Michael Jackson s Influence On Pop Culture
Albert Einstein, Robin Williams, Shakespeare, every one of the people have greatly influenced the
world today. Among the list of extremely influential people lies, Michael Jackson. Michael Jackson
was born in 1958 in Gary, Indiana. Jackson was a man of many talents, an entertainer, a philosopher, a
recording artist, and the list goes on. With his extravagant personal life, his contribution to music and
fashion, and his widely known dance moves/skills, he turned out to be the most influential person in
popular culture for over forty years. Throughout his life, Michael Jackson heavily influenced today s
top artists, the technological realm of music videos and the TV industry, and heavily impacted
charities.
Michael Jackson first truly emerged ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first and most evident Jackson follower was Usher. For many years, Usher has been depicted as
the next Michael Jackson (Montgomery). Similarly to Michael Jackson s Thriller, Usher s album,
Confessions, contains an abundance of styles. Starting with an intense classic, and ending with a deep,
raw ballad. Like Jackson, Usher used his musical talent to move beyond simple pop balladry and
develop a pure, singular artistic vision (Keyes). Usher himself states, I wouldn t be who I am today
without Michael Jackson. Although Jackson s influence on pop music artists was far more evident, one
can still see his influence in hip hop artists such as, Kanye West. Kanye portrays the superstar
ambition, which is the desire to accomplish everything bigger and better than anyone and everyone
and the power to bring one unified vision to a mass of people, that Jackson portrayed as well.
Additionally, Justin Timberlake was greatly influenced by Michael Jackson. Just like Michael,
Timberlake outgrew the band he started with and launched his solo career. Timberlake kick started his
career with a music video that was undeniably similar to Michael Jackson s video with the
choreography to the costuming. Another famous pop singer that uses Michael Jackson s methods is,
Katy Perry. Jackson and Katy Perry have been some of the only musicians to be able to oscillate
between universal anthems and personal ballads (Beaumont Thomas). Finally, considerably most
influenced by Michael Jackson is, Chris Brown. From his seemingly impossible dance skills to his
Michael Jackson inspired fedoras, Chris Brown dedicates almost his entire style for singing, dancing,
and fashion to his idol, Michael Jackson. Brown himself states, Michael Jackson is the reason why I
do music and why I am an entertainer. Although Michael Jackson died over seven years ago, he still
lives on through

I Chose University Meadows Elementary School
I chose University Meadows Elementary School K 12 education center not because it was the closes
school in my neighborhood but because of the title that the Elementary school had. I actually had three
other schools that were in my neighborhood or close to it. I at first assumed that the Elementary school
was a private school because of the word University at the beginning of the schools title. Also because
of the title of the school I thought that the school I would be visiting would be large, well funded, and
have a verity of different students that attended the school. The school turned out to be quite small
from other Elementary schools that I had visited in my neighborhood. It was also quite small
compared to my own Elementary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So I had to settle with just being able to take pictures of the school and the diversities that the students
see every day. One sociological theme is illustrated throughout these photos. It is the diversities that
can be seen in a public school, in Mecklenburg County. The sociological literature on the diversities in
schooling includes several chapters we ve read, including Chapter 1 and chapter 7 readings. These
chapters demonstrate diversities that can be seen in schools, such as gender, race, and sexism.
Together these readings support the patterns that the photos reveal. This picture was taken in the main
office where all visitors, students, and faculty can see. They were self portraits drawn by students at
the school, representing the diversity of students at the school. Sadly it did not completely represent
the diversity I saw in the students at the school, while I was visiting. One of the most interesting things
I saw and related back to class was the traditional American Mercator maps that are seen in
classrooms everywhere in America. They do not represent the diversities seen in the other Mercator
maps seen in class or Peters Projection Maps. The picture on the left can be seen in the front of the
main building. The picture on the right can be seen on one of the playground areas outside of the class
room. We grow up with the idea, from an early age, that these are the only maps and views of the
world when it comes to North America. This picture

The Creation Of The Presidency
The Creation of the Presidency by Charles C. Thach is a historical analysis of the development of
American Constitutional principles. The author begins by stating that the basis for American
government is one that balances individual freedom and governmental strength. The moral
foundations of American government are founded on the ideas of natural rights, government by
contract, consent of the governed, and the right to revolt. However, the Revolutionary War at the time
illuminated the need for a strong government that was able to act in times of crisis. This created the
idea that government was a necessary evil for the founders. Thach examines the failures and success
of State constitutions, and the national legislature to show how limited government was transformed
from political theory to positive law in the United States. In politics there is a lingering question of
what determines good government, Thach s analysis on the American system prove that good
government must contain energy and limitations.
The United States of America was founded on a distrust of monarchical governments. In response to
this, the Articles of Confederation vested a majority of power into the hands of the legislature. On
principle, a democratic government seems to be one that would most accurately embody the principles
of limited government. However, good government is one that not only protects individual rights but
as Thach shows is efficient. In his examination of the national government,

Prohibition and Repeal 18th 21st Amendments
English III Honors Period 4 Prohibition Prohibition was the eighteenth amendment. It prohibited the
production and consumption of alcoholic beverages. People would have never thought of excoriating
alcohol until the 19th century (Tyrrell 16). During this time widespread crime and dismay arose. Some
beneficial things did come out of this period of chaos such as women were able to prove themselves as
people their temperance movements. During this time many things happened that led to Prohibition s
strongest point and to its fall. Prohibition proved to be a failure from the start,. Prohibition was
scarcely adhered to and also widely defied but out of this women had a chance to voice their opinions
and prove themselves. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This marked the end to a lengthy thirteen year period of the great experiment, which was prohibition.
When the Great Depression began people complained the prohibition took away jobs and money for
the government. At this period in time, people had little money or hope and alcohol was a way out. In
conclusion in an effort to limit crime, alcoholism, prostitution, and poverty the United States
government failed, but women had a chance to show their competency and their ability to voice their
opinions. Prohibition did indeed lead to the birth and growth of organized crime. The great experiment
that was prohibition did not accomplish its goals of solving the social problems of America or
eliminating alcohol consumption. But, it will always be remembered for causing Americans to reflect
on the effects of alcohol on society. Works Cited Coffey, Thomas M. Prohibition in America 1920

Historical And Cultural Context In The Great Gatsby By F....
Contexts often help readers to understand and perceive the text the way it was intended by the author
to be perceived. When studying any piece of literature, it is important that there is a basic
understanding of historical and cultural contexts since it plays a crucial part in enhancing the reader s
interpretation or reading of the text. A reader s knowledge and understanding of historical and cultural
contexts can influence and enhance their interpretation of F. Scott Fitzgerald s famous classic novel,
The Great Gatsby. A basic understanding of American historical and cultural contexts such as the
Prohibition era, the Jazz Age, Cornelius Vanderbilt and the American Dream, allows a reader to
interpret The Great Gatsby as a text that captures ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Understanding the Prohibition era, the prosperity it brought, and it s effects on the American society
during the 1920s enhances my interpretation of The Great Gatsby. Having knowledge about the
Prohibition era allows me to experience the novel through a lens that shows how Fitzgerald portrayed
the 1920s as a time of decayed values. The Prohibition era, dated between mid 1920 to early 1933,
was period in American history when the manufacture, transportation and sale of intoxicating liquors
were banned and forbidden because of the increase in violence and illegal activities. During the
Prohibition, there was a sudden rise in capitalism through illegal sale and production of liquor, which
is known as bootlegging . The character of Jay Gatsby is an example of how Fitzgerald depicted the
decayed values of the 1920s. In the novel, Tom Buchanan accused Gatsby of having little stunts in his
drug stores , he was adamant that Gatsby sold grain alcohol over the counter arguing that its probably
where all of his wealth came from and picked him for a bootlegger (page 109).

Consumer Behaviour Towards Fmcg
Consumer behavior towards the new packaging of FMCG products. The importance of packaging
design as a vehicle for communication and branding is growing in competitive markets for packaged
FMCG products. This research utilized a focus group methodology to understand consumer behavior
toward such products. The challenge for researchers is to integrate packaging into an effective
purchasing decision model, by understanding Consumer s behavior towards the packaging of FMCG
products. When consumers search for and process information in store, the product s package can
contain relevant and useful information for the consumer. Product packaging forms the end of the

How Does Religion And Science Relate Together
Research Note:
Inquiry focus: How does religion and science relate together
The relationship between religion and science has been a subject of study since classical antiquity,
addressed by philosophers, theologians, scientists, and others. Different concept come from different
geographical regions, cultures and history. most scientific and technical innovations prior to the
scientific revolution were achieved by societies organized by religious traditions. The scientific
method were beginning by ancient pagan, Islamic, and Christian. In the ancient and medieval world,
the etymological Latin roots of both science and religion were understood as inner qualities of the
individual or virtues.

Religion and Science: Competitors or Companions. Can Religion and Science coexist each other or
not? This is a good topic for philosophy. A lot of scientists also have religious conviction, such as
Galileo, Alister McGrath. Science studies how the heavens go, religion how to get to heaven. Science

Religion must exist an overlapping field. Science without religion is lame, religion without science is
blind.

Essay about A Diagnosis of Cancer is Life Changing Experience
A diagnosis of cancer is life changing and affects the whole family. It has been documented in some
studies that family members experience equal if not higher levels of anxiety or depression than the
cancer patient themselves (Hacialioglu et al, 2010). Hasson et al (2010) found that spouses of patients
who had been diagnosed with advanced breast cancer reported more psychological distress than
patients and were above the clinical cutoff. These results are comparable with a study carried out by
Hodges and Humphris (2009) in which caregivers of patients who had been diagnosed with cancer had
higher psychological distress and fear of recurrence than the patient. These results could potentially be
associated with caregivers emotional strain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Longer term survivors and caregivers were found to be more distress and anxious ( 3 years). Other
studies confirmed this findings and reported partners had significantly higher levels of burden one
year after treatment. This could be associated with caregivers expectation that the patient would
quickly revert back to the role of partner (Schmid Buchi et al, 2011; Moreira et al, 2013). Providing
care for more than twenty hours a week was significantly associated with depression among
caregivers. Greater impact on caregivers schedule also predicted to increase guilt (Jaafar et al, 2014;
Spillers et al, 2008). However, Tang et al (2013) found providing end of life care for a relative, guilt
was derived from lacking time to provide care. Therefore caregivers who spent 17 24 hours a day may
have felt less deprived than those who provided 8 hours as the patient death approached. Carers
distress increases as patients cancer progresses to more advanced and terminal stages, where the
patient experiences more physical symptoms like pain. Given et al (2004) found a linear relationship
existed between higher numbers of patients symptoms (pain, nausea, distress, deterioration) and
caregivers level of depressive symptoms. Caregivers of patients receiving palliative care have high
prevalence of psychological distress during bereavement. Six

A Short Note On Severe Water Pollution On The San...
Kicker: Severe water pollution that exists in far away countries, could happen right here in the San
Francisco bay and its effects would be devastating.
Recall the last time you drove across the Golden Gate Bridge; looking to the sea and seeing the
whitecaps break against the rocks, and then looking at the bay and seeing the shimmering aqua
colored water filled with sailboats. But now, try and imagine a very different picture, you look towards
the bay and see oil slicks, floating tires, and islands of trash as the smell of rotting fish, gasoline and
sewage fill your nose. This may sound strange and fictional, but the truth is it isn t far from possible.
In fact, some of the these pollutants are flowing into the San Francisco bay already. Imagine living
next to a place like this, how would that make you feel? More importantly, what are the physical
health effects as a result of these pollutants? In the following article, we will explore how something
like this is possible (if not probable), and what effects it could have on the health of the Bay Area.
Firstly, we jump to a place far away from San Fransisco, about 7 thousand miles away to be exact
Brazil; a country suffering from a variety of problems, including a devastating drought, and massive
amounts of water pollution. The bay of Rio de Janeiro (Guanabara Bay), was once a recreational gem
that was swam through, canoed, and enjoyed by locals and tourists alike. More importantly, its rich,

Group Thinking And Conformity
CONFORMITY
Conformity is changing one s own behaviour as to more closely match the action of others (Ciccarelli
Meyer, 2006). When one start doing what the majority is doing. Conformity can be affected by group
thinking. Group thinking is kind of thinking in which people feel it is more important to maintain the
group s cohesiveness than to consider the facts more realistically (Ciccarelli Meyer, 2006).
Conformity is one of social influence that is investigated by social psychologist, which tries to explain
people s behaviour in following the trend rather than standing out.
The scholars that took the perception of conformity further were Muzafer Sherif and Solomon Asch.
They made several experiments. Asch experiment included seven to

Ancient Roman And Greek Architecture
Modern Architecture around the globe had been influenced by ancient Roman and Greek architectural.
Although both ancient Romans and Greeks are recognized for their innovations in architecture having
both constructed a variety of buildings and structures that can still be appreciated today, they appear to
have concentrated mostly on the creation of temples which at first sight seem similar but in reality
they each diverged and had their own identity and served for different purposes. Ancient Greek and
Roman temples were both similarly built to carry out religious or spiritual happenings, and for the
adoration of their gods who were believed to protect and sustain their own community. Compared to
the Romans, the purpose of building the Greeks temples originated with the idea of constructing a
sacred precinct as a home for their gods which was represented by a colossal cult image placed in an
inner chamber called naos or cella . According to historians, the Greek not only worshiped their gods,
but they honored them as well by having daily offerings. Greek temples had servants who were in
charge of ensuring the needs and care of their deities. Symbolically, their temples were a
representation of their philosophy and civilization. Roman temples were somehow similar in that their
temples functioned as a sacred precinct to honor the Gods. Likewise, they were represented by statues,
however they had a more decorative purpose and were placed in apses instead. Equally important,

racists and allow the white liberals to debate about racism. Personally, I cannot say that I ever
experienced anything similar to Ifemelu in terms of race, I have, however, had experiences where I felt
out of place and different. When I visited France, I spoke no French and went to stay with a family

Theme Of Love In City Lights
I. The one theme that connects all the films we have watched in this class is an overall theme of love
this love presents itself in many different ways. In City Lights, the love between The tramp and the
blind girl, in Central Station it is the love between two strangers, Dora and Josue, The Namesake has
the love in an arranged marriage, Children of Heaven, the love between a brother and sister, and The
Kite Runner has love between two best friends that transcends the generations. All of these movies
have very different sets of characters, plots, settings, and cultures but the one theme connecting them
all is love. This love presents itself in many different ways, but the love is present all the same.
City Lights by Charlie Chaplin took place right here in the United States and started off the semester
with a traditional view of love as a culture we often view falling in love with someone as the ideal
what everyone wants. We especially want someone to love us for who we are, not the money or things
that we have. In City Lights, the Tramp inadvertently tricks the blind girl into thinking that he has a lot
of money. However despite this deception, he loves her, he wants to do what is best for her, even if it
gets him in trouble or sends her away from him. He tries working hard to get her what she needs a
cure for her blindness. Working hard does not work out for him, and he goes to great lengths to get the
money for her, including the boxing match and asking the millionaire for help. He does this because
he loves her deeply and he wants what is best for her. The movie ends with her being able to see and
still accepting him despite the fact that he is not a millionaire. This film portrays the great American
love story putting the other person first, and loving them despite their circumstances.
Central Station from Brazil by Walter Salles depicts a different kind of love. This movie could have
been about Josue, and the love with his mother or his brothers at the end when he finds them instead it
is about the love between him and Dora, an old, sad woman with no relation to him. Throughout the
film, Dora always tries to do what she thinks is best for Josue. It is misguided at first, when she sells
him to

The Sarbanes Oxley Act Summary And Introduction
Reforms have been created to close the gap of corporate governance and financial reporting in order to
prevent the reoccurrence of corporate scandals. Congress created a federal bill named the Sarbanes
Oxley (SOX) Act in July 2002 in response to the Enron and WorldCom scandals that introduced major
changes to the regulation of corporate governance and financial practice in order to protect the interest
of investors and the public ( Sarbanes Oxley Act Summary and Introduction, 2003). The Act is
extensive in corporate governance, which is a comprehensive theory concerned with the alignment of
management and shareholders interest. The sections of the bill cover responsibilities of a public
corporation s board of directors, adds criminal penalties for certain misconduct, and requires the SEC
to create regulations to define how public corporations are to comply with the law (Slater, 2002). The
SEC has issued more than twenty rules implementing provisions of the Act pertaining to corporate
governance, financial reporting, and audit functions. The SEC has worked with NYSE and NASDAQ
to harmonize the new Corporate Governance Rules. Throughout the rest of this paper, the more
detailed listing requirements of the NYSE and NASDAQ will be discussed. Since the reforms are
extensive, these were selected for the discussion: the increased role of independent directors,

The Icy Metal Gates
Twenty four hours. As I lay in this bed, surrounded by beeping machines against white walls, my mind
is clouded with that foreboding number and its awful implications. Out loud, it sounds longer than it
really is just a single day. And, though I wish it was longer, I m just not blessed with fortune. Never
was, honestly. My youth was littered with misfortune: death, the entailing grief, and the drawing of the
shortest straws. Mother had passed by the time I was nine; and Father followed within a year, thus
leaving me in the care of a this secluded Catholic orphanage. In the confines of the icy metal gates, I
familiarized myself with literature, which soon became my only escape from my imprisonment. While

Thinking of it causes me to wonder if I look equally disgusting. Twenty four hours. I m certain more
than two of the twenty four have already left; I can t tell any longer. For the days in this place are
nonexistent and are instead replaced by an artificial sun centered upon the ceiling, every crack never
touching its border but only tracing around it. Cool air from the AC is still filling the room and
removing the warmth that emits from the squadron of machines that litter this sterile room. But, in this
abhorrent condition, I m not at all comfortable: I can feel my body perspiring, the sweat building up
on the arch of my back, and every so often the room will become distorted as if I was watching the
infinite shades and hues of the world blend together whilst falling towards something similar to
eternity. I remember falling once as I child. Fortunately, Mother caught me in her arms before I could
collide with the coffee table, leaving only my pride injured. Once I was calmed, I saw her pick up
something like a notebook and pens off the ground. An eye s blink later, it just now has dawned on me
that she had dropped everything she had to prevent possibly injury to me literally and metaphorically.
Her name slips me as most things do now and her face is but a shaded blur, but I can recall her
honeyed words without effort. You re Mommy s little writer, aren t you? she would say when I

Desktop Pc Sales And Its Effect On The Consumer Market
Despite the fact that desktop PC sales have dropped by twenty one percent from 2011 to 2015, there is
still no laptop or smart phone that can completely replace the functions of a same class desktop.
Desktops will not become obsolete, instead it will become more specialized for small/medium
business and professional fields such as CAD (Computer Aided Drafting), video editing and gaming in
the future, its solid and stable performance prevents it from retiring from the electronics market.
Desktops have a very long history; this form factor of computing originated in the late 1970s.

Modern consumer devices since 2011 are now trending toward mobility, touchscreen, and user end
optimization. On the other hand is cloud computing, which allows easier mass deployment for large
enterprise. The sales number of desktops are now decreasing and has lead to the debate of whether it
will be replaced by mobile devices. The convenience that modern mobile devices provide are
exceptionally attractive for average consumer/end users. These are the factors which lead to the
decrease of desktop sales. The debate over whether desktops will become obsolete has since began.
Those who believe that desktops will become obsolete often use the decrease of desktop sales to argue
for the downfall of desktops, believing that the desktop sales will eventually drop to zero. This is not a
pointless estimation. The trends of the performance of mobile devices such as laptops and smart
phones in recent years will eventually catch up to the performance of desktops, once it happens,
desktops will become extinct. In recent years the use of cloud computing is rapidly expanding in
enterprise environments; by deploying thin clients[6] instead of conventional desktops organizations
can save massive amounts of money and make management much easier. Some people even believe
that cloud computing will be the future

How Does Race Influence The Politics Of The 1960s
Jacob Garbison Professor Sean Trundle History 355 4 December 2014 Dog Whistle Politics of the
1960s On July 2, after signing the 1964 Civil Rights Act, President Lyndon B. Johnson reportedly said
to his staff, I think we just gave the South to the Republicans for your lifetime and mine. (Perlstein

but it was for the last time. Nonetheless, the party which had dominated the South for almost a century

Here, Wallace did something new. Gone were the overt references to white supremacy, segregation, or
even race. Instead, he positioned himself as a defender of the constitution against tyrannical
government overreach: I stand here today, as Governor of this sovereign State, and refuse to willingly
submit to illegal usurpation of power by the Central Government. [1] Wallace went on, giving voice to
the politics of the South in language that was palpable, even agreeable, to the North. The dramatic
Stand in the Door was all for show of course. Wallace stood aside, allowing three black students to
register for classes later that day, but the effects of the speech would have wide repercussions. Wallace
received nearly 100,000 telegrams in response to his speech from all across the country, an almost
unheard of number for a lowly Southern governor. More shocking still was that nearly all of them,
about 95%, were praising his bravery. (Lopez, 15) They all hate black people, all of them. Wallace
reportedly exclaimed, They re all afraid, all of them Great God! That s it! They re all Southern. The
whole US is Southern! (Lopez, 15) Wallace had discovered the dog whistle, a way to communicate
racial animosity without using explicit racism. This is a distinctly modern expression of racism which,

Business Intelligence Tools
We live in a day and age where Business Intelligence (BI) tools are becoming a standard for
businesses. In the past, decision makers gathered data from thick paper reports, long presentations,
and other inefficient tools. However, with rapid advancements in technology, especially in the field of
Information Systems, decision makers need more sophisticated and efficient tools to make sense of
their businesses. Analytical tools are very useful because they allow decision makers to make
decisions at every level of business. We are getting to the point where these tools are critical for a firm
s advancement and competition. One cannot discuss dashboards without first mentioning the
magnitude of today s data. The data is so complex and enormous that it takes so much effort to clean it
up before doing anything with it. Data must be scrubbed, checked for redundancy, inconsistency,
irrelevance, and finally consolidated. These processes are not a joke; each of them take a significant
amount of effort and time. Many BI tools have automated some of these processes. The next step is
taking the consolidated data and inputting it into a system to create some sort of meaning. This is quite
an obstacle because even if the data can be analyzed and trends identified, it is difficult to convey
trends in a meaningful manner ( Oracle International Corporation ). Research shows that humans
retain more information when it is provided in a graphical format than when the information is

The Government Into A Viable Operating Legislation
If James Madison were here today he would be pleased to see how his thinking has molded the
government into a viable operating legislation. Using the policy procedures depicted in All Roads
Lead to Congress: the $300 billion fight over highway funding by Costas Panagopoulos and Joshua
Schank, this essay will identify key areas within the amendment process of the Safe, Accountable,
Flexible, and Efficient Transportation Equity Act A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA LU), where James
Madison s beliefs are represented. The form of checks and balances within the legislation, along with
the development of factions and what they can accomplish, discussed in Article No. 10 and 51 of The
Federalist Papers mirrors the topics within in All Roads Lead to Congress.
Excerpts from The Federalist Papers No. 10 and 51 show that James Madison was telling his fellow
countrymen what he envisioned as a sustainable form of government; controlling factions within the
majority and minority parties, the need of a republic form of government instead of a pure democracy,
and establishing a form of checks and balances by a separation of power within the legislation.
In his essays, James Madison discusses one of the most dangerous but extremely necessary creatures
of government; factions. It is the government s responsibility to quell factions and maintain a minimal
divide between majority and minority groups. Within the opening chapters of All Roads Lead to
Congress, the authors are able to show how

A Dolls House Essay
It has been said that, some people think that it s holding on that makes one strong; sometimes it s
letting go. In Henrik Ibsen s A Doll s House, Nora s departure becomes the controversial topic of
debate for many readers; was Nora Helmer justified in leaving her husband and kids or not? It is
argued that both parents are needed for a child to succeed in life and that separation is an act of
cowardness. However, several readers also debate that Nora was justified in leaving Torvald and her
kids. The mistreatment Nora constantly faced through offensive nicknames, her child like mentality
that made her unfit to take care of her children and her identity as a doll demonstrate her need to leave
the Helmer household.

head and crossing the stage (1.702 03). Evidence of her childish behaviour and naïve mentality reveals
the underlying need for her to grow and to do so she must find herself. In summary, the family nurse
and Nora s immaturity and naivety justify her decision to leave Torvald and her kids to find herself to

Presidential Elections And Election Elections
Political elections, especially presidential elections have many variables that influence the voters when
they go to the polls. Many researchers use various methods to figure out all the possible outcomes of
the election and what the voters are looking for in a particular year. This year has been unique because
of the different personalities that the candidates own. This new diversity has caused researchers to
revise their tactics from earlier years. Also, negative political ads for this election year have had some
impact on voters. Furthermore, a candidate s religious affiliation will also have an effect on different
segments of the population. Finally, in previous presidential elections, divided parties rarely won
presidential elections. Will this year have the same end result? Finally, the exact effects caused by
these variables can sometimes only be determined by research studies. These studies have to be ready
to hit the core of the issue affecting the outcome. Furthermore, the questions have to be tailored,
balanced and presented the same way in all outlets.
Multitude of Media Outlets
Voting for the next President of the United States is very important in our country. In our society today

The Symbolism of Ophelia s Character The name Ophelia has been most commonly associated with
William Shakespeare s play, Hamlet, where she is referred to as the title character s mad lover. She is
believed to have killed herself out of madness by drowning herself in a river. Interpretations about
Ophelia s character have ranged from being a woman who lost her sanity upon her father, Polonius
death to being the object of hatred by Hamlet. However, despite her supporting character in the play,
her personality has roused numerous criticisms and interpretations from philosophers and critics. This
is probably due to the fact that her role in the play is more of a descriptive character rather than a

The costs of such religions refers to the madness and ultimately the death of Ophelia. It can be
presumed through Chapman s statement that the Catholic religion puts more pressure down on
Ophelia as she tries to overcome her marriage problems and her sexual desires. Ironically though,
instead of feeling ashamed, Ophelia resorts to the old lauds to assure herself of peace and solace.
Therefore, it is also safe to conclude that it is her religion or piety which takes away her fear. This is
evident in the fact that she drowns just after she chanted such old lauds . Erin Campbell provides a
more psychological and sociological approach in the character analysis of Ophelia. She argues that
Ophelia suffers from hysteria, a malady often ascribed to upper class women who bide their time in
their fathers homes while awaiting fulfillment of their culturally mandated roles as wives and mothers
(Campbell). Campbell proves her point by comparing Ophelia s character to that of Quentin Compson
who also drowned herself as a result of unrequited love, patriarchal restrictions and losses. Truthfully,
it is the social environment of Ophelia which caused her madness. Feeling imprisoned and
manipulated by the people around her, she felt that

The Transformation of the Role of Women within Victorian...
The role of women during the Victorian Era has been a prevalent topic over the course of the semester.
Women during that time had limited rights, and the rights they did have were equivalent to that of
children. Domesticity, caring for their husband and children was the focus of their livelihood. As
England continued to grow and industrialize, women became more marginalized, while men continued
to grow into dominant members of society, this is known as the notion of separate spheres. The notion
of separate spheres was not limited to the role women and men had in the home, but extended into the
streets and the workplace. Men were seen as formidable, intellectual, and the governing sex; whereas,
women on the other hand, were disregarded as emotionally unstable, dominated by their sexuality, and
submissive to men s wants and desires. Women were not only given limited rights to the roles they
had in society, but also were not given the right to choose whom they wanted to marry. A majority of
women had no other option but to marry as a way to maintain their livelihood, unless they were
members of high social standings. Additionally, the rights of a woman were again lessened after she
wed. The moment a woman married, she automatically became the property of her husband. The
limited rights she had before were stripped away: her property, identity, and value ceased to exist the
moment she became the helpmate to a man. The ideology of the role women played did not

Comparison Between Karl Marx And Emile Durkheim
Name: Crystal Henrick FL6132
Compare and contrast the various early European urban theorists as found in Chapter 1 of the course
text. (300 400 words)
The two theorists i ve decided to compare and contrast are Karl Marx and Emile Durkheim. Firstly i ll
compare them to one another. From all the readings I did and past education on these individuals I
found they have a lot of the same views in regards to religion. Both Emlie Durkheim and Karl Marx
believe that religion is a projection of mans hopes and desires. They both also agree that religion plays
a powerful role in influencing the members of a society. While coming up with these theories they
were both more concerned with the human rather than the religion. Both of them did not believe in a
god or gods. It s been said that Marx saw god as idealization of human nature while Durkheim
believed the idea of a god was society itself. They were not religious people so it s interesting that
they did have some of the same views and theories regarding religion in the society.
The differences between them are pretty simple. As I was previously comparing their views on
religion I can continue that with talking about their differences in regards to religion, Marx argues that
religion oppresses the people in the society while Durkheim argues that religion unites the society.
Further; Emile Durkheim was a Functionalist, meaning he looked at society in a scientific way. He
believed that members of the same society all wanted the same

The Pros And Cons Of Drunk Driving
Cops rush to the scene of a tragic accident, where two cars are crumpled on the road. One minivan,
carrying a group of teenagers going home, laid upside down in a ditch. The other vehicle, a truck
driven by a drunk man, sat with a flattened front end in the middle of the highway. The drunk driver
came out of the wreck virtually unscathed compared to the teenagers. Two teenagers were horribly
injured, while the third teen was killed. This is an example of what can happen when a driver gets
behind the wheel while intoxicated. Innocent lives could be lost and many people can be injured by
irresponsible drivers. According to the article Drunk Driving, more than ten thousand fatalities are
caused by impaired driving every year. Also, 1.4 million drivers were arrested for driving under the
influence of alcohol and drugs ( Drunk Driving ). Even though many efforts, such as increase in police
patrol and slightly higher fines, drunk driving is still a major problem in the United States. Many
people have proposed solutions to the drinking and driving problem. These solutions include,
educating people to know the risks of drunk driving, and other people think that there should less laws
on drunk driving, or legalize it all together. A great solution that could deter people from drinking and
driving, is to make fines higher than they already are and have longer jail sentences for each DUI a
person commits. This solution would keep people from driving under the influence(DUI) because

are five major scenes that build up to the dramatic ending of The Scarlet Letter. The scenes in order

While standing on the scaffold she sees her husband sho has been gone for years, no one recognizes

most important of the book because of the introduction of characters and the setting of the story. It
also shows the way Heaster feels towards the whole idea and gives small hints for what is to come in
the future of the book. In the second major scene of the book Heaster and now 7 year old Pearl go to
visit a couple of the top men in the village such as the governor, Wilson, Dimmesdale, and
Chillingworth. The first half of the story has covered a space of seven years; the second half of will

to their questions but decided to answer them incorrectly. Wilson was convinced and wanted to take

raises an intriguing question: will robots be so similar to us that they, too, will start wondering where
they came from? As well as showing awareness of the world, will they be aware of themselves? In
other words, will they be self conscious? By the middle of the next century, we may even begin to
wonder whether such advanced robots, with their enormous mental capacities and physical strength,
pose a threat to their human inventors. The cyborg the fusion of man and machine is another plausible
prospect in our lifetime. Doctors have already devised silicon chips

plays a fundamental role in achieving customer loyalty and profitability. Co author Barsky and various

Hotel companies that invested in staffing and restored selected services and amenities led the industry
through the recovery. Comparing performance across hospitalityindustry sectors, casinos consistently
score higher than other hospitality businesses (i.e., hotel, car rental, and airline) while airlines receive
the lowest scores of the four sectors (see Exhibit 2). Although the airline industry s score of 75 is

Essay on Massachusetts Bay Colony
The government of the Massachusetts Bay Colony was simultaneously theocratic, democratic,
oligarchic, and authoritarian in different ways. The Puritans founded the Massachusetts Bay Colony in
1628 and wanted a well established government, but they ended up mixing all of these together. This
colony was important because it was one of the first provincial and true governments to be introduced
into the colonies. It also provided an example to other colonies to base their governments on.
The Massachusetts Bay Colony can be said to have been partly theocratic based on a couple of
reasons. For example, the Puritans believed that they had a covenant with God to build a society that
would be a model for humankind. This shows partly theocracy ... Show more content on

This control from a small group of people may have been what the people thought was the right thing
to do at the time, but it was somewhat why they had come to the New World in the first place was to
get rid of a single person ruling everyone.
Last but not least the government of the Massachusetts Bay Colony was partly authoritarian for many
reasons. The colony favored a strict set of rules and taxes and stuck to them. This shows the
authoritarian government. The Governor set the taxes and laws based on the will of the church and
what was the right thing to do. They even had strict rules about kissing in public, and various other
inappropriate things considered to be wrong by the church. Some states were nicknamed after the
color of the paper that the laws were printed on. The irony of this is that the people wanted to live an
easier life with more freedom from the government and religion, but then proceeded to promote and
carry out repressive laws such as kissing in public.
As you can see the Massachusetts Bay Colony was very diverse in its form of government and how
the colony was run. Some people say it consists of a mix of all of these forms of governments
(theocracy, democracy, oligarchy, and authoritarian) when in fact the government was one of a kind
and very influential to other colonies. It helped other colonies because it helped them decided to take
bits and pieces of

How The 2010 Haiti Earthquake Changed My Life
In January 12, 2010, I encounter a tragedy that had me believe that I wasn t going to see what my life
would be like after I graduate college. this unforgettable tragedy was the 2010 Haiti earthquake with a
magnitude of 7.0.
The day start like every normal day. I remember waking up at about 7:25 and took a shower after that i
put on my school uniform. I remember I had coffee and with a baguette (a long thin French bread
made from basic lean dough). Before I left my house, my Aunt called me and give a $1 for lunch
which was basically nothing but money is money. I left my house at exactly 8:00 o clock and arrived
at the school right before class started. I was in 6th and if you were in my grade, recess was always at
12:30 for us. That day, at recess I bought a patty with the dollar my Aunt gave me and played soccer
with my friends and I remember we made the ball using socks and plastic bags. At 1:15 in the
afternoon, I went back to class with my classmate and I remember the first thing the teacher wanted
was to take out our homework. I recalled it was a math homework cause Monday homework was ...

Back in Haiti if a parent wanted to send his/her children to school, she had to pay a great amount of
money. When I came here, the first thing that my mother and some of my family said was that If you
stay in school, you can be whatever you want to be in this world . School was challenging at first
because I did not speak the English language but when I started picking up the language, I made sure
that I did all my work and learned everything that a subject could offer. I set myself to learn to learn
something new everyday because at the end of the day, the stuff you learn or the tragedies that you
face are what get you ready to face the reality of the whole

Anthropogenic Effects on Coral Reefs Essay
Abstract:
Humans have a very large effect on the ecosystems of coral reefs. Sensitivity of coral reefs causes
them to be more susceptible to harmful anthropogenic practices. Some of these are sedimentation,
global warming, recreational activities, poison fishing, blast fishing practices, water pollution, and
coral mining. All of these very different practices can effectively end up with the same results; the
mortality of coral reefs around the world. Coral reefs are an important ecosystem of the world, and
support many different industries and millions of people. Introduction
Coral Reefs are said to be the tropical rainforest of the sea. They are home to over 25% of all marine
life ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result of this, more sediment is released into rivers that flow out into the ocean and coral reefs.
Mangrove Forests are found between 32 degrees north and 38 degrees south latitude
(www.earthisland.org ). They protect the coastlines from erosion, storm damage, and wave action.
They also serve as sediment traps from inland sources, and help protect coral reefs from over
sedimentation. As land clearing and intensive farming increase these important ecosystems become
scarce (Wolanski and Spagnol 1999). Clearing the land causes an increase in soil erosion, creating
mud that flows out to coral reefs. Nowlis et. al. (1997), found more sediment and coral damage on
reefs closest to large river mouths. Sedimentation ultimately smothers coral reefs by reducing sunlight
needed for photosynthesis (Birkeland ). Normally corals can sustain low levels of sediment supply by
using natural removal processes. Over time they are unable to remove the sediment if there is too
much sediment in the water (Grigg and Dollar 1990). In worst case scenarios sediments can bury
corals completely. This was the case about 35 years ago in Castle Harbor, Bermuda. After dredging
practices took place, corals that were found with in confined water circulation had a catastrophic
mortality rate (Brown 1997).
Water Pollution
There are two significant types of water pollution that harm coral reefs; sewage run off and oil spills.

  • 2. Michael Jackson s Influence On Pop Culture Albert Einstein, Robin Williams, Shakespeare, every one of the people have greatly influenced the world today. Among the list of extremely influential people lies, Michael Jackson. Michael Jackson was born in 1958 in Gary, Indiana. Jackson was a man of many talents, an entertainer, a philosopher, a recording artist, and the list goes on. With his extravagant personal life, his contribution to music and fashion, and his widely known dance moves/skills, he turned out to be the most influential person in popular culture for over forty years. Throughout his life, Michael Jackson heavily influenced today s top artists, the technological realm of music videos and the TV industry, and heavily impacted charities. Michael Jackson first truly emerged ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first and most evident Jackson follower was Usher. For many years, Usher has been depicted as the next Michael Jackson (Montgomery). Similarly to Michael Jackson s Thriller, Usher s album, Confessions, contains an abundance of styles. Starting with an intense classic, and ending with a deep, raw ballad. Like Jackson, Usher used his musical talent to move beyond simple pop balladry and develop a pure, singular artistic vision (Keyes). Usher himself states, I wouldn t be who I am today without Michael Jackson. Although Jackson s influence on pop music artists was far more evident, one can still see his influence in hip hop artists such as, Kanye West. Kanye portrays the superstar ambition, which is the desire to accomplish everything bigger and better than anyone and everyone and the power to bring one unified vision to a mass of people, that Jackson portrayed as well. Additionally, Justin Timberlake was greatly influenced by Michael Jackson. Just like Michael, Timberlake outgrew the band he started with and launched his solo career. Timberlake kick started his career with a music video that was undeniably similar to Michael Jackson s video with the choreography to the costuming. Another famous pop singer that uses Michael Jackson s methods is, Katy Perry. Jackson and Katy Perry have been some of the only musicians to be able to oscillate between universal anthems and personal ballads (Beaumont Thomas). Finally, considerably most influenced by Michael Jackson is, Chris Brown. From his seemingly impossible dance skills to his Michael Jackson inspired fedoras, Chris Brown dedicates almost his entire style for singing, dancing, and fashion to his idol, Michael Jackson. Brown himself states, Michael Jackson is the reason why I do music and why I am an entertainer. Although Michael Jackson died over seven years ago, he still lives on through ... I Chose University Meadows Elementary School I chose University Meadows Elementary School K 12 education center not because it was the closes school in my neighborhood but because of the title that the Elementary school had. I actually had three other schools that were in my neighborhood or close to it. I at first assumed that the Elementary school was a private school because of the word University at the beginning of the schools title. Also because of the title of the school I thought that the school I would be visiting would be large, well funded, and have a verity of different students that attended the school. One sociological theme is illustrated throughout these photos. It is the diversities that can be seen in a public school, in Mecklenburg County. The sociological literature on the diversities in schooling includes several chapters we ve read, including Chapter 1 and chapter 7 readings. These chapters demonstrate diversities that can be seen in schools, such as gender, race, and sexism. Together these readings support the patterns that the photos reveal. This picture was taken in the main office where all visitors, students, and faculty can see. They were self portraits drawn by students at the school, representing the diversity of students at the school. Sadly it did not completely represent the diversity I saw in the students at the school, while I was visiting. One of the most interesting things I saw and related back to class was the traditional American Mercator maps that are seen in classrooms everywhere in America. They do not represent the diversities seen in the other Mercator maps seen in class or Peters Projection Maps. The picture on the left can be seen in the front of the main building. The picture on the right can be seen on one of the playground areas outside of the class room. We grow up with the idea, from an early age, that these are the only maps and views of the world when it comes to North America. This picture ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Creation Of The Presidency The Creation of the Presidency by Charles C. Thach is a historical analysis of the development of American Constitutional principles. The author begins by stating that the basis for American government is one that balances individual freedom and governmental strength. The moral foundations of American government are founded on the ideas of natural rights, government by contract, consent of the governed, and the right to revolt. However, the Revolutionary War at the time illuminated the need for a strong government that was able to act in times of crisis. This created the idea that government was a necessary evil for the founders. Thach examines the failures and success of State constitutions, and the national legislature to show how limited government was transformed from political theory to positive law in the United States. In politics there is a lingering question of what determines good government, Thach s analysis on the American system prove that good government must contain energy and limitations. The United States of America was founded on a distrust of monarchical governments. In response to this, the Articles of Confederation vested a majority of power into the hands of the legislature. On principle, a democratic government seems to be one that would most accurately embody the principles of limited government. However, good government is one that not only protects individual rights but as Thach shows is efficient. In his examination of the national government, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It prohibited the production and consumption of alcoholic beverages. People would have never thought of excoriating alcohol until the 19th century (Tyrrell 16). During this time widespread crime and dismay arose. Some beneficial things did come out of this period of chaos such as women were able to prove themselves as people their temperance movements. During this time many things happened that led to Prohibition s strongest point and to its fall. Prohibition proved to be a failure from the start,. Prohibition was scarcely adhered to and also widely defied but out of this women had a chance to voice their opinions and prove themselves. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This marked the end to a lengthy thirteen year period of the great experiment, which was prohibition. When the Great Depression began people complained the prohibition took away jobs and money for the government. At this period in time, people had little money or hope and alcohol was a way out. In conclusion in an effort to limit crime, alcoholism, prostitution, and poverty the United States government failed, but women had a chance to show their competency and their ability to voice their opinions. Prohibition did indeed lead to the birth and growth of organized crime. The great experiment that was prohibition did not accomplish its goals of solving the social problems of America or eliminating alcohol consumption. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Understanding the Prohibition era, the prosperity it brought, and it s effects on the American society during the 1920s enhances my interpretation of The Great Gatsby. Having knowledge about the Prohibition era allows me to experience the novel through a lens that shows how Fitzgerald portrayed the 1920s as a time of decayed values. The Prohibition era, dated between mid 1920 to early 1933, was period in American history when the manufacture, transportation and sale of intoxicating liquors were banned and forbidden because of the increase in violence and illegal activities. During the Prohibition, there was a sudden rise in capitalism through illegal sale and production of liquor, which is known as bootlegging . The character of Jay Gatsby is an example of how Fitzgerald depicted the decayed values of the 1920s. In the novel, Tom Buchanan accused Gatsby of having little stunts in his drug stores , he was adamant that Gatsby sold grain alcohol over the counter arguing that its probably where all of his wealth came from and picked him for a bootlegger (page 109). ... It has been documented in some studies that family members experience equal if not higher levels of anxiety or depression than the cancer patient themselves (Hacialioglu et al, 2010). Hasson et al (2010) found that spouses of patients who had been diagnosed with advanced breast cancer reported more psychological distress than patients and were above the clinical cutoff. These results are comparable with a study carried out by Hodges and Humphris (2009) in which caregivers of patients who had been diagnosed with cancer had higher psychological distress and fear of recurrence than the patient. Longer term survivors and caregivers were found to be more distress and anxious ( 3 years). Other studies confirmed this findings and reported partners had significantly higher levels of burden one year after treatment. This could be associated with caregivers expectation that the patient would quickly revert back to the role of partner (Schmid Buchi et al, 2011; Moreira et al, 2013). Providing care for more than twenty hours a week was significantly associated with depression among caregivers. Greater impact on caregivers schedule also predicted to increase guilt (Jaafar et al, 2014; Spillers et al, 2008). However, Tang et al (2013) found providing end of life care for a relative, guilt was derived from lacking time to provide care. Therefore caregivers who spent 17 24 hours a day may have felt less deprived than those who provided 8 hours as the patient death approached. Carers distress increases as patients cancer progresses to more advanced and terminal stages, where the patient experiences more physical symptoms like pain. Kicker: Severe water pollution that exists in far away countries, could happen right here in the San Francisco bay and its effects would be devastating. Recall the last time you drove across the Golden Gate Bridge; looking to the sea and seeing the whitecaps break against the rocks, and then looking at the bay and seeing the shimmering aqua colored water filled with sailboats. But now, try and imagine a very different picture, you look towards the bay and see oil slicks, floating tires, and islands of trash as the smell of rotting fish, gasoline and sewage fill your nose. This may sound strange and fictional, but the truth is it isn t far from possible. In fact, some of the these pollutants are flowing into the San Francisco bay already. Imagine living next to a place like this, how would that make you feel? More importantly, what are the physical health effects as a result of these pollutants? In the following article, we will explore how something like this is possible (if not probable), and what effects it could have on the health of the Bay Area. Firstly, we jump to a place far away from San Fransisco, about 7 thousand miles away to be exact Brazil; a country suffering from a variety of problems, including a devastating drought, and massive amounts of water pollution. • 14. Ancient Roman And Greek Architecture Modern Architecture around the globe had been influenced by ancient Roman and Greek architectural. Although both ancient Romans and Greeks are recognized for their innovations in architecture having both constructed a variety of buildings and structures that can still be appreciated today, they appear to have concentrated mostly on the creation of temples which at first sight seem similar but in reality they each diverged and had their own identity and served for different purposes. Ancient Greek and Roman temples were both similarly built to carry out religious or spiritual happenings, and for the adoration of their gods who were believed to protect and sustain their own community. Compared to the Romans, the purpose of building the Greeks temples originated with the idea of constructing a sacred precinct as a home for their gods which was represented by a colossal cult image placed in an inner chamber called naos or cella . According to historians, the Greek not only worshiped their gods, but they honored them as well by having daily offerings. Greek temples had servants who were in charge of ensuring the needs and care of their deities. Symbolically, their temples were a representation of their philosophy and civilization. Roman temples were somehow similar in that their temples functioned as a sacred precinct to honor the Gods. Likewise, they were represented by statues, however they had a more decorative purpose and were placed in apses instead. Equally important, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Theme Of Love In City Lights I. The one theme that connects all the films we have watched in this class is an overall theme of love this love presents itself in many different ways. In City Lights, the love between The tramp and the blind girl, in Central Station it is the love between two strangers, Dora and Josue, The Namesake has the love in an arranged marriage, Children of Heaven, the love between a brother and sister, and The Kite Runner has love between two best friends that transcends the generations. All of these movies have very different sets of characters, plots, settings, and cultures but the one theme connecting them all is love. This love presents itself in many different ways, but the love is present all the same. City Lights by Charlie Chaplin took place right here in the United States and started off the semester with a traditional view of love as a culture we often view falling in love with someone as the ideal what everyone wants. We especially want someone to love us for who we are, not the money or things that we have. In City Lights, the Tramp inadvertently tricks the blind girl into thinking that he has a lot of money. However despite this deception, he loves her, he wants to do what is best for her, even if it gets him in trouble or sends her away from him. He tries working hard to get her what she needs a cure for her blindness. Working hard does not work out for him, and he goes to great lengths to get the money for her, including the boxing match and asking the millionaire for help. He does this because he loves her deeply and he wants what is best for her. The movie ends with her being able to see and still accepting him despite the fact that he is not a millionaire. This film portrays the great American love story putting the other person first, and loving them despite their circumstances. Central Station from Brazil by Walter Salles depicts a different kind of love. This movie could have been about Josue, and the love with his mother or his brothers at the end when he finds them instead it is about the love between him and Dora, an old, sad woman with no relation to him. Throughout the film, Dora always tries to do what she thinks is best for Josue. It is misguided at first, when she sells him to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. The Sarbanes Oxley Act Summary And Introduction Reforms have been created to close the gap of corporate governance and financial reporting in order to prevent the reoccurrence of corporate scandals. Congress created a federal bill named the Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) Act in July 2002 in response to the Enron and WorldCom scandals that introduced major changes to the regulation of corporate governance and financial practice in order to protect the interest of investors and the public ( Sarbanes Oxley Act Summary and Introduction, 2003). The Act is extensive in corporate governance, which is a comprehensive theory concerned with the alignment of management and shareholders interest. The sections of the bill cover responsibilities of a public corporation s board of directors, adds criminal penalties for certain misconduct, and requires the SEC to create regulations to define how public corporations are to comply with the law (Slater, 2002). The SEC has issued more than twenty rules implementing provisions of the Act pertaining to corporate governance, financial reporting, and audit functions. The SEC has worked with NYSE and NASDAQ to harmonize the new Corporate Governance Rules. Throughout the rest of this paper, the more detailed listing requirements of the NYSE and NASDAQ will be discussed. Analytical tools are very useful because they allow decision makers to make decisions at every level of business. We are getting to the point where these tools are critical for a firm s advancement and competition. One cannot discuss dashboards without first mentioning the magnitude of today s data. Data must be scrubbed, checked for redundancy, inconsistency, irrelevance, and finally consolidated. These processes are not a joke; each of them take a significant amount of effort and time. Many BI tools have automated some of these processes. The next step is taking the consolidated data and inputting it into a system to create some sort of meaning. She is believed to have killed herself out of madness by drowning herself in a river. Interpretations about Ophelia s character have ranged from being a woman who lost her sanity upon her father, Polonius death to being the object of hatred by Hamlet. However, despite her supporting character in the play, her personality has roused numerous criticisms and interpretations from philosophers and critics. This is probably due to the fact that her role in the play is more of a descriptive character rather than a speaking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The costs of such religions refers to the madness and ultimately the death of Ophelia. It can be presumed through Chapman s statement that the Catholic religion puts more pressure down on Ophelia as she tries to overcome her marriage problems and her sexual desires. Ironically though, instead of feeling ashamed, Ophelia resorts to the old lauds to assure herself of peace and solace. Therefore, it is also safe to conclude that it is her religion or piety which takes away her fear. This is evident in the fact that she drowns just after she chanted such old lauds . Erin Campbell provides a more psychological and sociological approach in the character analysis of Ophelia. She argues that Ophelia suffers from hysteria, a malady often ascribed to upper class women who bide their time in their fathers homes while awaiting fulfillment of their culturally mandated roles as wives and mothers (Campbell). Campbell proves her point by comparing Ophelia s character to that of Quentin Compson who also drowned herself as a result of unrequited love, patriarchal restrictions and losses. Truthfully, it is the social environment of Ophelia which caused her madness. Feeling imprisoned and manipulated by the people around her, she felt that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. The Transformation of the Role of Women within Victorian... The role of women during the Victorian Era has been a prevalent topic over the course of the semester. Women during that time had limited rights, and the rights they did have were equivalent to that of children. Domesticity, caring for their husband and children was the focus of their livelihood. As England continued to grow and industrialize, women became more marginalized, while men continued to grow into dominant members of society, this is known as the notion of separate spheres. The notion of separate spheres was not limited to the role women and men had in the home, but extended into the streets and the workplace. Men were seen as formidable, intellectual, and the governing sex; whereas, women on the other hand, were disregarded as emotionally unstable, dominated by their sexuality, and submissive to men s wants and desires. Women were not only given limited rights to the roles they had in society, but also were not given the right to choose whom they wanted to marry. A majority of women had no other option but to marry as a way to maintain their livelihood, unless they were members of high social standings. Additionally, the rights of a woman were again lessened after she wed. The moment a woman married, she automatically became the property of her husband. The limited rights she had before were stripped away: her property, identity, and value ceased to exist the moment she became the helpmate to a man. The ideology of the role women played did not ... From all the readings I did and past education on these individuals I found they have a lot of the same views in regards to religion. Both Emlie Durkheim and Karl Marx believe that religion is a projection of mans hopes and desires. They both also agree that religion plays a powerful role in influencing the members of a society. While coming up with these theories they were both more concerned with the human rather than the religion. Both of them did not believe in a god or gods. It s been said that Marx saw god as idealization of human nature while Durkheim believed the idea of a god was society itself. They were not religious people so it s interesting that they did have some of the same views and theories regarding religion in the society. The differences between them are pretty simple. As I was previously comparing their views on religion I can continue that with talking about their differences in regards to religion, Marx argues that religion oppresses the people in the society while Durkheim argues that religion unites the society. For example, there is less mass in the Universe than predicted. While some have confidently expected that the missing mass would be located, it has yet to be found. Could the next few years throw up a completely new theory of how the Universe started? Robotics and artificial intelligence, commonly known as AI, are two related fields of research which promise much. One of the best known schemes is the Cog Project a humanoid robot that can act, talk and even look like a person. Hans Moravec, an AI pioneer, believes that by 2030 robots will be able to visualise tasks and assess the consequences of their actions. By 2040 robots should be able to reason at least as efficiently as people. Moravec even envisages a world where robots will display superhuman reasoning . By 2050, emotions will be commonplace because they will help machines to bond with their human masters. All this, however, raises an intriguing question: will robots be so similar to us that they, too, will start wondering where they came from? As well as showing awareness of the world, will they be aware of themselves? In other words, will they be self conscious? By the middle of the next century, we may even begin to wonder whether such advanced robots, with their enormous mental capacities and physical strength, pose a threat to their human inventors. The cyborg the fusion of man and machine is another plausible prospect in our lifetime. Doctors have already devised silicon chips ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. Essay on Massachusetts Bay Colony The government of the Massachusetts Bay Colony was simultaneously theocratic, democratic, oligarchic, and authoritarian in different ways. The Puritans founded the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1628 and wanted a well established government, but they ended up mixing all of these together. This colony was important because it was one of the first provincial and true governments to be introduced into the colonies. It also provided an example to other colonies to base their governments on. The Massachusetts Bay Colony can be said to have been partly theocratic based on a couple of reasons. For example, the Puritans believed that they had a covenant with God to build a society that would be a model for humankind. This shows partly theocracy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This control from a small group of people may have been what the people thought was the right thing to do at the time, but it was somewhat why they had come to the New World in the first place was to get rid of a single person ruling everyone. Last but not least the government of the Massachusetts Bay Colony was partly authoritarian for many reasons. The colony favored a strict set of rules and taxes and stuck to them. This shows the authoritarian government. The Governor set the taxes and laws based on the will of the church and what was the right thing to do. They even had strict rules about kissing in public, and various other inappropriate things considered to be wrong by the church. Some states were nicknamed after the color of the paper that the laws were printed on. The irony of this is that the people wanted to live an easier life with more freedom from the government and religion, but then proceeded to promote and carry out repressive laws such as kissing in public. As you can see the Massachusetts Bay Colony was very diverse in its form of government and how the colony was run. Some people say it consists of a mix of all of these forms of governments (theocracy, democracy, oligarchy, and authoritarian) when in fact the government was one of a kind and very influential to other colonies. It helped other colonies because it helped them decided to take bits and pieces of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The day start like every normal day. I remember waking up at about 7:25 and took a shower after that i put on my school uniform. I remember I had coffee and with a baguette (a long thin French bread made from basic lean dough). I left my house at exactly 8:00 o clock and arrived at the school right before class started. I was in 6th and if you were in my grade, recess was always at 12:30 for us. That day, at recess I bought a patty with the dollar my Aunt gave me and played soccer with my friends and I remember we made the ball using socks and plastic bags. • 45. Anthropogenic Effects on Coral Reefs Essay Abstract: Humans have a very large effect on the ecosystems of coral reefs. Sensitivity of coral reefs causes them to be more susceptible to harmful anthropogenic practices. Some of these are sedimentation, global warming, recreational activities, poison fishing, blast fishing practices, water pollution, and coral mining. All of these very different practices can effectively end up with the same results; the mortality of coral reefs around the world. Coral reefs are an important ecosystem of the world, and support many different industries and millions of people. Introduction Coral Reefs are said to be the tropical rainforest of the sea. They are home to over 25% of all marine life ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a result of this, more sediment is released into rivers that flow out into the ocean and coral reefs. Mangrove Forests are found between 32 degrees north and 38 degrees south latitude (www.earthisland.org ). They protect the coastlines from erosion, storm damage, and wave action. They also serve as sediment traps from inland sources, and help protect coral reefs from over sedimentation. As land clearing and intensive farming increase these important ecosystems become scarce (Wolanski and Spagnol 1999). Clearing the land causes an increase in soil erosion, creating mud that flows out to coral reefs. Nowlis et. al. (1997), found more sediment and coral damage on reefs closest to large river mouths. Sedimentation ultimately smothers coral reefs by reducing sunlight needed for photosynthesis (Birkeland ). Normally corals can sustain low levels of sediment supply by using natural removal processes. Over time they are unable to remove the sediment if there is too much sediment in the water (Grigg and Dollar 1990). In worst case scenarios sediments can bury corals completely. This was the case about 35 years ago in Castle Harbor, Bermuda. After dredging practices took place, corals that were found with in confined water circulation had a catastrophic mortality rate (Brown 1997). Water Pollution There are two significant types of water pollution that harm coral reefs; sewage run off and oil spills. Not all human waste is processed through ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
