1. Clearly defining significant heritage areas and creating historic districts is useful for involving residents in heritage development and preservation. It defines not just buildings but their relationships.
2. Urban density, spatial patterns, and internal boundaries are crucial heritage elements, and maintaining former densities and activity levels should be a planning goal. Education can help locals understand planning objectives.
3. Divulging the social and aesthetic values embodied in industrial buildings and streets through heritage images and references can help transmit heritage to current citizens and is viewed positively.
Base on a strong ‘face to face meetings’ legacy, the Office de consultation publique de Montreal (OCPM) acknowledges that citizens and civil society groups are using different types of technologies and new medias to express their opinions, to get informed and to create online communities. This societal transformation led us to begin a long reflection on how to integrate these rich online contents and how to innovate through a hybrid methodology.

Street space and informality: towards an inclusive communityJimly Faraby
This paper summarizes the evolution of views about street, and describes some empirical evidences from several cases showing the potentiality of street to bring inclusive community. From such cases, informal utilization of street space seems to be one of key factors to bring social interaction in street space, especially in developing countries. Therefore, while government’s attitude toward informality is often cumbersome, apparently informality needs to be taken into account in urban planning and design process in developing countries, including Indonesia, to stimulate social life in urban area.

RV 2014: Delivering Complex Projects: The Coordination Component by Jean Sene...Rail~Volution
Delivering Complex Projects: The Coordination Component
Urban transit projects -- with their linear nature -- involve multiple jurisdictions, neighborhoods and private sector interests. Effectively moving projects through construction and operations requires considerable coordination and collaboration, particularly in today's financially constrained, politically-charged climate. Getting it right can mean the difference between waiting an entire generation to open your next major transit project. Learn the key strategies and methods behind three successfully implemented projects -- in Minneapolis; Charlotte; and Portland. Hear three perspectives from an owner/operator, from the key local partner jurisdiction and from the regional/political point of view. Strategies and specific components of cross-jurisdictional coordination? Creative problem-solving techniques? You'll get it all here!

In this letter, we describe a convergence of batch gradient method with a penalty condition term for a
narration feed forward neural network called pi-sigma neural network, which employ product cells as the
output units to inexplicit amalgamate the capabilities of higher-order neural networks while using a
minimal number of weights and processing units. As a rule, the penalty term is condition proportional to
the norm of the weights. The monotonicity of the error function with the penalty condition term in the
training iteration is firstly proved and the weight sequence is uniformly bounded. The algorithm is applied
to carry out for 4-dimensional parity problem and Gabor function problem to support our theoretical
findings.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

2. 1. Clearly define the most
significant areas is a useful idea
• Delineate and/or create the limits of heritage significant areas is a good
first step to involve residents of specific areas on Heritage development.
• For this reason, Historic Districts are a very useful legal definition, as
they include not only buildings, but also relations among different
elements, as streets or public spaces.
3. 2. Urban density is a crux factor
• Been spatial pattern a very relevant Heritage element, changes forced
by lack of activity have a strong impact
• Increasing lots surface is also a major factor which dilutes Heritage
values
• To maintain former densities and fluxes will be never a planning goal
• Education on resources, spatial planning, and internal boundaries can
help locals grasps planning objectives.
4. 3. The best way for local
involvement in planning is through
Heritage image and values
divulgation
• Industrial buildings and streets achieve
host social and aesthetic values that can
be transmitted to the citizens of the
present
• For most people, Heritage references ,
even in new buildings, are highly
positive
• Imaging offers way forward to bring
about understanding in diverse
population which affords valuation.
5. 4. Old fact0ries are the best place for new industries
Creative industy quarters are perfect for old
neighborhood factories to bring about equity in
the marketplace for underserved residents to
find employment and remain connected with
Heritage.
PonyRide a non profit organization receives low
market rate rent since they utilize the
underemployed in jobs to create functional ítems
for underserved sectors of community; Building
non gentrified management of Heritage spaces.
6. 5. Main heritage spots can benefit from development
agreements; planning cannot accommodate alone
• Prominent buildings required large investments, and its management
can be even more complex.
• On the contrary, they may be less relevant, more easily retrievable and
more impact on the environment elements.
• Crafted effective negotiations of development can produce leverage in
which the planning process can engage community benefit outcomes.
7. 6. Too many heritage elements can lead to confusion,
difficult to founds assignment
When a large number of heritage
elements are on play, classifying
and ranking them is critical to
properly invest resources that will
be always scarce.
8. 7. Public transport is a main issue
• Historic public transport has
few possibilities to survive, but
if possible, it can derive itself as
a great cultural resource (San
Francisco tram)
• To select adequate public
transport systems is a key factor
to strengthen the image of the
site, its sense of place, and
belonging.
• A system which generates
excessive contrast with the
structure of the city tend to
dilute the semantic values.
9. 8. When industry has gone, sometimes
agriculture can take its place…
