Inequality To Women By Gavin O Nanabush Creates The World
Inequality To Women A girl ran in the lush jade fields under the natural foliage of the towering
giants of the forest. Every plant was beautiful, but one glistening flora of purity stood out to her,
planted by a dark man of apprehensive incitement and another man of familiar memory. In a
different tale, the womanfalls asleep with a baneful and sneaky reptile. And in another, she causes
the destruction of her own intimate kind. Nanabush Creates the World collected by Emerson and
David Coatsworth, Orpheus and Eurydice composed by Michael Gibson, Theseus and the Minotaur

In the story Theseus and the Minotaur , the belief is glaringly discernible, evident as a woman
named Ariadne, is put into a certain scenario. Theseus goes to enter the Labyrinth and Ariadne ...
open[s] out the bundle [hidden] beneath her mantle and [gives] Theseus a sword, wrought with
patterns and designs on blade and hilt. (O Rahilly 3). Theseus in the story is the man who is
capable of doing the impossible. While Ariadne lives on the island Crete for a presumably lengthy
course of time; she is granted the brilliant chance of slaying the Minotaur and climatically liberating
the sacrifices to the Minotaur s annual feast. Nonetheless, Ariadne does not undertake in the
excursion to exterminate the omnipotent monstrosity. The myth exaggerates the role of men as the
individuals who most definitely must safeguard the rest of society as Theseus is the palpable hero.
It skims over the fact that Ariadne or a woman can accomplish the same feat as Theseus. Howbeit,
Theseus would have been without the capability of vanquishing the Minotaur without Ariadne. She
is a great benefactor in the annihilation as she gives Theseus the necessary materials and inside
intelligence to be advantageous against the beast. In spite of all her efforts, she remains as an

What is the key structural question which is discussed in this chapter and why is this question
important?
The report Small Business Taxationwritten by Claire Crawford and Judith Freedman (2008) focuses
on how small businesses are taxed and how improvements can be made to the system. The focal
point is on the impenetrability created by taking different approaches when taxing diverse
businesses with different legal forms. Crawford and Freedman look into depth of the differences
between taxing an employed and self employed contractor. Although all aspects and issues of
taxation within a small business are not covered it does provide background information on the key
structural question. The structural issues have been brought to attention for a number of years
however more recently this has had an impact with the UK resulting in the introduction, diminution
and the extraction of the starting rate of the corporation tax and for the increasing rates of national
insurance contributions imposed on the employed and self employed. These changes have

Rhetorical Analysis Of Pepsi
Pepsi Cola On a, hot, humid, bright Sunday afternoon a high school couple are walking on the
beach. Sweaty and unhappy about to melt, one is almost about to pass out. However it seems as
if they need some help. They seem so sad so I whisper in his ear buy her Pepsi Cola, buy her
Pepsi Cola, come on buy her Pepsi Cola I promise you will make her happy Said Pepsi Cola. The
boy, confused about the little voice in his head, he decides to take her to buy a drink. What
could I get you guys to drink? Said the waiter. The girl confused turned to him and said you
choose so the guy told the waiter, Get me a bucket of the one and only drink that can make
people wonderful, the one and only drink that can refresh people, the drink that will make her
love me more two minutes later the waiter comes with a big smile on his face and a big bucket
of Pepsi Cola with ice and says here you go, the only and best drink that makes the lady s happy

Active Denial System Paper
Active Denial System The Active Denial System (ADS) is an electromagnetic, directed energy,
non lethal weapon designed by the US military and built by Raytheon (Cumming, 2010). The
ADS works by producing 95GHz electromagnetic radiation that is focused in a beam at a target
(Wikipedia, 2014). These 3.2mm electromagnetic waves work on the same principal as a
microwave oven. The waves excite water and fat molecules instantly heating them through
dielectric heating (Wikipedia, 2014). Due to the extremely high frequency of these waves, the
energy from them is absorbed in within the first 0.4mm of skin, meaning they do not affect vital
organs, blood vessels or nerve endings (Wikipedia, 2014). Due to these attributes, and the results of
numerous studies, in which the worst injury inflicted by the ADS were pea sized blisters, with a 1
in 1000 chance of this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This becomes a major problem when there is a large amount of water in the environment. In a
situation with low humidity, the ADS has an effective operating range in excess of 500m
(Danyalov, 2014). The ADS though is adversely affected by weather conditions, such as fog, rain,
snow, sleet, and dust storms. The rain, fog, snow and sleet all reduce the range and effectiveness of
the beam by absorbing the radiation it produces. The dust storm reduces the range of the ADS, not
by absorbing the radiation, but by deflecting and dispersing it. Both of these situations mean that
the full power of the ray is no longer reaching its intended target, which may moderate the ADS s
sensation to warm and comfortable (Cumming, 2010). Along with aspects of the environment
blocking the device, it can be countered by very reflective material such as aluminium foil
(Cumming, 2010). Along with aluminium foil, a defence of sprinklers that produce a fine mist,
similar to fire defence systems found on rural homes, could be used to counter the

Abortion, when the topic comes up, it is usually something people do not like to discuss. People
may tend to avoid this issue for fear of offending or angering others but it is extremely important
that the horrors of this brutal practice be addressed. During the years 1965 1996 over 515 million
babies have been murdered, this is if you add the number of chemical and surgical abortions
(www.rockforlife.org). This is what we need to understand: abortion kills and we need to know
where it came from.
The legalization of abortion started in Mississippi in the year 1966; it was used in the cases of
rape. Then other states began to expand the use of abortion. For instance, if it was the case of rape,

One way is called Partial Birth Abortion (D amp;X); it can kill babies up to thirty two weeks old.
The abortionist (murderer in this case) removes all of the baby from the mother except for the

suck out the babies brain. Then he uses forceps to crush the babies skull and pull the rest of the
babies body out. Salt poisoning is also used, where salt is injected and the bay dies of convulsions
due to salt poisoning (www.rockforlife.org). If they can say this is not murder, then what is?
Abortion is not painless for the mother either. Over ninety seven percent of women have reported
feeling pain it is often described as intense, severe, or very severe. Abortion is also not without
side effects. Complications such as bleeding, hemorrhaging, menstrual disturbances or
inflammation of the reproductive organs. Sometimes abortion can cause damage to the uterus and
make the woman infertile for the rest of her life. (Abortion some medical facts pamphlet.) Also if
you are a women and have had an abortion you increase your chances of having breast cancer by
fifty percent. Abortion has no good results in for the mother or the poor murdered baby. In the end
it will always cause physical and emotional pain.

An Analysis of Joseph Nye s Use of Soft Power and its Relationship with Morality in
International Relations Recently, the United States has lost a great deal of power in the
international arena because of its invasion of Iraq and torture of prisoners of war. The United
States holds an incredible edge in military capabilities over any other nation and the US benefits
from the largest economy in the world. In a world where there is one single superpower, why is
that superpower unable to force feed policy through coercion or payoff? Theoretically, the US
ought to be able to rule the world with a double edged sword of military muscle and economic
supremacy. These tangible aspects of power should be all that US needs to be the... Show more

Joseph Nye offers an alternative theory for the construct of State power. He created a system in
which State power is broken into two parts; hard power and soft power. Hard power consists of
the traditional, tangible aspects of power namely, military and economic power. Soft power is
the key distinguishing dynamic of Nye s work from other theories. Soft power consists of all
other facets of power, such as ideology, foreign policy, culture, stability, prosperity, and
membership in international organizations (Bound to Lead 130 and Paradox xi, 8). The modern
world is becoming more interconnected and interdependent with one another, hence depending
less on sticks and carrots and more on soft power. The missing link within perceived State power
is the role morality plays in actual power. This study will show that soft power is implicitly, and
at rare times explicitly, founded in moral values. The definition of morality or what constitutes
proper morals is a difficult task and may be explained differently 100 times if one were to ask
100 people. Generally speaking, being moral is conforming to the standards of good or right. This
vague definition is open for many interpretations. As mentioned, morality is not recognized
internationally or is scrutinized as a weakness by the realist community, at least not openly so.
Morality has played a role in international affairs and war for centuries.

Pagodes, Pour Le Piano, And The Javanese Gamelan
1889 was the year where Claude Debussy became particularly interested in Javanese Gamelan.
Northern European musicians constantly searched for new and exotic sound worlds, different to
the Nineteenth Century German Romanticism from which they were trying to move away. It was
when Debussy visited the 1889 Paris Universal Exposition that he became intrigued with the
exhibit from Java, (an island in the Malay Archipelago). The Java exhibit was a model village
which presented many aspects of the communal village life whereby Gamelanplayed one of the
main roles in the religious and social areas. Javanese Gamelan, consisting of a collection of
instruments, mostly metallic with gong or bell like sounds caused enthusiasm and excitement
among the European musicians, due to its well developed, powerful and beautiful style that had
complete uniqueness and broke all rules of what music could and should be. Robert Godet (a
friend of Debussy) remarked that many fruitful hours were spent in the Javanese Kampong
(Village) . Debussy was said to be captivated with Gamelan, listening to the Percussive rhythmic
complexities and its inexhaustible combinations of celestial, flashing timbres. Amidst Debussy s
works, Pagodes , Pour Le Piano and L isle Joyeuse , incorporate into their pieces numerous aspects
of Javanese Gamelan, whether it be the interlocking patterns between the left and right hand, or

Donald Trump has suggested that a contest should be held as to which television network covers
him in the most dishonest, corrupt and or/distorted way, as he has again labeled many of the
outlets fake news. It is one of some attacks by the president against the press coverage he receives,
with the most vitriolic coming back in August when he referred the assembled journalists as truly
dishonest and sick people. Mr. Trump also used the term your favorite president, a moniker he has
used recently that is despite his approval ratings telling a different story.
Literature Review The press is basic to vote based system, and popularity based race is

Cleary Death Penalty
Death to the Death Penalty Contrary to popular belief, the death penalty s approval ratings have
decreased throughout the years, as a study executed by Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg explains how
only three states administer the death penalty these days. Capital punishment has worked for a few
years to scare those who desire to commit a federal crime, but because the usage continually
diminishes (despite in a few states), why would the government keep the death penaltyif it costs
them millions per year? Cleary, the best option remains: to eliminate this form of punishment once

$170 million on cases where no executions were made, according to a study done by Richard

Even Pope John Paul II believes that capital punishment must be eradicated from societies, as he

The Importance Of A Representative Senate
Senators come from Canada s regions, but did not represent them J. Patrick Boyer, 2014, 222
This paper will argue that Canada should reform the Senate because it is not representative.
Representation is defined as the action or speaking or acting on behalf of someone or the state of
being so represented (Oxford, 2015). In relation to Senate representation, it is known as the
disjointed relationship of Senators with their respected regions and citizens as well as their
fiduciary relationship with the Head of State, also known in Canadian parliament as the Prime
Minister. The true intentions of the Senate will be uncovered and divulged to further explain and

Alongside the drastic changes through technological advancements in Canada correlating with the
inflated numbers in population since confederation, it is concerning that the Senate is still
organized and acting in the same manner it has been since its creation. There have been minor
amendments to regional representation due to new provinces being added to Canada, but those
amendments do not accommodate the vast growing populations within regions. The way in which
Senators are appointed due to affiliation with the Prime Minister rather than representing the unique
needs of regions continues to be prevalent. The Senate still serves as the most undemocratic portion
of Canadian Parliament due to the appointment rather than the election of its representatives, which

Duncan Influence On Macbeth
The play Macbeth by William Shakespeare is both a haunting and controversial play. In this play,
the main character, Macbeth, meets three witches after fighting a battle for his king, Duncan. These
witches foretell that Macbeth will become the Thane of Cawdor and will be king hereafter . They
also prophecy that Macbeths travelling companion, friend, and fellow soldier, Banquo, would be
the father of many kings. A little while later, messengers tell Macbeth that King Duncan had named
him the Thane of Cawdor (1:3). This news affirmed Macbeth of the witches prophecy and
influenced him towards murdering Duncan, the king of Scotland. The three witchesand his wife,

Once he murdered Duncan, he feared Banquo suspected him of performing the murder. This fear
grew into a paranoia and soon he was arranging for Banquo s murder and his children as well
(3:1.64 77). Macbeth was aware of the prophecy that Banquo s children would be kings. He
wanted to do whatever he could to prevent his throne from being taken from him. Therefore,
Macbeth saw fit to kill Banquo s children as well as Banquo. After this killing, Macbeth still did
not feel secure. He was angered Macduff had fled to england and was afraid he was conspiring
against him, so in a fit of range, he had Macduff s family and servants murdered in cold blood
(4:1.168 175). Macbeth chose not to stop killing people. He says, From this moment/The very
firstlings of my heart shall be/the firstlings of my hand. And even now,/ To crown my thoughts
with acts, be it thought and/ done. These lines show Macbeth s resolve to kill as he sees fit and
do whatever he sees fit in the moment. This is his choice to continue murdering and do what he
needs to stay king. He also says in Act 3 Scene 4 lines 168 170, For mine own good,/ All causes
shall give way. I am in blood/ Stepped in so far that, should I wade no more,/ Returning were as

Democracy Vs Athenian Democracy
Many historian have said that the Athenian created the first society to have democracy. Democracy
was born in the middle of the fifth century B.C. in Athens. A democracy is a government by the
people or rule by the majority. Perhaps the United States took a couple of ideas from the Athenian
constitution to the States constitution. But at the same time there is a difference in both these two
powerful nations. The differences about modern America is what the Founding Fathers planed
about the size of the democracyand how the citizens can have an input in that said democracy. I
argue that there is a comparison between Athenian democracy and modern democracy because
Athens was the first society to create a democracy and constitution. At the time... Show more

Athens consists of two different bodies. A council of around 500 and assembly of around 6,000
people. The 500 councillors from the Legislative Branch were selected randomly from the male
populations that were citizens. The councillors could not serve no more than two terms in Athens.
For the Executive Branch, the Athien could only serve for one term. The remainder of the
government was held by the Magistrates. The Magistrates was a host of commissioners,
functionaries, and minor officials. Law enforcement was not a service offered by the Athenian.
In the Judicial Branch had only 6,000 volunteers. Public and private were the two kinds of
arbitrations available. For the private, two parties in the dispute would have selected a mutually
agreeable third person or persons to have a decision in the case. And for the public, it consisted

understand the content for games and its appropriateness for those who will be playing those
games. This system uses a M rating, for mature games, intended for an audience of those who are
17 or older. These games receive a rating of mature due to their violence, language, and sometimes,
sexual content.
The reason I chose this topic is its recent controversy with the video game, Grand Theft Auto V.
This game is under recent scrutiny because of the ability to enact various crimes such as murder,
torture, grand theft auto, and the solicitation of prostitutes. Although this is an extreme example
of a violent video game, it serves as a good base of understanding as far as what is available to
the public. The current question that has risen from this game is, do violent video games evoke
violent tendencies in kids? I would argue no, this is not the cause for violent tendencies in kids. As
well, my stance

Epigenetic Cell Memory Essay
Cellular phenotypes can be ascribed to different patterns of gene expression. Epigenetic mechanisms
control the generation of different phenotypes from the same genotype. Thus differentiation is
basically a process driven by changes in gene activity during development, often in response to
transient factors or environmental stimuli. To keep the specific characteristics of cell types,
tissue‐specific geneexpression patterns must be transmitted stably from one cell to the daughter
cells, also in the absence of the early‐acting determination factors. This heritability of patterns of
active and inactive genes is enabled by mechanisms of epigenetic cellular memory that ensures
mitotic and sometimes also meiotic transmission of expression patterns [1].... Show more content on

The cell memory machinery is involved in maintaining cell type specific gene expression patterns
rather than its establishment. Cellular memory is provided by two counteracting groups of
chromatin proteins termed Trithorax group (TrxG) and Polycomb group (PcG) [2]. Proteins of the
Polycomb group (PcG) and of the trithorax group (trxG) are involved in the regulation of key
developmental genes, such as homeotic genes. PcG proteins maintain silent states of gene
expression, while the trxG of genes counteracts silencing with a chromatin opening function. In
Drosophila, PcG and trxG complexes are recruited to specific DNA elements named as PcG and
trxG response elements (PREs and TREs, respectively). Once recruited, these complexes seem to be
able to establish silent or open chromatin states that can be inherited through multiple cell divisions
even after decay of the primary silencing or activating signal

(Kurfiss 1988 cited in Baril et al. 1998, p. 383) However critical thinking has no one, universally
accepted definition. This perhaps represents the first difficulty in incorporating such skills into
accounting education; no one can agree on what precisely critical thinking skills encompass (Young
and Warren 2011). Pascarella and Terezini (2005, p.155) summarise these skills to include: The
general intellectual outcomes of postsecondary education that permit individuals the process and
utilize new information; communicate effectively; reason objectively and draw objective
conclusions from various types of data; evaluate new ideas and techniques efficiently; become
more objective about beliefs, attitudes, and values; evaluate arguments and claims critically; and
make reasonable decisions in the face of imperfect information. Education plays an imperative role
in developing these skills. Young and Warren (2011), in their review of the education literature,
stated that a number of cross sectional research studies have shown that a student s critical thinking
ability can improve while at college. While Parcarella and Terenzini (2005) approximate that a
student can improve their critical thinking skills by 63% by the end of their sophomore year.
According to Hurt (2007) these skills must be developed consistently, purposefully and rationally
over time to enable students to appropriately respond to the intricate issues that the working

Causes, Symptoms, And Treatments
Graves disease
Causes, symptoms, and treatments by Mary Smith
Graves disease is an immune system disorder that results in the overproduction of hormones
(hyperthyroidism). Many disorders may be a result in hyperthyroidism, Graves disease is the most
common cause.
Thyroid hormones affect many different body systems, signs and symptoms associated with
Graves disease can wide ranging and can influence your over all wellbeing. Graves disease may
affect anyone, it s more common among women and before the age of 40. Primary treatment goals
are to inhibit the overproduction of thyroid hormones and lesson the severity of the symptoms.
There are numerous signs that allude to the presence of Graves disease, most notably is a large
protruding bulb associated with the thyroid gland (goiter), changes in the menstrual cycle, bulging
eyes (Graves ophthalmopathy), and less common is Graves demopathy, or thick, red skin usually
found on the shins or tops of the feet.
One of the most telling symptoms of Graves disease presents in about 30% of those diagnosed
with the condition is Graves ophthalmopathy. Graves ophthalmopathy refers to bulging of the eyes,
exophthalmos, a gritty sensation in the eyes, pressure and/or pain in the eyes, puffy or retracted
eye lids, reddened or inflamed eyes, sensitivity to light, double vision, or outright vision loss. While
these signs are strongly associated with Graves disease, the symptoms do not associate solely with
the condition.

The Meaning Of Life By Julian Baggini
When people invest an abundant amount of time in a task, whether it be trivial and mundane like
finishing the laundry, or important and time consuming like attaining a degree, they tend to want to
be validated that they are spending their time in a meaningful way. Philosophers are often sought
out for their wisdom and to answer the deep and mind bending questions common people don t
intensely ponder. Though what the meaning of lifeis seems to be unique to each individual, when a
philosopher asserts they have revelated the meaning of life, it is imperative to investigate their
claims. In an article entitled Revealed the meaning of life, philosopher Julian Baggini claims he
knows the answer to one of life s most burning question, what is... Show more content on

To illustrate his line of thinking relating to these concepts, he compares the pondering of life to a
Celine Dion concert. He explains Compare that to a more mundane question, such as why on
earth you are sitting in the front row waiting for a Celine Dion concert to begin. One answer is
because you bought a ticket, took a train and then your seat. That explains why you re there in a
backward looking way. Another answer is that you re there because you want to hear Dion sing,
which explains your presence in a forward looking (though somewhat baffling) way. The moral of
this extended yet amusing metaphor is that the answer one is searching for dictates the approach
they implement to find said answer. Both methods, contemplating the future and the past, are still
majorly flawed, as neither looking forwards nor backwards truly give the answer to the meaning
of a person s life or why they are on earth.
While looking at one s ancestry and roots reveals where a person is originated from and the route
that lead them to where they are today, it does not necessarily reveal the reasoning as to why
they are in their current reality. Baggini explains this by stating, It is perhaps surprising how
often it is assumed that a look back to our origins will lead us to the meaning of life . . . if we take
a long, cold look back to our origins, we just find ape like ancestors and an evolutionary trail that
leads back to the big bang. Whether an individual believes

The Role Of Victor Isolation In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
The Enlightenment left a residue of creativity that gradually paved the way for another artistic
revolution known as romanticism. The concept of romanticism (early 19th century) emphasizes on
the inner emotions and imagination of the individual while at the same time expressing deep
interest in nature and the supernatural. During the romantic movement, one major contribution was
the birth of Gothic fiction. One author who strived under this literary genre was Mary Shelley.
Ever since she was a child, Shelly spent her hours of leisure in creative writing. Her years in
creative writing can be displayed in her chilling Gothic novel Frankenstein. This controversial novel
expresses the relationship between a hideous creature and his creator, Victor... Show more content

The Impact Of Technology On Change Management
This presentation is about the use of technology in change management. We will review how
technology facilitates changes management. Then recommend best practice for changing
management. This presentation begins by analyzing the report by Mondal (2011) called
Entrepreneurship in U.S. Auto Industry: Ford Stay Ahead. Henry Fordis the founder of Ford Motor
Company. As a successful entrepreneur Ford s practice included technological innovationfor cost
cutting measure, introduction of new products, expansion of new market and created new
economic organization. Using Schumpeter s five factor model we will analyze entrepreneurship
around innovation.
Ford s Technologyin Change Management
In Ford s initial years, innovation technology was used to remodel the most popular model cars;
this increase profit for the business. It used to take Ford 14 hours to build the T model car; he
reduced labor cost using a time known as mass production method. This method reduced the
assembly time to1 hr. 33 minutes. This innovation technology reduced labor cost for the new Model
T (Mondal, 2011).
Entrepreneur take risk: by creating new products, adapts to new production process, create new
market, and create new technology and economic for an organization. According to Michaelides
Kardasi (2010) development depends upon innovation. This concept includes an introduction of
new goods, new methods of production; the opening of a new market, conquest of a new source of
supply and carries out

The Manhattan Project
In the early 20th century, there were numerous groundbreaking advances in science. One of the
most important ones was the splitting of the atom or nuclear fission. Physicists realized that fission
could release tremendous amounts of energy in a form of a bomb. With WWII in the horizon, the
U.S. government decided to launch the Manhattan Project, the race to develop the world s first
atomic bomb. The project took about 7 years, approximately $2 billion, and around 130,000
personnel to complete, (Hall, By the Numbers: World War II s atomic bombs ). The eventually
success of the project would change countries around the globe forever. The results of the
Manhattan Project opened up a new field of possibilities, leaving behind numerous consequences.

with the Puritan ideals with punishment. The main protagonist, Hester Prynne, is the primary
target for these harsh effects. Nathaniel Hawthorneuses the novel The Scarlet Letterto appeal to the

Catullus Poem
Catullus Gaius Valerius Catullus was a latin poet of the late Roman Republic who wrote poems that
conveyed intense and confronting emotions. Catullus was a technical master who wrote in a
spectacular range of different verse patterns. Although Catullus was written by the latin poet
himself, the version I came across with was the translation of Peter Green. Catullus poems are
varied among imitations of Greek poets, comic verse, lovepoems and several more. The author s
poems do imitate Sappho s poems, but the only difference is that Catullus does mention the
identify of the person he is referring to. Sparrow, precious darling of my sweetheart,/ always her
plaything, held fast in her bosom... (poem 2, pg. 942). This text demonstrated the identity to the
object the author was referring to. There are various of themes within the poems, but the major one

really perfect, since she is married,, it is actually the base of an ideal love. The creation of Lesbia
in his poems is the image of the woman that a man loves. Catullus believed love had so much

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Beowulf
The strengths of heroes in epic poems has been written on a countless amount of times. Why?
Because the heroes strengths are plainly displayed in the literature and the weaknesses are not.
However, the weaknesses can be found where the heroes turn to for strength. In the Epic of
Beowulf, the journey begins with the terrorization of the Mead Hall by an awful monster named
Grendel. Beowulfcomes in and saves the day by killing Grendel and he receives riches and fame
for doing so. Then, stricken with grief, Grendel s mother comes to the mead hall to avenge the
death of her son. Beowulf goes and fights Grendel s mother in her home in the swamp and
manages to kill her with a sword forged by giants. After this battle, he is more beloved than the
one before and is endlessness praised and rewarded. Then, fifty years later, Beowulf is the king
of Geat and a thief angers the dragon. Beowulf then decides to kill the dragon himself. He
manages to kill the dragon with the help of a Geat named Wiglaf, but loses his life in the process.
In the Epic of Gilgamesh, our hero has a rough beginning with actions that resemble a villain more
than a hero. Then the God s create Enkiduto tame Gilgamesh. Gilgamesh and Enkidu become best
friends after their first tumultuous meeting and go on many adventures together. After one
adventure, Gilgamesh and Enkidu return and Gilgamesh is propositioned by the goddess of love
who he refuses. Then she is angered and demands her father send the bull of heaven

The Things That Makes One Tick
In other words, what are the things that makes one tick? That brings us to choose certain paths,
even if the underlying truth of these paths hasn t been recognized. The things that makes us ticks
can be thought of mistakes. A professor of psychology and behavioral economics, Dan Ariely,
studied this issue up close. Through his book, Predictably Irrational, these mistakes are both
explained and contextualized as human error. Something that all of us do on a daily basis without
any recognition. And even when we recognize our misconceptions, we still have a tendency to do it
again. While reading Predictably Irrational, I came across several personal . Things like,
procrastinationand overvaluing materialistic things are two of many misconceptions I have been
aberrant to. We, humans, have a tendency to be aberrant, walking out of reasonable paths and into
irrational ones. Ariely thoroughly explains how emotions dictate behaviors and decisions we
make. Us procrastinators, acknowledge that we do infact procrastinate. The real problem is how
we act, knowing we have tendencies to procrastinate. Emotions rush through our veins and speaks
louder then our consciousness. As Ariely explained, we are in the cool state when we are making
promises such as, spending less or exercising more with a diet. But as soon as we spot materialistic
things, our emotions come rush in bringing us to the hot state. When we ignore our long term goals
for the immediate fulfilment, we are in fact

Rate Equation And Order Of Reactant
Rate equation and order of reactant:
The rate of reaction is defined as how fast the reactant is converted to the product and it is
measured in moldm 3s 1
Rate=(change in concentration(гЂ–moldmгЂ—^( 3)))/(time taken (s)) , the unit of rate = moldm
3s 1
Rate = k [A]x [B]y [C]y
Orders of the reaction must be taken in to account when writing a rate equation. Where A, B and C
are reactant, x, y and z are the orders of the reaction with respect to A, B and C.
In my investigation I will vary the concentration of each reactant and I will measure time taken for
the reaction to turn colourless. I will use rate=1/time formula to calculate the rate of the reaction.

Collision theory:
Reactions only occur when particle of the reactant collide with a certain minimum kinetic energy.
This energy is also known as activation enthalpy this energy must be supplied to the reactant to
enable the bonds to stretch and break and the new bonds to form in the product. Most collisions do
not result in a reaction, only the collision with enough activation enthalpy will react to produce the
product. (1)(2) (10)
Concentration: The collision theory states that for any reaction to take place the two reactant
molecule must collide first. The rate of a reaction depends on the frequency of the collision between
the particles. Increasing the concentration of reactants increases the number of particles available to
react in the same volume of solution. More successful frequent collisions occur in a given time,
with sufficient activation energy to break the chemical bond. Therefore the rate of reaction will
increase. (1)(2)(6)
Surface area: Increasing the surface area of a solid reactant means more particles are exposed to the
other reactant, the number of reaction sites increase therefore it will react more quickly increasing
the reaction time.
Catalyst: A catalyst will increase the rate of reaction by lowering the activation enthalpy without
being chemically unchanged. They do this by providing an alternative pathway, forming an
intermediate compound with the reactant and then it forms the product from

I believe that it is vital that as a Catholic School educator, I live as Jesus did, setting the tone and
modeling my faith. I am called to serve my faith as an educator. Catholic school education is not
about the money, you are there because you love and believe in the mission. I need exposure of
the students, families, faculty and staff to the teaching through the Gospels; all while provide an
excellent foundation for all students and while also evangelizing the larger faith community. In
order to evangelize I need to look to inspire and take from the religious leaders of the past. If I
expect to spark faith in others, I have to show how my faith is burning in

Classic Chic Bride Persuasive Essay
Classic Chic Bride and Groom Cake Toppers
These days, most couples don t resonate with the traditional plastic bride and groom cake toppers.
You remember, the formally attired bride and groom with big plastic smiles, painted on their little
plastic faces. Yet, some couples do want a traditional wedding, complete with all the rituals.
Fortunately, there are refreshing alternatives for the old standbys! You may still have your bride
and groom figurines, except they will be crafted from hand painted porcelain or long lasting acrylic,
rather than cheap plastic.
And because the 2016 focus is on the couple s story, there are scads of figurines symbolizing
scenes such as, first dance, first kiss, relaxing in the garden, etc.
Here are some of our favourite classic chic bride and groom cake toppers. ... Show more content on

Tet Offensive History
There is no better way to describe the year 1968 than as important, tumultuous, and just flat out
crazy. The three articles this time around looked at the whole year and outlined different important
events and ideas that came about during this time. I wanted to touch on the Tet offensive, the
different social movements of the time and the role of the media. All of these aspects came together
to form the perfect storm of 1968. The Tet offensive is touched in both The Doves Ascendant: The
American Antiwar Movement in 1968 and 1968: The End and the Beginning in the United States
and Western Europe . As we learned in class the Tet offensive was a military strategy that caught

Student Radicalisms and 1968 in Germany by Michael A. Schmidtke shows the less peaceful
movements in Germany. Schmidtke shows how the German students were influenced by the
peaceful sit ins and marches from the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee in America, but
soon became more violent than many protests in the United States. Overall, the German students
wanted higher education to be reformed, emergency laws to be not become laws, and for the
freedom of speech from the Springer press. Throughout his article, Schmidtke parallels the events in
Germany to what is happening in the United States, but he always points out something that makes
the Germans actions seem harsher. Many of the students in Germany were becoming more
educated, seeing the progression of the world around them, and seeing the err of their elder s ways.
Truly, most of what they were asking for was needed in Germany, but the violence that followed
their movement made it difficult for changes to

Standards Based Professional Learning
Because of the demand for accountability in public education, schools are seeking avenues to
improve instruction and student learning. One such path is professional learning. Schools invest
large amounts of time, energy, and money in their teaching staffs for the purpose of impacting
student achievement through improved classroom instruction. Large studies have been performed
in recent years to determine those principles that most affect teacher practice and impact student
achievement (Desimone, Porter, Garet, Yoon, Birman , 2002; Garet, Porter, Desimone, Birman,
Yoon, 2001; Yoon, Duncan, Lee, Scarloss, and Shapley, 2007). Unfortunately, much of the
professional development that teachers experience does not result in a change in teacher... Show

Limitations of Study
Expected limitations of this study are as follows:
1. The length of the survey may impact the responsiveness and accuracy of teachers in the sample.
The survey contains at least 50 items and is projected to take 15 to 20 minutes to complete which
may impact responses. As a result, the sample size may be smaller than projected.
2. Research has shown that teachers take a lackluster if not negative attitude toward professional
development. As a result, respondents may not take the survey seriously if not presented in a
proper context.
3. A lack of understanding of common understanding and agreement on what is effective
professional learning may result in inaccurate responses from teachers. Teachers will respond based
on their experiences and opinions rather than accurate understanding.
4. The sample for this study will be taken from schools that are members of

The Yellow Wallpaper Essay
One additional reading of the color of the wallpaper is that it promotes a counter intuitive reading.
The color yellow is normally associated with happiness and light; in this case, it is linked to a
malignant source that drives the narrator insane. Because the reader expects the color yellow to be
benevolent and is disappointed, the reader is also forced to question everything else in the novel,
especially those things that seem to be obvious. The yellowwallpaper itself is presented as a symbol
of creativity. With its endless swirls and ornaments, the wallpaper does not follow any set pattern; in
fact, it is this lack of organization and structure that preoccupies the narrator to such an extent. In

Far more than any other type of illness, mental disorders are subject to negative judgements and
stigmatization. Many patients not only have to cope with the often devastating effects of their
illness, but also suffer from social exclusion and prejudices.Mental disorders are classified as a
psychological condition marked primarily by sufficient disorganization of personality, mind, and
emotions to seriously impair the normal psychological and often social functioning of the
individual. People with mental health problems say that the social stigma attached to mental ill
health and the discrimination they experience can make their difficulties worse and make it harder
to recover. It s no secret that mental health is routinely treated differently than physical health, but
sometimes it s difficult to understand how or why

Female Love In Araby And John Updike s A P
The character in any story is one of the most important elements, as the conflict and plot progress
because of the characters. It is normally their appearances, mannerisms, and ideologies that the
reader is using to understand the context and dynamics of the story. James Joyce s Araby and John
Updike s A P present stories about an adolescent boyhaving a sexual attractiontowards a female.
The female love interests are presented through a spiritual light and given this holy image from
the protagonists. Due to the boy s ages being toward the younger side, their exposure to sexual
love is quite limited, so when they first experience this type of love, it is so unfamiliar that they
prioritize and idolize it, giving the impression of the girls being these holy beings that they worship
in a spiritual way. In James Joyces Araby the narrator has a tortured on his neighbour, Mangan s
sister. The young boy frequently watches her from his window, occasionally walks by her, and
does not exchange many words when he passes by. One evening the narrator has a conversation
with Mangan s sister about the bazaar Araby, and how she cannot traverse there due to prior
commitments. The narrator is sexually attracted to her as seen by his description of her
appearance. He states, The light from the lamp opposite our door caught the white curve of her
neck, lit up her hair that rested there and. Falling, lit up the hand upon the railing. It fell over one
side of her dress and caught the white

Cystic Therapy
Gene therapy aims to replace faulty genes with properly functioning copies to cure disease. This
report will discuss gene therapy, the underlying biology of cystic fibrosis (CF), current treatments
and the use of gene therapy to cure CF. The advantages and disadvantages of gene therapy will be
analysed and a decision will be made on its effectiveness as a treatment for CF.
Gene therapy is an experimental treatment, which is used to replace mutated, improperly
functioning genes with regular DNA. There are several gene therapy methods, most of which
involve using a vector to transport the corrected gene into targeted cells. Retro viruses, adeno
viruses, adeno ascosciated viruses and liposomes are commonly used as vectors. Naked DNA
(DNA without ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without a vector, mutated cells cannot be targeted, which means the treatment would be
ineffective. Since the 1990 s, scientists have experimented with the use of viral vectors, such
retroviruses, adeno viruses and adeno asscociated viruses. Viruses contain a circular piece of
DNA known as the plasmid. During gene therapy, the segment of DNA responsible for viral
spread is removed. The correct copy of the mutated gene is then inserted into the virus. The virus
is then inhaled, swallowed or injected depending on the location of the target cells. (in the case of
CF, the vector is inhaled). Retroviruses are viruses that contains RNA instead of DNA.
Retroviruses can only infect dividing cells and the viral RNA needs to be reverse transcribed to
DNA, so that gene can be replicated for mitosis (this is done using enzymes). Unfortunately,
retroviruses have been found to implant genes into random parts of the genome. This means that
the introduced gene can disrupt an existing, functional gene. Between 1999 and 2006, reasearchers
performed gene therapy on 5 children with a genetic immune defficiency, using retroviruses as
vectors. By 2006, all 5 of these children had developed leukemia as a result of the vector
implanting into a random part of the genome. Adenoviruses have also been used as vectors,
however, they do not integrate into the genome permaneatly and are likely to trigger an immune
response. In 1999,

Periphylla Periphylla: Helmet Jellyfish
The helmet jellyfish, scientifically known as periphylla periphylla has many interesting features
and many unique facts about it. When just looking at it, it resembles many jellyfish, the bell is
different from a regular jellyfish though. It has a life cycle that contains fourteen stages that
explain how it is formed and how it develops. Not much is known about this creature when it
comes to reproduction and its behavior. Just like many other species, food, temperature, and other
geographical features affect where it reproduces, lives and where it stays most of its lifetime. Even
though a lot of things are unknown about this species, we do know that it has a fairly long lifespan
considering all the deadly things they encounter. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are fairly big, on average about twenty centimeters long and up to thirty five centimeters in
diameter. Tentacles help when they need to move around in the water. These species of jellyfish
are usually found in the South Georgia Islands and Antarctica but are not found in areas like the
Arctic Ocean. Even though they tend to stay in these regions, where they move depends on the
movement of their prey and how conditions are in their current location. When they are forced to
move they use their tentacles and also their coronal groove which gives them the flexibility to
move around faster by the pulsations of the deltoid muscles in the bell (Sornes, 2008). These
jellyfish tend to stay deep in the water and avoid the surface unless they are trying to mate. They
also move towards the surface when it s night time because the sun is not a danger to them. The
sun is a major threat to how they live and could kill them if they get direct sunlight for a long
period of

The Diary Of War, National Pride And The National...
Claire Anderson
History
8 October, 2013
The Preface to War; National Pride in the Balkans Walter S. Zapotoczny, an author and historian,
once said, Each of the great powers believed they had something to gain from war, fostering the
national pride and the national positioning that made World War Iinevitable. This is true, as
imperialism and militarism were a large part of national pride. Austria Hungary, for example,
wanted Serbia. The German military was expanding rapidly. With each argument countries got into,
hatred became stronger. Eventually, the European tensions snapped and everything toppled into
terrible war. World War I was inevitable due to each of the great powers being imperialistic,
militaristic, and prepared for war.
During the early 1900 s, the European great powers believed they all had something to gain from
expanding. Land in Africa was being claimed by countries such as France and Great Britain. A
main goal for all the countries of Europe was growing. Austria and Hungary joined together into a
dual monarchy in 1867. This country annexed Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1908. Germany was
annoyed at not having as much space in Africa, which is imperialistic because it is territorial.
Imperialism was popular during the time. The great powers believed they could become better
through imperialism. In this case, imperialism is showing national pride because the expansion of a
country makes it more powerful. Power is something citizens of a country can be

  • 5. Active Denial System Paper Active Denial System The Active Denial System (ADS) is an electromagnetic, directed energy, non lethal weapon designed by the US military and built by Raytheon (Cumming, 2010). The ADS works by producing 95GHz electromagnetic radiation that is focused in a beam at a target (Wikipedia, 2014). These 3.2mm electromagnetic waves work on the same principal as a microwave oven. The waves excite water and fat molecules instantly heating them through dielectric heating (Wikipedia, 2014). Due to the extremely high frequency of these waves, the energy from them is absorbed in within the first 0.4mm of skin, meaning they do not affect vital organs, blood vessels or nerve endings (Wikipedia, 2014). Due to these attributes, and the results of numerous studies, in which the worst injury inflicted by the ADS were pea sized blisters, with a 1 in 1000 chance of this... In a situation with low humidity, the ADS has an effective operating range in excess of 500m (Danyalov, 2014). The rain, fog, snow and sleet all reduce the range and effectiveness of the beam by absorbing the radiation it produces. The dust storm reduces the range of the ADS, not by absorbing the radiation, but by deflecting and dispersing it. Both of these situations mean that the full power of the ray is no longer reaching its intended target, which may moderate the ADS s sensation to warm and comfortable (Cumming, 2010). Along with aspects of the environment blocking the device, it can be countered by very reflective material such as aluminium foil (Cumming, 2010). The United States holds an incredible edge in military capabilities over any other nation and the US benefits from the largest economy in the world. In a world where there is one single superpower, why is that superpower unable to force feed policy through coercion or payoff? Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Joseph Nye offers an alternative theory for the construct of State power. He created a system in which State power is broken into two parts; hard power and soft power. Hard power consists of the traditional, tangible aspects of power namely, military and economic power. Soft power is the key distinguishing dynamic of Nye s work from other theories. Soft power consists of all other facets of power, such as ideology, foreign policy, culture, stability, prosperity, and membership in international organizations (Bound to Lead 130 and Paradox xi, 8). The modern world is becoming more interconnected and interdependent with one another, hence depending less on sticks and carrots and more on soft power. The missing link within perceived State power is the role morality plays in actual power. This study will show that soft power is implicitly, and at rare times explicitly, founded in moral values. The definition of morality or what constitutes proper morals is a difficult task and may be explained differently 100 times if one were to ask 100 people. Generally speaking, being moral is conforming to the standards of good or right. This vague definition is open for many interpretations. Northern European musicians constantly searched for new and exotic sound worlds, different to the Nineteenth Century German Romanticism from which they were trying to move away. It was when Debussy visited the 1889 Paris Universal Exposition that he became intrigued with the exhibit from Java, (an island in the Malay Archipelago). The Java exhibit was a model village which presented many aspects of the communal village life whereby Gamelanplayed one of the main roles in the religious and social areas. Javanese Gamelan, consisting of a collection of instruments, mostly metallic with gong or bell like sounds caused enthusiasm and excitement among the European musicians, due to its well developed, powerful and beautiful style that had complete uniqueness and broke all rules of what music could and should be. Epigenetic mechanisms control the generation of different phenotypes from the same genotype. Thus differentiation is basically a process driven by changes in gene activity during development, often in response to transient factors or environmental stimuli. To keep the specific characteristics of cell types, tissue‐specific geneexpression patterns must be transmitted stably from one cell to the daughter cells, also in the absence of the early‐acting determination factors. This heritability of patterns of active and inactive genes is enabled by mechanisms of epigenetic cellular memory that ensures mitotic and sometimes also meiotic transmission of expression patterns [1].... Proteins of the Polycomb group (PcG) and of the trithorax group (trxG) are involved in the regulation of key developmental genes, such as homeotic genes. PcG proteins maintain silent states of gene expression, while the trxG of genes counteracts silencing with a chromatin opening function. In Drosophila, PcG and trxG complexes are recruited to specific DNA elements named as PcG and trxG response elements (PREs and TREs, respectively). Once recruited, these complexes seem to be able to establish silent or open chromatin states that can be inherited through multiple cell divisions even after decay of the primary silencing or activating signal ... This perhaps represents the first difficulty in incorporating such skills into accounting education; no one can agree on what precisely critical thinking skills encompass (Young and Warren 2011). Pascarella and Terezini (2005, p.155) summarise these skills to include: The general intellectual outcomes of postsecondary education that permit individuals the process and utilize new information; communicate effectively; reason objectively and draw objective conclusions from various types of data; evaluate new ideas and techniques efп¬Ѓciently; become more objective about beliefs, attitudes, and values; evaluate arguments and claims critically; and make reasonable decisions in the face of imperfect information. Education plays an imperative role in developing these skills. Young and Warren (2011), in their review of the education literature, stated that a number of cross sectional research studies have shown that a student s critical thinking ability can improve while at college. While Parcarella and Terenzini (2005) approximate that a student can improve their critical thinking skills by 63% by the end of their sophomore year. Causes, Symptoms, And Treatments Graves disease Causes, symptoms, and treatments by Mary Smith Graves disease is an immune system disorder that results in the overproduction of hormones (hyperthyroidism). Many disorders may be a result in hyperthyroidism, Graves disease is the most common cause. Thyroid hormones affect many different body systems, signs and symptoms associated with Graves disease can wide ranging and can influence your over all wellbeing. Graves disease may affect anyone, it s more common among women and before the age of 40. Primary treatment goals are to inhibit the overproduction of thyroid hormones and lesson the severity of the symptoms. There are numerous signs that allude to the presence of Graves disease, most notably is a large protruding bulb associated with the thyroid gland (goiter), changes in the menstrual cycle, bulging eyes (Graves ophthalmopathy), and less common is Graves demopathy, or thick, red skin usually found on the shins or tops of the feet. One of the most telling symptoms of Graves disease presents in about 30% of those diagnosed with the condition is Graves ophthalmopathy. Graves ophthalmopathy refers to bulging of the eyes, exophthalmos, a gritty sensation in the eyes, pressure and/or pain in the eyes, puffy or retracted eye lids, reddened or inflamed eyes, sensitivity to light, double vision, or outright vision loss. The Meaning Of Life By Julian Baggini When people invest an abundant amount of time in a task, whether it be trivial and mundane like finishing the laundry, or important and time consuming like attaining a degree, they tend to want to be validated that they are spending their time in a meaningful way. Philosophers are often sought out for their wisdom and to answer the deep and mind bending questions common people don t intensely ponder. Though what the meaning of lifeis seems to be unique to each individual, when a philosopher asserts they have revelated the meaning of life, it is imperative to investigate their claims. In an article entitled Revealed the meaning of life, philosopher Julian Baggini claims he knows the answer to one of life s most burning question, what is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To illustrate his line of thinking relating to these concepts, he compares the pondering of life to a Celine Dion concert. He explains Compare that to a more mundane question, such as why on earth you are sitting in the front row waiting for a Celine Dion concert to begin. One answer is because you bought a ticket, took a train and then your seat. That explains why you re there in a backward looking way. Another answer is that you re there because you want to hear Dion sing, which explains your presence in a forward looking (though somewhat baffling) way. The moral of this extended yet amusing metaphor is that the answer one is searching for dictates the approach they implement to find said answer. Both methods, contemplating the future and the past, are still majorly flawed, as neither looking forwards nor backwards truly give the answer to the meaning of a person s life or why they are on earth. While looking at one s ancestry and roots reveals where a person is originated from and the route that lead them to where they are today, it does not necessarily reveal the reasoning as to why they are in their current reality. Baggini explains this by stating, It is perhaps surprising how often it is assumed that a look back to our origins will lead us to the meaning of life . . . if we take a long, cold look back to our origins, we just find ape like ancestors and an evolutionary trail that leads back to the big bang. The concept of romanticism (early 19th century) emphasizes on the inner emotions and imagination of the individual while at the same time expressing deep interest in nature and the supernatural. During the romantic movement, one major contribution was the birth of Gothic fiction. One author who strived under this literary genre was Mary Shelley. Then recommend best practice for changing management. This presentation begins by analyzing the report by Mondal (2011) called Entrepreneurship in U.S. Auto Industry: Ford Stay Ahead. Henry Fordis the founder of Ford Motor Company. As a successful entrepreneur Ford s practice included technological innovationfor cost cutting measure, introduction of new products, expansion of new market and created new economic organization. Using Schumpeter s five factor model we will analyze entrepreneurship around innovation. Ford s Technologyin Change Management In Ford s initial years, innovation technology was used to remodel the most popular model cars; this increase profit for the business. It used to take Ford 14 hours to build the T model car; he reduced labor cost using a time known as mass production method. This method reduced the assembly time to1 hr. 33 minutes. This innovation technology reduced labor cost for the new Model T (Mondal, 2011). Entrepreneur take risk: by creating new products, adapts to new production process, create new market, and create new technology and economic for an organization. That brings us to choose certain paths, even if the underlying truth of these paths hasn t been recognized. The things that makes us ticks can be thought of mistakes. Through his book, Predictably Irrational, these mistakes are both explained and contextualized as human error. Something that all of us do on a daily basis without any recognition. And even when we recognize our misconceptions, we still have a tendency to do it again. While reading Predictably Irrational, I came across several personal . Things like, procrastinationand overvaluing materialistic things are two of many misconceptions I have been aberrant to. We, humans, have a tendency to be aberrant, walking out of reasonable paths and into irrational ones. Ariely thoroughly explains how emotions dictate behaviors and decisions we make. Us procrastinators, acknowledge that we do infact procrastinate. The real problem is how we act, knowing we have tendencies to procrastinate. Emotions rush through our veins and speaks louder then our consciousness. As Ariely explained, we are in the cool state when we are making promises such as, spending less or exercising more with a diet. (1)(2) (10) Concentration: The collision theory states that for any reaction to take place the two reactant molecule must collide first. The rate of a reaction depends on the frequency of the collision between the particles. More successful frequent collisions occur in a given time, with sufficient activation energy to break the chemical bond. Therefore the rate of reaction will increase. Truly, most of what they were asking for was needed in Germany, but the violence that followed their movement made it difficult for changes to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Standards Based Professional Learning Because of the demand for accountability in public education, schools are seeking avenues to improve instruction and student learning. One such path is professional learning. Schools invest large amounts of time, energy, and money in their teaching staffs for the purpose of impacting student achievement through improved classroom instruction. Large studies have been performed in recent years to determine those principles that most affect teacher practice and impact student achievement (Desimone, Porter, Garet, Yoon, Birman , 2002; Garet, Porter, Desimone, Birman, Yoon, 2001; Yoon, Duncan, Lee, Scarloss, and Shapley, 2007). What is the relationship between the type of professional learning activities (workshops, professional learning committees, coaching, action research, etc.) utilized by schools that provide standards based professional learning and teacher satisfaction with professional learning in their school? Limitations of Study Expected limitations of this study are as follows: 1. The length of the survey may impact the responsiveness and accuracy of teachers in the sample. The survey contains at least 50 items and is projected to take 15 to 20 minutes to complete which may impact responses. As a result, the sample size may be smaller than projected. 2. Research has shown that teachers take a lackluster if not negative attitude toward professional development. As a result, respondents may not take the survey seriously if not presented in a proper context. 3. A lack of understanding of common understanding and agreement on what is effective professional learning may result in inaccurate responses from teachers. Teachers will respond based on their experiences and opinions rather than accurate understanding. 4. The sample for this study will be taken from schools that are members of ... • 46. The Yellow Wallpaper Essay One additional reading of the color of the wallpaper is that it promotes a counter intuitive reading. The color yellow is normally associated with happiness and light; in this case, it is linked to a malignant source that drives the narrator insane. Because the reader expects the color yellow to be benevolent and is disappointed, the reader is also forced to question everything else in the novel, especially those things that seem to be obvious. The yellowwallpaper itself is presented as a symbol of creativity. With its endless swirls and ornaments, the wallpaper does not follow any set pattern; in fact, it is this lack of organization and structure that preoccupies the narrator to such an extent. Many patients not only have to cope with the often devastating effects of their illness, but also suffer from social exclusion and prejudices.Mental disorders are classified as a psychological condition marked primarily by sufficient disorganization of personality, mind, and emotions to seriously impair the normal psychological and often social functioning of the individual. People with mental health problems say that the social stigma attached to mental ill health and the discrimination they experience can make their difficulties worse and make it harder to recover. • 47. Female Love In Araby And John Updike s A P The character in any story is one of the most important elements, as the conflict and plot progress because of the characters. It is normally their appearances, mannerisms, and ideologies that the reader is using to understand the context and dynamics of the story. James Joyce s Araby and John Updike s A P present stories about an adolescent boyhaving a sexual attractiontowards a female. The female love interests are presented through a spiritual light and given this holy image from the protagonists. Due to the boy s ages being toward the younger side, their exposure to sexual love is quite limited, so when they first experience this type of love, it is so unfamiliar that they prioritize and idolize it, giving the impression of the girls being these holy beings that they worship in a spiritual way. In James Joyces Araby the narrator has a tortured on his neighbour, Mangan s sister. The young boy frequently watches her from his window, occasionally walks by her, and does not exchange many words when he passes by. One evening the narrator has a conversation with Mangan s sister about the bazaar Araby, and how she cannot traverse there due to prior commitments. The narrator is sexually attracted to her as seen by his description of her appearance. He states, The light from the lamp opposite our door caught the white curve of her neck, lit up her hair that rested there and. Falling, lit up the hand upon the railing. It fell over one side of her dress and caught the white ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Cystic Therapy Gene therapy aims to replace faulty genes with properly functioning copies to cure disease. This report will discuss gene therapy, the underlying biology of cystic fibrosis (CF), current treatments and the use of gene therapy to cure CF. The advantages and disadvantages of gene therapy will be analysed and a decision will be made on its effectiveness as a treatment for CF. Gene therapy is an experimental treatment, which is used to replace mutated, improperly functioning genes with regular DNA. There are several gene therapy methods, most of which involve using a vector to transport the corrected gene into targeted cells. Retro viruses, adeno viruses, adeno ascosciated viruses and liposomes are commonly used as vectors. Naked DNA (DNA without ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Without a vector, mutated cells cannot be targeted, which means the treatment would be ineffective. Since the 1990 s, scientists have experimented with the use of viral vectors, such retroviruses, adeno viruses and adeno asscociated viruses. Viruses contain a circular piece of DNA known as the plasmid. During gene therapy, the segment of DNA responsible for viral spread is removed. The correct copy of the mutated gene is then inserted into the virus. The virus is then inhaled, swallowed or injected depending on the location of the target cells. (in the case of CF, the vector is inhaled). Retroviruses are viruses that contains RNA instead of DNA. Retroviruses can only infect dividing cells and the viral RNA needs to be reverse transcribed to DNA, so that gene can be replicated for mitosis (this is done using enzymes). Unfortunately, retroviruses have been found to implant genes into random parts of the genome. This means that the introduced gene can disrupt an existing, functional gene. Between 1999 and 2006, reasearchers performed gene therapy on 5 children with a genetic immune defficiency, using retroviruses as vectors. By 2006, all 5 of these children had developed leukemia as a result of the vector implanting into a random part of the genome. Adenoviruses have also been used as vectors, however, they do not integrate into the genome permaneatly and are likely to trigger an immune response. In 1999, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Helmet Jellyfish Research Paper Kiersten Swarts Mrs. Walser Bio II 8/30/15 Periphylla Periphylla: Helmet Jellyfish The helmet jellyfish, scientifically known as periphylla periphylla has many interesting features and many unique facts about it. When just looking at it, it resembles many jellyfish, the bell is different from a regular jellyfish though. It has a life cycle that contains fourteen stages that explain how it is formed and how it develops. Not much is known about this creature when it comes to reproduction and its behavior. Just like many other species, food, temperature, and other geographical features affect where it reproduces, lives and where it stays most of its lifetime. Even though a lot of things are unknown about this species, we do know that it has a fairly long lifespan considering all the deadly things they encounter. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They are fairly big, on average about twenty centimeters long and up to thirty five centimeters in diameter. Tentacles help when they need to move around in the water. These species of jellyfish are usually found in the South Georgia Islands and Antarctica but are not found in areas like the Arctic Ocean. Even though they tend to stay in these regions, where they move depends on the movement of their prey and how conditions are in their current location. When they are forced to move they use their tentacles and also their coronal groove which gives them the flexibility to move around faster by the pulsations of the deltoid muscles in the bell (Sornes, 2008). These jellyfish tend to stay deep in the water and avoid the surface unless they are trying to mate. They also move towards the surface when it s night time because the sun is not a danger to them. The sun is a major threat to how they live and could kill them if they get direct sunlight for a long period of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. The Diary Of War, National Pride And The National... Claire Anderson History 8 October, 2013 The Preface to War; National Pride in the Balkans Walter S. Zapotoczny, an author and historian, once said, Each of the great powers believed they had something to gain from war, fostering the national pride and the national positioning that made World War Iinevitable. This is true, as imperialism and militarism were a large part of national pride. Austria Hungary, for example, wanted Serbia. The German military was expanding rapidly. With each argument countries got into, hatred became stronger. Eventually, the European tensions snapped and everything toppled into terrible war. World War I was inevitable due to each of the great powers being imperialistic, militaristic, and prepared for war. During the early 1900 s, the European great powers believed they all had something to gain from expanding. Land in Africa was being claimed by countries such as France and Great Britain. A main goal for all the countries of Europe was growing. Austria and Hungary joined together into a dual monarchy in 1867. This country annexed Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1908. Germany was annoyed at not having as much space in Africa, which is imperialistic because it is territorial. Imperialism was popular during the time. The great powers believed they could become better through imperialism. In this case, imperialism is showing national pride because the expansion of a country makes it more powerful. Power is something citizens of a country can be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
