This document provides an overview of various Linux system administration concepts and tools, including:
- Explaining that everything is a file in Linux and describing some special files like /dev/null.
- Summarizing how to use utilities like top, iostat, vmstat, and free to monitor system performance.
- Describing how to use find, locate, xargs to search for files and sed/awk to manipulate text.
- Explaining how processes can still have open file handles even if the files are deleted and how lsof can identify these situations.
- Summarizing how to use cron, logrotate, and Upstart to automate tasks and manage processes and services

This document explains how to use docker container in Ubuntu 14.04 VM for trying out cgroups without actually using the host/guest operating system. It talks about using 'cpu' subcomponent and demostrates the effect of process isolation by 'htop' utility.
The docker containers are very effective way of trying out things by launching a container using standard/custom docker image from docker hub or your own image repository.
Cette présentation vous montrera comment utiliser et profiter rapidement de Docker, quelles commandes utiliser et quelles fonctionnalités sont disponibles.

The perl on most linux distros is a mess. Docker makes it easier to build and packge a local perl and applications. Problem is that Docker's manuals produce a mess of their own.
Distributing perl on top of Gentoo's stage3 distro, busybox, or nothing at all made good alternatives. This talk includes basics of setting up docker, building a local perl for it, and packaging perl or applications into images for use in containers.
Beyond Golden Containers: Complementing Docker with Puppetlutter
Often, Docker or more generally containers and immutable infrastructure are viewed as a replacement for configuration management. This talk explains why that is not the case, and that they are in fact complementary.
Containers move the challenges that configuration management solves to different places in the application lifecycle. The talk explains where Puppet fits into this changed lifecycle, and what tools Puppet provides there.

Shared Object images in Docker: What you need is what you want.Workhorse Computing
Docker images require appropriate shared object files (".so") to run. Rather than assume Ubuntu has the correct lib's, use ldd to get a list and install the ones you know you need. This can reduce the underlying images from GB to a few MB.

Automatic systems installations and change management wit FAI - Talk for Netw...Henning Sprang
How long does it take you, to recover an arbitrary server, or duplicate an arbitrary running configuration to a new system? Especially in the latter case without a full-backup, which would contain a wrong IP Address, Hostname and other things and would therefore eventually break some things - and are storage-exhaustive.
Get into FAI - Fully Automatic Installation.
FAI http://www.informatik.uni-koeln.de/fai/) is a framework for completely automated installations - via LAN, CD or USB stick, as well as configuration management for running systems. The concept "Plan your installation, and FAi installs your plan" supports, but also requires building a well planned and documented infrastructure. Configuration properties can be defined into the smallest possible Detail, and then be arbitrarily combined - a great advantage in environments with many different system types, which at the same time share one or multiple common bases and settings. FAI makes it possible to install and change many different systems at the same time.
In addition to all these things, with the grml-live software, FAI can even be used to build live cd's/usb sticks. This talk will give an overview of the functionality and possibilities of FAI, including a comparison with the also renowned software for similar, but not completely the same tasks, Puppet - which can even be integrated into FAI.

58. Waxing Philosophical
There is one system, not a collection of systems.
The desired state of the system should be a known
quantity.
The "known quantity" must be machine parseable.
The actual state of the system must self-correct to the
desired state.
The only authoritative source for the actual state of the
system is the system.
The entire system must be deployable using source media
and text files
