I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standard The learner demonstrates understanding of how Philippine Literature
under the Period of Emergence and other text types through using
different reading, listening, and viewing strategies, world relationships and
associations, direct/reported speech, passive/active voice, simple past and
past perfect tenses, and sentence connectors; employing the appropriate
oral language and stance in informative speech forms to express ideas,
opinions, feelings and emotions; serve as a tools to assert one’s identity in
a diverse society.
B. Performance Standard The learner proficiently participates in a simple debate about asserting
identity in a diverse society.
C. Learning Competencies At the end of the session, the learner should be able to:
define general statement and supporting statements
distinguish general statement from specific statements in a text
work actively and cooperatively in a group
cite textual evidence to support general statements

How’s your day? I hope we all feel good. Before
we will start let’s check your attendance.
The teacher reminds the learner of the class
rules.
Let’s have first a review of our past lesson. Last
time we discussed about Belief and Conviction.
Anyone, who can differentiate belief from
conviction?
Now, that you have already learned how to
express your own belief and conviction, let’s now
proceed to our new lesson

Before we proceed to our new lesson, let’s have
first this activity.
1. What can you see on the board? In what
continent does our country Philippines located?
Very Good!
2. What are the three major islands of the
Philippines? Which island is the largest one? The
smallest?
3. Which island does our province Antique
belongs to?
5. What are the provinces found in Luzon?
Visayas? Mindanao?
Instruct the learner to look at the map and write
their answers on the board.

6. In what subject did you learn about Philippine
archipelago?
Very good! I’m happy to know that you can still
remember your lessons in your AP subject.

Reading text:
The Filipinos have a unique taste most
especially in the food that they eat. They came
up with different sauce to entice their appetite.
Bagoong is a famous sauce in our
country. It is made from fish which tastes
delicious when served with vegetables. Cebu’s
lechon sauce is also a sauce to remember. It
brings out the juicy taste of lechon. Ilocos has
also its special vinegar. It taste awesome with
many food most especially with bagnet. For
those who wants sweets, we have latik. It is syrup
made from coconut which tastes like honey. It is
usually used as a sauce for suman. Lastly, the
patis or fish sauce is the extracted juice from fish
which tastes delicious with different Filipino
dishes such as sinigang and nilaga. Patis is the
trademark of the Filipinos when it comes to
sauce.
These are just some of the famous sauce
from our country. How about you? What is the
famous sauce in your place?

If you notice that sentence # 1 is more general
and the rest are more specific, then you are
correct!
(In this activity the teacher use a graphic
organizer. The teacher explain that graphic
organizer is an example of non-linear text which
was discussed in the previous Quarter.)
Statements are classified as general and specific.
General Statement is a main idea that is
supported by specific statements or details. The
main idea can be identified by asking:
 What key point does the author want
me to know about the topic?
 Who is this all about?
 What is this text all about?
Supporting Statement are the details or small
ideas that reinforce the main idea or the general
statement. Supporting details are specific
information such as facts, examples, reasons,
facts or statistics that elaborate or explain about
the general statement or main idea. Specific

2. We need water for drinking, cooking, bathing,
cleaning, and watering the plants. Water has
many uses.

Specific Statement/s: We need water for
drinking, cooking, bathing, cleaning, and
watering the plants.
Differentiated Activity:
Group the learners into (5). Assign a leader and a
scribe for each group. Call the leaders and
distribute the cards. Instruct the learners to
perform the task.
(In this activity, the teacher grouped the
advanced learner with the average learner.)
Group 1: Create a poster of a famous tourist
spot in your place. Write its unique features in at
least (4) sentences.
Group 2: Create a slogan of the nutritional value
that people can get from eating the famous food
in your place.
Group 3: Compose a jingle that highlights the
importance of washing our hands properly.
Group 4: Make a recipe written in paragraph
form. The recipe should entice other people to
eat the said food.
Group 5: Make an announcement about an
important event in your school. You are free to
create your design to make your announcement
attractive.

I. Read and distinguish the following underlined
sentences as either the general statement or the
specific statement.
1. It is not hard to understand why he failed.
He was naturally lazy and would not exert
effort to study his lesson.
2. We have many delicious dishes from
different parts of Luzon. From the Central
Luzon comes paksiw, milkfish cooked in
vinegar and ginger with a dash of salt.
3. When family conflicts arise as a result of
divorce, adolescent suffer. During the first
year, these young people may be
depressed due to conflicts between the
custodial and non-custodial parents.
4. My hometown is famous for several
amazing natural features. First, it is noted
for the Malumpati Cold spring for its cold
and clear freshwater.
5. Dogs are in many ways like human
beings. When we like people, we smile
with them; dogs wag their tails to express
their liking for others.

your work.
Text:
Exercise is crucial in our lives. Doctors
recommend we exercise at least two times a
week. Exercise does not necessarily need to be
done in the gym; it can consist of an outdoor
walk or ride a bike. It not only controls weight,
but it combats many health conditions and
diseases. Another added benefit of exercise is its
mood boosting qualities.

  • 1. Detailed Lesson Plan in English 7 School: Lirio M. Escaño National High School Teacher: Nelissa Pearl S. Coloma Learning Area: English 7 Grade Level: Grade 7 Teaching Date: March 03, 2023 I. OBJECTIVES A. Content Standard The learner demonstrates understanding of how Philippine Literature under the Period of Emergence and other text types through using different reading, listening, and viewing strategies, world relationships and associations, direct/reported speech, passive/active voice, simple past and past perfect tenses, and sentence connectors; employing the appropriate oral language and stance in informative speech forms to express ideas, opinions, feelings and emotions; serve as a tools to assert one’s identity in a diverse society. B. Performance Standard The learner proficiently participates in a simple debate about asserting identity in a diverse society. C. Learning Competencies At the end of the session, the learner should be able to: define general statement and supporting statements distinguish general statement from specific statements in a text work actively and cooperatively in a group cite textual evidence to support general statements in a text EN7RC-IV-g-10.4 II. Procedure Teacher’s Activity Learner’s Activity Preliminaries Greetings Prayer Checking of Attendance Class Rules Review of the previous lesson Establishing a purpose of the Lesson Good morning, class! May I request _______to lead us a prayer? How’s your day? I hope we all feel good. Before we will start let’s check your attendance. The teacher reminds the learner of the class rules. Let’s have first a review of our past lesson. Last time we discussed about Belief and Conviction. Anyone, who can differentiate belief from conviction? Now, that you have already learned how to express your own belief and conviction, let’s now proceed to our new lesson Present the objectives to the class. Call a volunteer to read the objectives. Good Morning, Ma’am Coloma! Let us pray.. Present, Ma’am. Belief is something an individual consider as the truth, while conviction is a firm belief on something that an individual is convinced of. A learner will read the objectives of the lesson.

What can you see on the board? In what continent does our country Philippines located? Very Good! 2. What are the three major islands of the Philippines? Which island is the largest one? The smallest? 3. Which island does our province Antique belongs to? 5. What are the provinces found in Luzon? Visayas? Mindanao? Instruct the learner to look at the map and write their answers on the board. Well done! 6. In what subject did you learn about Philippine archipelago? Very good! I’m happy to know that you can still remember your lessons in your AP subject. What have you notice in this activity? If you notice that this activity has something to do with general to specific, then you are correct! Vocabulary Development Word Fiesta Tell the learners that in the next activity they will discover the different sauces in the Philippines. A B I can see a map of the Philippines. Asia, ma’am. Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao, Ma’am. Luzon… Visayas Visayas Volunteer learners will come to the board and to the activity. Araling Panlipunan, ma’am! Learners will match the statement A with its meaning in column B.

Reading text: The Filipinos have a unique taste most especially in the food that they eat. They came up with different sauce to entice their appetite. Bagoong is a famous sauce in our country. It is made from fish which tastes delicious when served with vegetables. Cebu’s lechon sauce is also a sauce to remember. It brings out the juicy taste of lechon. Ilocos has also its special vinegar. It taste awesome with many food most especially with bagnet. For those who wants sweets, we have latik. It is syrup made from coconut which tastes like honey. It is usually used as a sauce for suman. Lastly, the patis or fish sauce is the extracted juice from fish which tastes delicious with different Filipino dishes such as sinigang and nilaga. Patis is the trademark of the Filipinos when it comes to sauce. These are just some of the famous sauce from our country. How about you? What is the famous sauce in your place? Process questions: 1. What does this text mainly talk about? 2. What is the famous sauce in our country? The learners will read the passage.
  • 4. Analysis Abstraction 3. What are the different sauce mentioned in the text? What food do you think will be the perfect match for this sauce? Do you agree? 4. Which do you think tastes delicious on all kinds of food? Do you agree? 1. The Filipinos have a unique taste most especially in the food that they eat. 2. Bagoong is a famous sauce in our country. 3. Cebu’s lechon sauce is also a sauce to remember. 4. Patis or fish sauce is the trademark of the Filipinos when it comes to sauce. 5. Latik is a syrup made from coconut used as a sauce for suman. What do you notice in sentence # 1? How about sentence #2,3,4,5? Are they the same? If you notice that sentence # 1 is more general and the rest are more specific, then you are correct! (In this activity the teacher use a graphic organizer. The teacher explain that graphic organizer is an example of non-linear text which was discussed in the previous Quarter.) Statements are classified as general and specific. General Statement is a main idea that is supported by specific statements or details. The main idea can be identified by asking:  What key point does the author want me to know about the topic?  Who is this all about?  What is this text all about? Supporting Statement are the details or small ideas that reinforce the main idea or the general statement. Supporting details are specific information such as facts, examples, reasons, facts or statistics that elaborate or explain about the general statement or main idea. Specific Different sauce or Famous sauce from our country. Bagoong. bagoong.. special vinegar..latik..lechon sauce.. patis For me,… bagoong taste delicious on all kinds of food.   • 5. Application statements answer the who, what, where, when and why about the topic. Let study more examples: 1. Bantay, my dog is fun to play with. It follows me around the house with a toy and drops it on my foot. It can catch just about anything. General Statement: Bantay, my dog is fun to play with. Specific Statement/s: It follows me around the house with a toy and drops it on my foot. It can catch just about anything. 2. We need water for drinking, cooking, bathing, cleaning, and watering the plants. Water has many uses. General Statement: Water has many uses. Specific Statement/s: We need water for drinking, cooking, bathing, cleaning, and watering the plants. Differentiated Activity: Group the learners into (5). Assign a leader and a scribe for each group. Call the leaders and distribute the cards. Instruct the learners to perform the task. (In this activity, the teacher grouped the advanced learner with the average learner.) Group 1: Create a poster of a famous tourist spot in your place. Write its unique features in at least (4) sentences. Group 2: Create a slogan of the nutritional value that people can get from eating the famous food in your place. Group 3: Compose a jingle that highlights the importance of washing our hands properly. Group 4: Make a recipe written in paragraph form. The recipe should entice other people to eat the said food. Group 5: Make an announcement about an important event in your school. You are free to create your design to make your announcement attractive. How did you find the activity? Was it easy? Let the students present their output.  How does general statement differ from supporting details?  Where can we usually find the general statement? Learners will try to distinguish general and specific statement. The learners will work actively and cooperatively with their pair.
  • 6. Generalization Evaluation/Assessment  Why is it important to know how to distinguish general statement and supporting details in reading selections? Written Test (½ crosswise) I. Read and distinguish the following underlined sentences as either the general statement or the specific statement. 1. It is not hard to understand why he failed. He was naturally lazy and would not exert effort to study his lesson. 2. We have many delicious dishes from different parts of Luzon. From the Central Luzon comes paksiw, milkfish cooked in vinegar and ginger with a dash of salt. 3. When family conflicts arise as a result of divorce, adolescent suffer. When we like people, we smile with them; dogs wag their tails to express their liking for others. II. Read the text, and identify the general statement or the main idea and the supporting statements. Use the graphic organizer to present your work. Text: Exercise is crucial in our lives. Doctors recommend we exercise at least two times a week. Exercise does not necessarily need to be done in the gym; it can consist of an outdoor walk or ride a bike. It not only controls weight, but it combats many health conditions and diseases. Another added benefit of exercise is its mood boosting qualities. Write your answer in your English notebook. Answer What I Can Do-Activity 5 on page 9 of your module. General statement is the main point and what the text is all about. Supporting details are ideas that reinforce the main idea. It can usually be seen in the first or last sentence but not all the time. It will help you to easily comprehend the main message of the text.
