Descriptive And Prescriptive Grammar
Introduction In this essay I will discuss the definition of the concept grammar in linguistic science and thee attitude teachers may have towards such
a conceptualization of what grammar is. I will go into detail by explaining perspective and descriptive grammar. Descriptive Grammar The first thing
that I will be discussing is the definition of descriptive grammar. A descriptive grammar is a set of rules about language based on how it is actually
used. It can relate with a prescriptive grammar, which is a set of rules based on how people think language should be used. Specialists in descriptive
grammar (linguists) examine the principles and patterns that underlie the use of words, phrases, clauses, and sentences. In contrast, prescriptive...show

Examples of prescriptive grammar rules can be found in practically every guide to "good" language usage, grammar rule book, or grammar guide.
Teacher's attitude towards grammar Grammar has always been an important issue in second and foreign language learning and teaching. Some hold
the view that grammar is not essential for second/foreign language learning and therefore have a 'zero position' regarding grammar teaching. On the
other hand, some view that grammar is necessary for second/foreign language learning. There is often confusion between what is prescriptively
correct under the rules of standard English grammar within different varieties, which results in various options for classroom grammar teaching for
second language learners. In the classroom relating to descriptive grammar learners can be encouraged to move away from a prescriptive approach
to grammar by using a guided discovery in which they look for examples of variations in use in authentic texts. These examples can be compared to
prescriptive rules in order to decide if they are useful or

Descriptive Essay On An Island
The first thing that hit me was the sound. The sounds of birds, the sound of the sea crawling onto the sand. I felt million grains of sand underneath my
feet and the cool breeze against my face. Moreover, the tantalizing scent of the washed–up waves, coconut, and pineapple are all mixed into one. As I
opened my eyes, I was amazed by how easily fantasy and reality intertwined at that moment. It was like continuing a dream after waking up. So I
dragged myself up and turn my head to the east. While the sky in the opposite direction was still dark, the dawn on the east side already broke. A
mixture of yellow and orange on the horizon beneath a dark neon blue ocean of night had begun to peek out. As the sun continuously rose, all of the
purple and deep blue faded away, and the sun took its mighty position at the top of the sky, shining so very blindingly beautiful.
After I watched the sunrise, my mood lifted. Notwithstanding, I still feel threatened for I got trapped on an island. I stood there for a moment and
tried to figure out how I got to this island. A series of quick flashback of a shipwreck, and a big storm. Consequently, I have a severe headache, so I
decided to sit down in the sand. While sitting down, I observe the island and find that I was surrounded by water and some other islands. The water
around the island was as clear as crystal, to the point I can see the depths of the sea. Again, I dragged myself up and turn to the back; it seemed like a
tropical paradise. There were multitudes of greenery, lush foliage that looked like they were painted on.
I walk deeper into the island. Nowhere, the sound of the birds started to raise up. It brought freedom and happiness to the mind. Beautiful flowers in
reds, yellows, purples, and pinks lounged happily along the banks of small streams. Following the streams, it allowed me to hear the playful sound of
the water lapping on the rocks, and the sound of leaves rustling when the wind blew gently, bringing with it a feeling of peace and tranquility.
Continuing through the trees, my stomach started growling like a monster who is ready to eat its prey. Accordingly, the smell of fruits suddenly arises
on my left side so I made my way toward the fruity smell,

Descriptive Essay : My Dream
In my dream, I am in a small boat in rough waters. It is a dark night, with a full moon, dark clouds filling the horizon. I am sitting in a small wooden
boat in the ocean or large lake. I cannot see land in any direction. The waters are rough, with large waves rocking the boat. The waves are so rough
they are causing water is spray into my face. I am afraid that the boat will tip over and I will drown. I hold on to the sides with both hands.
Suddenly up ahead I can see large rocks in the water, large waves crashing against the dark gray slick sides. My boat is going to hit them. Suddenly
I am traveling between the rocks standing stark and cold on both sides. My small boat travels between several of them and into a rushing river. I
am full of dread, I will certainly sink and drown. I travel down the rushing river. There are high, dark cliffs on both sides. In the distance I can see the
cliffs ending and the river disappearing out of my sight. As I travel closer and closer I can hear the sounds of a waterfall. I travel down the river,
between the cliffs and over a large waterfall. I fall from a great height, walking up in my bed, still filling as though I will drown. Working With The
Dream A small boat in rough water feels like I am out of control. Control is an allusion. It is dark and I do not know where I am or where I am going. I
am in a small boat alone like life that is sometimes solitary and must be traveled alone. Life can sometimes feel rough

Descriptive Essay About Christmas
r 2017
"My favorite holiday" Christmas is my favorite holiday of the year. I love seeing the shinny Christmas lights that decorates my street and the sound of
fresh fallen snow on the ground. Christmas reminds me of family, the laughter and loved we shared, and the gifts we gave to each other. My house on
Christmas became the center of my joy. I remember waking up on Christmas day with a huge smile on my face, heart full of joy, and my stomach
barking. I can smell all the spices cooking down stairs. As soon as I got out of bed I will rushed down the steps into the kitchen to see what my mom

Me and my older cousins drag the box outside onto the front porch. As I begin to open the box my hands started trembling. I couldn't tell if my
hands were shaking from the excitement or because it was five degrees outside. It took us two hours to put the hoop together. Our lips felt like
icicles we were numb from head to toe, but it was worth every moment. It was the most beautiful basketball hoop I ever seen. It was candy apple
red and the backboard had lights on it just in case I wanted to play in the dark. I thought Santa Claus gave me the coolest gift in the world. Later on
in the evening I use to enjoy sitting in our cozy living room while, the fireplace was burning sipping on hot cocca and scoff down ginger bread
cookies we made the night before. My family was always exchanging jokes. My brother Tito and my sister Titania love joking around, but my
brother was a lot funnier than my sister. He was the jokester in the family. I remember this one particular joke my brother said about my aunt. He
said she had a temptation hair style. I was hollering it was so funny because when you looked at her hair it did remind you of the singer group the
Temptation. You would of thought she was a member of the group. I was laughing so hard tears were running down my face and I urinated a little on
myself . My brother always made holidays so much fun. Christmas was very special to me because the feast my mother

The storm I witnessed was Hurricane Sandy. When I first heard of the hurricane I thought it wouldn't be as bad as some people were prediciting, but as
the storm approached I certainly changed my mind. As we sat in the house it became very real how bad the storm was going to be. It was scary to hear
the wind howling; blowing the trees around, hearing branches falling and the windows rattling. Hurricane Sandy left a lot of desvesation and

Train and bus services were stopped due to substainal track damage and streets being flooded. Down the shore there were mountains of sand in the
middle of streets making them impassable. There were people who had to be rescued from their homes due to rising flood waters. In our own
neighborhood we saw the effects of Hurricane Sandy, just not as bad as other parts of New Jersey and surrounding areas. There were fallen
branches from the trees on our street. Shingles from people's roofs littered the street. People's satalite dishes hanging from their homes were hanging
from their homes by a single wire. Drain pipes, gutters and siding were rippped off some people's homes. A tree by a near by school was ripped up
from the roots and feel over onto someone's car. Street and traffice light were not functioning making driving around town a little hard.
Hurricane Sandy left New Jersey and the Tri–State area damaged and devestated. Inspite of the outcome of the storm, people in our area are a lot
stronger than the effects of the storm. Being able to see peole helping others in a time of need, donating time, efforts, money, clothes, food and water.

I find it extremely tough to talk about myself and my personal traits. In order for me to dIscuss who I am in an accurate manner then I must provide
some basic background information on myself and talk about the Environment I grew up in. This way people can get a better understanding of why
I am the way I am. My Background is so essential In making me myself because If I had been born under any different circumstances or grew up any

Her family communicates to one another using spanish or sometimes english. I have always grown up in a family that speaks only english so I find it
interesting to go over to other people's houses and hear them communicating in another language. On top of all of this meeting different people has
also opened my mind to new ideas. For example, in school when we work in group projects we collaborate and communicate with people who think
differently than us then work together to figure out whose ideas will work the best and how to improve them.
Another factor that plays a part in why I am shaped how I am is my family's economic circumstances. I have always had access to anything I
needed and for that I have extreme gratitude because I know some people have a lot of difficulty in life. Since I was born into a family with such
good economic circumstances I have been lucky to have lots of opportunities. One Opportunity I had as a child was participating in taekwondo. I
did taekwondo until I reached a blackbelt which took years of hardwork and dedication. I had to memorize forms, Spar with other competitors and

Opportunity I am grateful for is the skill of playing the piano. At first I was not all that enthusiastic about playing it but my parents has signed me up

Calm After the Storm
Life washes over those who expect it the least. It seeps into the expanse of space and time and steals the innocence from the young. When I was seven I
was playing with time, innocent and vulnerable. Then life came crashing in and destroyed everything. With water–soaked clothes and tear–streaked
cheeks, I returned home with the knowledge that life has no mercy. Life is not fair. Only the salty sting of reality to my beaten ego was my companion.
Magnificent, heavenly light filters through the wispy clouds, signifying a new day. The thin clouds slowly drift apart, presenting a beautiful sky
beneath. Speaking out to me, the sky seems to know every one of my thoughts, my dreams, my darkest fears. The sky is but a canvas of light,
creating a new picture within seconds. Weaving a story through the delicate clouds, the picture grows beyond the expanse of sky. The colors splay
before me, beautiful and simple. Pink hues morph into vibrant purples as they blend with the beautiful blues. The glittering stretch of sea shines
before my eyes. With every new wave, the light from above whispers promises of riches and sparkling diamonds. The swift breeze that kisses the sea
sends the twinkling light back into the air above.
The ocean strokes land with calm and reassuring hands, lacing water with sand and lifting seashells in its wake. My heart urges me forward, to walk
among the peace, to capture the sweet smell of sea salt. My brain reasons with the rest of my body. Turning sharply from the lulling water, I force my
feet to leave the warm imprint they have grown to love among the sand. One foot after the other, I force myself away from the calm and into the storm.
Just ahead, the shingles of my little house come into view. The roof is worn from years of wind and rain, and the paint is now chipping and old.
Harboring memories my brain cannot contain, that house signifies my love for life. It signifies the love for my family, and the laughter they bring.
That house is my beacon of hope in the stormy weather that is my life. My pace quickens as the air pushes past me, shoving me aside. Once forgotten
waves, now lap at my feet. They call out to me, their pleas for attention becoming urgent. I turn

Descriptive Essay About My New House
I looked back at my house, the green peeling paint on the door, the ripped screen door, the huge window at the top of the house, from which you
could see into my room, and I only had one thought, this is no longer my home. I tore my gaze away from the house and entered the car. The floor
had so much of our boxes and suitcases, I was forced to lift my feet so I could fit. My neighbors weren't home yet, so I wasn't able to say goodbye
to them. I wished they were there. I'd always been really close with my neighbors. They took care of me when my sister was born, and waited for
my grandpa to take me to the hospital. I was especially close to the neighborhood kids; ever since I could talk they came over almost every week. I
wondered if my new neighborhood would be like this. The engine vroomed to life and away from the beautiful, old house we went. In less than ten
minutes, we arrived at my new house. The front was undeniably gorgeous. The grass was not the yellowish brown brought on from the drought,
instead it was a lively green that I had dreams about running in. The fall leaves around the trees enhanced the feeling of Christmas soon to come and
the stairs leading up to the front door were clean. They had no muddy footprints that I was so used to seeing on my concrete. I walked up the steps
slowly. I had a half–witted hope that if I moved slow enough I'd end up back at the Azusa house. I didn't move slow enough. I walked through the
doorway and into a corridor type area

It was a seemingly beautiful day as I drove on a joy ride in my bright blue sports car, with the wind in my hair. This is an everyday activity for me.
My friends would mock me saying, "You spend more money on gas than you make working." I laughed to myself at the thought of jokes amongst my
friends. That happiness was soon halted. As I continued driving, I saw a car coming rapidly around the curve. The car did not show any signs of
slowing down as it headed towards the intersection. The light turned yellow and then quickly red. Another object caught my eye that made me fear
what was going to happen next. A young couple started crossing the street wearing fancy attire. The first thought that came to mind was, 'they are

is considered the town drunk and does not currently have a valid license due to drinking and driving". He asked me some questions and asked me to
fill out an incident report. Still shaken up by the whole incident I gladly accepted. The officer ended our conversation. "Thank you so much for your

The only thought running through my head on my way home was how much I had not appreciated my wife and children. To witness something of
that nature makes one conscientious about what you have and how quickly it could vanish. I vowed after that day to speak out against drinking
and driving and the terrible outcomes that can transpire from something that some do not view as a "big deal". It is apparent that better ways have to
be found for getting drunk drivers off the road. I encourage anyone to be responsible for their lives and others by agreeing to never drink and drive
again, and to also aid your family and friends in doing so. Have a designated driver each night or call a cab. Everyone is capable of saving a

Disney World
Throughout the world there are so many beautiful and wonderful places to go and spend time to explore and to relax. From going to a beach,
skiing in the mountains, to luxury resorts, all and many more would make for a great vacation. Every person may think differently and has different
expectations than others of what the best vacation destination would be. However, there is one destination that so many has thought very highly of.
This vacation spot for many is Disney World. Disney World has been known for many years now to be a wonderful place to go young or old to have
an exciting time. Capturing so many of the scenes and characters from recent and old Disney movies as well as adding in the thrilling rides and
glamorous restaurants in castles, Disney World has truly brought many unforgettable memories to life. Because of the unbelievable moments there is a
reason it is called one of the happiest places on earth.
In 1964, Walt Disney began to secretly buy millions of dollar's worth of central Florida (History). Also known as "D" Day for Orlando, Walt announced
that he planned to build a spectacular theme park. Micky Mouse was one of the characters that got to escort some of the first visitors into the
magic Kingdom. Numerous people including celebrities took part in the celebrations (History). Disney World has the incredible ability to turn
every vacation into a once in a life time experience (Don). The attention in detail that Walt put into the park makes it seem almost magical to many.
An example of the details of Disney World would be their rides. Many parks rides can feature a ton of steel, pipes, and fences (Albert). Disney
makes their rides have a good theme along the way and one can hardly see any sight of backstage stairs up the roller coaster or fences around the ride
(Albert). Everywhere someone would look not only on the rides there will be pleasing to the eye, funny or fits in with the theme of the land (Albert).
Still, one can never forget the work it takes everyday to keep Disney World up and going. The Cast Members treat every guest equally and fairly like
they are honored visitors. They are always helpful and

The air was filled with salt and warm sunlight. The waves were crashing against the Hawaiian sand causing a beautiful and relaxing sound. With
flapping wings and squawking noises, seagulls were stalking tourists in the search of food. The soft, hot sand was soothing to the touch. The palm

Crowds of people began to funnel in to this one location on the beach. I imagined that an animal had washed up on the shore and could not get back
into the water. My curiosity grew, and I left my chair to follow the path of everyone else down the shoreline.
Upon reaching the scene, I became aware of what happened. I stared down at a little girl who was lying face up and was unresponsive to family
members calling her name. It was evident that she had drowned and was on the edge of death. Life guards began to pound on her chest and start
chest compulsions. She continued to stay motionless. Quickly, lifeguards began the operations of CPR. These long and tiring procedures made the
lifeguards physically tired. The rest of the family bickered back and forth on whose fault this was. "Why couldn't you just watch her and do what you
were told?" I heard behind me. The father screamed, "It was not my responsibility to do that, it was yours!" The clear frustration began to build and
caused more confusion.
The lifeguards circling around the little girl seemed frightened. Leaning closer to hear the rumors being spread throughout the crowd, I unintentionally
noticed the disturbing sound of gargling from the little girl. She had regained consciousness, but could not breathe due to the water trapped in her
lungs. Policemen arrived on the beach and began to push back the imaginary boundaries surrounding the circle of lifeguards. The police advised
everyone to leave the beach

Descriptive Essay On Poverty
People are dying every minute because of this terrible disease. No antidotes have been found to eliminate it. Poverty is like an epidemic with no
antidote affecting the entire world. It has already killed billions of people, and will continue killing unless we do something to stop it. Have you ever
thought what living in poverty is like? Seeing a shocking picture in which people were trying to survive gave me a whole different perspective. That
image showed me one of the poorest areas of the planet where people were living under despicable conditions. They were working in sweatshops,
collecting garbage and living in broken down huts in order to survive. A polluted river passes across from their humble homes, causing
incomparable complication to their lives. I could observe the terrible conditions in which this people are working, fishing and collecting garbage.
Not only pollution is shown in this photo, above of the photograph a bridge could be observed. I imagine the noise, and the dust that this little detail
brings to their lives. That photograph made me feel angry at politicians because they could do a better job helping the needy. Since they were almost
dying, I felt sad for the circumstances they live in. A sense of admiration for the way they are able to survive, gave me the strength to fight against
this global scourge. The author of this picture is trying to convey a message, showing us poverty in all its faces and inviting us to be part of his fight

Narrative vs. Descriptive Writing
A narrative essay uses a point of view to tell a story. It is an engaging way for an author to tell his reader about an experience they have had or a
personal story. Descriptive writing is a description of something. It could be a person, place, thing, emotion or experience. The author is allowed more
artistic freedom when writing in descriptive form. While both descriptive and narrative essays are similar in many ways, the descriptive essays use of
language fully immerses the reader into the story and allows the reader to feel the intended emotion. Descriptive writing is painting a vivid image.

It is very important for a narrative essay to follow a sequence of events. In the narrative essay This Old House, the author followed a clear
chronological order. Sedaris told a story that included all of the typical components such as an introduction, and worked its way through all of the
events, introducing you to the characters and setting the stage along the way. Our book explains "As you learned earlier, plot is the order, or
sequence, of events that unfold in your story. It is crucial that you organize these events so that, by the end of the story, they make sense to the
reader and build up to a crucial moment in the narrative. (Connell & Sole, 2013). Sedaris did an excellent job of guiding the reader through the story.
In contrast, descriptive writing does not necessarily follow a timeline or story pattern. Descriptive style must use another form of organization. A
descriptive essay may for example separate paragraphs by the particular details being described. The author may devote an entire paragraph to a sense,
emotion or object. Amy Tan devoted one paragraph to describe her angst and dismay "When I found out that my parents had invited the minister's
family over for Christmas Eve dinner, I cried. What would Robert think of our shabby Chinese Christmas? What would he think of our noisy Chinese
relatives who lacked proper American manners? What terrible disappointment

Descriptive Essay On A Gym
In today's busy world, it can be hard to find the time to even think about one's fitness, let alone actually do anything to maintain it. The average
person has school, work, family, pets, and many more distractions in their life to ensure their fitness is left on the backburner. However, when the
thought of exercise does eventually enter their mind, the thought that often comes forefront is that of the gym. The concept of a gym is simple,
populate a building with the necessary equipment for a variety of physical activities, attracting people who want to get that perfect body or even

example of a gym is Lifetime Fitness in Collierville Tennessee. driving past it, one would hardly even guess it was a gym. Lifetime is a towering
building with large glass windows framing nearly the entire exterior, almost resembling an office building the likes of which one would expect to
see in a place like New York or Los Angeles. Stepping into the parking lot, signs of activity are already evident; children's laughter, the splashing of
water and the whistle of the lifeguard can be heard in the distance from the large outdoor pool that extends from the left side of the building. Stepping

windows on all sides.

Descriptive Essay About The Kitchen
One place I visit frequently that makes me joyous is the kitchen at my job. The greatest and most pleasurable items here include a grill and griddle, a
prep–table, a freezer, along with a walk–in cooler. I would have no choice other than to say that this particular kitchen produces me to savor this
kitchen due to all the exotic gadgets used to cook an amazing meal at anytime, day or night, breakfast or supper. The kitchen is like a long skinny
rectangle with enough room for nearly two people to stand back to back. To squeeze behind someone is like shuffling your way between a group of
people at Walmart on Black Friday fighting for a set of Rachael Ray pots and pans. This kitchen is important because of the happiness it withholds
which includes: the small black grill, the perfectly shiny griddle, the ancient chicken broaster, the two–basket fryers, the enormous three–well sink, the
prep–table, the immense walk–in cooler, and the seven foot tall freezer. When walking around the corner into the kitchen the first figure detected to
the right is the grill and griddle. They are sitting on a table on a table made of the shiniest of all stainless steel. The griddle is roughly three and a
half feet wide and a foot and a half deep. The griddle is uttermost beautiful when filled with the burgers and their toppings, also I cannot forget the
amazingly tender steaks. Adjacent to the griddle is the grill is roughly two feet wide and a foot and a half deep. The griddle is delightfully

Descriptive And Prescriptive Grammar

  • 1. Descriptive And Prescriptive Grammar Introduction In this essay I will discuss the definition of the concept grammar in linguistic science and thee attitude teachers may have towards such a conceptualization of what grammar is. I will go into detail by explaining perspective and descriptive grammar. Descriptive Grammar The first thing that I will be discussing is the definition of descriptive grammar. A descriptive grammar is a set of rules about language based on how it is actually used. It can relate with a prescriptive grammar, which is a set of rules based on how people think language should be used. Specialists in descriptive grammar (linguists) examine the principles and patterns that underlie the use of words, phrases, clauses, and sentences. In contrast, prescriptive...show more content... Examples of prescriptive grammar rules can be found in practically every guide to "good" language usage, grammar rule book, or grammar guide. Teacher's attitude towards grammar Grammar has always been an important issue in second and foreign language learning and teaching. Some hold the view that grammar is not essential for second/foreign language learning and therefore have a 'zero position' regarding grammar teaching. On the other hand, some view that grammar is necessary for second/foreign language learning. There is often confusion between what is prescriptively correct under the rules of standard English grammar within different varieties, which results in various options for classroom grammar teaching for second language learners. In the classroom relating to descriptive grammar learners can be encouraged to move away from a prescriptive approach to grammar by using a guided discovery in which they look for examples of variations in use in authentic texts. These examples can be compared to prescriptive rules in order to decide if they are useful or Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Descriptive Essay On An Island The first thing that hit me was the sound. The sounds of birds, the sound of the sea crawling onto the sand. I felt million grains of sand underneath my feet and the cool breeze against my face. Moreover, the tantalizing scent of the washed–up waves, coconut, and pineapple are all mixed into one. As I opened my eyes, I was amazed by how easily fantasy and reality intertwined at that moment. It was like continuing a dream after waking up. So I dragged myself up and turn my head to the east. While the sky in the opposite direction was still dark, the dawn on the east side already broke. A mixture of yellow and orange on the horizon beneath a dark neon blue ocean of night had begun to peek out. As the sun continuously rose, all of the purple and deep blue faded away, and the sun took its mighty position at the top of the sky, shining so very blindingly beautiful. After I watched the sunrise, my mood lifted. Notwithstanding, I still feel threatened for I got trapped on an island. I stood there for a moment and tried to figure out how I got to this island. A series of quick flashback of a shipwreck, and a big storm. Consequently, I have a severe headache, so I decided to sit down in the sand. While sitting down, I observe the island and find that I was surrounded by water and some other islands. The water around the island was as clear as crystal, to the point I can see the depths of the sea. Again, I dragged myself up and turn to the back; it seemed like a tropical paradise. There were multitudes of greenery, lush foliage that looked like they were painted on. I walk deeper into the island. Nowhere, the sound of the birds started to raise up. It brought freedom and happiness to the mind. Beautiful flowers in reds, yellows, purples, and pinks lounged happily along the banks of small streams. Following the streams, it allowed me to hear the playful sound of the water lapping on the rocks, and the sound of leaves rustling when the wind blew gently, bringing with it a feeling of peace and tranquility. Continuing through the trees, my stomach started growling like a monster who is ready to eat its prey. Accordingly, the smell of fruits suddenly arises on my left side so I made my way toward the fruity smell, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Descriptive Essay : My Dream In my dream, I am in a small boat in rough waters. It is a dark night, with a full moon, dark clouds filling the horizon. I am sitting in a small wooden boat in the ocean or large lake. I cannot see land in any direction. The waters are rough, with large waves rocking the boat. The waves are so rough they are causing water is spray into my face. I am afraid that the boat will tip over and I will drown. I hold on to the sides with both hands. Suddenly up ahead I can see large rocks in the water, large waves crashing against the dark gray slick sides. My boat is going to hit them. Suddenly I am traveling between the rocks standing stark and cold on both sides. My small boat travels between several of them and into a rushing river. I am full of dread, I will certainly sink and drown. I travel down the rushing river. There are high, dark cliffs on both sides. In the distance I can see the cliffs ending and the river disappearing out of my sight. As I travel closer and closer I can hear the sounds of a waterfall. I travel down the river, between the cliffs and over a large waterfall. I fall from a great height, walking up in my bed, still filling as though I will drown. Working With The Dream A small boat in rough water feels like I am out of control. Control is an allusion. It is dark and I do not know where I am or where I am going. I am in a small boat alone like life that is sometimes solitary and must be traveled alone. Life can sometimes feel rough Get more content on HelpWriting.net

I love seeing the shinny Christmas lights that decorates my street and the sound of fresh fallen snow on the ground. Christmas reminds me of family, the laughter and loved we shared, and the gifts we gave to each other. My house on Christmas became the center of my joy. Later on in the evening I use to enjoy sitting in our cozy living room while, the fireplace was burning sipping on hot cocca and scoff down ginger bread cookies we made the night before. My family was always exchanging jokes. My brother Tito and my sister Titania love joking around, but my brother was a lot funnier than my sister. He was the jokester in the family. I remember this one particular joke my brother said about my aunt. He said she had a temptation hair style. I have always grown up in a family that speaks only english so I find it interesting to go over to other people's houses and hear them communicating in another language. For example, in school when we work in group projects we collaborate and communicate with people who think differently than us then work together to figure out whose ideas will work the best and how to improve them. Another factor that plays a part in why I am shaped how I am is my family's economic circumstances. I have always had access to anything I needed and for that I have extreme gratitude because I know some people have a lot of difficulty in life. Since I was born into a family with such good economic circumstances I have been lucky to have lots of opportunities. One Opportunity I had as a child was participating in taekwondo. I did taekwondo until I reached a blackbelt which took years of hardwork and dedication. I had to memorize forms, Spar with other competitors and break boards in order to continue to move up to the next level. Taekwondo also helped keep me in good shape and fit when I was younger. Another Opportunity I am grateful for is the skill of playing the piano. At first I was not all that enthusiastic about playing it but my parents has signed me up and insisted I Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Storm Descriptive Essay Calm After the Storm Life washes over those who expect it the least. It seeps into the expanse of space and time and steals the innocence from the young. When I was seven I was playing with time, innocent and vulnerable. Then life came crashing in and destroyed everything. With water–soaked clothes and tear–streaked cheeks, I returned home with the knowledge that life has no mercy. Life is not fair. Only the salty sting of reality to my beaten ego was my companion. Magnificent, heavenly light filters through the wispy clouds, signifying a new day. The thin clouds slowly drift apart, presenting a beautiful sky beneath. Speaking out to me, the sky seems to know every one of my thoughts, my dreams, my darkest fears. The sky is but a canvas of light, creating a new picture within seconds. Weaving a story through the delicate clouds, the picture grows beyond the expanse of sky. The colors splay before me, beautiful and simple. Pink hues morph into vibrant purples as they blend with the beautiful blues. The glittering stretch of sea shines before my eyes. With every new wave, the light from above whispers promises of riches and sparkling diamonds. The swift breeze that kisses the sea sends the twinkling light back into the air above. The ocean strokes land with calm and reassuring hands, lacing water with sand and lifting seashells in its wake. My heart urges me forward, to walk among the peace, to capture the sweet smell of sea salt. My brain reasons with the rest of my body. Turning sharply from the lulling water, I force my feet to leave the warm imprint they have grown to love among the sand. Once forgotten waves, now lap at my feet. They call out to me, their pleas for attention becoming urgent. I turn Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Descriptive Essay About My New House I looked back at my house, the green peeling paint on the door, the ripped screen door, the huge window at the top of the house, from which you could see into my room, and I only had one thought, this is no longer my home. I tore my gaze away from the house and entered the car. The floor had so much of our boxes and suitcases, I was forced to lift my feet so I could fit. My neighbors weren't home yet, so I wasn't able to say goodbye to them. I wished they were there. I'd always been really close with my neighbors. They took care of me when my sister was born, and waited for my grandpa to take me to the hospital. I was especially close to the neighborhood kids; ever since I could talk they came over almost every week. I wondered if my new neighborhood would be like this. The engine vroomed to life and away from the beautiful, old house we went. In less than ten minutes, we arrived at my new house. The front was undeniably gorgeous. The grass was not the yellowish brown brought on from the drought, instead it was a lively green that I had dreams about running in. The fall leaves around the trees enhanced the feeling of Christmas soon to come and the stairs leading up to the front door were clean. They had no muddy footprints that I was so used to seeing on my concrete. I walked up the steps slowly. I had a half–witted hope that if I moved slow enough I'd end up back at the Azusa house. I didn't move slow enough. I walked through the doorway and into a corridor type area Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Descriptive Essay Descriptive Essay It was a seemingly beautiful day as I drove on a joy ride in my bright blue sports car, with the wind in my hair. This is an everyday activity for me. My friends would mock me saying, "You spend more money on gas than you make working." I laughed to myself at the thought of jokes amongst my friends. That happiness was soon halted. As I continued driving, I saw a car coming rapidly around the curve. The car did not show any signs of slowing down as it headed towards the intersection. The light turned yellow and then quickly red. Another object caught my eye that made me fear what was going to happen next. A young couple started crossing the street wearing fancy attire. The first thought that came to mind was, 'they are ...show more content... One of the police officers came up to me introduced himself, asked me my name and started, "Have you ever seen this driver before? On the road or around town?" I quickly responded, "No, I have not officer." He continued, "I learned from the call back to the station that the driver, David Chrisenger, is considered the town drunk and does not currently have a valid license due to drinking and driving". He asked me some questions and asked me to fill out an incident report. Still shaken up by the whole incident I gladly accepted. The officer ended our conversation. "Thank you so much for your time, Kevin. We really appreciate it." The only thought running through my head on my way home was how much I had not appreciated my wife and children. To witness something of that nature makes one conscientious about what you have and how quickly it could vanish. I vowed after that day to speak out against drinking and driving and the terrible outcomes that can transpire from something that some do not view as a "big deal". It is apparent that better ways have to be found for getting drunk drivers off the road. I encourage anyone to be responsible for their lives and others by agreeing to never drink and drive again, and to also aid your family and friends in doing so. Have a designated driver each night or call a cab. Everyone is capable of saving a Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Disney makes their rides have a good theme along the way and one can hardly see any sight of backstage stairs up the roller coaster or fences around the ride (Albert). Everywhere someone would look not only on the rides there will be pleasing to the eye, funny or fits in with the theme of the land (Albert). • 13. Descriptive Essay About Vacation Max Mudger Mrs. Oncu DE 11 30 October 2017 Narrative Essay The air was filled with salt and warm sunlight. The waves were crashing against the Hawaiian sand causing a beautiful and relaxing sound. With flapping wings and squawking noises, seagulls were stalking tourists in the search of food. The soft, hot sand was soothing to the touch. The palm trees danced in the swaying wind and the aroma of distant barbecues and sunscreen wafted in the air. As a native Floridian, the thought of a Hawaiian vacation was appealing. Hours of waiting began to accumulate when I was informed that my flight to Hawaii had been rescheduled. Crowds of people began to funnel in to this one location on the beach. I imagined that an animal had washed up on the shore and could not get back into the water. My curiosity grew, and I left my chair to follow the path of everyone else down the shoreline. Upon reaching the scene, I became aware of what happened. I stared down at a little girl who was lying face up and was unresponsive to family members calling her name. It was evident that she had drowned and was on the edge of death. Life guards began to pound on her chest and start chest compulsions. She continued to stay motionless. Quickly, lifeguards began the operations of CPR. These long and tiring procedures made the lifeguards physically tired. The rest of the family bickered back and forth on whose fault this was. "Why couldn't you just watch her and do what you were told?" I heard behind me. The father screamed, "It was not my responsibility to do that, it was yours!" The clear frustration began to build and caused more confusion. The lifeguards circling around the little girl seemed frightened. Leaning closer to hear the rumors being spread throughout the crowd, I unintentionally noticed the disturbing sound of gargling from the little girl. She had regained consciousness, but could not breathe due to the water trapped in her lungs. Policemen arrived on the beach and began to push back the imaginary boundaries surrounding the circle of lifeguards. The police advised everyone to leave the beach Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 16. Narrative vs. Descriptive Writing A narrative essay uses a point of view to tell a story. It is an engaging way for an author to tell his reader about an experience they have had or a personal story. Descriptive writing is a description of something. It could be a person, place, thing, emotion or experience. The author is allowed more artistic freedom when writing in descriptive form. While both descriptive and narrative essays are similar in many ways, the descriptive essays use of language fully immerses the reader into the story and allows the reader to feel the intended emotion. It is very important for a narrative essay to follow a sequence of events. In the narrative essay This Old House, the author followed a clear chronological order. Sedaris told a story that included all of the typical components such as an introduction, and worked its way through all of the events, introducing you to the characters and setting the stage along the way. Our book explains "As you learned earlier, plot is the order, or sequence, of events that unfold in your story. It is crucial that you organize these events so that, by the end of the story, they make sense to the reader and build up to a crucial moment in the narrative. (Connell & Sole, 2013). Sedaris did an excellent job of guiding the reader through the story. In contrast, descriptive writing does not necessarily follow a timeline or story pattern. Descriptive style must use another form of organization. A descriptive essay may for example separate paragraphs by the particular details being described. The author may devote an entire paragraph to a sense, emotion or object. Amy Tan devoted one paragraph to describe her angst and dismay "When I found out that my parents had invited the minister's family over for Christmas Eve dinner, I cried. What would Robert think of our shabby Chinese Christmas? What would he think of our noisy Chinese relatives who lacked proper American manners? • 19. Descriptive Essay On A Gym In today's busy world, it can be hard to find the time to even think about one's fitness, let alone actually do anything to maintain it. The average person has school, work, family, pets, and many more distractions in their life to ensure their fitness is left on the backburner. However, when the thought of exercise does eventually enter their mind, the thought that often comes forefront is that of the gym. The concept of a gym is simple, populate a building with the necessary equipment for a variety of physical activities, attracting people who want to get that perfect body or even just get back in shape. However, many people who have never frequented a gym often come up with a plethora of reasons not to go. One such example of a gym is Lifetime Fitness in Collierville Tennessee. driving past it, one would hardly even guess it was a gym. Lifetime is a towering building with large glass windows framing nearly the entire exterior, almost resembling an office building the likes of which one would expect to see in a place like New York or Los Angeles. Stepping into the parking lot, signs of activity are already evident; children's laughter, the splashing of water and the whistle of the lifeguard can be heard in the distance from the large outdoor pool that extends from the left side of the building. Stepping into the building's entryway is almost like stepping into a fish tank, with nothing separating the interior from the outside except glass doors and windows on all sides. The kitchen is like a long skinny rectangle with enough room for nearly two people to stand back to back. To squeeze behind someone is like shuffling your way between a group of people at Walmart on Black Friday fighting for a set of Rachael Ray pots and pans. This kitchen is important because of the happiness it withholds which includes: the small black grill, the perfectly shiny griddle, the ancient chicken broaster, the two–basket fryers, the enormous three–well sink, the prep–table, the immense walk–in cooler, and the seven foot tall freezer. When walking around the corner into the kitchen the first figure detected to the right is the grill and griddle. They are sitting on a table on a table made of the shiniest of all stainless steel.
