This document is a production diary for a student's A2 media studies advanced portfolio project. It provides monthly and weekly progress updates from September 2012 to April 2013. The student worked in a group to create a music video. They went through many iterations of their idea due to technical difficulties filming and editing footage. They eventually recreated the "Annoying Orange" concept by editing their mouths onto images of animals singing along. The diary outlines their planning, filming, editing process and evaluations.

PROGRESS UPDATE PLAN FOR NEXT MONTH / WEEK (Including Possible

September 2012
(Detailed Monthly Summary)
We got into our groups and began to look
into the different variety of genre music
videos we could do. Our group, Sadie
Paraduik, Jess Gilani, Bethany Everall and I,
initially chose to look at the RnB genre,
however we decided to go with the Pop
genre as it allowed us to work with a range
of ideas for our music video.
Next month I plan to start my Ancillary Research and
begin to look further into how we could present a
generic pop CD cover and poster.
October 2012

I began to work towards my Ancillary
Research and Construction 1 by looking at a
variety of artists CD front covers, back and
viynals and analysing them. I began to plan
my own on Photoshop.
I will then further my research into looking at CD release
posters and decide on the 3 I will then go on to
evaluate.
November 2012

Ancillary Research into 3 posters of my own
choice, began to evaluate them and put
them on my blog as apart of my Product
Research.
Choose 3 music videos to anaylse and compare with the
use of the grand narratives. Build on my own market
research for my final outcome.
December 2012

Put my 3 music videos analysis on my blog
and began to create a questionnaire as
apart of my Market Research.
Begin to evulaute my findings and decide on a definate
genre of music video to do. Also analyse how the results
would effect our choice.

Work towards putting all my current research onto my

Mon W/B 28/01/13

We looked through our initial ideas mind
map as a group and chose the key points
we wanted to feature in our music video.
Decide how we will film our music video now we have
initial ideas and where and when we will begint to film.

(Detailed Weekly Summary)
The more planning for our music video of
our idea to include people having fun in a
nightclub as opposed to in a classroom. This
was to emphasise the norms of a teenagers
day to day life.
Hire a camera for next week so that as a group we will
all be able to find the time during the week to get
together and film. Also film when we are out in a club to
include as part of the footage.

We began to film our footage of many
different people having fun e.g dancing
outside, in a club, then in a classroom.
Gain a variety of footage next week by asking random
people to be apart of the make up of our music video.
E.g singing along to the lyrics.

Gathered further footage of students in
college pretending to look bored so that we
could begin our video with this footage as
opposed to the footage from the night club.
Send the footage through email to the college computer
and begin to look at how to edit the footage to enhance
the purpose of portraying a students mundane life.

We began to realise the difficulties we were
experiencing with successfully placing the
footage we had off an Iphone onto the
computer.
Come together and decide on a way in which we are still
going to do the same song and theme to the music
video without having to change our original ideas
completely.

Began to plan an alternative way of filming
the footage we wanted to get in enough
time to begin the editing process.
Hire a video camera from college so that we can film the
new bits of footage we want to add to our music video.

We then decided to refilm our footage on a
Nikon video camera and change our idea
slightly so that we could recreate the
Annoying Orange.
Work together to decide who is going to be featured in
our music video as the eyes and the mouth of the
animals so that it seems like they are singing along to
the lyrics.

This week we spent our time filming
ourselves singing along to the same song
we originally chose in order to transfer our
mouths onto the images we will take.
Hire a camera in order for us to begin to take pictures of
the animals we would like to be in our music video. Plan
on how we are going to change our original idea due to
technical difficulties.

Mon W/B 01/04/13

Took a variety of images of animals faces
we think would be useful in terms of
looking straight on at the camera lense for
us to be able to edit our mouths onto the
front of the animals.
Continue to collect a wide range of images so that we
can pick out the best and start to edit the footage we
have got on Premier After Effects.

Inserted the images we wanted to use onto
Photoshop and cropped around them to get
a clear shot of the majority of the head.
Began to work on my evaluation as our
footage came together.
Finish editing our music video so that we can focus on
getting our evaluations completed and put onto our
blogs.

I edited my evuluation where I had
originally spoke about our first idea,
explained how we had to go with different
footage and how we put it all together.
