Descriptive Essay Beach
Writing an essay on the topic of a beach may seem deceptively simple at first glance. After all,
what could be easier than describing the sun-kissed sands, the rhythmic crashing of waves, and
the salty breeze that caresses your skin? However, as any writer knows, the challenge lies not in
the topic itself, but in capturing its essence in words that transport the reader to that idyllic
shoreline.
The difficulty of crafting a compelling descriptive essay about the beach lies in striking a
delicate balance between vivid imagery and engaging narration. It requires the writer to paint a
picture so vivid that the reader can almost feel the warmth of the sun on their face and hear the
laughter of children playing in the surf. Achieving this level of immersion requires not only a
mastery of language but also a keen understanding of the nuances of sensory perception.
Moreover, the challenge is compounded by the need to avoid clichГ©s and tired tropes that can
rob the essay of its freshness and originality. In a topic as timeless as the beach, it's all too easy
to fall back on tired descriptions and worn-out metaphors. To truly stand out, the writer must
strive to find new angles of observation, fresh perspectives that breathe life into even the most
familiar scenes.
In essence, writing a descriptive essay about the beach is akin to capturing a fleeting moment of
beauty in a bottle, preserving it for others to savor and enjoy. It requires patience, skill, and
above all, a deep appreciation for the natural world and all its wonders.

Why Does Free Will Exist
Traditionally defined as man s ability to voluntarily and consciously choose for
themselves, free will is often a central characteristic of man that separates him from
nature. Philosophers and theologians have touted this ability to choose as a
foundation on which society s conception of morals, guilt, and justice rest, and,
consequently, have debated whether it truly exists or whether it is simply an illusion
of a predetermined outcome. Recently, with the advent of science, the discussions of
free will now include the field of biology. Modern studies on the human brainhave
provided convincing evidence for biological determinism, the notion that the biology
of each person predetermines how he or she will act. For example, the 1999 tests of
Benjamin Libet and his subsequent papers on free will challenge its conventional
definition, suggesting that actions begin with an unconscious initiation, that they
have the ability to be consciously vetoed, and... Show more content on

tested the effects of stimulating different sites in the brain and whether actions and
could be separated from will. Consisting of subjects undergoing brain surgery while
awake, Movement Intention after Parietal Cortex Stimulation in Humans illustrates
how electrical signals regarding movements arise in one part of the brain; whereas,
those signals pertaining to intent or will, i.e. the conscious desire to act arise in
another. Desmurget et al. activated the parietal cortex, creating in the subject the
perception of movement. However, no action was performed in actuality (Desmurget
et al., 2009). Similarly, Desmurget et al. then stimulated the premotor cortex, causing
the subjects to act, yet the subjects were unaware of these actions, thinking they had
not moved (Desmurget et al., 2009). This ability to separate perception or intent of
movement and actual motion underlines a disconnect between will and

Subject: Zara s US Expansion
Date: 2001
Background
Following is an analysis of Zara s current expansion strategy into the US retail market
and recommendations on future tactics to ensure a successful expansion. Zara s
expansion strategy thus far has been quite successful; however, with every new store
opened, its ability to maintain an efficient centralized production system and a strong,
unique culture will be diminished.
Analysis
Let us first consider Zara s main competitive advantage before analyzing how current
and potential future strategies will affect this competitive advantage. Zara currently
employs a design on demand retail model allowing the company to bring the latest
fashion trends from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

It is recommended that Zara maintain full ownership of new stores rather than
choosing to franchise. This will ensure the continuation of the strong Zara culture.
Zara s combination of cutting edge fashions and culture lends itself well to a
European style, fashion conscious consumer. While this type of consumer can be
found in New York, this is not representative of the entire US market. Retailers in
small towns and urban sprawls rely more on a shopping mall atmosphere. Adapting
that strategy would undermine Zara s image. It is therefore recommended that Zara
target only major metropolitan areas which would likely have higher concentrations
of fashion minded individuals.
Zara currently employs no advertising at all. As word of mouth is very important in
retail, this low key approach is in line with Zara s culture. A well structured
marketing campaign could, however, spread the word of Zara s expansion across the
US, while maintaining their mysterious boutique type image. Billboards or print ads
with a teaser approach could accomplish this goal. Advertising will become important
to increase Zara s profile during expansion. Due to its comfortable profit margins, a
modest advertising budget could be afforded.
Zara s US expansion will rely heavily upon continued emphasis on strong IT

Stereotypes In Social Psychology Paper
Aside from arising from mental shortcuts, it has also been proposed that stereotypes
are a result of group conflict (Sherif, 1966). Regularly, individuals behave in a way
that is expected of them in order to uphold the impressions others have of them. Thus,
individuals act accordingly and embody the stereotypewhich is projected upon them
(Baumeister Bushman). The degree to which we rely on stereotypes when
establishing judgements of others has been widely investigated in the field of social
psychology. Frequently, the harmful consequences of relying on stereotypes is noted
with the potential of this tendency to lead to prejudiceand discrimination.
Furthermore, the variation in the significance of stereotypes has been explored to

Furthermore, these processes are potentially subject to bias due to the assimilative
effects of existing knowledge on information processing (Macrae, Stangor
Hewstone, 1996). It is essential to comprehend these concepts before delving into
the importance of stereotypes when forming impressions of others. In the initial
stage of developing schemas, they allow the individual to ignore what is perceived
to be unimportant or unnecessary details of a situation, thus reducing the complexity
of the information (Macrae, Stangor Hewstone, 1996). Indeed, schemas guide
behaviour and allow a platform for individuals to make mental shortcuts and
damaging stereotypes, they can also simplify life and are useful in every day
situations (Macrae, Stangor Hewstone, 1996). For example, if one had an existing
stereotype that guns are dangerous and hastily decided to move to the other side of
the street after noticing a man with a gun this would be an extremely useful and
possibly life saving use of a stereotype. However, whether stereotypes are considered
to be beneficial or unconstructive they are undeniably important when forming
impressions of other

OSMOTIC DEHYDRATION OF STARFRUIT
Averrhoa carambola
INTRODUCTION
Star fruit, botanically called as Carambola, is a star shaped tropical fruit with sweet
and sour flavor. Malayan peninsula native Carambola is cultivated in many parts of
Southeast Asia, Pacific Islands and China for its fruits. Eventhough, abundant and
plentiful, carambola is yet to gain popularity, especially in the western world.
Scientific name: Averrhoa carambola. The genus Averrhoa includes two well known
sorrels (Oxalidaceae) family of fruiting trees, carambola.
Star fruit is a small, bushy evergreen tree that grows very well under hot, humid,
tropical conditions. The plant bears small lilac colored, bell shaped flowers in
clusters which subsequently develop into oblong shaped fruits with characteristic
five angled edges (sides or ribs) that appear like a starfish in cross sections. Both
sweet and sour varieties begin to yield under cultivable orchards, and ready for
harvesting when the plants ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It usually has five prominent longitudinal ridges, but in rare instances it can have
as few as four or as any as eight. In cross section, it resembles a star. Thin, smooth,
and waxy skin turns from light to dark yellow when ripe. The translucent flesh is
light yellow to yellow in color. The fruit will have 10 to 12 flat light brown seeds
about a width of 6 to 13 mm (0.25 to 0.5 in) and it is enclosed in gelatinous aril.
Once removed from the fruit, they became inactive within a few days.[2]
Carambola fruit features light green to yellow with attractive ,smooth, waxy surface
and weighs about 70 130g. Inside, it s crispy, and juicy pulp can either be mildly
sweet or extremely sour depending upon the type and amount of oxalic acid
concentration. In some seed varieties, 2 5 tiny edible seeds found at the center of
each angled cavity.

General Dwight Eisenhower as a Critical Thinker
Strategic decisions made by General Dwight Eisenhower during WWII were
significant and give excellent examples of four components of Steve Gerras Critical
Thinking model. Generals during World War II faced daily innumerable difficult
and grave decisions. Critical decisions made during WWII did not have the depth
and speed of today s modern communications infrastructure. Eisenhower quoted,
Making decisions is of the essence in leadership. 1 During World War II, while in
command of the Mediterranean theater, Eisenhower made the strategic decision of
making the commitment to radiate confidence no matter how dire the circumstances
or how pessimistic he might actually feel. He wrote, My mannerisms and speech in
public would always reflect the cheerful certainty of victory that any pessimism and
discouragement that I might ever feel would be reserved for my pillow. 2 Critical
thinking according to Professor Steve Gerras is deliberate. Gerras Critical Thinking
Model components are as follows: clarify the concern, point of view, assumptions,
inferences, evaluation of information, and implications. The model is not meant to be
sequential or linear, however always starts with clarify the concern . Evaluation of
Eisenhower s decision to radiate confidence no matter how dire the circumstances in

Ganglioside Research Paper
Gangliosides (GM) are glycosphingolipids with complex structures that are found
within cellular membranes. They are most abundant in the nervous system with
many important functions such as serving as the structural components of
biomembranes, mediators in signal transductions, and playing a role in cell to cell
recognition. While the presence of gangliosides is vital to cellular function,
ganglisoide degradation is necessary to prevent a buildup of lipids. The excess
presence of gangliosides in the cell ultimately causes apoptosis. There are several
different classifications of gangliosides, however, a buildup of lipids resulting from
improper GM2 ganglioside catabolism results from the lack of enzyme ОІ
hexosaminidase A. The lysosomal... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Errors involving ganglioside metabolism heavily impact the central nervous system
due to the presence of a higher concentration of gangliosides. TSD is specifically
caused by a mutation in the HEXA gene encoding the О± subunit of ОІ
hexosaminidase A. An individual with TSD is able to transport the GM2 ganglioside
from the cellular membrane to the lysosome for degradation, but is unable to process
it further since the О± subunit of ОІ hexosaminidase A cannot cleave the terminal N
acetylgalactosamine group. Without this cleavage, the lysosome is unable to digest
the GM2
Essay on The Genetic Defect Albinism
The Genetic Defect Albinism In the past, albinos were usually treated with fear or
awe. They were sometimes killed at birth. Albino births were common enough in
some groups not to cause any excitement. For example, among the San Blas Indians
of Panama, one in approximately 130 births is an albino. In the mid nineteenth
century, albinos were exhibited in sideshows. Whole families were displayed at
times and were described as a unique race of might people. They were said to live
underground and to come out only at night when the light was dim and would not
hurt their eyes. Albinismis a genetic defect if the integumentary system. Albinism
occurs when the body fails to produce melanin. Melanin forms in a special cell called

An alteration of the gene for dopachrome tautomerase does not produce albinism.
Three other genes make proteins that are also involved in melanin pigment
formation and albinism, but the exact role of these proteins remains unknown.
These genes are the P gene on chromosome 15, the Hermansky Pudlak syndrome
gene on chromosome 10, and the ocular albinism gene on the X chromosome. The
gene carrying the defect that produces albinism is recessive, which means that both
parents must carry this recessive gene in order to produce a child with the condition.
When both parents carry the gene (and neither has albinism), there is a one in four
chance with each pregnancy that their child will have albinism. The inheritance
pattern of ocular albinism is alittle different. This condition is X linked, meaning
that the recessive gene for ocular albinism is located on the X chromosome. X
linked ocular albinism appears just about only in males who inherit the condition
from their mothers. Albinism is a recessive inherited defect in melanin metabolism
in which pigment is absent from the hair, skin, and eyes (oculocutaneous albinism)
or just from the eyes (ocular Albinism). Albinos tend to be children of parents who
were first cousins. For a long time, the term albinism referred only to people who
had white hair, white skin, and blue eyes. Individuals who had OCA and pigmented
hair and eyes were identified, particularly in the African and
What Americanism Mean To Me
Americanism. According to the dictionary it means a characteristic feature of
English as used in the United States. To me it means a lot more than that. It means
three main things to me like freedom, all of our needs are. When I hear the word
freedom, I think about freedom of speech and the freedom of choice. In America,
we have the freedom of speech. We can say what we want to say anytime we want
to say it. The power of speech is often abused. People in America often do not realize
how lucky they are to. Another thing that I think Americanism means is freedom of
choice. From the time children are born and until they go off on their own, the parent
or guardian tries to choose what is best for the child. Children choose their own
destiny while
Leonardo Da Vinci And The World Of Engineering
Engineering Drawings Military vehicles and weapons, flying objects, like planes and
drones, robots, the study and understanding of kinesiology, and our knowledge of
how water flows... This may seem like a random list of things that have no
significance to each other at all, but they all in fact have something in common. The
common thread that links these things is Leonardo Da Vinci. Leonardo has impacted
the world of engineering in so many different ways, it is almost impossible to count
them all. He is considered to be the father of numerous innovations and designs and
some of his original works are still being referenced today. This essay will discuss
Leonardo and how his inventions were not only masterpieces in his time, but also
how they provided a foundation for future engineers to build from. It all started in the
little town of Vinci, just twenty two miles outside of Florence, Italy (DaVinci Tech).
Leonardo da Vinci was born on April fifteenth, 1452, to a family that was not very
wealthy; so he could not afford any form of education (Leonardo da Vinci). Despite
this, Leonardo s designs were still way beyond his time. Leonardo lived in Vinci for
some time, but eventually moved to Milan, a military based city at the time, where he
drew some of his first designs. Milan s environment stimulated his military
inventions. Today, military vehicles and items are very commonly seen around the
world, and a lot of them originated from Da Vinci s designs. For example, Leonardo s
The Impact Of Globalization On Ireland

and Ireland. I have chosen Ireland for this assignment because Ireland is the
country I was born in and have spent the past 17 years of my life in and I feel that
globalization has impacted Ireland significantly and this can be seen in figure 1

The negative impact this has had on Ireland is that most local businesses in Ireland
has been closed as they lose their customers and relations with companies that help
give the local businesses the financial support they need, because of the local
businesses not being able to compete with FDIs advanced services and goods and
FDIs abilities to lower their prices.
In an optimistic view, Ireland have been sorting out this negative impact by
encouraging people to set up their business and by giving them the financial support
they may need.

As seen in picture 1, Ireland have set up an organisation called Enterprise Ireland and
according to enterprise Ireland, Enterprise Ireland is the government organisation

Customer Service And An Organization
Many companies continuously fail in customer service satisfaction for many
reasons. As service failures are inevitable, it is important for companies, especially
small businesses, to capitalize on learning the importance of reducing service failure.
Just as the seed is the core of the fruit, customer service is the core of an organization;
its meaning is the primary function for organizations to retain businessand discover
new ventures. Customer service is the primary source of business to customer
communication and in many ways, handles companyissues via phone, email or on
site. Without customer service, it would be extremely difficult for organizations to
operate or survive effectively.
Companies that provide exceptional customer service skills are more likely to have
repeat business from customers. As stated in the article, Customer Service and Its
Importance In the Clinical Laboratory, providing excellent service consists of the
following components: listen, understand, respect the need for the request, respond,
ask if there is anything else you can do, always remain friendly, courteous, and
professional (Anderson, 2008). People that have one or more positive experiences
with a company will share their experience about that company with others, which
will increase business to that company. This is a way of promotion for the
organization. More companies, especially small investments, should focus on
providing great service to its customers for promotion and increase in
Genetic And Epigenetic Influences On Autism Spectrum...
Genetic and epigenetic influences in autism spectrum disorders: A role for the methyl
CpG binding protein in Rett syndrome.
The genetics of neurodevelopmental disorders (NDD) rarely display a Mendelian
mode of inheritance, and can result from a single rare gene mutation, more common
variations in single nucleotide polymorphisms, or often a combination of these two
factors in conjunction with environmental influences [1]. In contrast, epigenetic
mechanisms are heritable changes in gene expression which do not change the DNA
sequence [1]. Epigenetic changes to the genome may predispose the development of
NDD when combined with the aforementioned genetic risk factors [1].
Autism Spectrum Disorders
Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) are a class of NDD affecting mostly males, which
are largely idiopathic and display extensive variation in terms of phenotype, severity
and degree of heritability [2]. It is postulated that the pathology of ASD is the result
of a complex interaction between genetic predisposition and environmental risk
factors, which disturb the developing brain [1]. ASD commonly involve deficits in
social interaction and cognition, language, emotional learning and the presence of
repetitive, stereotyped behaviours [1, 3, 4]. The brains of autistic children display
reductions in long distance connectivity, abnormally regulated apoptosis and cell
division, and increased inflammation [4].Additional studies have demonstrated
gliosis, abnormal neuronal migration and
Iphone And The App Industry
Introduction:
Let me start off with the research and the information what I have learned about this
case study.
We see how rapidly the market is advancing and the app industry should deliver more
innovative results in terms of apps to satisfy their customers by implementing
methods to safeguard them from the intruders who hurts their personal information
through these applications and those who wants to grow fiscally. People in this
generation expect high quality standards and high valued brands and look out for
companies like Apple who provide all these.

Truth be told, we met Adobe s founders when they were in their well known.

I would definitely agree that they should conduct extensive screening of apps before
they sell on app store with a specific end goal to make sure that the applications

The Battle of Thermopylae began in 480 BC and was a product of the Greeks
attempt help defend the Ionians from the Persians. This irritated the Persian
Emperor, Xerxes, because he thought of Greece as a small kingdom that had no
place revolting against the Persian Empire. The Athenians sympathized with the
Ionians because the Persians had also tried to invade Greece on multiple occasions.
The Athenians provided feeble help to the Ionians and in retaliation the Persians
struck at athens (23B). Xerxes was known to be irrational with his temper, and may
have thought of his invasion as retaliation for the fact that his father, Darius the
Great, was defeated at the Battle of Marathon against the Greeks. His temper was so

Demophilus was the general who came to Leonidas aid by leading eight hundred
Thebans and Thespians alongside the Spartans (A). On the opposing side, Xerxes
gained a lot of power in his home empire, Persia, by spreading propaganda claiming
that he was a God. He constructed a plan to invade Greece after the Ionian Revolt
and the Battle of Marathon. He was power crazed and angry, and although these
personality traits led him to gain power in the short term, they ultimately led to the
fall of the Persian Empire (A). Not many people know about Ephialtes, but he is in
part responsible for the Greek s loss. On the second day of the battle, Ephialtes
reported to the Persians that there was previously unknown flanking path that would
lead to a vulnerable access point behind the Spartan lines. This would ultimately
lead to the destruction of the Greek warriors (A). In addition to good leadership the
greeks developed and employed successful battle tactics, which they were able to
adapt to the topography, thus allowing them to sustain afight despite being grossly
outnumbered (C). The most important tactic was the Hoplite Phalax, which was a
wall of Greek infantry men with shields and long spears. This was effective for the
Greeks because the advancing Persians had to travel through a very narrow path

Butterflies In class Essay
Question: How do the Mirabal sisters use courage in the novel?
The Courage of the Butterflies
If the average person wanted to stand up to adversity, would they have the courage to
do it? In the historical fiction novel, In the Time of the Butterflies by Julia Alvarez,
the four Mirabal sisters (DedГ©, Minerva, MarГa, and Patria) stand up to adversity
and join a revolution against the tyrannical Trujillo regime in the Dominican Republic
. In their own time, all of the sisters gain the courage to join the revolution and
attempt to remove the Trujillo regime from power. The Mirabal sisters commitment
to their cause raises the questions: What is courage, and which sister best
exemplifies the qualities of courage and why? Courage is an individual who defends
their beliefs and does not fail because of fear. Minerva best exemplifies courage
through her selfless composure, resilience, and defiance to the Trujillo regime, and
her inspiration to others.
Minerva is extremely courageous against Trujillo and shows defiance to him
personally. During the novel, Minerva has a few direct confrontations with Trujillo.
In these confrontations, she never backs down to this powerful dictator, but shows
great courage and wit. When Minerva is asked to dance with Trujillo, she does not
shy away from speaking her mind and letting her opinions be known. When Trujillo
makes an advance at her during the dance, she shows great

How Long Can War Be Avoided
Although many historians, politicians, and even teachers would like us to be
optimistic upon the subject of peace, there is no denying the inevitability of war.
War and death are one in the same, they both can be attempted to be fixed or cured,
but in the end war is as inevitable as dying. Although Obama s speech that brought
hope for peace could potentially prevent a wartoday, it cannot prevent what is in
store for the future. For example following the first World War America pursued a
number of strategies with the goal of preventing war including the Neutrality Acts.
However, despite America s best efforts to stay out of england s affairs and war the
United Statesfully participated in the Second World War not even thirty years later.

Conflict creates strong impulses such as fear and hostility, but due to the
disapproval of society, many people have quickly learned to not acknowledge them
at all, not even to themselves, when these impulses are involved in a conflict, the
person is anxious, but does not know why. They are then less able to bring rational
thinking to bear on the problem which in extreme cases can and have lead to war.
We frequently experience disagreements with others that are left unresolved or
dealt with incorrectly. When in these disagreements we feel we must win the
argument at all cost that is when we see the break of warfare, both at a personal
level and a global level. Once we abandon the idea of resolving conflict, the
inevitably, sooner or later, ignites into something much worse, into battle.Obama s
speech in Hiroshima may create long lasting peace with that country, however,
warfare is engagement in or the activities involved in war or conflict , and it is hard
to imagine the prevention of warfare without conflict when dealing with radical
groups such as ISIS. Although it s nice to be optimistic and believe in long lasting
peace, the reality is war is
The Pros And Cons Of Plagiarism
In a world surrounded by phones, computers, and other technological devices,
information is always just a click away. School work has become more clicking
and typing, and less reading and writing. When kids get an assignment to read a
book and do a book report on it, laziness kicks in, and they go to the internet to look
up a summary. Then what they do is copy and paste other people s writings into their
paper. What a majority of kids do not know is that this is considered plagiarismand it
is illegal. Plagiarism is something that is very common in today s world and although
it is common and a great deal of people do it, it is still illegal and wrong
Plagiarism, defined by the Merriam Webster dictionary is to commit literary theft
or to present as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source
. What this means in simpler words is that plagiarism stealing someone else s
words or ideas and using them as if they were your own. It is considered plagiarism
even if you forget to put quotation marks around the information you are using.
While reading the article ВЁWhat is Plagiarism?ВЁ the reader learns that although
it may not seem like a big deal to copy what someone else said online or in a book, it
is actually breaking the U.S. law. For example, if a music composer wanted to write
a new piece of music they would research and spend time trying to think about what
their piece is going to consist of. If the composer were to take words from another

Fluoride Essay
Poison in the Water
For over 60 years, Americans have been inundated with propaganda proclaiming the
benefits of artificially fluoridating the public s drinking water to prevent tooth decay.
I do not use the term propaganda lightly. In fact the father of modern propaganda,
nephew of Sigmund Freud, Edward Bernays was brought in to sell spiking America s
public water supply with fluoride (Pilger). This was critical to protect the American
Aluminum Company (ALCOA), the world s largest aluminum producer, from
litigation from their workers who were exposed to toxic levels of sodium fluoride.
Fluoride in the public water supply is a detriment to the health of Americans and
provides no positive benefits while presenting great risk. Fluoridated water is poison,
it is proven to decrease IQ, and it is medicating the public with an FDA classified
tranquilizer without the informed consent of the citizens.
Fluoride was first used as a tranquilizer on prisoners prior to World War II. Fluoride
s disturbing history begins in 1924 when the German company I.G. Farben began
receiving loans from wealthy and famous American families, including Henry Ford,
J.D. Rockefeller, and Max Warburg to name a few. Together, they were the world s
largest producers of toxic sodium fluoride as a byproduct of aluminum production
through the ALCOA. The ever inventive Germans had heaps of sodium fluoride
laying around from war time aluminum production, and I.G. Farben decided to find a

Department Of Transportation Case Study
Department of Transportation Case Study
`Managing and running a public agency is never a simple task. In addition to running
efficiently and effectively, public organizations are often expected to be responsive to
citizens. However, occasionally there are issues with the structure of an organization
and its decision making processes that are problematic. As exemplified by the case
study involving Steve and the Department of Transportation (DOT), such issues are
present and are therefore making its responsiveness to the public particularly poor.
First, there is an extreme lack of cooperation between departments. Secondly, Steve
makes some excellent suggestions, however, rethink his decision making process.
Third, In order to become a more responsive department, first the DOT must rearrange
its organizational structure. Lastly, by adopting a team approach, the DOT has the
potential to become a more effective organization.
The root cause of the lack of success in the organization is the lack of cooperation
between the departments. The commission can take countless steps in order to
improve upon public responsiveness, however these efforts will be futile if the
departments are not properly cooperating with each other. The division of labor
within the DOT is at the heart of this issue. Many times, a response to a citizen s
question requires information from more than one agency or bureau, and getting that
information takes time and effort (Lee, p. 204). The DOT is broken
Irony In Charles Lamb s Essays Of Elia
In Charles Lamb s Essays of Elia, one of the main literary devices he uses is irony,
which ranges from being extremely subtle to straightforward. This is significant
because the anagram for the pseudonym Elia was a lie . Therefore, this often
changed the meaning of the poem since its context was from a lie, which you could
often tell through the use of ironyand other literary devices within his essays. One
of his works that demonstrated this was his essay, Dream Children: A Reverie.
Throughout the essay, Lamb points to obvious themes of death, loneliness, and
melancholy. However, when examined closer, Lamb s use of irony shifts the
meaning of the poem to his sense of loss and regret. This underlying theme is
illustrated through the relationship of irony in Elia s dreamt children, Elia s dreamt
past life, and the actual life of Elia and Charles Lamb. In Dream Children: A
Reverie, Elia s fictitious children s dialogue play an important function in the
meaning of the essay. In the beginning of the essay, it says CHILDREN love to
listen to stories about their elders, when they were children; to stretch their
imagination to the conception of a traditionary great uncle or grandame, whom they
never saw (Lamb). Although, this is true in the beginning, the children begin
crying when Elia talks about the death of their uncle John L , pleading to tell them
some stories about their pretty, dead mother, which is the opposite of what Elia had
intended at the beginning (Lamb). This example of situational irony begins to mark
a drastic shift in the essay, considering that this was not a natural characteristic of a
normal child. This idea was reinforced by the daughter, Alice, gradually growing
fainter to my view, receding, and still receding till nothing at last were seen in the
uttermost distance, which is representative of his past hopes and dreams vanishing
(Lamb). Afterwards, the children without speech, strangely impressed upon me the
effects of speech: We are not of Alice, nor of thee, nor are we children at all. The
Children of Alice call Bartrum father (Lamb). The fact that the children let him know
this without speech, creates a shift to the realities of Elia s real life, while also
pointing
Social Norms In Deviance
For this assignment, I was given the simple task of violating one societal norm, or in
layman terms committing deviance. Deviance is defined as The violation of norms
that society agrees upon. The activity that I will be showcasing is cross dressing.
Although not completely against current societal norms, due to the progression of
genderroles. Cross dressingis still an outlier and far from the usual appropriate dress
for my gender . I will be going over the operations I noticed when; buying makeup,
being in cross dress, and how other reacted to me.
The main reason why I was cross dressing was for a cosplay for Fan Expo convention

bunny costume let alone if someone was cross dressing so I won t be explaining
much about my experiences there, what I will be doing is talking about other
related topics such as ; Cross dressing in a public area away on my way to the
convention, Buying makeup, wigs and other beauty products as a male, the act of
touching up makeup in the washroom and the how other people reacted to it.
Mostly for this, I broke usual gendered norms; in the store, when buying makeup and
talking to store associates about the best types and tones for my skin, as well as
touching up makeup inside the male washroom, normal social encounters with others
when talking and interacting, and how others reacted to me.

Leon Trotsky
Leon Trotsky was a man to be reckoned with. Trotsky was a Marxist revolutionary
who played a leading role in the 1905 Revolution, in the eventual Communist
Revolution of October 1917, and in the Russian Civil War. Without Trotsky s impact
in the Russian Revolution, the Bolsheviks would have been defeated. His own
beliefs on Marxism combined with his intellect made Trotsky a target and influential
leader in the Soviets. From his studies on Marxism, he created Trotskyism, a Marxist
ideology based on the theory of permanent revolution. Also, his organization building
skills and revolutionary military ideas made him a great military leader. However,
Leon Trotsky was also prone to arrogance, fatal over confidence, dismissiveness and
sarcasm, qualities that contributed to his demise. His downfall was caused by Joseph
Stalin as well. Joseph Stalin set out to destroy the old party leadership and take total
control. Leon Trotsky was one of the most influential Russian leaders, because of his
political and military leadership and revolutionary theories.
Leon Trotsky helped make the Soviet army a revolutionary force with his military
ideas and organization building skills. As commissar of war, Trotsky established a
system of discipline and hierarchical control, while also emphatically rejecting
attempts to enthrone new military orthodoxies based on partisan

Ponzi Scheme
A Ponzi Scheme is an investment fraud that involves the payment of alleged returns
to existing investors from funds contributed by new investors. Ponzi scheme
organizers often seek new investors by showing potential in their company; they
entice investors to invest funds in opportunities claimed to generate high returns with
little or no risk. In many Ponzi schemes, the fraudsters focus on attracting new
money to make promised payments to earlier stage investors and to use for personal
expenses, instead of engaging in any legal investment activity. The system is destined
to collapse because the earnings are less than the payments to investors. Ponzi
schemes tend to collapse when it becomes difficult to recruit new investors or when a

Second, the scheme will begin to collapse under its own weight as the investment
slows and the promoter starts having problems paying the promised returns, the
higher the return on investment the greater is the risk of the Ponzi scheme
collapsing. Such crises often trigger panics, as more people start asking for their
money. Third, the external market forces, such as a sharp decline in the economy,
may cause many investors to withdraw part or all of their funds; not necessarily
due to loss of confidence in the investment, but simply due to the market meltdown.
The SEC investigates and prosecutes many Ponzi scheme cases each year both to
prevent new victims from being harmed and to maximize the recovery of assets to
investors. During 2009, the SEC filed 60 enforcement actions involving Ponzi
schemes or Ponzi like payments. Two recent popular Ponzi schemes are, first,
Robert Allen Stanford and his companies with allegedly conducting an $8 billion
Ponzi scheme. And second, Bernard L. Madoff, who orchestrated a multi billion
dollar Ponzi scheme that swindled money from thousands of investors. Robert Allen
Stanford was a prominent financier, philanthropist, and sponsor of professional
sports who has been charged with fraud. In early 2009, Stanford became the subject
of several fraud investigations, and on February 17, 2009, was charged by the U.S.

It has captured different eras throughout history. The Art form of painting has been
used to capture moments of triumph, and distress. Paintings of early settlement in the

Screwtape Letters Analysis
The Screwtape Letters
The Screwtape Letters is a thought provoking book that details how easily humans
are ensnared by the Enemy. The enticement of the world seems so appealing to
human, however, C.S. Lewis makes it very clear that the enticement in the world is
only temporary, and is ultimately a tactic of the Enemy. Often times, temptation
creeps into our minds unexpectedly, but temptation s effects are deadly. The Enemy
will stop at nothing to tempt us, but God s Word says that He will not tempt you
beyond what you can bear, and when temptation comes, God will provide a way out
(1 Corinthians 10:13).
Throughout the Screwtape Letters, the character Screwtape writes letters to his
nephew, Wormwood. The reader is propelled into the life of the Patient; and
Screwtape makes it clear to Wormwood that he must stop at nothing to get the Patient
from focusing on his relationship with God, and this becomes the motivation and
obsession behind every note Screwtape writes. However, Screwtape does not only tell

Screwtape also tries to use lust as a distraction in the Patient s life. Being that the
Patient is young and unmarried, Screwtape is to highlight lusts to keep his burning
desire to be for women, and not for the One who gave him life. This approach was
very clever, but believers must realize that the weapons we fight with are not the
weapons of this world. Not only that, but Screwtape encourages Wormwood to not let
the Patient s Christianity shine through. That being said, the Patient would become
self conscious about his relationship with God, thus getting him to focus on self. This
tactic, however, is nothing new. Satan tries nothing new, but it is important for us to
know how to resist the devil, and that is through prayer, and the reading of God s

Refugees And Refugee Populations
Targeted Populations Assignment
Given the current political climate in the United States, there has been an increased
need for social workers who have experience in working with individuals and
families who are considered to be immigrants or refugees. In the past decade,
international conflicts, social oppression and civil wars have generated 16 million
refugees worldwide, with approximately 500,000 refugees being resettled in the
United States (Kira and Tummala Narra, 2014, p. 449). According to current
research, 82% of the increase in population between the years of 2005 to 2050 will
be attributed to immigrants arriving in this time (Chang Muy and Congress, 2015, p.
71).
As part of the ethical responsibilities of a social worker, advocacy on the behalf of
clients is something that needs to be emphasized when working with immigrant and
refugee populations. There have been a significant amount of legislative changes that
have been made on both the federal and state levels within the past ten years, such as
the recent ninety day ban of individuals coming from 7 predominantly Muslim
nations (Healy, 2017, p. 247). A significant amount of the work that is done by social
workers with refugee individuals and families takes place either in temporary settings
with limited resources following armed conflicts and ethnic cleansing events
(Soliman and Gillespie, 2011, p. 789).
When working with individuals and families who are considered to be refugees, it is

An entrepreneur offers unique products at lower prices than those of the competitors.
In developing the core strategies, an entrepreneur should evaluate the markets and
analyze their strengths and weaknesses. He or she should establish the opportunities
and threats in the markets in order to strategically place his or her business. After
carefully choosing the strategy, the entrepreneur introduces a global program
whereby he or she introduces the homogeneous product and adjusts it into the local
market. He or she should balance the local needs and the overall global strategies. In
executing a good global program, an entrepreneur should be flexible and standard.
Moreover, the entrepreneur should consider the local markets cultures so as to know
which products fit the local markets well. Additionally, he or she should also ensure
that the products provided are of great quality. Consequently, managers of an
entrepreneurial venture should apply and regulate a global effort by relating well and
facilitating proper flow of information. Communication should be efficient and
effective among the organizational structures. The managers can also hold meetings
and conferences to discuss the various issues facing the organization (Morschett,
Schramm Klein, Zentes, 2015).Combining the internal strengths of a business with
the plans for expansion into the markets provides a strong strategy for an
entrepreneurial venture. Therefore, a firm should evaluate its internal strengths by
The Categories Of Oral Tradition In The Umudike
Community
Oral tradition presupposes a body of largely unwritten prose, poetry and drama
(Kur; 2007). Some of the oral tradition include myths, stories, legends, folk tales
proverbs, riddles, etc. (Okoye, 2002: 93). Categories of poetry as oral tradition
consist of elegies, religious and lyric pieces, and work of chants, topical and political
songs, panegyrics, children s songs and rhymes. On the other hand satire, ritualism,
masquerades, could be seen as drama aspect of oral tradition.
Basic characteristics of oral tradition are that much of it is in oral form, and
transmitted from one generation to another. In other not to lose some of the forms,
some scholars and authors have started to document them and put them in written
forms. Performers celebrate genre of oral literature, they are artists of special sort.
The poet, the dramatist, skillful narrator of folktales, myths or legends qualifies as

Research Paper On Tourette Syndrome
Tourette Syndrome is a common neurological disorder that affects many Americans
every year. It is characterized by sudden motor tics that can be involuntary and
repetitive. These involuntary motor tics can have degrees of intensity ranging from
simple to complex. Brief and repetitive movements such as, eye blinking, facial
grimacing, other eye movements characterize simple motor tics. Simple motor tics
usually involve a limited number of muscle groups and can include simple
vocalizations such as, repetitive sniffing, throat clearing, or grunting sounds. Unlike
simple motor tics, complex motor tics are distinct and coordinated patterns of
movement. Facial grimacing, sniffing or touching objects, hopping, jumping,

Life In Milan Kundera s The Unbearable Lightness Of Being
In The Unbearable Lightness of Being , Milan Kundera informs readers that
without the ability to compare our lives to others, we cannot find meaning in our
lives, but remain between life s lightness and heaviness. He does this by
illustrating the relationships between four characters: Tomas, Tereza, Sabina, and
Franz. The novel begins in the year 1968 with Tomas, who is a brilliant surgeon
from Prague and a perpetual bachelor. In a small town cafe, he fortuitously met
Tereza, who was his waitress; to Tereza, the moment was magical because one of
her favorite compositions by Beethoven was playing on the radio and that he
enjoyed literature. Tereza evidently followed Tomas to Prague with her life packed
within a suitcase and she intended to offer her life to him. The two started living
with each other, but Tomas was incapable of terminating his bachelor lifestyle full
of mistresses. He tried to hide his infidelity, but Tereza found a letter from one of
his mistresses, Sabina. She wrote to Tomas saying, I want to make love to you in
my studio. It will be like a stage surrounded by people. The audience won t be
allowed up close, but they won t be able to take their eyes off us. (Pg. 16). Tomas
confessed and told her that these sexual acts were separate from his love for her.
This information marred Tereza s mind; she starting having horrendous nightmares
and began contemplating suicide. He then married her, to relieve her of her
distress. Yet he still kept his mistresses. Eventually Sabina and Tereza become
close friends, but Tereza s jealousy still remained the same. Sabina, Tereza, and
Tomas fled to Switzerland due to the Soviet Union inhabiting Czechoslovakia.
Tereza left behind her career as a photographer, became unemployed, and had to sit
home alone as Tomas continued his affairs. She then began to believe, when the
strong were too weak to hurt the weak, the weak have to be strong enough to leave.
(Pg. 75). Then, she returned back to Prague. Tomas was enjoying his liberation for a
few days, but he gave up and left for Prague. This evidently meant that the couple
gave up their freedom because there was no chance that the couple would be allowed
to leave again due to the Communist regime. In
Dancer in the Dark Film Review Essay
If I was to reduce my description of Dancer in the dark to one word, it would be
daring. Its immediate effect on me was stronger than that of maybe any other film I
ve ever seen. It shook me, stirred my emotions, made me think and reflect, it
disturbed me in the most positive sense of the word and it still does. Its radical
make, boldness and consistency exceeds all expectations and probably everything
that s come before. This is the perfect example of a director s vision
uncompromisingly realized.
To be fair, I have to say that Dancer in the darkis one of those films that people either
deeply admire and love or hate and find ridiculous. If you belong to the latter
category, nothing I write will make you rethink your opinion, due ... Show more

Selma, however, harbours a dark secret. She is afflicted with a hereditary blinding
disease that eats away at her sight as she grows older. She works horrendous hours
of every day and night to save up to pay for an operation that will give her son the
chance of a life free of blindness. Selma is saved from the crushing sadness of her
existence by music. Music she hears on the factory floor, the passing train, echoed
footfalls, the air shaft in the wall. Every time she hears or feels a beat she imagines
herself breaking into a spontaneous song and dance routine like she had seen so
many times in her childhood. Any rhythmic sound source is likely to elevate her to
the world of musicals. Sounds of her surroundings are the bass line to an
extravagant musical fantasy world, this not only allows her to break away from the
horrors of the situations she finds herself in, but also allows Von Trier to briefly
break away from the confines of his Dogma. As the movie progresses we get to
witness her life crumbling and falling apart around her.
There are many aspects about Dancer in the Dark that make it stand out so distinctly.
Relating to the songs, the first phrase that came to my mind after seeing the film was:
a musical for people who dislike musicals. The whole mood and depressing
atmosphere formed a contrast to what we think of when we hear musical. In addition,
the songs were not embedded realistically in the film (that s
Carpentry Was Very Good To Me For 12 Years
I enjoyed carpentry and it was very good to me for 12 years . This was a quote said
by the actor, Harrison Ford, as he was discussing how helpful the trade of carpentry
was for him. A carpenter is one who repairs and constructs frameworks and
structures. They install siding, kitchen cabinets, and they also drywall. The pieces
they build and repair are usually made from wood. Becoming a carpenter is a
perfect choice for someone who likes physical work, has excellent employment
opportunities, and a solid pay. A carpenter is always involved in physical work.
Carpentry requires the use of tools and machines, such as hammers, saws, and chisels.
Carpenters construct hospitals, houses, and other large projects. They are also
experts in scaffolding.

Monarch Butterfly Research Papers
The monarch butterfly is one of the most familiar species, and is considered
important because of its pollinating skills. This species is most recognizable for is
black, orange, and white wings. The monarch butterflies wings change colors from
orange to a deep red, from beginning to the end of migration. This butterfly
population has been decreasing over the last ten years, and are predicted to be
quasi extinct over the next 20 years. These butterflies keep warm by opening their
wings up to the sun. Males have a different appearance than the female butterflies
such as they are much bigger in size, and the black veins on their wings are narrower
than those of a female. The monarch butterfly has six legs, but only uses four. They

Essay On English Language Teaching
English Language Teaching Methods
Many countries in Asia like China, Japan, UAE, Sri Lanka, Singapore etc., adopted
English as a foreign language not as a second language. Because considering
English as a second language and as a Foreign Language is different in their view
point. They view that outside of the classroom, English is not that much useful. They
teach all the subjects in their mother tongue but in India if one is unable to speak in
English he becomes a tabooed person. Many Asian countries treat the pupil s age,
sex, race, attitude, intelligence and grasping power in teaching English. Indian
teachers neglect this aspect. For ex: a speaker from Hyderabad emphasizes more
vowels before many words because of the influence of Urdu. Straight Istraight. And a
Bihari pronounces sh as s because of the influence of Kharboli. Teachers don t take
into consideration of this aspect and mistreat students. So teachers have to choose the
methodology as suit their classroom and environment. If teacher takes all the factors
into consideration classroom becomes more meaningful. All the methods are not
meaningful when teacher choose them as per the needs of the classroom.
Methods of English Language Teaching ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sometimes more than one method is used to bring out the anticipated outcomes in the
language classroom where communication develops the key factor of teaching
learning process. Unless students learn to utilise the classroom method to express
thoughts and feelings outside into the real world situations, the learning cannot be
effective no matter whatever teaching method is applied in English as a Second
Language classroom. Teacher student role becomes the centre in bringing out the
maximum within the limited time in a
Questions On An Argument On The Existence Of A Prime...
Part 1: Clarifying an Argument
State the argument you find in Passage 1 in explicit premise and conclusion form.
PASSAGE 1:
(P1) Every event must have a cause.
(P2)An infinite series of events is inconceivable.
(P3)There must be a first cause.
(C1)The first cause must have at least been the originator of the universe.
(C2)The first cause is God.
PASSAGE 2: Nagel s Counterargument
(P1)Positing the existence of a first cause does not explain away the infinite
regression of events.
(P2)If God is self caused, then there are no limits to what can be self caused.
(P3)If everything must have a cause, so must God.
(C1) The existence of the world and the vast matrix of events that occur every day
do not necessitate the existence of a prime mover, or creator (or God). Part 2:
Clarifying an Objection to an Argument
State in your own words and as concisely as possible what you take Nagel s
objection in Passage 2 to mean. Your task is not only to explain Nagel s words but
also to show how they bear on the argument in Passage 1. What is it, exactly, about
the argument that Nagel is objecting to, which premise or inference does he reject?
I believe Nagel is saying that if every event must have a cause, the infinite chain of
events presumably necessitated by this logic in fact follows, assuming one s
acceptance of the mathematical concept of infinity. Ergo, there does not have to be a
God or even a first cause, as the cosmological argument

Descriptive Essay Beach. Answered descriptive essay on my first visit of beach - Brainly.in

  • 1. Descriptive Essay Beach Writing an essay on the topic of a beach may seem deceptively simple at first glance. After all, what could be easier than describing the sun-kissed sands, the rhythmic crashing of waves, and the salty breeze that caresses your skin? However, as any writer knows, the challenge lies not in the topic itself, but in capturing its essence in words that transport the reader to that idyllic shoreline. The difficulty of crafting a compelling descriptive essay about the beach lies in striking a delicate balance between vivid imagery and engaging narration. It requires the writer to paint a picture so vivid that the reader can almost feel the warmth of the sun on their face and hear the laughter of children playing in the surf. Achieving this level of immersion requires not only a mastery of language but also a keen understanding of the nuances of sensory perception. Moreover, the challenge is compounded by the need to avoid clichГ©s and tired tropes that can rob the essay of its freshness and originality. In a topic as timeless as the beach, it's all too easy to fall back on tired descriptions and worn-out metaphors. To truly stand out, the writer must strive to find new angles of observation, fresh perspectives that breathe life into even the most familiar scenes. In essence, writing a descriptive essay about the beach is akin to capturing a fleeting moment of beauty in a bottle, preserving it for others to savor and enjoy. It requires patience, skill, and above all, a deep appreciation for the natural world and all its wonders. Similar essays and much more can be ordered on HelpWriting.net. • 2. Why Does Free Will Exist Traditionally defined as man s ability to voluntarily and consciously choose for themselves, free will is often a central characteristic of man that separates him from nature. Philosophers and theologians have touted this ability to choose as a foundation on which society s conception of morals, guilt, and justice rest, and, consequently, have debated whether it truly exists or whether it is simply an illusion of a predetermined outcome. Recently, with the advent of science, the discussions of free will now include the field of biology. Modern studies on the human brainhave provided convincing evidence for biological determinism, the notion that the biology of each person predetermines how he or she will act. For example, the 1999 tests of Benjamin Libet and his subsequent papers on free will challenge its conventional definition, suggesting that actions begin with an unconscious initiation, that they have the ability to be consciously vetoed, and... Consisting of subjects undergoing brain surgery while awake, Movement Intention after Parietal Cortex Stimulation in Humans illustrates how electrical signals regarding movements arise in one part of the brain; whereas, those signals pertaining to intent or will, i.e. the conscious desire to act arise in another. Desmurget et al. activated the parietal cortex, creating in the subject the perception of movement. However, no action was performed in actuality (Desmurget et al., 2009). Similarly, Desmurget et al. then stimulated the premotor cortex, causing the subjects to act, yet the subjects were unaware of these actions, thinking they had not moved (Desmurget et al., 2009). This ability to separate perception or intent of movement and actual motion underlines a disconnect between will and

Zara Case Memo To: Zara Management From: Subject: Zara s US Expansion Date: 2001 Background Following is an analysis of Zara s current expansion strategy into the US retail market and recommendations on future tactics to ensure a successful expansion. Zara s expansion strategy thus far has been quite successful; however, with every new store opened, its ability to maintain an efficient centralized production system and a strong, unique culture will be diminished. Analysis Let us first consider Zara s main competitive advantage before analyzing how current and potential future strategies will affect this competitive advantage. Zara currently employs a design on demand retail model allowing the company to bring the latest fashion trends from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (See Appendix and above) It is recommended that Zara maintain full ownership of new stores rather than choosing to franchise. This will ensure the continuation of the strong Zara culture. Zara s combination of cutting edge fashions and culture lends itself well to a European style, fashion conscious consumer. While this type of consumer can be found in New York, this is not representative of the entire US market. Retailers in small towns and urban sprawls rely more on a shopping mall atmosphere. Adapting that strategy would undermine Zara s image. It is therefore recommended that Zara target only major metropolitan areas which would likely have higher concentrations of fashion minded individuals. Zara currently employs no advertising at all. As word of mouth is very important in retail, this low key approach is in line with Zara s culture. A well structured marketing campaign could, however, spread the word of Zara s expansion across the US, while maintaining their mysterious boutique type image. Billboards or print ads with a teaser approach could accomplish this goal. Advertising will become important to increase Zara s profile during expansion. Due to its comfortable profit margins, a modest advertising budget could be afforded. Zara s US expansion will rely heavily upon continued emphasis on strong IT procedures both
  • 4. Stereotypes In Social Psychology Paper Aside from arising from mental shortcuts, it has also been proposed that stereotypes are a result of group conflict (Sherif, 1966). Regularly, individuals behave in a way that is expected of them in order to uphold the impressions others have of them. Thus, individuals act accordingly and embody the stereotypewhich is projected upon them (Baumeister Bushman). The degree to which we rely on stereotypes when establishing judgements of others has been widely investigated in the field of social psychology. Frequently, the harmful consequences of relying on stereotypes is noted with the potential of this tendency to lead to prejudiceand discrimination. Furthermore, the variation in the significance of stereotypes has been explored to determine... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, these processes are potentially subject to bias due to the assimilative effects of existing knowledge on information processing (Macrae, Stangor Hewstone, 1996). It is essential to comprehend these concepts before delving into the importance of stereotypes when forming impressions of others. In the initial stage of developing schemas, they allow the individual to ignore what is perceived to be unimportant or unnecessary details of a situation, thus reducing the complexity of the information (Macrae, Stangor Hewstone, 1996). Indeed, schemas guide behaviour and allow a platform for individuals to make mental shortcuts and damaging stereotypes, they can also simplify life and are useful in every day situations (Macrae, Stangor Hewstone, 1996). For example, if one had an existing stereotype that guns are dangerous and hastily decided to move to the other side of the street after noticing a man with a gun this would be an extremely useful and possibly life saving use of a stereotype. However, whether stereotypes are considered to be beneficial or unconstructive they are undeniably important when forming impressions of other

Generals during World War II faced daily innumerable difficult and grave decisions. Critical decisions made during WWII did not have the depth and speed of today s modern communications infrastructure. Eisenhower quoted, Making decisions is of the essence in leadership. 1 During World War II, while in command of the Mediterranean theater, Eisenhower made the strategic decision of making the commitment to radiate confidence no matter how dire the circumstances or how pessimistic he might actually feel. He wrote, My mannerisms and speech in public would always reflect the cheerful certainty of victory that any pessimism and discouragement that I might ever feel would be reserved for my pillow. 2 Critical thinking according to Professor Steve Gerras is deliberate. • 11. Ganglioside Research Paper Gangliosides (GM) are glycosphingolipids with complex structures that are found within cellular membranes. They are most abundant in the nervous system with many important functions such as serving as the structural components of biomembranes, mediators in signal transductions, and playing a role in cell to cell recognition. While the presence of gangliosides is vital to cellular function, ganglisoide degradation is necessary to prevent a buildup of lipids. The excess presence of gangliosides in the cell ultimately causes apoptosis. There are several different classifications of gangliosides, however, a buildup of lipids resulting from improper GM2 ganglioside catabolism results from the lack of enzyme ОІ hexosaminidase A. An individual with TSD is able to transport the GM2 ganglioside from the cellular membrane to the lysosome for degradation, but is unable to process it further since the О± subunit of ОІ hexosaminidase A cannot cleave the terminal N acetylgalactosamine group. Without this cleavage, the lysosome is unable to digest the GM2

Albino births were common enough in some groups not to cause any excitement. For example, among the San Blas Indians of Panama, one in approximately 130 births is an albino. In the mid nineteenth century, albinos were exhibited in sideshows. Whole families were displayed at times and were described as a unique race of might people. An alteration of the gene for dopachrome tautomerase does not produce albinism. Three other genes make proteins that are also involved in melanin pigment formation and albinism, but the exact role of these proteins remains unknown. These genes are the P gene on chromosome 15, the Hermansky Pudlak syndrome gene on chromosome 10, and the ocular albinism gene on the X chromosome. The gene carrying the defect that produces albinism is recessive, which means that both parents must carry this recessive gene in order to produce a child with the condition. When both parents carry the gene (and neither has albinism), there is a one in four chance with each pregnancy that their child will have albinism. The inheritance pattern of ocular albinism is alittle different. This condition is X linked, meaning that the recessive gene for ocular albinism is located on the X chromosome. X linked ocular albinism appears just about only in males who inherit the condition from their mothers. Albinism is a recessive inherited defect in melanin metabolism in which pigment is absent from the hair, skin, and eyes (oculocutaneous albinism) or just from the eyes (ocular Albinism). Albinos tend to be children of parents who were first cousins. For a long time, the term albinism referred only to people who had white hair, white skin, and blue eyes. Individuals who had OCA and pigmented hair and eyes were identified, particularly in the African and
  • 13. What Americanism Mean To Me Americanism. According to the dictionary it means a characteristic feature of English as used in the United States. To me it means a lot more than that. It means three main things to me like freedom, all of our needs are. When I hear the word freedom, I think about freedom of speech and the freedom of choice. In America, we have the freedom of speech. We can say what we want to say anytime we want to say it. The power of speech is often abused. People in America often do not realize how lucky they are to. Another thing that I think Americanism means is freedom of choice. From the time children are born and until they go off on their own, the parent or guardian tries to choose what is best for the child. Children choose their own destiny while

Leonardo Da Vinci And The World Of Engineering Engineering Drawings Military vehicles and weapons, flying objects, like planes and drones, robots, the study and understanding of kinesiology, and our knowledge of how water flows... This may seem like a random list of things that have no significance to each other at all, but they all in fact have something in common. The common thread that links these things is Leonardo Da Vinci. Leonardo has impacted the world of engineering in so many different ways, it is almost impossible to count them all. He is considered to be the father of numerous innovations and designs and some of his original works are still being referenced today. This essay will discuss Leonardo and how his inventions were not only masterpieces in his time, but also how they provided a foundation for future engineers to build from. It all started in the little town of Vinci, just twenty two miles outside of Florence, Italy (DaVinci Tech). Leonardo da Vinci was born on April fifteenth, 1452, to a family that was not very wealthy; so he could not afford any form of education (Leonardo da Vinci). Despite this, Leonardo s designs were still way beyond his time. Leonardo lived in Vinci for some time, but eventually moved to Milan, a military based city at the time, where he drew some of his first designs. Milan s environment stimulated his military inventions. Today, military vehicles and items are very commonly seen around the world, and a lot of them originated from Da Vinci s designs. For example, Leonardo s

The genetics of neurodevelopmental disorders (NDD) rarely display a Mendelian mode of inheritance, and can result from a single rare gene mutation, more common variations in single nucleotide polymorphisms, or often a combination of these two factors in conjunction with environmental influences [1]. In contrast, epigenetic mechanisms are heritable changes in gene expression which do not change the DNA sequence [1]. Epigenetic changes to the genome may predispose the development of NDD when combined with the aforementioned genetic risk factors [1]. Autism Spectrum Disorders Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) are a class of NDD affecting mostly males, which are largely idiopathic and display extensive variation in terms of phenotype, severity and degree of heritability [2]. It is postulated that the pathology of ASD is the result of a complex interaction between genetic predisposition and environmental risk factors, which disturb the developing brain [1]. ASD commonly involve deficits in social interaction and cognition, language, emotional learning and the presence of repetitive, stereotyped behaviours [1, 3, 4]. The brains of autistic children display reductions in long distance connectivity, abnormally regulated apoptosis and cell division, and increased inflammation [4].Additional studies have demonstrated gliosis, abnormal neuronal migration and

  • 27. Fluoride Essay Poison in the Water For over 60 years, Americans have been inundated with propaganda proclaiming the benefits of artificially fluoridating the public s drinking water to prevent tooth decay. I do not use the term propaganda lightly. In fact the father of modern propaganda, nephew of Sigmund Freud, Edward Bernays was brought in to sell spiking America s public water supply with fluoride (Pilger). This was critical to protect the American Aluminum Company (ALCOA), the world s largest aluminum producer, from litigation from their workers who were exposed to toxic levels of sodium fluoride. Fluoride in the public water supply is a detriment to the health of Americans and provides no positive benefits while presenting great risk. Fluoridated water is poison, it is proven to decrease IQ, and it is medicating the public with an FDA classified tranquilizer without the informed consent of the citizens. Fluoride was first used as a tranquilizer on prisoners prior to World War II. Fluoride s disturbing history begins in 1924 when the German company I.G. Farben began receiving loans from wealthy and famous American families, including Henry Ford, J.D. Rockefeller, and Max Warburg to name a few. Together, they were the world s largest producers of toxic sodium fluoride as a byproduct of aluminum production through the ALCOA. The ever inventive Germans had heaps of sodium fluoride laying around from war time aluminum production, and I.G. Farben decided to find a use other

In addition to running efficiently and effectively, public organizations are often expected to be responsive to citizens. However, occasionally there are issues with the structure of an organization and its decision making processes that are problematic. As exemplified by the case study involving Steve and the Department of Transportation (DOT), such issues are present and are therefore making its responsiveness to the public particularly poor. First, there is an extreme lack of cooperation between departments. Secondly, Steve makes some excellent suggestions, however, rethink his decision making process. Third, In order to become a more responsive department, first the DOT must rearrange its organizational structure. Lastly, by adopting a team approach, the DOT has the potential to become a more effective organization. The root cause of the lack of success in the organization is the lack of cooperation between the departments. The commission can take countless steps in order to improve upon public responsiveness, however these efforts will be futile if the departments are not properly cooperating with each other. The division of labor within the DOT is at the heart of this issue. Many times, a response to a citizen s question requires information from more than one agency or bureau, and getting that information takes time and effort (Lee, p. 204). The DOT is broken
  • 29. Irony In Charles Lamb s Essays Of Elia In Charles Lamb s Essays of Elia, one of the main literary devices he uses is irony, which ranges from being extremely subtle to straightforward. This is significant because the anagram for the pseudonym Elia was a lie . Therefore, this often changed the meaning of the poem since its context was from a lie, which you could often tell through the use of ironyand other literary devices within his essays. One of his works that demonstrated this was his essay, Dream Children: A Reverie. Throughout the essay, Lamb points to obvious themes of death, loneliness, and melancholy. However, when examined closer, Lamb s use of irony shifts the meaning of the poem to his sense of loss and regret. This underlying theme is illustrated through the relationship of irony in Elia s dreamt children, Elia s dreamt past life, and the actual life of Elia and Charles Lamb. In Dream Children: A Reverie, Elia s fictitious children s dialogue play an important function in the meaning of the essay. In the beginning of the essay, it says CHILDREN love to listen to stories about their elders, when they were children; to stretch their imagination to the conception of a traditionary great uncle or grandame, whom they never saw (Lamb). Although, this is true in the beginning, the children begin crying when Elia talks about the death of their uncle John L , pleading to tell them some stories about their pretty, dead mother, which is the opposite of what Elia had intended at the beginning (Lamb). This example of situational irony begins to mark a drastic shift in the essay, considering that this was not a natural characteristic of a normal child. This idea was reinforced by the daughter, Alice, gradually growing fainter to my view, receding, and still receding till nothing at last were seen in the uttermost distance, which is representative of his past hopes and dreams vanishing (Lamb). Afterwards, the children without speech, strangely impressed upon me the effects of speech: We are not of Alice, nor of thee, nor are we children at all. The Children of Alice call Bartrum father (Lamb). The fact that the children let him know this without speech, creates a shift to the realities of Elia s real life, while also pointing

In many Ponzi schemes, the fraudsters focus on attracting new money to make promised payments to earlier stage investors and to use for personal expenses, instead of engaging in any legal investment activity. In the past decade, international conflicts, social oppression and civil wars have generated 16 million refugees worldwide, with approximately 500,000 refugees being resettled in the United States (Kira and Tummala Narra, 2014, p. 449). According to current research, 82% of the increase in population between the years of 2005 to 2050 will be attributed to immigrants arriving in this time (Chang Muy and Congress, 2015, p. 71). Life In Milan Kundera s The Unbearable Lightness Of Being In The Unbearable Lightness of Being , Milan Kundera informs readers that without the ability to compare our lives to others, we cannot find meaning in our lives, but remain between life s lightness and heaviness. He does this by illustrating the relationships between four characters: Tomas, Tereza, Sabina, and Franz. The novel begins in the year 1968 with Tomas, who is a brilliant surgeon from Prague and a perpetual bachelor. In a small town cafe, he fortuitously met Tereza, who was his waitress; to Tereza, the moment was magical because one of her favorite compositions by Beethoven was playing on the radio and that he enjoyed literature. Tereza evidently followed Tomas to Prague with her life packed within a suitcase and she intended to offer her life to him. The two started living with each other, but Tomas was incapable of terminating his bachelor lifestyle full of mistresses. He tried to hide his infidelity, but Tereza found a letter from one of his mistresses, Sabina. She wrote to Tomas saying, I want to make love to you in my studio. It will be like a stage surrounded by people. The audience won t be allowed up close, but they won t be able to take their eyes off us. (Pg. 16). Tomas confessed and told her that these sexual acts were separate from his love for her. This information marred Tereza s mind; she starting having horrendous nightmares and began contemplating suicide. He then married her, to relieve her of her distress. Yet he still kept his mistresses. Eventually Sabina and Tereza become close friends, but Tereza s jealousy still remained the same. Sabina, Tereza, and Tomas fled to Switzerland due to the Soviet Union inhabiting Czechoslovakia. Tereza left behind her career as a photographer, became unemployed, and had to sit home alone as Tomas continued his affairs. She then began to believe, when the strong were too weak to hurt the weak, the weak have to be strong enough to leave. (Pg. 75). Then, she returned back to Prague. Tomas was enjoying his liberation for a few days, but he gave up and left for Prague. This evidently meant that the couple gave up their freedom because there was no chance that the couple would be allowed to leave again due to the Communist regime. In
  • 43. Dancer in the Dark Film Review Essay If I was to reduce my description of Dancer in the dark to one word, it would be daring. Its immediate effect on me was stronger than that of maybe any other film I ve ever seen. It shook me, stirred my emotions, made me think and reflect, it disturbed me in the most positive sense of the word and it still does. Its radical make, boldness and consistency exceeds all expectations and probably everything that s come before. This is the perfect example of a director s vision uncompromisingly realized. To be fair, I have to say that Dancer in the darkis one of those films that people either deeply admire and love or hate and find ridiculous. If you belong to the latter category, nothing I write will make you rethink your opinion, due ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Selma, however, harbours a dark secret. She is afflicted with a hereditary blinding disease that eats away at her sight as she grows older. She works horrendous hours of every day and night to save up to pay for an operation that will give her son the chance of a life free of blindness. Selma is saved from the crushing sadness of her existence by music. Music she hears on the factory floor, the passing train, echoed footfalls, the air shaft in the wall. Every time she hears or feels a beat she imagines herself breaking into a spontaneous song and dance routine like she had seen so many times in her childhood. Any rhythmic sound source is likely to elevate her to the world of musicals. Sounds of her surroundings are the bass line to an extravagant musical fantasy world, this not only allows her to break away from the horrors of the situations she finds herself in, but also allows Von Trier to briefly break away from the confines of his Dogma. As the movie progresses we get to witness her life crumbling and falling apart around her. There are many aspects about Dancer in the Dark that make it stand out so distinctly. Relating to the songs, the first phrase that came to my mind after seeing the film was: a musical for people who dislike musicals. The whole mood and depressing atmosphere formed a contrast to what we think of when we hear musical. In addition, the songs were not embedded realistically in the film (that s

Essay On English Language Teaching English Language Teaching Methods Many countries in Asia like China, Japan, UAE, Sri Lanka, Singapore etc., adopted English as a foreign language not as a second language. Because considering English as a second language and as a Foreign Language is different in their view point. They view that outside of the classroom, English is not that much useful. They teach all the subjects in their mother tongue but in India if one is unable to speak in English he becomes a tabooed person. Many Asian countries treat the pupil s age, sex, race, attitude, intelligence and grasping power in teaching English. Indian teachers neglect this aspect. For ex: a speaker from Hyderabad emphasizes more vowels before many words because of the influence of Urdu. Straight Istraight. And a Bihari pronounces sh as s because of the influence of Kharboli. Teachers don t take into consideration of this aspect and mistreat students. So teachers have to choose the methodology as suit their classroom and environment. If teacher takes all the factors into consideration classroom becomes more meaningful. All the methods are not meaningful when teacher choose them as per the needs of the classroom. • 48. Questions On An Argument On The Existence Of A Prime... Part 1: Clarifying an Argument State the argument you find in Passage 1 in explicit premise and conclusion form. PASSAGE 1: (P1) Every event must have a cause. (P2)An infinite series of events is inconceivable. (P3)There must be a first cause. (C1)The first cause must have at least been the originator of the universe. (C2)The first cause is God. PASSAGE 2: Nagel s Counterargument (P1)Positing the existence of a first cause does not explain away the infinite regression of events. (P2)If God is self caused, then there are no limits to what can be self caused. (P3)If everything must have a cause, so must God. (C1) The existence of the world and the vast matrix of events that occur every day do not necessitate the existence of a prime mover, or creator (or God). Part 2: Clarifying an Objection to an Argument State in your own words and as concisely as possible what you take Nagel s objection in Passage 2 to mean. Your task is not only to explain Nagel s words but also to show how they bear on the argument in Passage 1. What is it, exactly, about the argument that Nagel is objecting to, which premise or inference does he reject? I believe Nagel is saying that if every event must have a cause, the infinite chain of events presumably necessitated by this logic in fact follows, assuming one s acceptance of the mathematical concept of infinity. Ergo, there does not have to be a God or even a first cause, as the cosmological argument
