Reimagining Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) With Advanced Delivery ...CTRM Center
ETRM systems are, by their nature, complex software products as the software must mirror the full complexity of the commodities industries, markets, and assets that they serve. Spanning from contract administration through invoicing and settlement, the business processes involved in commodity trading varies greatly. This variation is created by the unique combinations and nature of the physical or financial commodity or commodities traded, as well as by the industry segment (power generation/trading, gas production/trading, agricultural production/trading, etc.), the assets employed in the supply chain(s) and geographic differences (North American power vs. European vs. Japan, for example).
[Oil & Gas White Paper] Optimizing Pipeline Energy ConsumptionSchneider Electric
Effective energy management can benefit the hydrocarbon pipeline operator. Energy consumption costs – the leading expense for most operators – are rising continuously; however, the commitments needed on the part of the operator often impede implementation of energy-saving practices.
Key to effective energy management is the ability to quantify energy consumption accurately at any specific time and its cost and that of drag reducing agent (DR) use. Operators committed to energy management can implement a real-time, system-wide power optimization solution that evaluates the resource efficiency of a steady-state model of the pipeline. This solution will also perform costing runs of alternative configurations, formulated for the next energy cost rate or other ‘what if’ scenarios, in order to find the most energy-efficient alternative that maintains operational safety and integrity. Implementing these alternatives, the operator can save one percent to five percent of energy costs and reduce carbon emissions.
This advanced information management technology makes these costing considerations so practical they can become a routine, real-time operations process. Putting available information to work with this solution can make power optimization extremely realistic and highly rewarding for the company while supporting overall operational security, safety and environmental stewardship.
A Smarter Customer Segmentation Approach for UtilitiesBlack & Veatch
Segmentation processes of yesterday no longer serve the needs of consumers. In today’s service-oriented and busy world, reaching the right energy, water or gas customer with relevant messaging is a must to change behavior or trigger action. To help utilities gain program participation, forward-thinking and predictive data analytics and customer engagement platforms provide effective processes to reach ambitious state and federal energy and water saving goals. Experience the future of customer segmentation and learn best practices to efficiently gain program participation in this session. This presentation - Improve your Energy Efficiency, Water Conservation & Low-Income Program Participation Easily with a Smarter Customer Segmentation Approach - was originally presented at CS Week 2016.
Electricity Markets Regulation - Lesson 8 - PricingLeonardo ENERGY
Once the revenue requirements are established they should be converted into tariff systems. This session explains the major economic principles of electricity pricing and the general pricing models using average and marginal costs. Moreover the session explores the major pricing models for the electricity activities including: generation, transmission, distribution and retail activities.
* Pricing principles : economic efficiency - cost recovery
* General pricing models : average cost pricing - marginal cost pricing
* Cost allocation issue
* Pricing for different activities in the electricity industry : generation pricing - transmission pricing - distribution pricing - retail supply pricing
This pivotal moment of transformation in the utility industry is providing large scale and unprecedented opportunity for traditional power providers and those operating at the edge of the grid. In this capability primer, we highlight some of the broader industry technology trends and the resulting tools, approaches and insights that Indigo Advisory Group employs to help utilities navigate uncertainty and create the right strategies.
Training Module on Electricity Market Regulation - SESSION 6 - Efficiency Ass...Leonardo ENERGY
Regulators use efficiency assessment to set the efficiency targets of the regulated service providers. This session explains the role of the efficiency assessment, the methods to measure efficiency and the incorporation of efficiency results in the price control.
Why measure efficiency?
Methods for efficiency assessments : Uni-dimensional ratio analysis / Statistical and econometric methods / Linear programming methods / Virtual network models
Application of efficiency results o TOTEX versus OPEX benchmarking : Building block approach / Cost controllability (short- and long-term) / Efficiency convergence speed / Capping efficiency scores / Using efficiency bands
Calculating the Total Addressable Market (TAM) and the Serviceable Addressable Market (SAM) is key to understanding how market size changes in relation to subsidy level, technology cost, and financing costs. This presentation provides an introduction to these measurements and uses evidence from Connecticut's Green Bank (CEFIA) to show how these calculations can impact product design and green bank planning.
Three Steps for Reducing Total Cost of Ownership in Pumping SystemsSchneider Electric
Electricity usage costs have become an increasing fraction of the total cost of ownership (TCO) for industrial pumping systems. In fact, energy cost represents 40% of the TCO of a typical pump. It is possible to reduce the electrical consumption by at least 30% through appropriate energy management practices while reducing the maintenance cost. This paper explains how to reduce TCO with a limited investment.

Electricity price in euro cents per kilowatt hour
(Germany)
> In Germany, in the past 10
years alone, the costs of
generating solar power have
dropped by over 60%.
> Solar power is already more
cost-efficient than conventional
household electricity.
> A long-term, affordable energy
supply requires further
subsidies over the short-term
in order to provide incentives
for additional investments in
system and storage
technology.
The costs of generating solar power in Germany are already below the
household electricity price.
