta tag is a description of the contents of a web page that is used by a search engine to index a page to match a users search query. There are several types of meta tags, the two most important being meta tag keywords and mega tag descriptions. While the meta description is not used directly in the search algorithm, they make up the description on the page of search results returned by the search engine. Here is the current meta description associated with your website: • ‘About Laura’ : About Laura Brightwood • ‘Therapy’: Therapy Services | Laura Brightwood, LCSW • ‘Fees and Insurance’: Payment and Insurance Information • ‘Contact’: Contact Laura Brightwood, LCSW This meta description is related to the function of WIX as it builds your website. Our audit revealed that a meta descrition has been set for your home page, but it is not the meta description that shows in search engine results. We suggest that you follow the steps in this WIX tutorial to update the meta description of your site to include more information about your therapy services. Tutorial: http://www.wix.com/blog/2010/05/does-your-wix-have-a-title-and-description/ The audit shows that all of the images and pages within your website have meta descriptions, however 63 of the meta descriptions are the external link to laura-brightwood.artistwebsites.com, which is not good for your SEO ranking. With 63 meta description related to your artwork portfolio, the search engines are associating your website with art rather than therapy. We suggest that you follow the following tutorial to set meta keyword tags to each image on your site to associate them with therapy rather than your artist profile. https://www.wix.com/support/html5/search-engine-optimization/seo-settings/kb/how-do-i-add-meta-tags-on

Header Tags Header tagsare used to emphasize text on your website to varying degrees from H1 to H6. A H1 tag is the most important when it comes to SEO rankings and should not be skipped. The H1 tag should be used to emphasize the page title rather than the overall website name. Each page of your website should have only one H1 tag, but can use multiple H2 or H3 tags to include more keywords when your website is indexed. Currently, your website utilizes 5 H1 tags and 3 H2 tags, which means not a lot of information is being marked as significant by the search engines. The H1 tag refers to your header, which reads “Laura Brightwood, LCSW Chapel Hill Therapist”. While this information is important, it is already read by the search engine in your page title and in the meta tags and descriptions. We suggest that you use the H1 tag as a unique indicator of each page. The following guide demonstrates how to set H1 tags within WIX: https://www.wix.com/support/html5/ search-engine-optimization/seo-settings/kb/adding-an-h1-tag We suggest using H2 tags to highlight some of your features as a therapist and the relevant information on each page. An example of this type of change would be to change the “working with thoughts”, “communication skills”, and “understanding feelings” on the homepage to H2 tags. This keywords here match with the information you are trying to emphasize to the search engines and the H2 tags will not be penalized for being used multiple times on each page. Duplicate Content Duplicate content is content that is found in more than one place on your website and confuses the search engine as to which is more relevant. Duplicate content has a negative effect on your SEO because the search engine will either ignore one section of your website or penalize the entire site. It is important to avoid this penalty because there is little that can be done to get back into good standings. As we have mentioned in previous sections of the audit, your website has multiple duplicate meta tags and page titles. We suggest that you create unique page titles and meta tags for each page and image within your website. The use of rotating image gallery is also causing duplicate URLs for the carousel and for the larger image that pops up. It would be best for SEO purposes to choose one static image for the home page to minimize the duplicate URLs. Conclusion With the completion of this strategic plan, we are confident that you will see an increase in clients, an increased ranking in search engines, and a successful online voice.
