From the the teams struggling with DevOps to experienced professionals trying to make a shift to DevOps, this presentation helps in how understanding how DevOps makes Deliveries faster and accurate
Recently I was asked to explain what dev-ops is at a large enterprise software vendor undergoing transformation.
In these slides, I present the concepts, tools and mindset that drive DevOPS.
An introduction to DevOps, from first principles. You'll learn about the Three Ways of DevOps, CAMS, the benefits as asserted by the State of DevOps Report 2016 and some case studies, geared towards the financial industry.
More and more teams are turning to DevOps as a way of working together to improve the efficiency and quality of software delivery and start adding more value to the business. But without having someone on the team with experience of putting it into practice, it's sometimes difficult to know how to get started.
Redgate Software invited Steve Thair, CTO at the DevOpsGuys, to deliver a one-hour training session on 'How to get started with DevOps'. Steve gave practical tips on how you can start implementing DevOps in your own organization.

Four pillars of DevOps - John Shaw - Agile Cambridge 2014johnfcshaw
Slides presented at Agile Cambridge 2014 http://agilecambridge.net/ac2014/sessions/index.php?session=57
Session Description:
The emerging practice of DevOps is a natural extension to established Agile methods. The choice of tooling to support the practices is important and will influence heavily how rapid, repeatable and reliable live deployments might be.
Three of the four pillars are concerned with automation through tooling but, arguably, the fourth pillar is more important than the other three together. The fourth pillar is at the heart of the Agile Manifesto: people.
The "Gold Rush" for DevOps is dominated by vendors and the push to sell their wares. But it is people who use the tools, people who define, develop and assure the software, and people who manage the services after they have gone live. One of the cornerstones of DevOps is breaking down the walls between development teams and operations; too much tool specialisation will lead to further separation and even the introduction of yet another silo.
This talk will cover four pillars to DevOps: Environments, Deployment, Testing and People. The insights brought together in this talk were gained under commercial engagements with government clients, on development of financial systems responsible for management of funding in the adult education sector.

HadoopCon2015 Multi-Cluster Live Synchronization with Kerberos Federated HadoopYafang Chang
In enterprise on-premises data center, we may have multiple Secured Hadoop clusters for different purpose. Sometimes, these Hadoop clusters might have different Hadoop distribution, Hadoop version, or even locat in different Data Center. To fulfill business requirement, data synchronize between these clusters could be an important mechanism. However, the story will be more complicated within the real world secured multi-cluster, compare to distcp between two same version and non-secured Hadoop clusters.
We would like to go through our experience on enable live data synchronization for mutiple kerberos enabled Hadoop clusters. Which include the functionality verification, multi-cluster configurations and automation setup process, etc. After that, we would share the use cases among those kerberos federated Hadoop clusters. Finally, provide our common practice on multi-cluster data synchronization.

Jan de Vries - How to convince your boss that it is DevOps that he wantsAgile Lietuva
- We all know that we could implement DevOps a lot faster if we only would have commitment from our boss. We all know that there is a shiny business case for almost every DevOps implementation
- And we all know that the whole company will reap the benefits regarding speed, agility and stability once we implemented DevOps. Actually, it provides good, fast and cheap at the same time. So, what are we waiting for? What is your boss waiting for? What is C-level waiting for?
- That’s something we will do research on in this workshop. We will also share our research on this from the recent past.
- The workshop starts with a presentation about 7 practices that a company should adopt to be able to apply DevOps.
- The technique that we use is called Appreciative Inquiry. To tackle a problem, it discovers the best practices that work, the reason they work and how these combined practices can be used to avoid the problem ahead and create a strategic change. The aim is to build – or even rebuild – organizations around what works, rather than trying to fix what doesn’t.
- So we want to know what your boss is afraid of and what you have already tried to convince him that he is better off with DevOps. You will leave the workshop with the combined Appreciative Inquiry insights of all the attendees

Continuous Testing: A Key to DevOps SuccessTechWell
As IT organizations adopt a DevOps strategy, continuous testing (CT) becomes a key ingredient of the DevOps ecosystem. CT enables faster release cycles, more changes per release, upfront isolation of risks, and reduced operations costs. The approach to scale the traditional automation testing infrastructure, test environments, and test data management requires a culture shift using new tools and techniques. Sujay Honnamane discusses a CT strategy for aspiring and already implemented DevOps organizations. Sujay shares examples of tools, techniques, and practical solutions that include continuous integration using the Jenkins CI server, service virtualization through CA Lisa tools, automated code coverage analysis to create impact-based tests, automated test script load balancing for effective use of test environments, and faster test cycles, providing a holistic approach/workflow for CT. Sujay and his teams have successfully implemented CT for several clients in their DevOps journey to achieve a repeatable and highly predictable software delivery process.

Climate Science Flows: Enabling Petabyte-Scale Climate Analysis with the Eart...Globus
The Earth System Grid Federation (ESGF) is a global network of data servers that archives and distributes the planet’s largest collection of Earth system model output for thousands of climate and environmental scientists worldwide. Many of these petabyte-scale data archives are located in proximity to large high-performance computing (HPC) or cloud computing resources, but the primary workflow for data users consists of transferring data, and applying computations on a different system. As a part of the ESGF 2.0 US project (funded by the United States Department of Energy Office of Science), we developed pre-defined data workflows, which can be run on-demand, capable of applying many data reduction and data analysis to the large ESGF data archives, transferring only the resultant analysis (ex. visualizations, smaller data files). In this talk, we will showcase a few of these workflows, highlighting how Globus Flows can be used for petabyte-scale climate analysis.
Why React Native as a Strategic Advantage for Startup Innovation.pdfayushiqss
Do you know that React Native is being increasingly adopted by startups as well as big companies in the mobile app development industry? Big names like Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest have already integrated this robust open-source framework.
In fact, according to a report by Statista, the number of React Native developers has been steadily increasing over the years, reaching an estimated 1.9 million by the end of 2024. This means that the demand for this framework in the job market has been growing making it a valuable skill.
But what makes React Native so popular for mobile application development? It offers excellent cross-platform capabilities among other benefits. This way, with React Native, developers can write code once and run it on both iOS and Android devices thus saving time and resources leading to shorter development cycles hence faster time-to-market for your app.
Let’s take the example of a startup, which wanted to release their app on both iOS and Android at once. Through the use of React Native they managed to create an app and bring it into the market within a very short period. This helped them gain an advantage over their competitors because they had access to a large user base who were able to generate revenue quickly for them.
We describe the deployment and use of Globus Compute for remote computation. This content is aimed at researchers who wish to compute on remote resources using a unified programming interface, as well as system administrators who will deploy and operate Globus Compute services on their research computing infrastructure.
First Steps with Globus Compute Multi-User EndpointsGlobus
In this presentation we will share our experiences around getting started with the Globus Compute multi-user endpoint. Working with the Pharmacology group at the University of Auckland, we have previously written an application using Globus Compute that can offload computationally expensive steps in the researcher's workflows, which they wish to manage from their familiar Windows environments, onto the NeSI (New Zealand eScience Infrastructure) cluster. Some of the challenges we have encountered were that each researcher had to set up and manage their own single-user globus compute endpoint and that the workloads had varying resource requirements (CPUs, memory and wall time) between different runs. We hope that the multi-user endpoint will help to address these challenges and share an update on our progress here.
Modern design is crucial in today's digital environment, and this is especially true for SharePoint intranets. The design of these digital hubs is critical to user engagement and productivity enhancement. They are the cornerstone of internal collaboration and interaction within enterprises.
Providing Globus Services to Users of JASMIN for Environmental Data AnalysisGlobus
JASMIN is the UK’s high-performance data analysis platform for environmental science, operated by STFC on behalf of the UK Natural Environment Research Council (NERC). In addition to its role in hosting the CEDA Archive (NERC’s long-term repository for climate, atmospheric science & Earth observation data in the UK), JASMIN provides a collaborative platform to a community of around 2,000 scientists in the UK and beyond, providing nearly 400 environmental science projects with working space, compute resources and tools to facilitate their work. High-performance data transfer into and out of JASMIN has always been a key feature, with many scientists bringing model outputs from supercomputers elsewhere in the UK, to analyse against observational or other model data in the CEDA Archive. A growing number of JASMIN users are now realising the benefits of using the Globus service to provide reliable and efficient data movement and other tasks in this and other contexts. Further use cases involve long-distance (intercontinental) transfers to and from JASMIN, and collecting results from a mobile atmospheric radar system, pushing data to JASMIN via a lightweight Globus deployment. We provide details of how Globus fits into our current infrastructure, our experience of the recent migration to GCSv5.4, and of our interest in developing use of the wider ecosystem of Globus services for the benefit of our user community.

17. Success Factors: Project Success
• Research at The Standish Group also indicates that smaller time frames,
with delivery of software components early and often, will increase the
success rate.
• Shorter time frames result in an iterative process of design, prototype,
develop, test, and deploy small elements. This process is known as
"growing" software, as opposed to the old concept of "developing"
software.
• Growing software engages the user earlier, each component has an owner
or a small set of owners, and expectations are realistically set. In addition,
each software component has a clear and precise statement and set of
objectives.
• Software components and small projects tend to be less complex.
• Making the projects simpler is a worthwhile endeavor because complexity
causes only confusion and increased cost.
18. Organisation (Inside-Out)
• Start at the top.
• Appoint Specialist Managers.
• Allocate people to divisions/teams.
• Communicate a strategy.
• Determine performance targets.
• Define the delivery process.
• Engage the customer.
19. Organisation (Outside-In)
• Start with the customer.
• Develop a strategy.
• Design initial process.
• Define process metrics.
• Structure to support processes.
• Appoint process managers.
• End at the top.
• Adapt & Improve.

Editor's Notes
Inigo Montoya from the 1987 romantic comedy film The Princess Bride.
We don’t want to build a new silo.
Hierarchical organisations is based on Delivery (Development and QA) and Operations.
