Photography is used in the fashion
industry because it shows what trends
and fashions are in at the time and
what clothes are available.
A famous fashion photographer is
Patrick Demarchelier who is French
and has taken photos for the covers of
the like of Elle, Vogue and Glamour. He
Has also taken photographs for the
likes of Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren and
Giorgio Armani. He takes either half
body or full body shots.
4. Music Industry
Photography is used in the music
business to promote an artist and
increase their profile in order to
become more successful.
Kevin Cummins is a famous music
photographer. Born in Manchester he
took a lot of pictures of artists
including; Oasis, Morrissey, U2 and
Mick Jagger. His images have said to
have been a factor of the rise of the
‘Britpop’ and ‘Cool Britannia’ phase in
the 90’s.
5. Sports Industry
Photography in the sports industry is
usually work for newspapers, major
wire agencies or dedicated sports
magazines. However, sports
photography is also used for
advertising purposes both to build a
brand and as well as to promote a
sport.
John G. Zimmerman, born in Canada,
was one of America's premier
magazine photographers. His most
famous work was for Sports Illustrated
magazine. Most of his pictures are in
black and white due to the period of
time he worked.
6. Photo journalism
Photo journalism is a particular form of
journalism that creates images in
order to tell a news story. It is now
usually understood to refer only to still
images. Photojournalists create
pictures that contribute to the news
media.
A famous photo journalist is Romano
Cagnoni who was Italian but spent
most of his professional career in
London. He specialed on war
photography and went on the frontline
in wars such as The Falklands war, the
Nigerian civil war and the Vietnam
war.
7. Fine Art Photography
Fine art photography is photography
created with the vision of the artist as
photographer. Fine art photography
stands in contrast to representation
photography, such as photojournalism,
which provides a documentary visual
account of specific subjects and
events, literally re-presenting objective
reality rather than the subjective
intent of the photographer; and
commercial photography, the primary
focus of which is to advertise products
or services.
Ansel Adams is a famous fine art
photographer. He specialised in
landscape photo’s in natural
environment.
