Production Diary
PROGRESS UPDATE PLAN FOR NEXT MONTH / WEEK(Including Possible
Contingency Plans If Problems Anticipated)
September 2013
(Detailed Monthly Summary)
This month I have been briefed on what my advanced portfolio
was to create. I had the choice of choosing between 4 different
types of products, music video, documentary, short film or a
newspaper. I decided that I would focus on creating a music video
for my advanced portfolio. I then joined together with Jack Wright
who I work closely with to create a successful and professional
final product. We were then briefed on what we needed to include
in our portfolio’s, this included creating ancillary products as well
as the final product (music video), audience feedback, and product
research which would help us to create our final video. After we
had discussed what needed to be included in our advanced
portfolio’s we then set up or blogs on www.blogger.com and
adapted the layout so our portfolio’s would be displayed the way
we wanted. We then started our ancillary 1 research and
construction (digipak/album)
The plans for next month as well as the closely following
weeks are to start researching our ancillary 2 product
(magazine poster) and then look at the construction of it
also. Also finish off any extra improvements needed on
the ancillary 1 digipak.
October 2013
This month we started our ancillary 2 (poster) researches. We did
this by finding images in magazines and on the internet to then
research the different conventions they held. The second week of
this month we then focused on creating our ancillary 2 product by
using the knowledge we had gained the previous week. The
following week we focused on finish both the research and
construction of the product off, this allowed us enough time to
finish both research and construction to a hopefully high standard.
Because both ancillary 1 and ancillary 2 research are
finished I now am focusing on starting the main
piece/product research and planning.
November 2013
This month has been extremely busy. I first focused on music video
analysis’, this allowed me to gain knowledge on what music video’s
include today. I focused on micro elements of them such as mis en
scene, cinemography, editing and the sound effects which are
sometimes used. This month I have also started the planning of my
main product, this included both me and jack creating a storyboard
and script for us to construct our video off of. We also went into
For the next weeks I am off college but I hope to
continue planning the video and making the idea we
have as solid as I can possibly can. After I return back to
college I hope to next month focus on the actual
construction of our final product and get the majority of
recorded on camera.

deep though about what characters to include and decided on a
narrative which would just include on one main character. This has
helped us out a lot as we now have a solid idea of how we want
our music video to sculpt out like. We also created a mind ideas
generation map as well as a written summary of ideas. Again this
gave us a much better idea of how we wanted our final piece to
finish out like.
December 2013
I have only had a week in college so I continued planning how we
are going to construct the video.

Mon W/B 07/01/13
(Detailed Weekly Summary)
This has been the first week back after the Christmas holidays. This
week has been quite exciting and productive as this was the first
week of recording the scenes we had planned in our storyboards.
We have recorded some of the scenes at my own house as well as
out and about on roads as jack drives, these scenes once edited
will hopefully look flowing and professional as well as matching the
narrative we are aiming for. I have also imported the clips recorded
on the camera into an area on my computer for later use.
My plans for next week are continue recording as well
as editing some of the clips together on Adobe Premiere
Pro.
Mon W/B 14/01/13
This week we have continued to record some of the scenes.
Because Jack was away unavailable this week I recorded some of
the scenes on my own which did not need him in the shot. I again
imported these onto my computer at college in categorized files.
Next week I will hopefully start to edit some of the clips
I have recorded. This will help me gather an
understanding on what we have left to film.
Mon W/B 21/01/13
This week I started to edit some of the clips together on Adobe
Premiere Pro. I have created about 1 minute of the music video so
far to quite a good level, this has gave me the confidence to carry
on with the construction of our main product.
I plan to get some more recording done and edit
further.
Mon W/B 28/01/13
This week we went out one night and filmed in Manchester city
centre as well as recording in locations in the day. This was a large
chunk of the clips/scenes that we needed for the music video
which gave us a large amount of footage to work with in the
editing suite.
Next week we need to focus on the editing of the music
video.

believe that it is to a very good standard, there are some
clips/scenes missing still.
then get every piece of footage edited or close to being
edited.
Mon W/B 11/02/13
This week have put every piece of footage into premiere pro and
edited so the narrative makes sense. We have changed the colours
of clips, added fast forward effects, size of clips. A whole arrange of
different effects have been added as well as focusing on the way
the clips have been edited together to match the beat of the
music.
Next week I will finally have finished the music
video/final product and will be exporting it out of the
software and onto YouTube which can then be shared
to gain audience feedback and improvements that can
be made
Mon W/B 18/02/13
This week I have put added final touches to the music video. For
example making sure the scenes match the beat of the song, as
well as changing the colours of the scenes to display the narrative
more clearly. I have also started adding the final touches on my
ancillary 1 digipak as I wanted to edit it a small bit.
Next week plan is to do the same with my ancillary 2
product as well as finally exporting my video (final
product) onto YouTube.
Mon W/B 25/02/13
I have finally exported my video onto YouTube and now it is
available for the public to watch. I have also added some changes
to my ancillary 2 product which will hopefully improve it even
more. I also started my audience feedback by sending my video to
a group of people on facebook.
I plan to start the evaluation questions surrounding my
final product.
Mon W/B 04/03/13
I have gained audience feedback this week and have made a few
minor adjustments on my final video because some people found a
few improvements that could be made. I have also created an
audience feedback evaluation video which I recorded people’s
views after they had watched the video.
Next week I plan to carry on with my evaluation
questions.
Mon W/B 11/03/13
This week I have finished two other evaluation questions and
presented them in both a presentation and prezi format. This
leaves me to just finish one more question out of my evaluation
and then I will have finished my advanced portfolio.
I plan to finish my last evaluation question and then
check if I have put everything on my blog for my
advanced portfolio.
Mon W/B 18/03/13
This week I have finally finished my evaluation questions. I
presented this via a presentation and sound cloud format. I made
a few changes to some names I had titled some work under on my
blog.

CONLUSION Throughout the months I have been working on my advanced
portfolio I have found it extremely challenging and time
consuming but now I have finished it I am extremely happy with
the level of work I have produced and feel I have accomplished the
task I set out to accomplish.
