Descriptive Essays Samples
Crafting an essay on the topic of "Descriptive Essays Samples" can pose a unique set of
challenges. While the subject itself suggests a focus on descriptive writing, the difficulty arises
from the need to not only understand the principles of descriptive writing but also to find
compelling and diverse examples to illustrate those principles effectively.
One of the primary hurdles is the demand for creativity and eloquence in describing various
scenarios, objects, or experiences. It requires a keen observational skill set to capture the essence
of the chosen samples and articulate them in a way that engages the reader's senses and
imagination. Striking the right balance between vivid detail and concise expression is crucial, as
overly verbose descriptions may dilute the impact of the essay.
Moreover, selecting appropriate samples that showcase different aspects of descriptive writing
adds another layer of complexity. A comprehensive exploration of the topic involves delving into
a variety of subjects and scenarios, ensuring a well-rounded understanding of the nuances
involved in crafting descriptive essays. This necessitates extensive research and a discerning eye
for identifying samples that not only align with the chosen theme but also contribute to the
overall coherence and richness of the essay.
Additionally, organizing the content in a logical and seamless manner is pivotal. Transitioning
between different examples while maintaining a cohesive narrative flow requires careful
planning and thoughtful structuring. The challenge lies in presenting a harmonious blend of
descriptive passages, each contributing to the overarching theme of the essay without feeling
disjointed or forced.
In conclusion, tackling an essay on "Descriptive Essays Samples" demands a combination of
creativity, analytical thinking, and effective communication skills. Navigating through the
intricacies of descriptive writing while selecting and presenting compelling examples can be a
formidable task. However, with diligence and a strategic approach, one can overcome these
challenges to produce an engaging and insightful essay.

22 Short Rimfire Cartridge
The .22 caliber small diameter projectile was one of the first small diameter
projectiles introduced and has been developed and adapted for over a century
becoming the most popular small bore caliber in history. While most shooters
automatically jump to .22 LR when they hear .22 caliber, however there are
hundreds of variations of the .22 caliber loadings and cartridges. The .22 Short
rimfire cartridge is one of the longest running .22 caliber cartridges still in
production, it was introduced in 1857 for use in a Smith Wesson revolver1. This
development went on to lead to the .22 long, .22 extra long and a whole lineage of
.22 caliber rimfire cartridges all the way to the .22 WMR in 1959, another very
popular .22 rimfire design that has recently been giving the .22LR a run for its
money. The .22 caliber bullet continued on to be developed into centerfire... Show

the US military in the Vietnam War for use in the M16 rifle. Its military adoption
led to its surge in popularity, though its reception was a hard one due to
misconceptions about it ability to kill. The .22 is still being used and developed to
this day. From new innovations like the 5.7x28mm or the .22 TCM the .22

Analysis Of Michael Jackson s The King Of Pop Essay

Urban Social Identity (URB 630)
Fall 2016 Final Paper
MICHAEL JACKSON, A.K.A. KING OF POP
Introduction
Michael Jackson s global iconic status has won him a lot of respect in the
entertainment industry. His legendary work in the modern urban social identity has
been strikingly phenomenal. But as a human being, there are many flaws that
characterize his personality.
In this essay, I analyze Michael Jackson s contribution to the entertainment industry,
his global identity, his message for authority on environment, his social life, his
moral life, and the many legal battles he had to fight. This is followed by a summary
of my main arguments before drawing conclusion to my essay.
Background Michael was born on August 29th 1958 in Gary, Indiana and is the
seventh child of Joseph and Katherine Esther Jackson. The African American
entertainer, singer, and songwriter did not have any formal education.
However, he was naturally talented and very successful with his work, in spite of
his little academic background. He made his musical debut as early as age five when
his group Jackson 5, performed in Motown, Los Angeles.
Contribution to the Entertainment Industry
Michael Jackson, the self acclaimed King of Pop, justified his career title with
numerous hit albums ranging from Thriller, ABC, The Love You Save, I ll Be There,
Ben, Off the Wall, Beat It, Billie Jean, and many more.
His musical prowess reached the crescendo in the early 1980s with
The Impact Of Emission Trading
My business idea is to create a personal emission trading system, which will help
governments to meet their emission targets and it motivate the citizens to live an
ecofriendly life style. Industry, market and Competition Industry Emission trading is
a new industry in North America but once it grows, it will be one of the largest

In the future, there are chances to have alternatives to emission trading Bargaining
power of customers The customers for the emission trading system are the
corporates who buy carbon credit and the individuals who sell their carbon credits
to the system. The bargaining power of the corporations are very high but the
bargaining power of individual customers are relatively low Bargaining power of
Suppliers The suppliers to this business are the companies, which help to build the
IT infrastructure. There are many companies in the market which provide mobile
application development and other IT infrastructure. So the bargaining power of
suppliers are low. Industry Rivalry The emission trading is in the beginning stage in
Canada, so the Industry rivalry is low.Market In the initial phase, business model is

Philosophical Beliefs of Edmund Husserl and Heidegger
and...
and why is it important?
Phenomenology is a philosophical movement which emerged at the end of the
nineteenth century in the school of Franz Brentano. It was developed by Edmund
Husserl and subsequently modified by his successors Heidegger and Merleau Ponty
and Sarte among many others. It is hard to summarise their shared philosophical
beliefs as one as each had differing views on what phenomenology should entail. For
the purpose of this essay I will examine phenomenology in general, what it
accomplished and why it is important. The birth of phenomenology is said to have
begun with Husserl s book Logical Investigations which was written at the beginning
of the twentieth century.
Phenomenology is made up of two Greek words: phainesthai which Heidegger takes
to mean to make appear and phos which is translated as bring into the light .
Phenomenology grasps the essence of phenomena in the manner that it candidly
shows itself, without applying external theories to phenomena. Husserl writes that
throughout phenomenology one must have the courage to accept what is really to be
seen in the phenomenon precisely as it presents itself rather than interpreting it away,
and to honestly describe it. All theories must be directed accordingly. It is the first
person s conscious experience. Primary philosophical issues are looked at through the
ways in which things come to light through the first person s conscious experience.
Husserl describes phenomenological description as
Why Did The Spanish Lose The Aztec War
The Aztecs and the Spanish had a conflict many years ago. While many viewpoints
exist, The defeat of the Aztecs at the hands of the Spanish conquistadors was
unavoidable because of many reasons. Three of the many reasons why the Aztecs
lost are: The Spanish were, greedy, and were conquerors before, Spanish had
advanced technology and weapons, and the Aztecs were strongly devoted to their
religion. Overall, it is clear that the conflict and defeat of the Aztecs was unavoidable.
One reason why the Aztecs lost was because the Spanish knew how to conquer lands
because they had done it before. They had strategies that far exceeded those of the
Aztecs. On the other side, the Aztecs had never left their homeland and did not know
about the other cultures. Even though they had conquered some people, they weren t
good at strategically planning their attacks they went all out aggressive and believed
that the gods would help them in the battle. The Spanish prepared before hand so
they could have a better chance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While the Aztecs did have some great weapons, the Spanish had a lot better weapons
than the Aztecs. One of the Spanish weapons, the Crossbow was a long ranged
weapon that was better than the Aztec spear thrower. It was more accurate, had more
range, and didn t rely on human strength as much. As far as technology goes, the
Aztecs did not have much. They relied a lot on simple and old technology. Their
weapons were made easily and did not require as much resources. Weapons like the
spear was easily made, but if it was easily made it was also easily broken. Their
weapons were fragile but because of their strength they were able to defeat their foes.
In the battle against the Spanish, the Aztec failed because of how better the Spanish
weapons were, strength alone was not able to withstand the Spanish

Gender Roles Of Odysseus And Penelope In Homer s
Odyssey
Traditional gender roles unfortunately remain an influential part of society today. In
some parts of the world, it is illegal for women to do anything without the permission
or sometimes even accompaniment of a male guardian. While it is true that the world
has made considerable progress in eliminating gender stereotypes overall, there is
much work that has yet to be done, and people must continue to strive for equality in
order to eliminate unhealthy relationships like that of Odysseusand Penelopein Homer
s Odyssey. The epic poem explores Odysseus unnecessarily long journey home after
helping Greece win the Trojan War while his wife Penelope waits for him in Ithaca.
The contrast between Penelope s faithfulness at home and how Odysseus often strays
from his path of return, in many cases by being unfaithful to his wife, highlights the
traditional expectations set for men and women during this time and how differently
they are supposed to behave.
Odysseus yearning for adventure spurs him to explore the many places he
encounters without having a need to, causing his route home to be particularly
indirect. After landing on the island of the Cyclops, Odysseus deems it a good
idea for him to explore the island, even though he knows that the people he meet
may not be friendly. He takes a group of men to find out what the mainland natives
are / for they may be wild savages and lawless, / or hospitable and god fearing men
(Book IX, 187 189). Odysseus is putting himself and

The Difference Between Sex and Gender
In today s society sex and gender seem to have two separate connotative meanings.
Sex is a more scientific term that explains physical traits and sexual preferences.
Gender carries a more social tone. Meaning that it refers to the different clothing,
activities, career choices, and positions people hold in society. A person s social
status helps separate or classify the two sexes. br br Sex is the total sum of physical
characteristics that distinguish males and females from each other. The most
distinctive difference in characteristics is that man and women have different
reproductive organs. This is pretty obvious and so are other traits like facial hair,
deep voices, and muscular builds. It is not often that you see a six foot five... Show

With the rapid changes in gender equality it is not as easy to separate sex by what a
person does for a living. What position they hold in society or a household is not a
good indication either. Years ago I could have said that if a person is a police
officer, a soldier, a fireman, a politician, a lawyer, a doctor or any type of highly
paid professional than that person must be a man. Back then this would have been a
pretty good hypothesis. The father was the man of the house. The minister was
always male and there was no such thing as women in sports. br br I could have
probably also said that if a person was a secretary, a grade school teacher, a
receptionist, a nurse, a maid, or a homemaker then that person must be a woman.
People in the female group or gender worked lower paying less demanding jobs
because It was believed that a woman could not handle the pressures that a man s
job required. br br With the absence of the father figure in many American homes
women have taken over as head of the house. They juggle home life and work to
keep their families together so that they can properly raise their children. br br
Women have broken the gender barrier in almost every sport except for football and
hockey. Some women s sports are pretty interesting to watch. I like to look at women
s track, basketball, and boxing every now
Project Organization And Management Structure
Project organization and Management Structure: As the experimental methods are
complementary to each other, but are not critically interdependent, the cooperative
design of my research plans will greatly facilitate my ability to accomplish the
specific aims. To monitor the progress and project quality, I will conduct meetings
with Prof. Battaglia on a bi weekly basis, write monthly reports that can be
incorporated into peer reviewed publications, and present my research outcomes at
lab group meetings on a quarterly term. This way I can keep on a self consistent
project monitoring process and receive essential feedback from Prof. Battaglia and
my prospective colleagues in the laboratory on a regular basis. My primary
experimental components (objectives 2, 3, and 4) can move forward synergistically
via this approach of using feedback and reinforcing the steady quality management
process. I will personally manage the scientific and technical aspects of the proposal,
including acquiring data, analyzing results, and writing manuscripts for publication.
The UCL European Research and Innovation Office (ERIO), specifically steering the
management of EU awards, will help me manage the financial part of the project.
Risks that might endanger reaching objectives and the contingency plans: The
primary risk concerns: a) structural integrity of polymersomes, b) sample
compatibility with spectroscopic approaches a) Sample preparation issues could

Religion in James Joyce s Dubliners Essay
Religion in James Joyce s Dubliners Religion was an integral part of Ireland during
the modernist period, tightly woven into the social fabric of its citizens. The Catholic
Churchwas a longstanding tradition of Ireland. In the modernist spirit of breaking
away from forces that inhibited growth, the church stood as one of the principal
barriers. This is because the Catholic faith acted as the governing force of its people,
as portrayed in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is mainly due to the fact that both adhere to a certain agreed ideas of how
people should act. The majority of any given population makes decisions on a
daily basis using both law and religion to guide their actions. However, when
matters of fairness and equity are questioned the government must make an
adhered to ruling. In the story The Boarding House , Joyce presents us with an
image of Ireland where religion is the governing force in determining equitable
situations. This is clearly apparent when Mrs. Mooney experiences trouble with
her marriage and seeks a separation. This situation is described as, She went to the
priest and got a separation from him with care of the children (72). For most
societies a situation like this would fall under the category of civil law, and be
decided in a court of law. The fact that Mrs. Mooney went to the priest to solve a
domestic dispute, and not to an attorney shows that the citizens of Ireland regarded
the church as the head figure of Ireland. Anytime that the ruling authority of a
country is anything other than its own constitution, the only outcome is a
constricted and less prosperous society. This is evident in emerging countries
where two or more political parties fighting for control of the people. When a
religion is the head of state for a country, the actions of its people are subjected to
moral and ethical beliefs. This is unfair in concept, due to the fact not all citizens of a
Acid Base Gas Case Study
After examining the acid base gas levels, the patient is diagnosed with metabolic
alkalosis with partial compensation because of the increase of base components due
to baking soda consumption and the decrease of acid components by excessive
vomiting. The patient s pH level is 7.48, which is above the normal range of 7.35
7.45 labeling it a base. A base lowers the amount of free hydrogen ions in solution
and although a weak base, it can prevent major changes in the body fluid pH. An
example of a weak base is bicarbonate or HCO3 which levels are high as well at
34mEq/L. The normal range for HCO3 is 22 24. The PaCO2 level of 55mmHg is
labeled an aciddue to its high level. The normal range is 35 45 with less than 35
resulting in alkalosis and greater than 45 as acidosis. The acid base balance of the
bloodhas an excess of base resulting in alkalosis. Alkalosis is a decrease in the free

Because of the severity of the alkalosis, the patient experienced a generalized
motor seizure caused by the overexcitement of the nervous system. The imbalance
is dangerous for an 83 year old patient because someone with alkalosis has muscle
weakness that can result in falls. Older patients taking drugs and with chronic
health problems are at greater risk for acid base imbalance due to breathing
problems as well as hypokalemia. The renal function is less effective due to thee
increased excretion of bicarbonate. (Ignatavicius, 2015). By understanding the cause
and effects of acid base imbalances, interventions can be made to ensure patient
safety and better health care. Acid base imbalances in elderly patients are dangerous
due to the increased health problems they have as well as certain drugs that are taken
that may lead to other problems such as hypokalemia and

Wound Product Selection Process
Infection control and wound product selection contribute to the wound healing
environment.
It is the hypothesis of this report that infection control and wound product selection
that is based on best practice guidelines, will enhance wound healing in patients.
According to, International Best Practice Guidelines; Wounds International, 2013,
With appropriate and careful management it is possible to delay or avoid most
serious complications . When wound care products are selected appropriately for the
patients wound, and used as instructed, they are very effective. Best practice wound
care requires the nurse to be able to follow infection control guidelines and choose
the appropriate dressing to achieve optimal healing for patients. There are many
dressings to choose from, but failing to correctly assess a wound and chose the right
dressing will delay wound healing, potentially causing further distress to the patient

Evils of Capitalism Exposed in Catch 22
That s some catch, that Catch 22 (47). Some catch indeed, for Catch 22 is the best
there is (47). A strange paradox preventing men from being grounded under any
circumstances, Catch 22 eventually evolves into a justification for doing virtually
anything. After all, it says [anyone] can do anything [that] we can t stop them from

Johnny Cash: The Research Paper!
First off let me start off by saying Johnny Cash is one of the biggest legends ever.
His music has spanned Decades and has inspired many artist all over the country, and
let s be honest, not many artists can reach these standards. He has made a huge
impact on Country, Rock and Roll, blues, and many more genres of music. But he has
also influenced the American culture through the use of his own works, thus creating
both a mixture of controversy and envy in his vast amounts of those who have heard
the tunes that belong to Cash. You may... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite Cash s heavy Drinking and devastating addiction to amphetamines, this
frantic lapse of behavior led to some of his best hits including many singles and
various hits. Cash the Self proclaimed, Man in black Stood for something, he stood
for the less fortunate. Something he took pride in, something that could be applied to
the public s understanding of his Iconic status in America and just another great
reason as to why Cash achieves legendary.
Cash s final years really shined for him. Through the last breath of his creative
works he was able to release an amazing work of art, the album, American
Recordings , produced by the also Iconic Rick Rubin who has worked with various
artists including Tom Petty, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, etc. With the final years he
was able to produce such records as Hurt a cover of the Nine Inch Nails hit single,
Lead singer Trent Rayznor stated that after cash had covered the initial hit it really
wasn t even his song anymore. Sadly, shortly after his final works were released
Cash passed away at the age of 73 on September 9th, 2003. Cash displayed a great
amount of genius in his final years that really show why he is still remembered today.
However with the passing of Johnny Cash, A legacy shadowed what was an amazing
life of an american icon. His rebellious image has cast an influence for many artist
and has even been payed tribute by many artist as well. Many things have happened
since his death relating to him. One
The Andromeda Strain By Michael Crichton
Every man makes mistakes, that is part of being a human being, and we can use
these mistakes to learn and adapt in the future. Some blunders however, are more
dire than others. When a team of scientists working at a top secret installation, who
just happen to be researching a deadly new virus that came from outer space make a
mistake, it can end in tragedy very quickly. In Michael Crichtons novel The
Andromeda Strain, Crichton illustrates characterization by showing us how each
scientist makes a mistake that, when added up, might have concluded with the death
of everyone on the team. Crichton shows that when under extreme stress, man will
make mistakes based on lack of self control, general ignorance, and personal ideals.

The main reason being that they wanted to know if different pathogens could even
survive and adapt, and if they could, what changes would occur. The biosatellite
series of experiments proved that bacteria could survive in Earth s orbit, and in fact,
the experiments proved that bacteria could actually thrive in that environment. But
the wildfire team staunchly ignored both the evidence of their own experience that
bacteria mutate rapidly and radically and the evidence of the Biosatellite tests, in
which a series of Earth forms were sent into space and later recovered...Biosatellite II
contained several species of bacteria, it was later reported that the bacteria had
reproduced at a rate of twenty to thirty times the normal rate...yet no one in Wildfire
paid attention to this fact until it was too late. (Crichton 164). This fact alone proved
that the scientist s at Project Wildfire did not use all of the information provided to
them. hey only seemed to use data they collected themselves, which in this case,
almost cost them their lives. Because they ignored this crucial fact which validated
and answered most of their lasting questions. The scientists put themselves, and the
population around the facility, if not the entire country at great risk. If they had taken
into account previous data, they most likely would have been able to find a cure for
the strain much faster, instead of waiting for the strain to mutate into something
harmless as it did in the ending
East Of Eden Transformation
In John Steinbeck s East of Eden, the reader is introduced to a wealth of
unforgettable characters through an extensive period of time and across the United
States. The novel begins in Connecticut and mostly takes place in the Salinas Valley
of California. It spans from the American Civil War to post WWI. Over the several
generations, the characters change and adapt to their situations extensively to create
some of the most lively characters in literature. The Trasks and the Hamiltons are
introduced as the main families of the story and never cease to amaze. The characters
are not contained to these families though as several integral side figures take the
spotlight and work to move the plot. The coming of age tale that last three generations

In the Cain and Abel story, where former kills the ladder, Cain is exiled to East of
Eden. From the title of the story, you can already tell the allusion will be heavy.
Not only do Cal and Aron play to the stereotype of the Bible story, their father and
uncle, Adam and Charles, do as well. Adam and Aron play the part of the innocent
Abel, whereas Charles and Cal play the part of the rebellious and wrongful Cain.
All four characters do take large strides away from their associated character from
the Bible, however, all remain true in the end to their respective stereotypes. A key
example of this is how both generations react to their father s picking of favoritism.
The Bible sees God, the father in the case of the book, rejecting Cain s gift and
then the subsequent killing of the brother. In the case of East of Eden Steinbeck
has them reenact this nearly identically. Cyrus Trask chooses the pet Adam found
rather than the knife Charles bought. This leads Charles to beat Adam to near
death before Adam escapes. One generation later, Adam rejects Cal s money
saying that living an honest life like Aron is better. This leads Cal to unravel and
reveal to his brother that his mother is evil. Though it is not the same as killing
him, it sets him on the path to the military which gets him killed. The entire
narrative can be summed up by one quote from Adam. What chance did we have?
We are the children of our father. It means we aren t the first. (page 267). This
could be interpreted as just a call back to how their father was unhonest, however, it
can be better understood as saying Cain and Abel were the first and everyone after
them relived their mistakes and jealousy. All in all, the stereotypes of the novel serve
the purpose of moving the plot along and creating the setting and atmosphere.
Unforgettable characters are created and last in the reader s
The Use Of Satire In Jon Stewart s The Daily Show
Satire is the use of humor and or sarcasm to expose bigger issues. Jon Stewart
addresses topics through his talk show on the Daily Show. He brings up important
arguments that are going on in our country and shows how ridiculous they are by
his use of humor. Through his political influence and controversial work, Jon
Stewart renewed the success of The Daily Show with his unusual use of satire that
connected with the younger generation. Before Stewart made his big break on the
Daily Show, he was a stand up comedian doing all shows that he could. This led
him to the network, Comedy Central, with his own show called The Jon Stewart

offered the show a faultless new outlook on comedy that Kilborn could not bring,

on the Daily Show, Marc Peyser and Sarah Childress from Newsweek wrote, The

tricks, the Daily Show is the fearless social satire (D Angelo 534). Stewart s nature
of humor brought a new type of show that Comedy Central had never seen before. He
has the power to influence millions of people through his hour long segments.

Ocean City Visual Pollution
Additionally, many of the locals have issues with the decision to build the wind farm
off the coast of Ocean City. The Ocean City Mayor stated that the residents of the
city voiced their large concern with visual pollution . The residents proposed that the
wind farms be built further offshore in hopes to avoid this issue. Councilman Dennis
Dare, also prefers the wind farmbe pushed at least eight miles further offshore to aid
in the solution for visual pollution. However, even with the already hefty price tag
of the wind farm, pushing it further out would cost one million dollars per mile. If
the wind farm causes visual pollution, it may result in a decline of tourists and
revenue for the city. In 2016, tourists have spent $16.4 billion dollars at Maryland
tourism related businesses, 98% of which are made up of small local businesses,
all of which will suffer great financial droughts in their business. Businesses such
as restaurants, arcades, stores, and hotels will face severe decreases in their
profits, because of the lack of tourism. Tourism is a major generator of jobs,
directly employing more than 140,288 Marylanders in 2014, with a payroll of $5.4

to visit Ocean City, many jobs will be cut due to the decrease in demand of people
wanting to visit, as well as revenue. Also, tolls surrounding Ocean City may undergo

Pure Evil In Gibran s On Good And Evil
In the world today, there have been many tragic occurrences that can be considered
as pure evil. One example is the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting. On
Wednesday February 14th, 2018 Nikolas Cruz was charged with seventeen counts of
premeditated murder. Cruz, a former student of Stoneman Douglas, shot and killed
seventeen and wounded countless others without any provocation or reason. Even
with hindsight, one cannot come up with any conceivable reason or rationale for his
action. Most of these students have probably never met him in person, let alone
caused him any harm or slight. As a result, William Golding would state that Nikolas
Cruz is an innately evilperson. He killed simply for the sake of killing. Conversely,

In the poem, On Good and Evil, Gibran argues that goodness lives within each
person. Throughout the poem, Gibran presents several different examples, such as
You are good in countless ways, (Gibran 26) and You are good when you strive to
give of yourself. (Gibran 10). In both of these examples, he was taking the readers
to a personal level, to draw his point across that goodness resides within everyone.
He seemed to argue that evil was a byproduct of circumstances; it was always
created by other factors; it was never always there as opposed to good. In one of
the first lines of the poems Gibran says, For what is evil but good tortured by its
own hunger and thirst? Verily when good is hungry it seeks food even in dark
caves, and when it thirsts it drinks even of dead waters. (Gibran 3 4). He
manipulates personification, when good is hungry it seeks food even in dark
caves to represent the idea that evil was formed when good changed by external
forces or by necessity. For these reasons, he also made it clear that we, the readers,
have to work to maintain our inherent goodness. In other words, good will
eventually turn into evil if we don t pay attention to our environment or to allow
injustice to flourish around us. For instance, in the last line of the poem, Gibran
ends the poem with For the truly good ask not the naked, Where is your garment?
nor the houseless, What has befallen your house? (Gibran 37 38 ). By ending his
poem with an analogy, Gibran is trying to leave a strong impression on us by
questioning if we the readers are good people. He bluntly states, for truly good
people ask not, Where is your garment? essentially saying that good people don t ask
questions, but rather act on

Leonardo Da Vinci s Influence On Renaissance Art
A beautiful body perishes, but a work of art dies not , Leonardo da Vinci. The
Renaissance was a time of rediscovery. During the 14th to 17th centuries, many
technologies, sciences, mathematics and philosophy were rediscovered and art
flourished during this time. Artists broke away from the Byzantine Greek Style of
painting. New methods of painting were created such as oil, frescos and tempera
paints. Artists added emotion, naturalism and realism into their works. Other new
techniques were discovered by artists such as balance and proportion and they began
to study other subjects such as anatomy, so that their works would look as real as

His father, Giovanni Santi, was the court painter to the Duke of Mache. Giovanni
introduced Raphael to humanistic philosophy which helped him in some of his
later works. By 1500 he was considered a master and was commissioned to paint the
Coronation of the Virgin for the Oddi Chapel. Some of Raphael s works are the
School of Athens, Madonna del Prato and the Triumph of Galatea. He contributed to
a more realistic, detailed and glorified depiction of the human form. He influenced
the movement towards mannerism and influenced paintings. Raphael captured the
dignity and grandeur of the human spirit that embodied the Renaissance age. He
portrayed realistic fluid motions and real world light, shading patterns into his art

The Impact Of Roman Military Reforms During The Late
Republic
The five secondary sources chosen will express their reasonings for the Roman
military reforms during the Late Republic. Some sources will only state information
of either the Maniple or Cohort organization. All the sources will focus on the impact
of the Roman military on its culture and society. Wealth and social hierarchy was the
fundamental factor in Roman life. Since the birth of the Roman Republic, Rome
established its military on class organization. The Maniple structure of the Roman
Military was determined by the age and wealth of an individual. Male Romans
without the economic surplus to buy arms would not be omitted into the legions of
the Roman Republic. Free male citizens could fight for the honor of defending Rome
and their families.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The new form of Cohort structure increased the number of recruitable soldiers and
extended military service by incorporating the lower classes of Plebeians into the
Roman gears of war. Poor free citizens could volunteer and become trained warriors,
with arms and armor to equip themselves. The notion of a professional military
would be adopted by the Romans, known by modern scholars as the Cohort structure.
Gaius Marius would be the Roman general to push for a reform of the old Maniple
structure. He would become the primary inspiration for new military organization.
The Cohort structure would become the classical legion associated with the Roman
Empire. Throughout the Late Republic and Imperial Eras, Rome would expand to
encompass the Mediterranean and Western Europe.
In the short book On the Wings of Eagles: The Reforms of Gaius Marius and the
Creation of Rome s First Professional Soldiers, by Christopher Anthony Matthew,
general Gaius Marius instated reforms and developments which would become the
stable of Roman military structure. The main problem Matthew is trying to solve is
how much of the Marian reforms have on the military systems of Rome. The
Sigmund Freud And The Psychosexual Stages Of
Development
Sigmund Freud was a very well known psychologist in the early 20th century. He
began his career in partnership with Joseph Breuer. Together they wrote and
published the book Studies in Hysteria in 1895, after studying patients with
hysteria and developing the idea that most mental disorders were caused by hidden
traumatic experiences in the patients past. Freud began to put emphasis on the
sexual experiences of childhood and he lost the support of Breuer. Freud continued
his work alone and he published three more books. Freud s work was not well
recognized because of his emphasis on sex. In 1908, after the first International
Psychoanalytical Congress, Freud s work began to gain popularity and his
psychoanalytic theory became well respected. He went on to publish more than
twenty theoretical volumes and clinical studies. He continued to develop his ideas
until he died of cancer in 1939. One of Freud s theories was the psychosexual
stages of development. It is important to recognize that Freud changed the meaning
of sexuality to any form of pleasure that can be or is gathered from the body. Freud
based his theory on the thought that all human instincts and drives were based on
the desire to gain or increase bodily pleasure. Freud thought that if a person did not
resolve their conflicts during each stage this would be the cause of any mental
illness or phobia that they would have in their adult life. If one did resolve the
conflict at each stage, then libido, sexual drives or

Each stage has age ranges, but also basic strengths and adaptive versus maladaptive
ways of coping with everyday life. I agree that at each stage the life of an
individual experiences different feelings and that each stage comes with a feeling
of hope. For example, in the oral sensory stage, which is birth to one years old,
babies experience trust versus distrust and the feeling of hope. Babies know that if
they cry, they will get attention. They know that if they are in a familiar person s
arms, they will be cared for. If these things do not happen, the baby experiences
distrust, but continue to be hopeful that they will be nurtured. The second stage is
the muscular anal stage, which ranges from age one to tree. During this stage
toddlers are dealing with autonomy versus doubt with a strength of will. The third
stage ranges from age three to fix, the fourth stage ranges from ages six to eleven,
and the fifth stage ranges from age twelve to eighteen. The sixth stage is young
adulthood, which ranges from age 18 to 35. During this stage, young adults are
experiencing intimacy versus isolation with the strength of love, overall. Intimacy
can lead to love, but love many also lead to isolation in many cases. The last two
stages are adulthood that range from age 35 to 55, and the last stage being maturity
to old age that is 55 years and older. The way Erik Erikson researched these

students, residents, and attending physicians from a variety of specialties confirm
Kooner s assessment. Doctors work hard, work long hours, deal regularly with life

field. These attributes of medical practice can provide a great deal of satisfaction to
the aspiring or practicing physician, but can also be a source of professional and

Weightlifting In Greece, Ancient Greeks And Ancient Greece
We have many sports such as baseball, football. and basketball but all of these
sports have one thing in common, they all have another sport within themselves.
Weightlifting is one of the most common used practices in almost every sport. This
practice, weightlifting or in other terms lifting heavy objects. It has been a part of
life since the beginning of time. Even the earliest of human civilizations had
records of some type of weightlifting. The Chinese Zhou Dynasty, Ancient
Egyptians and The Greeks. From these civilizations we have what weightlifting is
today. These civilizations used weightlifting in several different ways. The Chinese
would have recruits do tests of strength to prove that they could prove themselves
useful on the battlefield. One of the main tests was a 400 lb. stone that the recruits

Mesothelioma Claims
Mesothelioma claims after death in the US Individuals harassed with mesothelioma
have a lawful right to claim remuneration from organizations fabricating asbestos
items. Lawyers will help them obtain reparation due them. Be that as it may, all
states have a statute of impediments or restricted eras for documenting these sort of
lawsuits, and these differ from state to state. Relatives of mesothelioma casualties
who have passed away as a consequence of the infection are likewise qualified to
document a claim. Relatives presented to asbestos in an optional way (through
asbestos brought home by relatives working in an asbestos mines or asbestos

Sufficient settlements will empower the patient to pay the restorative expenses and
will accommodate the groups of mesothelioma casualties who have passed away.
Claims in the US have been relentlessly expanding in the late years since 1990. To
date, there are more than 500,000 reported claims against many litigants.
Furthermore, in light of the fact that a claimant ordinarily records his lawsuit against
a few organizations, there is an archived confirmation of more than 300,000 claims
from each of the numerous asbestos fabricating organizations. Nobody knows the
aggregate sum paid by respondents to determine mesothelioma claims following the
main mesothelioma lawsuit; however it is supposed to be at an unequaled high of
$21 billion dollars. Settlement amounts range from several thousands to millions. A
few organizations have even been reported to spend about $1 billion dollars each to
settle only one litigation claim! A large number of firms, including little
organizations have been sued in the most recent 3 decades, and to date, 41

Colonial Period Of Slavery Essay
The time period from 1607 1775, that formed the foundation the original thirteen
colonies, is referred to as the colonial period of slavery (Clark Pujara 9/19). During
the colonial period of slavery, indentured servants and African slaves were
essential factors for making the colonies successful by means of forced labor.
Specifically, African slaves were the main source of labor workers and they
consisted of several types of African slaves such as the including the saltwater
slaves, slaves directly from Africa, seasoned slaves slaves from the Caribbean, and
creole slaves the first generation of North American slaves (Franklin pg. 65). The
Chesapeake was one of four regions that were predominant throughout the colonial
period and it consists of colonies Delaware, Virginia, and Maryland. The
Chesapeake region was first explored and settled in 1580 by the English. This area
soon became popular place for wealthy English men due to the rising tobacco
cultivation and consequently English men wanting to maximize their tobacco profits
in the Chesapeake region switch from a model of indentured servitude to African
slaveryand created a legal system to justify race based slavery (Clark Pujara 9.19)
The main goal of the European colonist of the Chesapeake region was to continue
the growth and expansion of the tobacco industry. In order to complete this task, they
need laborers. In 1619, the first 20 African slaves came directly from African by
means of a Dutch ship and entered
Negative Body Image Issues
All women should have a slim body and a big butt. All men should have washboard
abs and big biceps. These are just expectations that society has built up of how one
should look. Often when we don t reach it, there are consequences of developing
negative body image issues. So what is negative body image exactly? According to
NEDA (Australia s national eating disorder association), body imageissue is the
dissatisfaction someone may have of their body not meeting unrealistic criterias. It
is the negative thoughts and emotion that result from someone s perception of their
physical self. Unfortunately, in today s day and age this is an existing issue
because we live in a world that promotes unrealistic body ideals. It becomes a
challenge to not compare yourself to these ideals when you see images of instagram
models floating around in your everyday life.
According to Australian Daily Mail, a study conducted down under showed that, out
of 10,500 Australian women questioned on how they feel about their appearance, a
staggering 89% of women all hated or wanted to change something about their
appearance. A further study was conducted between 1,500 women and 1,500 men.
Each person were to calculate their bmi and answer questions about their feelings
towards their bmi. The study concluded that women are 10 times more likely to have
body image issues than men.
So just what exactly causes this? According to Doctor Susan Paxton, a psychology
professor: Women are under many pressures
International Trade Dbq
When studying trade and commodities of Empires in any period of time, it is
important to look at the changes that the trade created within the involved nations.
What crops were popular enough to grow commercially in the empire, what the
increase of trade did to the population demographics, and how the global system
influenced the interactions of the countries involved can be found through close
reading primary sources. Through sources like Tradeand Travel in the Far East by
G.F. Davidson and Tearful Conversation over the Mulberry Fields and the Sea by
Nguyen Thuong Hien, scholars can determine the impact these factors had on the
lives of those who experienced empirical trade. In comparing these two documents,

From this, readers are aware that French men held important roles in Vietnam s crop
development system. This again matches Elson s article which states that when
European populations decide the official positions of natives in the trading system, or
hold the power themselves, the native populations are often further exploited and
overworked. For the sake of higher profits in the trade network, working conditions of
the Asian producers were difficult and often deadly, especially compared to their
Western managers. In the views of the author, the French owners in Vietnam treat the
Mandarin workers as their servants; they treat them no better than their dogs. For
their own business development and for the prospect of greater Asian trade relations,
the Western powers would stop at nothing to enhance their profit through Asian trade
Argumentative Essay On Luxury Cars
For people who like power and luxury together, the Bentley Mulsanne was a great
choice to have. Bentley Motors produced it throughout the 80 s. It was named after
the famous Le Mans race track section. The Mulsane Straight was the fastest part of
the famous track in the 1920 s. This car is extremely versatile and therefore, owners
want to use it for a multitude of reasons.
As with other Bentleys, it is important to keep the luxury car in a pristine condition.
For this, you need to replace the worn out parts and ensure that you do not run the
vehicle with a damaged or low performing component. This means support from spare
parts suppliers. Hunt Auto Parts (HAP) can truly help Bentley owners in this regard.

Analysis of Lucy Gayheart by Willa Cather
Analysis of Lucy Gayheart by Willa Cather
Lucy Gayheart is a young, spirited, intelligent music student from Havorford, on the
South Platte River. In the winters, she attends a conservatory in Chicago, under the
tutelage of Professor Auerbach. In Chicago, she lives in a room above a German
bakery, where she takes her breakfasts and suppers. These small quarters do not
distress her; indeed, she craves the solitude of her own will, her own piano, her own
bed. She walks hungrily through Chicago, her appetite for life never disappointed by
the thriving midwestern metropolis. She is beautiful, she is talented, and her young
heart has never been broke. The year is 1901. At some point in everyone s life, you
meet someone whom you think can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For a time, Lucy Gayheart feels the assurance of a bright future reaffirmed daily.
And then a tragedy strikes, an undreamed of turn of events, something which
happens every day, and yet which we never address, because it is unthinkable. So
will Lucy allow tragedy to beat her down into an existence she has long scorned? Or
will she find the mettle to not only endure, but to grow in the face of, her heartbreak?
This book was published in 1935. Its syntax can be long winded, but its imagery is
unforgettable. The author conveys a deep love for her fellow man, and for the
inexpressible promise of a young life. I believe there is Lucy Gayheart in all of us.
The small town character of Lucy was so typical and nostalgic in her quest for first,
real, and unconventional love, much to the dismay of her rogue ish childhood
admirer. The feelings and actions of Lucy toward both situations is so characteristic
of youth and young love. This novel would appeal mostly to women, from the
teens on up, who are looking for something to read on a cold, rainy day while sipping
hot cocoa. It is a wonderful escape to a past time in America and life.
From the beginning Lucy Gayheart held my attention. It had so many ups, and
downs, twists and turns that it was captivating. The book was very descriptive and
wordy, but instead of taking away from the book it added depth and clarity. It s detail
allowed me to become part of the book. I felt as if I knew Lucy forever,

No Pain, No Gain
No Pain, No Gain Moving into another state was harder than what I thought. When
your family tells you it will be just for a few months, it can turn out to be even
more than that. Not being able to talk to my friends and loved ones as often as
before made me feel out of place. Being in a position where becoming stronger the
only option. Having to leave the past and begin to look into the future. I had to
search what was best for me regardless the limits or obstacles. July, 2009 a hot night
in El Paso, Texas. While playing video games on my Xbox 360 the phone rang, my
mom answered and then I asked her: Who is it? My mom said: It s your aunt from
Iowa . I noticed they had talked for a while. Eager to know what the call was about, I

I hugged her and told her that everything was going to be ok. When the time for me
to leave El Paso came, I said goodbye to all of my friends and we even had planned
a farewell party. I traveled for more than fourteen hours to get to Iowa. While in the
car I looked through the window every now and then. I got to see beautiful
landscapes I hadn t seen before. I finally arrived to Iowa at one in the morning. The
weather was totally different, foggy and humid. Since we were in the middle of the
summer, and school didn t start until the end of August, I didn t really know
anyone. I found it hard to make friends since the place and culture was different. No
one really talked to me, I don t really know why; I guess they saw me as a weird guy.
I would be quiet most of the time because I didn t have someone to talk to. Without
my friends and being in my room all the time, I began to get depressed. I knew at
that time, I had to make a change, do something new and get my mind off the past.
After some time I saw an advertisement on T.V. about exercising and weight lifting,
it caught my attention. I didn t know much about weight lifting. Since I felt
depressed, I lost a lot of weight and got really skinny. I wanted to get strong and
feel better about myself. I did a lot of research on the human body and all the
different kinds of muscles that we have, how to exercise them properly and
effectively. I started working out, woke up every morning and head to
Pros And Cons Of Being Tried As An Adult
In 1989, seventeen year old, Kevin Stanford, committed murder, robbery, and
sodomy. Stanford stole gas, cigarettes, and cash from a gas station. Along with the
robbing he raped and shot the gas station attended on duty, Barbel Poore. After
arrest, the juvenile court decided that Stanford will be tried as an adult. This
decision was made because of the Kentucky law that states a person who commits a
capital offence or is charged if a felony over the age of sixteen is to be tried as an
adult. In the Kentucky Supreme Court, Stanford was sentenced to the death penalty
and 45 years in prison. His juvenile recorded played a major role in the court s
decision showing the many attempts the state had in trying to set Stanford straight.

Surprisingly, Chaz has little to no systemic risk factors. Answering yes to only two
medical conditions on his health history, high blood pressure and thyroid disease, he
is taking two medications to combat these diseases. The first medication is Micardis.
This is an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) used to treat hypertension. ARBs work
by preventing the hormone, Angiotensin II, from having an effect on our body. When
Angiotensin II is released into the bloodstream it causes vasoconstriction and water
retention, in turn raising blood pressure; if we prevent the effects of Angiotensin II
the result will be vasodilation and less water retention, leading to a lower blood
pressure. (Angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs) blood pressure medication,... Show

Ammonia inhalants are located in every other unit, taped to the top of the storage
cabinet. The patient should then be brought to a sitting position, vital signs should be

Contradicting Lexi Comp, Little Falace recommends that any patient suffering from
hypertension should receive the cardiac MRD for epinephrine (Little., Miller.,
Falace., 2013). When epinephrine is introduced into the body it causes a fast influx of
vasoconstriction increasing heart rate, and force of ventricular contraction, resulting in
an increased workload for the heart, ultimately raising blood pressure (Davis, 2010).
Chaz did not require local anesthesia, so this did not influence his treatment plan. The
second medication the patient is taking, Synthroid, did not require modification to the
treatment plan either. According to Lexi Comp Online, Synthroid is a hormone used
to treat hypothyroidism, and has no affects regarding local anesthesia, dental
treatment, or bleeding (Synthroid, 2017). Hypothyroidism results when the body
does not produce enough thyroid stimulating hormones (TSH) causing a decrease in

The Reality Of Gun Control
The Reality of this Topic Covering the Mental health and the other problems with
gun control, I have forgotten to talk about a couple of key concepts. Gun control is
a subject that people normally choose sides in, claiming to be are either pro or anti
gun control. Yet, researching more on this topic, I have found that most of our
politicians are completely biased and do not even look at facts completely, only
taking out what they believe is necessary. They are even saying false information to
everyone. Our current president, Donald J Trump, has claimed that he is anti gun
control, but doing more research on him I discovered that he is saying statements
that a pro gun gun control person would say. He is trying to gain votes by being anti

shows how Norman is a more responsible brother when Paul and Norman go to the
bar unknowingly. Norman went with Paul to the bar until he found out that Paul
was up to his head in debt. Norman tells Paul that he needs to stop and to get in the
car and never to come back. Although Paul never went with him, it showed that
Norman was responsible to take his younger brother Paul s problems into his own
hands for a point of time. Normans responsibility is also shown when Norman takes
his girlfriend s Jessie s brother out to fish. Taking Jessie s brother out to fish was

Causes Of The Revolution Of 1848
The revolution of 1848 was a great disappointment to both Karl Marx and Alexis de
Tocqueville. To Marx, the revolution should have been a step along the way to
socialism, with the bourgeoisie capitalists overthrowing the previous landed feudal
society. In turn, the proletariat would rise and bring both the end of class antagonism
and the beginning of the socialist state. To Tocqueville, the revolution was about the
reduction in the power of the aristocracy, as the lower classes were on their way up.
This broadening equality must necessarily give rise to democracy, with all its hopes
and shortfalls. Yet the revolution ended not in socialismor democracy, but with an
emperor. Marx and Tocqueville may have had different ideas on how and why a
society should conduct itself, but both found the revolution of 1848 and its resolution
a disappointment. Marx takes a very materialist view of the revolution. The July
Monarchy of Louis Phillipe was a largely bourgeois government. Louis Phillipe was
tied to the banking bourgeoisie and the laws that came out of his government were
largely to their benefit. He is in competition with the Bourbon interests, who favor the
landed aristocracy. These two groups, those who have the capital and those who have
the land work against each other, and this struggle is the beginning for the revolution.
Marx says each side opposing the other wasn t about Orleans monarchy against
Bourbon monarchy but that it meant nothing else than that each of the two

The basis of Roman society, as proclaimed by the laws, was the family, headed by a
pater familias, who had power over his dependents. However, Roman women were
quite free and had greater control over their wealth and property than preceding
states in the Mediterranean. One key difference from the Han was an extensive
institution of slavery, in which slave laborers were used in large numbers to
produce goods Roman society was a relatively hierarchical society. Each social
group had well defined roles. Birth was an important indicator of social position.
While the elite could enjoy a relatively wealthy life and could expect to become
officials and hold high positions, lower classes could not expect such luxury. In
trials, the Roman elite was better privileged; they received preferential treatment
from imperial courts. They could not be subject to cruel punishments. For the
lower classes, the fastest way to advance socially was the army or trade Han
society was divided into a number of classes, all played a role within this complex

you are sharing.
Literature of the Holocaust (EN113A) is a 100 level, elective English course that
emphasizes extending EN 11 12 critical reading and writing skills, as well as
mastering close reading of diverse fiction and non fiction texts in a specific content
area. The course is also included in the JUHAN and the Jewish Studies minor.
I use as much visual art as I can to capture and enhance my students different learning
styles. Often a text can be understood on additional levels when combined with visual
art and, given the difficult and disturbing content of the course, many of my lessons
combine the visual arts and literature.
2. Describe how you taught this best practice. What pedagogical strategies or tools

Ekphrasis is a literary description of, or commentary on, a visual work of art.
Within the first two weeks of the course when students are asking how could this
happen? , I display Landscape with the Fall of Icarus by Pieter Breugel the Elder (c.
1558). We closely examine the painting and do pair share discussion and then group
discussion. Then there is a short close reading writing exercise that describes the
painting, the painterly elements, and what the painting means.
This is followed by reading W.H. Auden s 1938 poem MusГ©e des Beaux Artes.
Moving between the painting and the poem, we make literary sense of Auden s

Chinese Jack The Ripper Arrest Essay
Chinese Jack the Ripper Caught
Finally, the women in Baiyin, China can breathe a little easier. For more than 28
years, the residents of this city in the Northwestern province of Gansu lived in fear
of the serial killer called the Chinese Jack the Ripper. But, that all ended on August
26, 2016, with the arrest of 52 year old Gao Chengyong by the local police. Gao
was working in his Baiyin grocery store when he was taken into custody. As
reported by London s BBC News on August 29, 2016, http://www.bbc.com/news
/world asia china 37211650, Gao admitted to the ghastly killings of 11 young females
that spanned a period of 14 years, from 1988 to 2002. He did not explain why he

The victim was a 23 year old Baiyin female who was found in her home with 26
wounds in her body. The youngest victim was an 8 year old girl. A police profile
on the crimes indicated that the killer was a male, aged 33 to 40, who was attracted
to young females dressed in red. The killer would follow the women home, rape
them, slash their throats, and then mutilate their sexual organs. The sixth victim was
found with her breasts, hands, and ears cut off. It was the resemblance between the
savage destruction of the Baiyin victims bodies and those of the women killed by
London s infamous Jack the Ripper that led the police to nickname their killer the
Chinese Jack the Ripper.
Baiyin police were at a loss as to who raped, killed, and mutilated the local women.
They collected enough fingerprints and semen from the crime scenes to tie the 11
murders together, but they could not match the DNA evidence to anyone
registered as living in Baiyin. And that is exactly how Gao managed to stay free
for 28 years. Gao was registered in Qingcheng and never registered himself in
Baiyin. In 2004, the authorities offered a 200,000 yuan reward ($30,000) for
information leading to the arrest of the killer. Despite the generous offer, no leads
ever materialized, and the case went

  • 1. Descriptive Essays Samples Crafting an essay on the topic of "Descriptive Essays Samples" can pose a unique set of challenges. While the subject itself suggests a focus on descriptive writing, the difficulty arises from the need to not only understand the principles of descriptive writing but also to find compelling and diverse examples to illustrate those principles effectively. • 2. 22 Short Rimfire Cartridge The .22 caliber small diameter projectile was one of the first small diameter projectiles introduced and has been developed and adapted for over a century becoming the most popular small bore caliber in history. While most shooters automatically jump to .22 LR when they hear .22 caliber, however there are hundreds of variations of the .22 caliber loadings and cartridges. The .22 Short rimfire cartridge is one of the longest running .22 caliber cartridges still in production, it was introduced in 1857 for use in a Smith Wesson revolver1. This development went on to lead to the .22 long, .22 extra long and a whole lineage of .22 caliber rimfire cartridges all the way to the .22 WMR in 1959, another very popular .22 rimfire design that has recently been giving the .22LR a run for its money. The .22 caliber bullet continued on to be developed into centerfire... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While not being identical they are for the most part interchangeable in most modern platforms. The powder charge and pressure are however different due to small differences in the casing thickness.2 This round was officially adopted by the US military in the Vietnam War for use in the M16 rifle. Its military adoption led to its surge in popularity, though its reception was a hard one due to misconceptions about it ability to kill. The .22 is still being used and developed to this day. From new innovations like the 5.7x28mm or the .22 TCM the .22 diameter bullet is being used in more platforms and being adapted all the time. The most popular selling rifle in my store is obviously the AR 15 chambered in .223 /5.56, and oddly enough one of my most sought after guns is also a .22 caliber the FNH FiveSeven Pistol. Personally I have been interested in squiring the .22 TCM conversion slides for Glocks and selling them paired with assembled Glock frames. To this day .22 has maintained popularity in the united states from rimfire to centerfire and the popularity may wane but for the most part always

KING OF POP Introduction Michael Jackson s global iconic status has won him a lot of respect in the entertainment industry. His legendary work in the modern urban social identity has been strikingly phenomenal. But as a human being, there are many flaws that characterize his personality. In this essay, I analyze Michael Jackson s contribution to the entertainment industry, his global identity, his message for authority on environment, his social life, his moral life, and the many legal battles he had to fight. This is followed by a summary of my main arguments before drawing conclusion to my essay. Background Michael was born on August 29th 1958 in Gary, Indiana and is the seventh child of Joseph and Katherine Esther Jackson. The African American entertainer, singer, and songwriter did not have any formal education. However, he was naturally talented and very successful with his work, in spite of his little academic background. He made his musical debut as early as age five when his group Jackson 5, performed in Motown, Los Angeles. Contribution to the Entertainment Industry Michael Jackson, the self acclaimed King of Pop, justified his career title with numerous hit albums ranging from Thriller, ABC, The Love You Save, I ll Be There, Ben, Off the Wall, Beat It, Billie Jean, and many more. His musical prowess reached the crescendo in the early 1980s with

  • 5. Philosophical Beliefs of Edmund Husserl and Heidegger and... and why is it important? Phenomenology is a philosophical movement which emerged at the end of the nineteenth century in the school of Franz Brentano. It was developed by Edmund Husserl and subsequently modified by his successors Heidegger and Merleau Ponty and Sarte among many others. It is hard to summarise their shared philosophical beliefs as one as each had differing views on what phenomenology should entail. For the purpose of this essay I will examine phenomenology in general, what it accomplished and why it is important. The birth of phenomenology is said to have begun with Husserl s book Logical Investigations which was written at the beginning of the twentieth century. Phenomenology is made up of two Greek words: phainesthai which Heidegger takes to mean to make appear and phos which is translated as bring into the light . Phenomenology grasps the essence of phenomena in the manner that it candidly shows itself, without applying external theories to phenomena. Husserl writes that throughout phenomenology one must have the courage to accept what is really to be seen in the phenomenon precisely as it presents itself rather than interpreting it away, and to honestly describe it. All theories must be directed accordingly. It is the first person s conscious experience. Primary philosophical issues are looked at through the ways in which things come to light through the first person s conscious experience. Husserl describes phenomenological description as
  • 6. Why Did The Spanish Lose The Aztec War The Aztecs and the Spanish had a conflict many years ago. While many viewpoints exist, The defeat of the Aztecs at the hands of the Spanish conquistadors was unavoidable because of many reasons. Three of the many reasons why the Aztecs lost are: The Spanish were, greedy, and were conquerors before, Spanish had advanced technology and weapons, and the Aztecs were strongly devoted to their religion. Overall, it is clear that the conflict and defeat of the Aztecs was unavoidable. One reason why the Aztecs lost was because the Spanish knew how to conquer lands because they had done it before. They had strategies that far exceeded those of the Aztecs. On the other side, the Aztecs had never left their homeland and did not know about the other cultures. Even though they had conquered some people, they weren t good at strategically planning their attacks they went all out aggressive and believed that the gods would help them in the battle. The Spanish prepared before hand so they could have a better chance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While the Aztecs did have some great weapons, the Spanish had a lot better weapons than the Aztecs. One of the Spanish weapons, the Crossbow was a long ranged weapon that was better than the Aztec spear thrower. It was more accurate, had more range, and didn t rely on human strength as much. As far as technology goes, the Aztecs did not have much. They relied a lot on simple and old technology. Their weapons were made easily and did not require as much resources. Weapons like the spear was easily made, but if it was easily made it was also easily broken. Their weapons were fragile but because of their strength they were able to defeat their foes. In the battle against the Spanish, the Aztec failed because of how better the Spanish weapons were, strength alone was not able to withstand the Spanish

  • 9. Gender Roles Of Odysseus And Penelope In Homer s Odyssey Traditional gender roles unfortunately remain an influential part of society today. In some parts of the world, it is illegal for women to do anything without the permission or sometimes even accompaniment of a male guardian. While it is true that the world has made considerable progress in eliminating gender stereotypes overall, there is much work that has yet to be done, and people must continue to strive for equality in order to eliminate unhealthy relationships like that of Odysseusand Penelopein Homer s Odyssey. The epic poem explores Odysseus unnecessarily long journey home after helping Greece win the Trojan War while his wife Penelope waits for him in Ithaca. The contrast between Penelope s faithfulness at home and how Odysseus often strays from his path of return, in many cases by being unfaithful to his wife, highlights the traditional expectations set for men and women during this time and how differently they are supposed to behave. Odysseus yearning for adventure spurs him to explore the many places he encounters without having a need to, causing his route home to be particularly indirect. After landing on the island of the Cyclops, Odysseus deems it a good idea for him to explore the island, even though he knows that the people he meet may not be friendly. He takes a group of men to find out what the mainland natives are / for they may be wild savages and lawless, / or hospitable and god fearing men (Book IX, 187 189). Odysseus is putting himself and

  • 11. The Difference Between Sex and Gender In today s society sex and gender seem to have two separate connotative meanings. Sex is a more scientific term that explains physical traits and sexual preferences. Gender carries a more social tone. Meaning that it refers to the different clothing, activities, career choices, and positions people hold in society. A person s social status helps separate or classify the two sexes. br br Sex is the total sum of physical characteristics that distinguish males and females from each other. The most distinctive difference in characteristics is that man and women have different reproductive organs. This is pretty obvious and so are other traits like facial hair, deep voices, and muscular builds. It is not often that you see a six foot five... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With the rapid changes in gender equality it is not as easy to separate sex by what a person does for a living. What position they hold in society or a household is not a good indication either. Years ago I could have said that if a person is a police officer, a soldier, a fireman, a politician, a lawyer, a doctor or any type of highly paid professional than that person must be a man. Back then this would have been a pretty good hypothesis. The father was the man of the house. The minister was always male and there was no such thing as women in sports. br br I could have probably also said that if a person was a secretary, a grade school teacher, a receptionist, a nurse, a maid, or a homemaker then that person must be a woman. People in the female group or gender worked lower paying less demanding jobs because It was believed that a woman could not handle the pressures that a man s job required. br br With the absence of the father figure in many American homes women have taken over as head of the house. They juggle home life and work to keep their families together so that they can properly raise their children. br br Women have broken the gender barrier in almost every sport except for football and hockey. Some women s sports are pretty interesting to watch. I like to look at women s track, basketball, and boxing every now

Project Organization And Management Structure Project organization and Management Structure: As the experimental methods are complementary to each other, but are not critically interdependent, the cooperative design of my research plans will greatly facilitate my ability to accomplish the specific aims. To monitor the progress and project quality, I will conduct meetings with Prof. Battaglia on a bi weekly basis, write monthly reports that can be incorporated into peer reviewed publications, and present my research outcomes at lab group meetings on a quarterly term. This way I can keep on a self consistent project monitoring process and receive essential feedback from Prof. Battaglia and my prospective colleagues in the laboratory on a regular basis. My primary experimental components (objectives 2, 3, and 4) can move forward synergistically via this approach of using feedback and reinforcing the steady quality management process. I will personally manage the scientific and technical aspects of the proposal, including acquiring data, analyzing results, and writing manuscripts for publication. In the story The Boarding House , Joyce presents us with an image of Ireland where religion is the governing force in determining equitable situations. This is clearly apparent when Mrs. Mooney experiences trouble with her marriage and seeks a separation. This situation is described as, She went to the priest and got a separation from him with care of the children (72). For most societies a situation like this would fall under the category of civil law, and be decided in a court of law. The fact that Mrs. Mooney went to the priest to solve a domestic dispute, and not to an attorney shows that the citizens of Ireland regarded the church as the head figure of Ireland. Anytime that the ruling authority of a country is anything other than its own constitution, the only outcome is a constricted and less prosperous society. This is evident in emerging countries where two or more political parties fighting for control of the people. When a religion is the head of state for a country, the actions of its people are subjected to moral and ethical beliefs. This is unfair in concept, due to the fact not all citizens of a

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the Cain and Abel story, where former kills the ladder, Cain is exiled to East of Eden. From the title of the story, you can already tell the allusion will be heavy. Not only do Cal and Aron play to the stereotype of the Bible story, their father and uncle, Adam and Charles, do as well. Adam and Aron play the part of the innocent Abel, whereas Charles and Cal play the part of the rebellious and wrongful Cain. All four characters do take large strides away from their associated character from the Bible, however, all remain true in the end to their respective stereotypes. A key example of this is how both generations react to their father s picking of favoritism. The Bible sees God, the father in the case of the book, rejecting Cain s gift and then the subsequent killing of the brother. In the case of East of Eden Steinbeck has them reenact this nearly identically. Cyrus Trask chooses the pet Adam found rather than the knife Charles bought. This leads Charles to beat Adam to near death before Adam escapes. One generation later, Adam rejects Cal s money saying that living an honest life like Aron is better. This leads Cal to unravel and reveal to his brother that his mother is evil. Though it is not the same as killing him, it sets him on the path to the military which gets him killed. The entire narrative can be summed up by one quote from Adam. What chance did we have? We are the children of our father. It means we aren t the first. (page 267). This could be interpreted as just a call back to how their father was unhonest, however, it can be better understood as saying Cain and Abel were the first and everyone after them relived their mistakes and jealousy. All in all, the stereotypes of the novel serve the purpose of moving the plot along and creating the setting and atmosphere. Unforgettable characters are created and last in the reader s

Throughout the poem, Gibran presents several different examples, such as You are good in countless ways, (Gibran 26) and You are good when you strive to give of yourself. (Gibran 10). In both of these examples, he was taking the readers to a personal level, to draw his point across that goodness resides within everyone. He seemed to argue that evil was a byproduct of circumstances; it was always created by other factors; it was never always there as opposed to good. In one of the first lines of the poems Gibran says, For what is evil but good tortured by its own hunger and thirst? Verily when good is hungry it seeks food even in dark caves, and when it thirsts it drinks even of dead waters. (Gibran 3 4). He manipulates personification, when good is hungry it seeks food even in dark caves to represent the idea that evil was formed when good changed by external forces or by necessity. For these reasons, he also made it clear that we, the readers, have to work to maintain our inherent goodness. In other words, good will eventually turn into evil if we don t pay attention to our environment or to allow injustice to flourish around us. For instance, in the last line of the poem, Gibran ends the poem with For the truly good ask not the naked, Where is your garment? nor the houseless, What has befallen your house? (Gibran 37 38 ). By ending his poem with an analogy, Gibran is trying to leave a strong impression on us by questioning if we the readers are good people. Other new techniques were discovered by artists such as balance and proportion and they began to study other subjects such as anatomy, so that their works would look as real as possible. Giovanni introduced Raphael to humanistic philosophy which helped him in some of his later works. By 1500 he was considered a master and was commissioned to paint the Coronation of the Virgin for the Oddi Chapel. Some of Raphael s works are the School of Athens, Madonna del Prato and the Triumph of Galatea. He contributed to a more realistic, detailed and glorified depiction of the human form. He influenced the movement towards mannerism and influenced paintings. Raphael captured the dignity and grandeur of the human spirit that embodied the Renaissance age. He portrayed realistic fluid motions and real world light, shading patterns into his art adding the spirit of humanism. One painting that greatly captures humanism is the School of Athens. Giorgio Vasari wrote In Raphael, on the other hand, the rarest gifts were combined with such grace, diligence, beauty, modesty and good character that they would have sufficed to cover the ugliest vice and the worst blemishes. We may indeed say that those who possess such gifts as Raphael are not mere men but rather mortal gods, and that those who by their works leave an honored name among us on the role of fame may hope to receive a fitting reward in heaven for their labors and their merits. This quote explains Raphael as a talented and one of the great artists of the Renaissance age also saying that he should be mentioned in

Some sources will only state information of either the Maniple or Cohort organization. All the sources will focus on the impact of the Roman military on its culture and society. Wealth and social hierarchy was the fundamental factor in Roman life. Since the birth of the Roman Republic, Rome established its military on class organization. The Maniple structure of the Roman Military was determined by the age and wealth of an individual. Male Romans without the economic surplus to buy arms would not be omitted into the legions of the Roman Republic. Free male citizens could fight for the honor of defending Rome and their families.... The new form of Cohort structure increased the number of recruitable soldiers and extended military service by incorporating the lower classes of Plebeians into the Roman gears of war. Poor free citizens could volunteer and become trained warriors, with arms and armor to equip themselves. The notion of a professional military would be adopted by the Romans, known by modern scholars as the Cohort structure. Gaius Marius would be the Roman general to push for a reform of the old Maniple structure. He would become the primary inspiration for new military organization. The Cohort structure would become the classical legion associated with the Roman Empire. Throughout the Late Republic and Imperial Eras, Rome would expand to encompass the Mediterranean and Western Europe. In the short book On the Wings of Eagles: The Reforms of Gaius Marius and the Creation of Rome s First Professional Soldiers, by Christopher Anthony Matthew, general Gaius Marius instated reforms and developments which would become the stable of Roman military structure. The main problem Matthew is trying to solve is how much of the Marian reforms have on the military systems of Rome. The
  • 36. Sigmund Freud And The Psychosexual Stages Of Development Sigmund Freud was a very well known psychologist in the early 20th century. He began his career in partnership with Joseph Breuer. Together they wrote and published the book Studies in Hysteria in 1895, after studying patients with hysteria and developing the idea that most mental disorders were caused by hidden traumatic experiences in the patients past. Freud began to put emphasis on the sexual experiences of childhood and he lost the support of Breuer. Freud continued his work alone and he published three more books. Freud s work was not well recognized because of his emphasis on sex. In 1908, after the first International Psychoanalytical Congress, Freud s work began to gain popularity and his psychoanalytic theory became well respected. He went on to publish more than twenty theoretical volumes and clinical studies. He continued to develop his ideas until he died of cancer in 1939. One of Freud s theories was the psychosexual stages of development. It is important to recognize that Freud changed the meaning of sexuality to any form of pleasure that can be or is gathered from the body. Freud based his theory on the thought that all human instincts and drives were based on the desire to gain or increase bodily pleasure. Freud thought that if a person did not resolve their conflicts during each stage this would be the cause of any mental illness or phobia that they would have in their adult life. If one did resolve the conflict at each stage, then libido, sexual drives or

  • 53. Causes Of The Revolution Of 1848 The revolution of 1848 was a great disappointment to both Karl Marx and Alexis de Tocqueville. To Marx, the revolution should have been a step along the way to socialism, with the bourgeoisie capitalists overthrowing the previous landed feudal society. In turn, the proletariat would rise and bring both the end of class antagonism and the beginning of the socialist state. To Tocqueville, the revolution was about the reduction in the power of the aristocracy, as the lower classes were on their way up. This broadening equality must necessarily give rise to democracy, with all its hopes and shortfalls. Yet the revolution ended not in socialismor democracy, but with an emperor. Marx and Tocqueville may have had different ideas on how and why a society should conduct itself, but both found the revolution of 1848 and its resolution a disappointment. Marx takes a very materialist view of the revolution. The July Monarchy of Louis Phillipe was a largely bourgeois government. Louis Phillipe was tied to the banking bourgeoisie and the laws that came out of his government were largely to their benefit. He is in competition with the Bourbon interests, who favor the landed aristocracy. These two groups, those who have the capital and those who have the land work against each other, and this struggle is the beginning for the revolution. Describe how you taught this best practice. What pedagogical strategies or tools did you use? Ekphrasis is a literary description of, or commentary on, a visual work of art. Within the first two weeks of the course when students are asking how could this happen? , I display Landscape with the Fall of Icarus by Pieter Breugel the Elder (c. 1558). We closely examine the painting and do pair share discussion and then group discussion. Then there is a short close reading writing exercise that describes the painting, the painterly elements, and what the painting means. This is followed by reading W.H. Auden s 1938 poem MusГ©e des Beaux Artes. Moving between the painting and the poem, we make literary sense of Auden s ekphrastic commentary

For more than 28 years, the residents of this city in the Northwestern province of Gansu lived in fear of the serial killer called the Chinese Jack the Ripper. The victim was a 23 year old Baiyin female who was found in her home with 26 wounds in her body. The youngest victim was an 8 year old girl. Baiyin police were at a loss as to who raped, killed, and mutilated the local women. They collected enough fingerprints and semen from the crime scenes to tie the 11 murders together, but they could not match the DNA evidence to anyone registered as living in Baiyin. And that is exactly how Gao managed to stay free for 28 years. Gao was registered in Qingcheng and never registered himself in Baiyin. In 2004, the authorities offered a 200,000 yuan reward ($30,000) for information leading to the arrest of the killer. Despite the generous offer, no leads ever materialized, and the case went
