This document is a production diary detailing the progress of Tom Arrowsmith's A2 Media Studies advanced portfolio project over several months. It outlines the steps taken each month/week to complete ancillary projects, conduct research, plan a main music video piece, film and edit footage, troubleshoot issues, and finalize and evaluate the full project. It concludes by noting the completion of all tasks except a production diary, which is also now finished.

PROGRESS UPDATE PLAN FOR NEXT MONTH / WEEK(Including Possible

September 2013
(Detailed Monthly Summary)
This month we have been working on our ancillary 1 project. I
chose my group partners and as a precursor to the ancillary 1
project I conducted some product research on digipaks before
beginning the construction of my ancillary 1 project. I also chose
my partners for my project.
Next month I plan on finishing the construction of my
ancillary 1 project, researching and beginning the
construction of my ancillary 2 project.
October 2013

This month I finished the production of my ancillary 1 project
before uploading it to my blog, conducted product research on
music magazine posters and began the construction of my ancillary
2 project.
Next month I plan on finishing the production of my
ancillary 2 project and beginning the planning for my
main piece.
November 2013

This month I finished the production of my ancillary 2 project,
uploaded it to my blog and began to plan for my main piece,
producing an ideas generation mind map with my group and
beginning a written summary of our ideas.
Next month I plan on finishing the written summary of
our ideas, and summarising my product research
regarding the main piece.
December 2013

This month I finished the written summary of ideas and
summarised my product research, beginning to upload them to
Prezi to then be uploaded to my blog.
Next month I plan on continuing the plan for my main
piece, uploading my presentation of the summary of my
product research to my blog and beginning the script for
my main piece with my group

This week I uploaded the first presentation of my product research
to my blog and began to work on the script with my group.
Next week I plan on finishing my next presentation and
uploading it to my blog and finalising the music video
script with my group.

Although I failed to upload them to my blog, this week I finished
my second presentation and the music video script with my group.
Next week I plan on uploading my completed pieces
from this week onto my blog, completing and uploading
my final presentation of my product research onto my
blog and beginning my storyboards.

This week I uploaded my second presentation of my product
research and the music video to my script, began the storyboards
for my music video with my group and completed but yet again
failed to upload my final presentation of my market research
Next week I plan on REMEMBERING to upload my final
piece of market research onto my blog, completing my
storyboards with my group, setting dates for filming
with my group.

Mon W/B 27/01/14

This week I finally remembered to upload my final presentation of
market research onto my blog, completed my storyboards with my
group and found that our group are unavailable for filming until
late February
Next week I plan on uploading my storyboards to my
blog, reaffirming the dates for and preparing for the
filming of our music video

This week I uploaded my storyboards to my blog, finalised the
dates for the filming of our music video, gathered and confirmed
the dates with the performers featured and created a mock-up
video using old footage as a guideline for our filming and editing
process
Next week I plan on finally reconfirming the details for
the filming of our music video, familiarising myself with
the editing software and revising the details of our
script and storyboard

This week we have been preparing for filming which will be taking
place next week. We have been revising the details of our
storyboard and script so we can use them when we start filming.
Next week we are planning to start filming our music
video.

This week we gathered the footage for our music video which we
will edit when we are back in college next week.
Next week I plan on completing the editing of the
majority of our music video.
Mon W/B 24/02/14
(Detailed Weekly Summary)
Whilst we organised our footage well and were able to produce
the opening 20 seconds of our music video, we found that due to
an error in production we did not have enough useable footage
and this also meant that we would have to change our video
entirely to a performance video as opposed to performance and
narrative as it would be too arduous, time consuming and
ultimately impossible to reassemble all of the performers for
filming within the dates needed, especially as the narrative aspects
were more difficult to film.
Next week I plan to reshoot some footage and make
progress on the video editing, making sure to get a
wider range of interesting shots so that the video is
more visually stimulating.
Mon W/B 03/03/14

We continued to make good progress on the video, getting one
and a half minutes of shots sequenced, however we are still facing
some difficulties with the footage, finding it continuously more
difficult to find new, unused footage, despite needing to sequence
double what we already have.
Next week we plan on finishing the first draft of the
video.

Whilst we were able to select all of the shots that we wanted for
the video in their ordered sequence, we realised that not all of the

With great difficulty we managed to better sync the video with the
music and whilst we did not finish the edit, we exported a small
sample of the video and worked on editing it in after effects.
Next week we plan on completing the edit in both
premier and after effects and beginning our evaluation.
Mon W/B 31/03/14
(Detailed Weekly Summary)
We completed an edit in after effects, however, we found that
when we exported it in premier the sound in the video was not
playing as it should as the file was damaged.
Next week I plan on confronting the sound problem in
our video, exporting the final edit and uploading it to
vimeo.
Mon W/B 07/04/14

We finished the video edit in premier and after effects and
uploaded it to vimeo, creating a focus group on facebook for
feedback.
Next week I plan on beginning an evaluation of my
products, utilising the focus group for question 3.
Mon W/B 28/04/14 I completed my evaluation and began uploading it to different
platforms of review.
Next week I plan on finishing uploading my evaluation
on a range of platforms and completing my project
checklist.
Mon W/B 05/05/14 I finished uploading my evaluation and completed all other tasks
on my checklist except the production diary. I completed the
production diary and uploaded the remainder of my work that I
had yet to upload to my blog.
