3. Structure of coaching in Australia
The Australian Sports Commission (ASC) sets the coaching structure
and accreditation program in Australia
All coaches should be accredited under the National Coaching
Accreditation Scheme
The accreditation scheme is to ensure a minimal standard of
coaching across all level and sports
The ASC provides the general principles and intermediate principles
courses
National and state sporting organisations deliver sports specific
accreditation for coaches in their particular sport

Every sport is governed by its own national organisations
National sporting organisations provide:

Coaching and officiating accreditation
Elite competition and pathways for talented athletes
Range of resources for associations, clubs and
volunteers
6. State Sporting Associations (SSA)
Each sport has a state based sporting association
These associations manage the activities of clubs and
associations in their state
All local competitions and clubs are registered with state
sporting association
Assist NSO with coaching and officiating accreditation
course
Deliver state based talent pathways for athletes
Assist local clubs and association to develop governance
and structure

Coaches across all levels of sport can access information
and resources from the following sources:
ASC – general principles course, resources
DSR – Funding opportunities, club development
resources and support
NSO – Accreditation and registration for coaches and
official, member protection
SSA – Delivery of accreditation course, development
opportunities, pathways, rules and regulations for
sport
There is a considerable amount of competition today within the training and assessment marketplace. The increase in competition coincides with a reduction of funding and so this means that we need to provide the highest possible level of customer service to both win and retain customer or client business. Without our students/clients we don’t have a job, it’s as simple as that!
