2. Seven.
Seven was significant to the choices I made towards
the making of my film as, the genre of the film is a
crime/mystery, which is the genre of my film. Also, the
two main characters in the film are Detectives, one of
which is a rookie - this is a similar type of character to
the Detective character in my film.
3. Seven – Camera work in the
opening scene.
The scene starts at a long shot, this allows you to see the layout of
one of the Detectives bedrooms (the elder detective) This allows
the audience to associate themselves with this character. The
camera then goes to a close up of a clock, this highlights that this
man is used to routines and signifies that this dynamic is about to
be disrupted.
4. Seven – Title sequence.
The titles for Seven create a very uneasy atmosphere, this is as a result of the font
that is used and what they appear over. The font is very messy as if a kid had
written it and it appears in front of pages and pages of writing, body parts and
frequently appears in front of somebody doing something out of the ordinary. This
intrigues the audience, enticing them to watch on. The titles fit with the genre which
is a crime/mystery as it clearly portrays that something bad has/will happen, yet
manages to not give anything away. The colour red also appears which is
frequently used to represent death.
5. Seven – Lighting in the
opening scene.
The lighting is very dim, this helps to set the scene for a crime and
mystery film as it gives off a very uneasy feeling, the darkness helps to
portray secrets as, the dark hides things, unlike if the lighting was bright
nothing would be hidden. The darkness almost causes the audience to be
afraid, even more so it prepares them for the horrors that lie ahead.
6. Seven – Sound in the opening
scene.
The music that plays while the credits are gong up is very thrilling, it
creates a very dramatic and suspenseful atmosphere. The song is ‘Closer’
by Nine inch nails: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfHpRe0rRe0
The diagetic sound that was used was that of a ticking noise to go along
with the clock, this sound helped to build up suspense, it made the
audience think something was going to happen, however nothing did end
up happening – building up the suspense just to let them back down
again.
