Effective meeting design is the artful expression of today’s creative leader. Thoughtful preparation is key to generating the results you want to create within your team, project, department, and organization.
Reports show that the average worker loses at much as 31 hours a month to unproductive meetings. That's four work days each month and that 1/2 of all meetings are unnecessary.
The multitasking environment of today often leaves little room for focusing on what’s important in organizing, designing, and leading effective meetings. Meeting leaders are often stymied in the land of overwhelm spinning on the hamster wheel of too many meetings, too little time, too little attention, and too few meaningful results. Futility and frustration permeate the collective response to meetings.
Sound familiar?
It doesn’t have to be this way.
You can make a difference. Try something new!
Move from disengaged time wasting meetings that frustrate and confuse to thoughtful meeting design that yield greater efficiencies, add clarity, engage everyone’s skills and talents, and build valuable contributions from you, your people, your projects, and the products and services you are working to deliver.

Solving meaningful problems requires collaboration across multiple disciplines. Adaptive and learning oriented organizations actively work towards breaking down silos, in order to enable a culture of collaboration. Their nimbleness becomes their super power when it comes to creating exceptional user experiences. Achieving true collaboration though, is hard work. The journey towards it is akin to therapy for the organization. It requires deep reflection, courage to accept challenges, commitment to work on them, and most of all, embracing vulnerability.
This talk will focus on how service blueprinting can be used a therapeutic tool to kick-start these conversations, and help an organization reflect, learn and grow.

Ticketing Professionals webinar: What to do now, what to do next Ash Mann
Ash Mann, Substrakt's Managing Director spoke as part of the Ticketing Professionals Conference's webinar series which replaced the cancelled 2020 conference.
The cultural sector has been through an enforced, rushed programme of digital transformation. We need to review our thinking around all of our digital activity to set ourselves up for success as we come out of the current Covid-19 crisis.
From strategy, mission, values and brand through to systems and tooling, focusing on user experience, and how we gather and use data, what got us to where we are today is unlikely to be what will serve us best in the long run.
Darden School of Business professor Jeanne Liedtka continues her webinar series on 'Evaluating the Impact of Design Thinking', this time as part of MURAL Imagine, focusing on the ‘social technology’ aspect of design thinking.

A selection of benefits (and some challenges) on how Service Design can help your company.
So you know about service design, but... would it work for your company?
Presented on 3/16/2014 as Keynote for the MXConference.
Change in an organization is really hard. This is especially true when a company that was once on the forefront of innovation finds itself having lost that luster through its own growth & success. The last couple of years there has been a transformation happening at PayPal that is touching every part of the organization to make it innovative again. At the heart of this change is a new, close partnership between design and engineering.
Can your organization be changed? From Bill’s experience at Yahoo!, Netflix, PayPal and consulting with numerous companies he believes there are some core principles you can employ to drive transformation that are all centered around the customer. The question Bill will explore is “How can design be the catalyst for that change?” While this talk will be inspirational, it will take an honest (and humorous) look at what has worked and what hasn’t worked so well in trying to scale change.
When UX strategy drives innovation, the end result is more than technical capability and beautiful interfaces: it is an experience differentiated by helping people surpass their goals and exceeding their expectations while delivering engaging, motivating, enjoyable, and memorable experiences. How can we plan and work toward new products and services while keeping the user in mind? How can we adopt and implement UX strategy? And, most importantly, how can we change the way we identify and pursue new opportunities so that we are leading the pack rather than chasing the competition? Take UX out of the design studio and include it in strategic research and planning to drive innovation in your business.

Many companies today strive to be “thought leaders,” but only a select few truly live up to that aspiration. Thought leadership requires a unique point of view, the ability to provide valuable information, and a layered approach to disseminating that information. For the few companies who achieve it, thought leadership is proven to drive long-term and higher-value customer relationships and increase brand affinity and loyalty.
Stacey King Gordon of Suite Seven led a workshop during LoyaltyExpo 2014 in Orlando, Florida. The workshop explored what makes a thought leader, best practices for thought leadership, and how to develop a publishing and content strategy to help companies grow into true thought leaders — helping with everything from navigating internal politics to prioritizing resources.
