The document provides details on Ross Hardman's digital graphic narrative development project, including evaluations of images he created of an alligator, shark, and names in different styles, as well as proposals and feedback for a digital book telling the story of Robin Hood. The project utilizes techniques like rotoscoping, effects, and photography to create the images and evaluate strengths and areas for improvement. Feedback focused on adding more details, explanations, and annotations to ideas, characters, and chosen techniques.
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

3. Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
The gradient change on most of the spikes on the alligators back created a good texture and the
colour of the alligators body as I felt it was very close to the actual colour of one, these are the
only real positives that I take from this bit of work as ill explain below.
What would you improve if you did it again?
Id use a simpler image for my work as I found this one very difficult to make recognisable, I would
try to make the tail look more aesthetically pleasing to the eye, as well as the mouth and legs, I
would've also liked to change the background but with the work on the spikes I did not have time
too.
6. Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
I liked the look of my sharks body and fins as I though the colour scheme and proportions look
aesthetically pleasing to the eye, I also like the background that I created for the work as it looks
like the ocean is getting darker as the shark goes deeper into the water as well as the additions of
the bubbles and seaweed.
What would you improve if you did it again?
If I did it again I would aim to improve the mouth and gills of the shark and add texture to the
sharks body, I would also add more too the background of the image such as fish or other forms
of sea life, I feel like the background is too empty, also I would try to rotoscope the whole image
as apposed to just the fins, gills , tail and mouth.
12. Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
I really like the CM Punk clipping mask effect used on the second image and the tracking and
leading tool, the CM Punk clipping mask effect worked perfectly and I gained the desired effect
that I was looking for, this is down to the tracking and leading tool making it possible to push the
letters of my name closer together so I could get the image of CM Punk to look coherent.
What would you improve if you did it again?
Id use less effects on my first set of names if I could do it again as the last one doesn’t look
aesthetically pleasing on the eye.
16. Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
I like the effect and process that I used to gain such effect because it is simple yet creates a very
neat and abstract effect just like a comic book, my first image of Triple H is perfect for this very
reason as it captures the image perfectly but the image also has the abstract feel as the water
that is being spat out in my image looks almost like flames.
What would you improve if you did it again?
If I did it again I would probably use more abstract and surreal imagery to create an even more
interesting image effect but otherwise I think the effects work just how they were intended.
21. Evaluation
What did you like about your images?
I liked the fact that with photography you can get good real life crisp images in almost no time to
use in a project, these images took 30 minutes to gather and aim to capture the emotions of
loneliness happiness sadness and excitement.
What would you improve if you did it again?
Id change the sadness and excitement images in order to get a better look on the bullies face and
less blur on the shot of me jumping.
23. Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
Not much as I don’t have good illustration skills but I think I did better than I expected, especially
with the CM Punk logo on the shirt.
What would you improve if you did it again?
Id add more detail to the T-shirt and add shading and textures to the shirt, beard and hair of my
image.

35. Proposal
Dimensions
In my book il be aiming to make around 24-28 pages with text on the left hand page
and my images on the right, I will aim to create a page size of around 1500cm by
900cm
Story Overview
Paul is captured whilst returning from ECW, so Vince takes his power which allows him
to oppress the people of ECW , so Punk gathers together a gang to help stop Vinces
oppression, he recruits the help of Bill and to help defeat Vinces henchmen Kane and
HHH whilst trying to win back ECW.
Export Format
PDF
Advantages: Fast, easy and simple to produce.
Disadvantages: Sizing problems.
36. Deadline
18th December 2014
Audience
The age for my book will be aimed at 4-7 year olds so there will be focus on images
but also a fair amount of text will be written for this book.
The gender audience for this piece would hopefully be either but I feel that this
particular tale would attract blokes rather than women due to its action and themes
of a man chasing a woman.
Production Methods
To produce my pages I am going too use images as my backgrounds and use
rotoscoping as for my foreground details and characters so I can spend time on
detail such as textures and facial expressions etc.
37. What are the strengths of the proposal? What areas of the proposal need further work?
The proposal is detailed and explains clearly what
digital graphic techniques will be used and how
they will be used in the book.
Add more detail to the advantages/disadvantages
on PDF section, more detail could also be added to
the audience section such as where they might live
and class etc.
What are the strengths of the idea generation? What areas of idea generation could have been
further developed?
It shows a mood board for each character and fonts
which could be used for each one, the mind map
shows how many words should be used on each
page for each age group.
More annotation could be added to explain thought
processes on each character and what graphics
technique you will use for them, annotate fonts to
explain why you will be using them or not using
them and how they relate to your story.
38. What are the strengths of the proposal? What areas of the proposal need further work?
Your proposal explains how you are going to
structure your work quite well. It also explains it
also tells the story of ‘Robin Hood quite well’
I think that you could explain things in a bit more
detail. Say why you think what you have told us.
What are the strengths of the idea generation? What areas of idea generation could have been
further developed?
You have a very strong mood board, which is very
well set out and easy to read. I also like the way in
which you have made individual slides for each
character. I also like how you have included a good
range of fonts.
You could put some annotating to go with the
images. Could also say why you have chosen them
images.
39. What are the strengths of the proposal? What areas of the proposal need further work?
You have talked about the methods you are going
to use in detail which makes it clear.
You need to add in a deadline date and you could
talk about whether parents would want to buy this
book for their children and why.
What are the strengths of the idea generation? What areas of idea generation could have been
further developed?
There is a mood board for each character and the
mind map shows lots of ideas.
You could have annotated the mind maps and
talked about each of the characters and how you
would illustrate them.
40. Feedback Summary
Sum up your feedback.
My feedback is all linked with me having more negatives than positives which I can agree
with most of them.
Which parts of your feedback do you agree with and why?
The fact I should annotate my image mood boards as they are just a collection of images
with a title and no real reason behind it.
Which parts of your feedback do you disagree with and why?
Having to annotate my mind maps…as I don’t think anyone has annotated their mind
maps.
43. Final Script
Once upon a time in a land not so far from here, the evil Vince McMahon had
taken over the WWE universe, along with his henchmen Triple H and Kane.
Vince’s competition Paul Heyman had been locked away in ECW Prison, leaving
all the power to him.
Nobody could stand up to Vince as him and his men took all their stuff by force.
Except two men, CM Hood and Little Bill, friends of Paul, and Vince’s enemies!
Hood and Bill looked out over the universe treetops, they heard the noise of a
car coming through the forest.
“Look Hood, that’s Kanes car”
