Dialogue in Uncivil Times Special Extra Credit Opportunity Overview The CMM 100 instructional staff is pleased to announce a special program-wide opportunity for extra credit in the course, one that focuses on dialogue, a primary component of the course. On Friday October 19 from 5:00-6:30 pm in Sears Recital Hall, two members of the Ohio Congress, Hon. Peggy Lehner and Hon. Fred Strahorn; two academic experts in communication, Dr. Mary Stuckey of Penn State University and Dr. Andrew Ledbetter of Texas Christian University; and the director of exploratory research from the Charles F. Kettering Foundation, Ms. Valerie Lemmie will meet to explore the importance of civil dialogue in today’s highly polarized political environment. Former governor of Ohio, Robert Taft, and the chair of the Communication Department, Dr. Joseph Valenzano will moderate the conversation. Our textbook, Principles of Oral Communication, defines civility as “the genuine and reciprocal expression of respect for ourselves and other people through our actions and statements.” Two major themes of CMM 100 are that dialogue with others is a key path to fostering mutual understanding in the face of different views, and that successful dialogue is not possible without a foundation of civil interaction. Participants in dialogue gain an opportunity to develop a richer, clearer, and more accurate understanding of each other’s views without the expectations of holding to their initial positions or reaching agreement with each other. As such, it can function as a key process for fostering learning and goodwill. This event promises a quality exploration of this theme from diverse vantage points and an opportunity to consider dialogue as an alternative in navigating the polarization of today’s world. Task To receive extra credit, students will need to complete the following task. After attending the event, students must write a short reflection in which they answer the following questions: 1. What specific views did participants express during the conversation that impacted your thinking about dialogue in the face of incivility today? How did those views affect your thinking? 2. How successfully did the participants foster civility among themselves? In what behaviors did they engage that promoted civility? Which behaviors detracted from it? 3. On what points did participants differ in their views? How did they express their different views? How did their expression of these differences among them affect the quality of dialogue? 4. How well did the participants listen to each other? Describe a particular moment in the interaction in which you observed effective listening. 5. What did you learn from this conversation about your own interactions with others in today’s often polarized environment? What lessons will you take with you from the talk into your own conversations with others? Your reflection must be no less tha.

Our research is informed by online resources through Miami University library such as articles, books and news. Also, we will combine with class’s reading materials to discuss. Then we will interview several Chinese students and American students to obtain useful information to our project.
Methodology
Our methodology include searching materials online,interview Miami students who have experience study abroad or travel abroad and professors who have experience about teach them. Also,we search about the video for learning foreign language in class.

Introduction
The topic question is the effectiveness of the interpersonal communication so as to help in human understanding one another. Without communication of whatsoever kind, it would be difficult to express ourselves and to be understood by others since communication is the core basis of a healthy relationship.
Communication entails people from a different background so as to speak to others in a manner that is clear (Campbell 2017). One is the parents so that they can be able to address the children in a well-sorted manner. Another is spouses so as to have an effective way of expressing feelings, desires, and sharing of the ideas with one another. Relationships strengthen through the exchange of feelings, ideas, and expressing one’s desires which are enabled by effective communication. Another is public so as to understand ways of understanding ideas and the blocks that can arise to an efficient transition to the communication.
The article is looking for the means to examine various interpersonal skill that is vital during the communication process. Since communication is essential barriers that block its effectiveness in the expression of one's feeling will also be mentioned. An idea cannot be implemented if there are no proper means of communication. Also, the equation like does being a good speaker increases one’s self-confidence. The Origin
Tea was brought to Japan from China (618-907 AD) by the Tang Dynasty. The first Tea
Ceremony is hinted in the 8th century by a Chinese Buddhist writer in the book dubbed “Cha
Ching”. Tea plants for medicinal consumption by Japanese priests and nobbles hallmarks (Japan
710-794). Religious consumption of tea was a practice developed by Myoan Eisai, the founder of
Zen Buddhism in the Rinzai sect temple. Tea processing began during this time. Pounding of tea
leaves prior to adding warm water, and tea whisking after hot water is poured over it form the

The topic question is the effectiveness of the interpersonal communication so as to help in human understanding one another. Without communication of whatsoever kind, it would be difficult to express ourselves and to be understood by others since communication is the core basis of a healthy relationship.
Communication entails people from a different background so as to speak to others in a manner that is clear (Campbell 2017). One is the parents so that they can be able to address the children in a well-sorted manner. Another is spouses so as to have an effective way of expressing feelings, desires, and sharing of the ideas with one another. Relationships strengthen through the exchange of feelings, ideas, and expressing one’s desires which are enabled by effective communication. Another is public so as to understand ways of understanding ideas and the blocks that can arise to an efficient transition to the communication.
The article is looking for the means to examine various interpersonal skill that is vital during the communication process. Since communication is essential barriers that block its effectiveness in the expression of one's feeling will also be mentioned. An idea cannot be implemented if there are no proper means of communication. Also, the equation like does being a good speaker increases one’s self-confidence. The Origin
Tea was brought to Japan from China (618-907 AD) by the Tang Dynasty. The first Tea

Seventeen-year-old Tanya is popular with her peers and frequently at odds with school rules. AP Donner confronted Tanya with the surveillance recording and stated “Tanya, did you really follow Franklyn into the men’s restroom?” Tanya admitted to following Franklyn into the restroom, but claimed that he had taken her cell phone and had dared her to follow him into the restroom to reclaim her property. School rules forbid the possession of cell phones during school hours. Students who violate the rule are assigned Saturday detention. AP Donner decided to suspend Tanya for 10 days for possession of a cell phone in school, flagrant disregard for school rules and disregard for decorum. Tanya’s parents immediately hired an attorney. Response from Classmate
In the case of Tanya and her ten-day suspension from school, there are a number of things that must be considered. These include circumstances, precipitating factors, and mitigating factors. After careful consideration of the facts fop the case and the circumstances, it is appropriate that Tanya was suspended. However, the suspension was not handled appropriately and there are other actions that would need to take place as well to justify the suspension of Tanya.
The most important thing to consider in this case, and the reason that the suspension of Taya is justified and valid, is that she broke two clear school rules. She had a cell phone in her possession during school hours, which is clearly a violation of school policy, and she also went into a male only restroom after the student named Franklyn Smith. The combination of these two factors, along with the prior history of her disruptive nature at school and her previous suspensions are the reasons why this suspension is justified.
It needs to be noted that the school rules forbidding the possession of a cell phone during school hours contains in it a specification that the punishment for a violation of that rule is a Saturday detention. Taken at face value, that would seem to suggest that the ten-day suspension of Tanya is excessive and out of order and therefore not justified. However, when the violation of that rule is taken in.

Post 1: Specific learning disability (SLD) is a disability category included in the federal definition of educational disabilities. A learning disability is a disorder that generally includes the inability to use or understand language sufficiently enough to learn core academic subjects like reading, writing, or mathematics. The best practices for the identification, classification, and support of students in need of SLD services have been the focus of considerable research over the past century. The evidence-based practices schools have chosen to assess students who are at risk and identify SLD have ranged from the evaluation and comparison of test scores to more subject interventions and psychological assessments. As research uncovers more data regarding learning, each generation tries to improve how students are identified and classified (Fletcher, Stuebing, Morris, & Lyon, 2013). Currently, Multitiered system of supports (MTSS) is widely used in K-12 schools in the United States to identify and support students receiving SLD services. MTSS was intended to help all students by using a multifaceted approach to identifying students at risk or simply in need of additional support to be successful in a specific subject. MTSS includes evidence-based response to intervention (RTI) procedures (Barrett & Newman, 2018).
Barrett & Newman (2018) evaluated the effectiveness of MTSS for the identification and classification of students in special education departments serviced under the SLD label as well as the level of achievement attained over a period of ten years. Examining MTSS Implementation Across Systems for SLD Identification: A Case Study describes the effect of MTSS implementation on the identification and achievement of students in a midwestern regional educational service agency (RESA). The authors found that a significant body of research conducted in local schools showed improvement in academic achievement and student behavior when MTSS or RTI frameworks were implemented. Decreases in special education placements and less misclassification of learning disabilities were also significant (Barrett & Newman, 2018). However, these positive findings were shown to be incomplete or inaccurate by a recent nationwide study conducted across 13 states by the Department of Education (2015). This study revealed either a negative or neutral effect of MTSS on students. Referencing this seemingly contradictory data, Barrett and Newman (2018) recognize that one evidence-based approach is insufficient to meet the multifaceted and individual needs of students. The authors suggest that the reliance on IQ test and achievement test discrepancies, or an attempt to identify an SLD through a series of interventions are inadequate. A wound is a break in the integrity of the skin or tissues, which may be associated with disruption of the structure and function.
Healing is the body’s response to injury in an attempt to restore normal structure and functions.
Healing can occur in two ways: Regeneration and Repair
There are 4 phases of wound healing: hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling. This document also describes the mechanism of wound healing. Factors that affect healing include infection, uncontrolled diabetes, poor nutrition, age, anemia, the presence of foreign bodies, etc.

Dialogue in Uncivil Times Special Extra Credit Opportunity Overview The CMM 100 instructional staff is pleased to announce a special program-wide opportunity for extra credit in the course, one that focuses on dialogue, a primary component of the course. On Friday October 19 from 5:00-6:30 pm in Sears Recital Hall, two members of the Ohio Congress, Hon. Peggy Lehner and Hon. Fred Strahorn; two academic experts in communication, Dr. Mary Stuckey of Penn State University and Dr. Andrew Ledbetter of Texas Christian University; and the director of exploratory research from the Charles F. Kettering Foundation, Ms. Valerie Lemmie will meet to explore the importance of civil dialogue in today’s highly polarized political environment. Former governor of Ohio, Robert Taft, and the chair of the Communication Department, Dr. Joseph Valenzano will moderate the conversation. Our textbook, Principles of Oral Communication, defines civility as “the genuine and reciprocal expression of respect for ourselves and other people through our actions and statements.” Two major themes of CMM 100 are that dialogue with others is a key path to fostering mutual understanding in the face of different views, and that successful dialogue is not possible without a foundation of civil interaction. Participants in dialogue gain an opportunity to develop a richer, clearer, and more accurate
- 2. understanding of each other’s views without the expectations of holding to their initial positions or reaching agreement with each other. As such, it can function as a key process for fostering learning and goodwill. This event promises a quality exploration of this theme from diverse vantage points and an opportunity to consider dialogue as an alternative in navigating the polarization of today’s world. Task To receive extra credit, students will need to complete the following task. After attending the event, students must write a short reflection in which they answer the following questions: 1. What specific views did participants express during the conversation that impacted your thinking about dialogue in the face of incivility today? How did those views affect your thinking? 2. How successfully did the participants foster civility among themselves? In what behaviors did they engage that promoted civility? Which behaviors detracted from it? 3. On what points did participants differ in their views? How did they express their different views? How did their expression of these differences among them affect the quality of dialogue? 4. How well did the participants listen to each other? Describe a particular moment in the interaction in which you observed effective listening. 5. What did you learn from this conversation about your own
- 3. interactions with others in today’s often polarized environment? What lessons will you take with you from the talk into your own conversations with others? Your reflection must be no less than 750 words. Students should type their reflection papers and submit an electronic copy on Isidore to the “Extra Credit Dialogue Reflection” Assignment link. Some instructors also might ask students to submit a hard copy of the reflection in class. Extra Credit Bonus If students complete the reflection assignment, then at their instructor’s discretion, they will receive a bonus equaling 2% of the final course grade. This bonus will be applied at the end of the semester when final grades are submitted. For students with a high number of absences, this bonus is effectively an opportunity to compensate for one absence that has resulted in a penalty to the grade.
