This document contains a production diary for an A2 Media Studies advanced portfolio. It summarizes the student's progress on creating a music video over several months. PROGRESS UPDATE PLAN FOR NEXT MONTH / WEEK(Including Possible
Contingency Plans If Problems Anticipated)
September 2012
(Detailed Monthly Summary)
At the start of this course we havebeen introduced to the course
topic and software that we will be using. The software that we
were introduced to was adobe premiere. After getting used to the
software we were matched up into groups, so that we then could
decide on whether we wanted to do a newspaper, music video or
short film. My group choose to do a music video. This is the month
we began to construct our ancillary products.
My plan for next month will to be continue working on
ancillary one and two and have finished researching for
these tasks.
October 2012

In October we continued to construct our ancillary tasks. By this
month I had completed ancillary one and nearly finished ancillary
two. This month I also looked into postmodern theories. By the
end of the month I had completed both ancillary products and
began researching information for my main piece.
Next month I will be focusing on my main piece
continuing to research and plan so that I can eventually
create a successful music video. In terms of postmodern
theories next month I will be looking at audience and
narrative theories. This will link into my music video task
through analysing how audiences perceive media texts
such as a music video or poster.
November 2012
(Detailed Monthly Summary)
Whilst in the November month we have continued to research and
plan for my main piece. My research consisted of me looking at
three music videos and analysing them using the main micro
aspects, ideologies and technical codes. We each choose different
artists to analyse for example I have chosen to analyse Taylor
Swift. These are pop artists which are useful to analyses as we
have decided to base our music video on the genre pop. We have
also started looking into the audience and narrative theories.
As we reach December we should have finished our
research so will concentrate on planning for my main
piece. One planning has been completed we should
then be starting to construct our main piece. A
questionnaire should also be created in this month.
December 2012

In this month I continued to work on my planning for my main
product for the first week but of the rest of the month I focused on
planning and constructing my music video. I have started creating a
storyboard to which I wanted my music video to look like and
began brainstorming my initial ideas on the mind genius software.
This month we also started to look at media language in
The next month will consist of me collecting my
questionnaire results and analysing how I can ensure my
music video links into this.

Mon W/B 07/01/13
(Detailed Weekly Summary)
I have collected the results for my questionnaire and analysed the
results so that I know what to include in my music video. I asked a
number of people to fill out my questionnaire however most were
of a teenager/young adult’s opinion. This is useful as my music
video will be based around this target audience.In this week I am
continuing to fill in my storyboard.
Finish brainstorming my ideas and complete my
storyboard.

This week I have finished brainstorming my initial ideas however I
have not yet finished creating my storyboard.
Next week I will aim to finish my storyboard so that I can

I am still continuing to work on my script; I am trying to ensure I

I have now completed my storyboard and I am happy with how we
have created it. I have now arranged to start filming with the other
members of my group and will begin filming following the
guidelines of my script and storyboard.
Next week I will begin shooting footage for my music
video following my storyboard.

I have started filming footage for my music video. Next week I will upload the footage that I have shot
onto adobe premiere. I also aim to go out and shoot
more footage.

I have again gone out this week and shot more footage for my
music video. I also placed the footage I have shot previously onto
adobe premiere so that I can begin to edit it next week.
I plan to edit the footage using adobe premiere and
then work out if any more footage is needed.

This week I have placed all the remaining footage that I have shot
onto adobe whilst starting to edit. The editing of my footage made
me realise I do not need to film anymore footage.
I will continue editing my music video next week so that
it is complete to an appropriate standard.

Mon W/B 11/03/13
(Detailed Weekly Summary)
This week I have finished editing my music video. As I have
completed this earlier than thought I then created a focus group
on Facebook that allowed me to collect feedback ready for my
evaluation.
Next week I will analyse my focus groups response and
revisit my ancillary’s to make sure they are appropriate.

This week I have analysed my focus groups and have made some
changes to my ancillaries.
Next week I aim to complete two of my evaluation
questions, one will be a word document with the other
a prezi.

This week I have been able to finish two evaluation questions. This
included a work document and a prezi. I completed these and
placed them onto my blog.
Next week I will aim to finish off my other two
evaluation questions and place them onto my blog. I
also aim to create a final draft of my music video and
place it on to YouTube.

I have placed my final draft onto YouTube and have now begun
constructing my evaluation essays.

completely and check if there needs anything doing on

I have found to have some trouble with sound cloud whilst
evaluating my work so have another evaluation question
presented as a word document. I have however still created one of
the evaluations on PowerPoint. I have now uploaded the work to
my blog and have now completed my assignment.
