A few years ago, I started looking into one of the most pressing challenges of our time: the alarming rate at which we are depleting our planet's resources, leaving behind huge quantities of useless waste. It soon appeared that to steer away from the dead-end of "take-make-dispose", raising awareness on sustainability would not be enough. We will have to change our entire system. Together with game designer Sofía Montuori, I founded the social enterprise inaloop games to contribute to the transition to a circular economy.

4. The quote
“Complexity cannot be simplified – that is the moral of the
system paradigm. It is
complex because it forces us to unite ideas which are
mutually exclusive."
Edgard Morin
5. Definition
A complex set of elements interacting dynamically and
organized to fulfill a certain purpose.
Although a system is open and has an evolving structure, it
retains a unique identity through time.
Properties of systems are complexity, interactions, emergence
and teleonomy.
system, n.
11. How can we bring about
change in a complex system
where different entities have
different goals and
interests… but still need to
make the shift together?
15. Definition
A circular economy is one that is restorative and regenerative
by design, and which aims to keep products, components and
materials at their highest utility and value at all times,
distinguishing between technical and biological cycles.

circular economy, adj., n.
19. The quote
"Game design isn't just a technological craft. It's a twenty-
first-century way of thinking and leading.
And gameplay isn't just a pastime.
It's a twenty-first-century way of working together to
accomplish real change."
Jane McGonigal
28. Operating principles
Working with intention goes a long way…
→Question the teleology of systems
→Empower people to be agents of change
→Build safe-to-fail environments
→Affirm non-judgement to allow emergence

Editor's Notes
Complex and evolving
Can interact with other systems and changes constantly, but keeps its identity
Of relational nature
Composed of multiple interactions and interdependences between subsystems
Has emerging features
Interactions creates results that cannot be found in the individual parts
Has emerging features
Interactions creates results that cannot be found in the individual parts
We cannot expect to change a system by changing only individual parts
Answer: work on relations
Answer: work on relations
Cooperation – restorative - value
Changing business models means change at all levels of the organisation
